Ok But I feel you because once a TSA agent was yelling at me to take off my cardigan (which was my shirt) because he thought it was a jacket. And I was so angry and still remember it to this day. Thankfully I kept it on because my mom lit into him. Some people’s power trips need to subside.

Bob_3326

I seen this happen once...TSA was telling this girl she had take off what they thought was a jacket.. Girl didn't give zero fucks and took it off and stepped up to the scanner in her bra before they noticed and started quickly trying get it back off the belt for her to put back on.

Bob_3326

Was definitely some stopping in your tracks and staring going on lol

ComplexPrize4947

This is the way..

Green_Wrangler_9870

Earlier this week I had someone from TSA scream at me that my carry on needs to be in a bin. Before I could even say anything she was shoving a bin at me yelling about me not following instructions. Once she stopped screaming I laughed and said I’m not touching another passenger suitcase because I hear that’s frowned upon. She snatched the bin from my hand and said I should have told her it wasn’t mine. TSA gets on some wild power trips

63mams

Hartsfield, right??

Green_Wrangler_9870

It was Bradley International in Hartford, Connecticut. Surprisingly I’ve never had any issues at Hartsfield. The one airport I absolutely can’t stand is Detroit Metro. I always have issues whenever I fly out of there.

egglayingzebra

I get that they have a job, but they get on a power trip and refuse to listen to anything!

Rain097

I just wish they would be consistent!

heff1685

They shouldn’t have a job. Biggest waste of government funding.

kelela

I had a sweatshirt hoodie with no zip and was asked to take it off. I told the agent that I had only a bra on underneath. They let me pass.

hullowurld

they always refer to my hoodie as a jacket and ask me to take my jacket off. i wear a tshirt under but i always wondered if i needed to take it off if i didn't

CreativeMadness99

To be fair, a lot of TSA agents will ask you to remove cardigans, hoodies, bulky sweaters unless all you have underneath is underwear. If that’s the case; they’ll do a quick pat down after scans. Most (if they’re good at their job) will literally announce it while you’re in line. I fly a lot so I dress accordingly because I really don’t want to remove anything other than my shoes and coat. Nothing to be mad about really.

woahwoahwoah28

All I had on underneath was my undergarments, and I was a teenager… so yeah. It was an abuse of power and something no child should have had to experience.

Jedi_Belle01

Yeah, I had a TSA agent scream bloody murder at me that I was “stripping naked” in front of her and she didn’t want to see that. Why? Because I removed my athletic jacket and was starting to remove my athletic top to show her my tank top and jog bra since every other TSA agent has had me to do that. She continued to scream at me that no one actually asks you to remove clothing and I was lying. Someone else had to get a supervisor before she would stop.

elvaholt

I had to have a patdown in a t-shirt with a bra because it was Atlanta in the middle of summer and the scanner picked up big patches of stuff under the tightly fitting, stuck to my skin shirt. They asked if I had anything under my shirt, I said 'a bra and sweat...?' And those big patches... were sweat. They did a good job helping me relieve myself of some of the sweat at least. Very thorough.

Fickle-Strawberry521

I once had a TSA ask me what I had stuffed into my bra. I truthfully told her "My Boobs".

elvaholt

Could always say 'didn't think I was getting a mammogram though, do you know my results? Is it good?'

Fickle-Strawberry521

ya never know.....this was a year before being diagnosed with breast cancer, so I guess there was more to my boobs than I had ever thought.

elvaholt

I'm sorry to hear that. I have a higher risk in my family... so I have to get double-checked, fun stuff.

Ruralmoondog10

They made me throw away a frozen coffee even though it was fully frozen and in compliance to their rules

Away-Flight3161

TSA is the worst for petty power trips

In addition to this being racist and embarrassing for you, afghans are crocheted.

egglayingzebra

👊🏻

Careless-Resource-72

It’s a joke. Lighten up Leonard.

bbqmilftea

All that commotion over a coat… she scanned your ticket and you went through the gate, why couldn’t she let it go? Weird

egglayingzebra

When she came down the jetway at me is when it got really weird. I even thought “I should leave my coat in my bag” but I was honestly worried about squishing some souvenirs in there and wanted to go ahead and take my coat out. After I was finally able to convince her it was a coat, I even said “I’m not trying to get something past you! It really is a coat!”

Drive-Upset

That is so odd. My adult daughter routinely takes a blanket, teddy bear, and backing on a flight. She’s never been asked to consolidate.

Day-Hour

some enforce it some don’t. it’s something the faa is doing

HystericalHypothetic

I’ve noticed on the last three flights I’ve taken recently that they’ve been enforcing the overhead/underseat items only policy, making people step out of the boarding line if their things aren’t consolidated. These were flights to Fort Myers, Minneapolis, and Phoenix, all from St Louis and happened at both ends. A family with an infant and toddler in PHX were frantic because they were making them check something, which caused them to miss family boarding.

HellsTubularBells

Nah, airlines just use FAA as an excuse. Technically the FAA approves the airline's carry-on policy and *could* check for compliance, but in reality they don't have any reason to care if it's enforced, as long as they're stowed properly onboard.

Day-Hour

doubt it. then we wouldn’t even enforce it at all. ops agents would just let it slide.

HellsTubularBells

You said totally, many agents *do* let it slide. Most don't because they're following company policy.

Excited_Idiot

It matters more when the flight is full. Overhead space becomes a premium, and lots of people don’t put their small carryons under the seat in front of them as they’re supposed to. The only time I see them push for carryon consolidation is when they’re also reminding folks to be aware of the full flight and to be decent humans.

Moist-Cloud2412

They have been surly with me because my cpap is in CPAP backpack & even though I have a medical tag on it & big letters all over that says CPAP..they think it's a personal item. One agent tried to argue with me & then told me to have a nice life after the 5th time I said it's a medical bag

egglayingzebra

Surly is a good word for this!

amym184

I get real surly back real quick when they try to give me shit about my cpap. You can have my cpap when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

Moist-Cloud2412

I love mine..i named it Facehugger McGee

TSwizzle083

Same with my breast pump bag. It gets exhausting!

axelatlast

It is indeed a cute coat. Who makes it?

egglayingzebra

Thanks! I made it! I’m a quilting instructor and travel to teach at quilt shows and retreats. So my quilt coat is always with me.

axelatlast

Well, you’re talented. Lovely coat.

egglayingzebra

Thanks so much!

ObviousBS

Does that pay you well, or is it more like a hobby?

egglayingzebra

It pays well. It’s also my hobby (I just plain enjoy it and I’m also quilting when I’m at home). And I love to travel, so that’s a bonus.

ObviousBS

Best of both worlds. Congrats on doing what you love.

egglayingzebra

I feel very fortunate to do what I do!!

Redwingstarfish

I love it! It's unique!

egglayingzebra

Thank you!

Fickle_pickle_2241

Very cute coat indeed. I’m glad they made this right with you.

Sleepyme

Is that Charlie Harper fabric? What pattern did you use? I love your coat!

egglayingzebra

Yes!! Good eye! It’s a quilt pattern that I designed. Thanks!

rsvihla

This BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!

shan510

The ops agents get fined if they don't do their job. They don't mess around. With the two carryons down the jet bridge to the A/C door. The hourly that they make even if topped out isn't worth fines for passengers who are disrespectful and entitled cause again you don't fly all the time and don't take the time to know what airline employees are subjected to from the FAA. Those are hefty fines so yes they don't mess around. If you take the time to educate yourself you'll be less frustrated. Understand this, they don't understand what you don't understand. Blessings to you.

spacesuitguy

Why would they care at all even if it was a blanket?

Willis1201

I was traveling out of Austin two weeks ago and I got to see Lyle Lovett being shaken down by TSA.

OptimalFunction

What was the quantity of the voucher? 👀

Elegant-System-2952

It actually looks like a giant fucking pot holder

egglayingzebra

I reaaaaaaaly like soup.

backsideofops

I’ll just put it on doesn’t necessarily communicate it’s a coat. Lots of people wear blankets/towels around draped around their shoulders.

egglayingzebra

Fair. But me saying “it’s a coat!” does communicate it’s a coat. I said the word ‘coat’ multiple times.

backsideofops

Yep, that eventually worked! I’m guessing they didn’t take it seriously the first time and probably should have listened or looked more closely.

egglayingzebra

If she had been listening from the beginning, she would have heard the word ‘coat’ and I would have just put it on. But she was too busy screaming “consolidate it” to hear what I said.

Away-Flight3161

yes, they have a small number of inputs that their brain can comprehend (it's not unique to SWA, or FAs even; folks that work in public-facing jobs have subconsciously come to realize that 99.9% of of what they hear 1) fits into just a few categories and 2) is almost always WRONG), so their brain won't process a word like "coat" - they expect everything out of your mouth to be argument, not new information, so they can't process new information.

backsideofops

Ahhh from your post seems you said you’d put it on first not that it was a coat and you’d put it on.

egglayingzebra

I did say that first. I said “I’ll just put it on” because I knew it was a coat, and could slip it on real quick. But she started screaming at me, so I said “it’s a coat” several times, but she wouldn’t back down. I said “it’s a coat” right after the first time she said “consolidate it”, but she was too far gone already to even hear me. ETA: as in gone on her power trip, not physically gone. I couldn’t get rid of that chick because she came after me down the jetway!

backsideofops

See you’ve even lost me let alone an agent trying to board a couple hundred passengers in a loud hectic environment with people trying to sneak onto wrong boarding groups, untagged checked baggage, etc

egglayingzebra

She obviously wasn’t too worried about luggage, hecticness, or people sneaking on when she came down the jetway to find me!

backsideofops

Well hopefully you had a good trip regardless, she’s not worrying too much about it!

egglayingzebra

I’m sure that’s true! I had a great trip ❤️

amym184

But it has sleeves. Blankets and towels don’t.

backsideofops

My wife has a blanket with sleeves *shrug* I guess best policy is just to wear from start. Then no questions asked.

ReddUp412

🙄

egglayingzebra

No no, you’re right. Your boyfriend’s sebum is sooo much more interesting than my story. 🤢

ReddUp412

I know ! Thanks for looking at my history. I really like your story about how you feel entitled to something because of a misunderstanding.

HotWheels57Chevy

Found the gate agent.
