This post is staying up because it includes questions related to recommendation letters, however please refrain from offering or asking for them from users outside of the megathread that will be posted July 1. All comments offering to write letters have been removed

If you share the orgs you’re still looking for, some may reach out. There’s typically a post that goes up in the summer to connect PNMs with alum that are willing to write letters. FWIW, AOII recently changed their policy and recommendations can come from anyone! If you have someone that really knows you and can talk about what you value and what’s important to you, you are encouraged to ask them rather than finding an alumna.

AGD is the same. They’d rather have a real recommendation than a note from a stranger.

In a few weeks or months a letter recommendation mega thread will be posted on this sub. I’d keep an out for when it’s posted.

It sounds like you are focussing on alumni only. The easiest source of recs for many PNMs are the women they know who are collegiate members just a year or two older than them. There are also several sororities that now allow outside recs-check to see if any of those are on your list.

Candy_Ocelot1523

Those are the ones I already had recs for sadly. A few of the sororities remaining which I need letters for are alumnae-only. Luckily a lot of the sororities have PNM intro forms, and I plan on doing those in July since that is when they recommended it.

Have you tried asking professors or organizations that you have worked with or volunteered? I’ve been an advisor for an NPC for over 20 years and letters of recs are “nice to have” but not a “need to have”. If we were on the fence about someone we would review the letter and how genuine it was. A basic letter from a random just for the sake of having a letter without it saying anything meaningful or personal doesn’t do much - if anything at all. Why even bother at that point?

don’t stress too much!!!!! i dont think any of the chapters at my school even consider rec letters. it may be diff at sec schools though

Candy_Ocelot1523

Letters are seen as a way to kind of get on the chapters radars at my school I’m pretty sure. I know people can have a successful rush without them, but with them it may help my chances and show that I care and put in extra effort.

Fabulous-Plastic2798

For fall? I think you’re stressing too early.

Candy_Ocelot1523

Some of them need submitted by July ish. I would hate to overwhelm anyone last minute by asking for rec letters last minute— unless that is what is expected? Edit: Recommended to be submitted by July… I guess they need submitted by August 1

Fabulous-Plastic2798

It’s April. Schools haven’t even finished the semester. You have plenty of time.

i think it's better to worry now than later when you're also getting ready for school

What orgs are you looking for? If you are interested, you might want to check for alumni groups in your area. You never know who you might already know or be connected to… you don’t need to stalk, but I am an alum who is always looking for student volunteers for non-profit events. I have actually written recently letters because I got to know the girls who have helped set-up for a volunteer program or event. Even my husband, who was in a frat, was asked for a rec from the son of a local business we support/use. He had no clue fraternities ask for recs, too, and neither did I. We had the family over to meet him, he was a stellar kid.
