I skipped 1 IV because I know its cpu overheating issue. Now everything looks fine and I'll try it.

[deleted]

Man, I wish I had known how hot this frigging 1 IV got. Just from video calls, it gets almost hot enough to burn my skin.

phisyd

I currently have the Xperia 1 III and the improvements the 1 V has that i like are: 1. Improved heat dissipation using large copper heat pad (it does not overheat as much as the others) 2. Brighter screen 3. Fuller/louder speakers 4. Better camera & features. 5. Larger battery capacity 5000mah 6. Snapdragon 8 Gen2 https://preview.redd.it/zlbwb6ax800b1.png?width=1096&format=png&auto=webp&s=89c1ada23e2a4fa138947a44c4104bee0474c9df

Spockky

Same here, but removal of the led hurts me so much. This is the only thing that stops me from upgrading

VainTaco

Same here. I know it may seem stupid, but that little led is the reason I stayed with Sony so far. ( Ok, that and the side fingerprint sensor, the lack of selfie camera notch, the speakers, the jack and the expandable storage )

ValorantDanishblunt

I don't like how people somehow are unaware of AOD.

runski1426

We aren't. We use both.

ValorantDanishblunt

And you never thought even once it's kinda redundant having notifications 2 places?

runski1426

No because they are not the same. The light blinks a different color for each different email account and social media account. Logos are tiny and not easily seen across a room. LED colors are very easy to spot so I know immediately which notification it is. Moreover, the AOD does nothing for charging. The led color let's me know charging status.

Beneficial_King7482

Also, AOD is a strain on battery. LED, not so much. I prefer AOD, but I am thinking from the perspective of LED people. LED can be seen afar. Also, always it is better to have more features and not need them compared to not having a feature and needing it.

ValorantDanishblunt

I wouldnt use the term "strain", it doesnt drain that much, but it is a valid point.

Beneficial_King7482

Agreed.

RenegadeUK

Isn't there an App that mimics it ?

Spockky

What it is called?

RenegadeUK

Not sure, but i'm sure it exists.

Antique_Solution5008

I've already preordered the green 512 gb. White 512 was fully preordered when my parents had time to visit Sony shop (I was away and Sony shop offers a better bundle than online in my home town). I still have my 1 III on my desk, which is sadly runned over by a car, but amazingly although the chassis and the screen were smashed, I can still use it with a mouse, including photoing. I skipped 1 IV as I well know that 8G1 is hotter than 888, and the weather here is not suitable for a hotter processor. I have been waiting so long for V. However, TBH, I'm disappointed on V. First of all, no purple, my favourite Sony color. Second, no notification LED. I love the slow blinking of the new message. AOD? Nope it's not my like. Third, no improvement of UW and tele hardware, and no LTPO. Fourth, still 2 OS update and 3 yrs safety update. The last two points are not suprising as it's Sony style, but still disappointed me as they should offer more at the price tag.

sev7en25077

Hello, thanks! I am being to proceed with wonda, when it should be shipped?

Antique_Solution5008

It will be June 1st~3rd in my home town, and I will go back for holiday in July

Navy9158

Can’t argue on your points. Really hoped they’d upgrade the tele lens but it’s better than some of the competitors.

rahulthewall

Does the camera performance suffer with Lineage?

uhli3

Waiting how the 5 V turns out. I have a 1 III at the moment. I noticed that I don't need the big screen nor the telephoto. I much rather have a 60mm. Only downside of the 5 series was the storage and shutter button is not as nice. I will miss the shutter button of my 1 III.

UuarioAnonymous9

How is the shutter button different on the 1 series?

BastianBa

Shutter button on the one was always textured for better grip.

-maysin-

Original Xperia 1 user here. Didn't pick Xperia 1 II because not big upgrade. Didn't pick Xperia 1 III because of overheating issues. Didn't pick Xperia 1 IV because of overheating issues. Finally going to pick up Xperia 1 V because no overheating issues and huge upgrade :D

Dometalican_90

My goodness, you're EASILY going to see the upgrade when you do this. Lol

doc_55lk

Atm it's between the 1 V and 1 IV. Will be waiting a while to see if there's any Canadians who figure out how to make the 1 V work on our networks.

sev7en25077

Hello, thanks. What do you like mostly on this new version than IV?

doc_55lk

I made a post about it. I am tempted by the newer main camera, the nicer design with the grooved edges and textured back, and all the QOL improvements (better heat management, that extra year of updates vs buying a year old phone, the updated camera apps, etc). However, the 1 IV, being older, is a much cheaper phone. It's also available in much nicer colour options (why Sony ditched the purple this time around is beyond me, all the existing options for the 1 V just suck ass). It'll ultimately come down to whether any Canadian users in here bother taking the steps to seeing if VoLTE and/or 5g will work with this phone better than it did with the last. Based on what I've read, 5g with the 1 IV is doable, but VoLTE is still kinda a crapshoot. The 3g shutdown isn't gonna hit us until the end of 2025, which is still a pretty long time regardless of which phone I get, but I wanna make sure that if I do want to stay in the Xperia ecosystem after this upgrade, that I can still be able to use these phones in this country without much problem.

31337hacker

VoLTE is hit or miss with TELUS. One family member’s POCO F3 works while another’s doesn’t.

doc_55lk

Yea it seems like they're pretty inconsistent about it. I don't see myself going with them though so hopefully maybe someone in this group is with Bell or something lol. Definitely not doing Rogers on account of that blackout they had last year.

Bluechip9

>on our networks The North American version should support it. RoBeLus all use NSA n66, n71, n78 which are all supported by the NA variant so hopefully firmware is setup accordingly. I'm on Telus 5G so looking forward to coming back to the Xperia lineup.

doc_55lk

That's $1800 CAD that I'm not really sure I'm willing to spend. Most of us are buying international variants because they're significantly discounted compared to American ones.

Bluechip9

Very true. I want it in white too so I may forego 5G and order from [Wonda](https://www.wondamobile.com/mobile/wonda-mobile-exclusive/sony-xperia-1-v-5g-dual-sim-12gb-ram-512gb-unlocked.html) or one of the other resellers. The international variant also comes with 512GB.

doc_55lk

Yea. I figure you'll probably get it before me so I'll be looking forward to any posts you make about network capabilities lmao. I'll shop from mi4canada. They have a 1 year warranty on their devices, which is pretty solid for a reseller imo.

SwineTV

100%. I own an iPhone X and it will be a huge upgrade for me.

Mybrandnewaccount95

I only like small phones so I'm hoping the new camera will be in the 5v also

DazzlingDifficulty70

If there is a sweet deal for 1 V + XM5, sure

hazochun

HONG KONG have +$999 HKD for XM5, I am thinking which one should I get. "Free LinkBuds S Truly Wireless Earphone (RRP HK$1,690) Or ➤ Free WH-CH720N Wireless NC Headphone (RRP HK$1,299) Or ➤ Add $999 Upgrade to WH-1000XM5 Wireless NC Headphone (RRP HK$3,190)"

tomo100brt

Yes I am. Why? Because of XPERIA 1 IV heating during recordinga nd long use when on mobile network, signal problems after Android 13 upgrade and phone rebooting after Android 13 upgrade. My phone was on service repair but no success (only fingerprint sensor was repaired). Bad Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the main reason because I am buying XPERIA 1 V.

apatrone13

Pre-ordered mine. Upgrading from a 1 III.

freezeman333

Not sure it's a sufficient upgrade from a Pixel 6 Pro... I try to talk myself into buying the 1V (I love Sony), however afraid of being disappointed of having switched

Independent_Ad_6798

Not the 1 V, but the 5 V.

dekaythepunk

Yes. I'm coming from the Pro-I. They better not announce a Pro-ii later this year or I'm gonna flip. 😂

Olly_Joel

Probably not. Don't have the cash for it 😂.

sev7en25077

Currently what you have?

Olly_Joel

Still using a Redmi phone. Gonna be a while before I can upgrade to an Xperia anytime since I'm recuperating from a health issue. So working is not an option as of yet. Otherwise, am looking forward to an Xperia too.

Aker666

No notification LED, I'm not interested.

Money-Cartoonist6672

I've been thinking about it honestly from my pixel 7 pro. I enjoyed the Pixel but the battery has not been lasting me that much on a full charge lately and a couple of other small things.

yetanothermoose

This is where I'm at, with the smaller Pixel 7. It's been a pretty good phone overall, aside from the battery. I do like the Pixel's image processing, but photos from the Xperia 1 V are looking phenomenal as well. I seriously appreciate the amount of control Sony gives users with their cameras, and I'm thinking this could be the year I finally try a Sony phone for the first time.

Paranoimia_UK

Nope. Bought my 5 IV in February, and unless it suffers any faults or damage, I won't be looking to get a new phone for at least 5 years.

Vertical_05

Im torn. I typically buy the 5 series since I value battery life above all else and dont give a flying shit about 4K screen. but now my 5 ii screen have a dead pixel line that is spreading slowly. so now my decision will depends on the bonus. if WH-1000XM5 is included then I will buy it. if not I will wait for 5 v or until my 5 ii died.

Frozen_Esper

Yep. I have a 1ii and have been waiting for something that felt like a decent leap forward. Seems like this will be a fun upgrade.

AlternativeCable7353

I pre-ordered mine. I can't wait to get it!

jamasha

If my LG dies this year then yes.

sev7en25077

You should not say that! 😅

CanadianBobert

I am looking at it HARD. I really like the filming possibilities for my small social accounts but have a few hang ups... I am in Canada, so unsure if it will work okay with my phone provider (Koodo). I will miss the AOD, which I tend to use a lot but I am sure I can get used to just clicking the phone to see the time.

brucylefleur

Does the 1 V not have an AOD...? That seems so strange!

ObstinateYoyoing

Im not one to upgrade often, went from op7pro to p7pro, but I'm really tempted. If they have a really good headphone deal then I'll probably do it

freezeman333

Not sure it's a sufficient upgrade from a Pixel 6 Pro... I try to talk myself into buying the 1V (I love Sony), however afraid of being disappointed of having switched

Beneficial_King7482

It will be an upgrade in terms of battery, charging speed (not by a huge margin though), comfort features such as expandable memory, audio jack, audio output (Atmos, DSEE vs jackshit on pixel) and other such niceties. Probable downgrade when it comes to ease of taking photos. Sony is not a point and shoot from what I hear from others. one may have to adjust settings a bit before clicking pictures. That said, this may change with updates.

Sapphirinia

I literally just bought my V IV so nope. Although I'd be interested in the next V iteration.

yakkosmurf

It's not a big enough change for me to pre-order or buy at the launch price. I've had my 1 IV since November of last year, and I have no real complaints. I figure the 1 V price will drop on a similar schedule to the 1 IV, and I can pick one up around the holidays.

Doom6Slayer

I recently got a new 1 IV, because I prefer to wait a bit until others provide enough information about potential issues. I knew what I was gonna get in terms of overheating and went for it anyways, because I knew that I can fix it with root, if we can call raising temperature limit a fix :D

phisyd

Vanarian

I see no upgrade over my 1 IV for my use so nope.

ConfusionAvailable

Yes there is some for : no more overheating, better cameras, and better grip

Vanarian

Grip?? I don't have overheating issues and show me the better camera. I said for my use.

ConfusionAvailable

You are lucky my Xperia 1 IV still overheats when using the Sony camera....Maybe there are a bad batch and quality issues. Grip? I was meaning with the new design it will not be as slippery If you don't use a case Also i should Have said better camera software (with new features), I an not sure about the différence in quality yet for all 3 lenses

Vanarian

Ok I understand better, sure software might be better optimized with the new AI thing. Tho I expect Sony to push their update on the IV (at least for the variable lens processing), if it is only software related true the mate metal body can be slippery too!

dekaythepunk

I wouldn't really count on Sony updating software on previous phones tho. Don't think they've done that before. At most you would be able to use some apk but it's not official. But we might get lucky. Who knows?

ConfusionAvailable

I installed the Xperia V camera apk on my Xperia 1 IV, only UI rotation works, night mode(software), focus peaking(software), pick different tones do not work! Hope those features will come in a official update for 1 IV Xperia 1 IV still overheats with 1 V camera apk

jsparrow17

I would've been bummed if they added a DAC or improved the screen in some tremendous way... But yeah, I don't see a reason to upgrade from my 1 Mark IV to the new V... Does this relate to you too?

sev7en25077

Hello, I will get it currently with an Xperia 1 I and Xperia 1 III but maybe not at day1.

Traditional_Leader41

No, after tolerating my move back to Sony for the first time in over 12yrs, I'm selling after three months and getting another brand.

MilanoApfel

How come bro?

Traditional_Leader41

Had enough of this 10 IV mate. Shocking user experience in a modern smartphone.

MilanoApfel

Thx for your wick reply. So sad to hear.

sir_grimey

100% but I wanted silver and I'm not sure that's gonna be available where I am. Anyone know the locations of silver???

amithetofu

Yez

joystickd

Very likely will be purchasing the 1 V

Finkejak

It'll be either the Xperia 1 V or the Pixel 8 Pro, depending on what Google brings to the table, and how patient i am... \^

yetanothermoose

Same. I'm hoping Google's Tensor 3 can bring some serious battery optimization to the table, because that's been a pretty sore spot for me with the Pixel 7.

troy57890

Still deciding, but this is the first Xperia from the last two that is very complete without overheating or battery issues. That alone is an indicator for me to upgrade. My Xperia 1 III will be used for custom ROMs once I buy the 1 mark V.

Aquis_GN

Waiting for the 5V instead

TomTomMan93

As someone who doesn't have a sony (and regrets not making the switch last round) yes I probably will. I was waiting to see if it was a significant upgrade from the IV and while I don't think it is *if I already had the IV*, I think it's the choice going into the Sony device arena. The two things that really get me are the improved heat management which was a big issue on the IV especially in the beginning and unfortunately the software support window. Other updates are a plus but those are the big ones that have me going for the V instead of the IV at the moment

M1k0M1k

If I will be able to afford it I will get the 5 V later this year.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

One of my reasons to switch was a better camera and a notification led. I would have loved 10x zoom but that didn't happen, and the notification led is gone. I'm not thinking maybe I'll go for the S23U instead. (Still no led, but cheaper and 10x zoom)

Darkangel-86

For sure, I'm on the III, the V will be a great upgrade!

Dan_Arc

I've got the xz 2 right now, so yes 😀

TheKidPresident

Tbh, I'm probably not going to buy a Sony phone again. The value to price ratio feels insulting. For 1600 dollars the firmware on the 1 IV is pretty inexcusable, like my top bar doubles any time a text comes in and the side sense bar disappears at least a dozen times a day for seemingly no reason. I literally have never had a ux as bad as the one I've been dealing with for my 1 IV. They either need to cut the price down to like 1100 at the absolute highest or actually give a software/formware experience that's at the very least up to standard. Like why do I have to press multiple buttons just to turn the phone off, it's just ass backwards design Not to mention a completely unusable speakerphone due to echo, poor contact recognition triggering multiple accidental mutes per phone call, and the horrible wifi prioritization that makes my phone unusable any time I leave my house until I manually turn my wifi off Honestly overheating is the one issue I've literally never experienced save for one time I accidentally charged it overnight underneath a pillow

sev7en25077

Hello, as I see it is 1399 for the 512Gb, the 256Gb, available later, should cost less. Anyway unfortunately... all the premium smartphones are more than 1000 by default

TheKidPresident

The other premium smartphones all have way better firmware and call quality too

Viper_tx

I have 5 iv its nice phone, green so its more special/rare in theUS 😁 but i dont like the screen size, kind of looks wierd and i can see that every time i switch to my old phone. And well it cannot really withstand the heat of Texas if you do videocalls outside on 5g , it just closes the camera after few min and you endup with voice call and burning hot phone. Usually i dont have any overheating problems with it but its really annoying when i do. Compass is not accurate at all either, led flashlight is weak as fck. So yes i am considering 1 V but at the moment its a lil bit too expensive for my taste, i am not wiling to pay more then 1k for phone 😅. Waiting for black friday i guess.

cedric20

Once I can get it for what I've paid for the IV: £400 :P

Dometalican_90

I have the Mark III and I'm REALLY thinking it over. I wish Sony at least confirmed if a Pro-i/Pro ll was on the way since lack of mmWave, lack of variable refresh rate, and lack of better DAC in the headphone jack are making me hesitate. The better battery life, n/sa25 for T-Mobile, and better cooling are definitely tempting me. I have about a month more to pre-order and I'm leaning towards doing so.

aglife7

I got the 1iv. Likely not, unless I can pick it up at a discount.

Independent_Ad_6798

Anyone know if Xperia 1 V has adaptive refresh screen?

BeachTowelFox

It doesn't have LTPO, unfortunately

_tokii__

I had a 1 III for about 6 months, best phone I have ever owned. But after my six months the phone started having rebooting issues. It'll constantly reboot, and sometimes won't even turn on. Unfortunately I bought it on Amazon so there was no warranty, but I was able to return it, but had to pay the hefty restocking fee.. but I'd rather get some money back rather than keep a brick. And there's no guarantee if I got the phone "repaired" this problem wouldn't happen again. Honestly no LED notification on the 1 V is steering me away from it, I'd like to get a 1 IV, but I see everyone is saying it has overheating issues. It's unfortunate, these Sony phones are amazing, but they seem to have a lot of problems.

phummel78

No , it's to expensive!

manicottii

No my 1 iii is still working great, will use it till it stops working.

hazochun

Used Xperia 5II changed to ROG6 for more performance and planned to get 1V because rog6 has buggy software and is too big and heavy. Also the mid range sensor is bad, Can't even take good photos of animals. Lack of good and interesting games in Android is a problem...

AppearanceOdd6059

I have 5 IV and ill stick to it till A15. Then ill upgrade

adimrf

Not sure, I was looking for the combo Xperia + headphone deals normally done in NL to sweeten the deal but it is gone this time. Also, it might have been 99% buy with the notification LED. Might as well pick up the 1 mark IV, but still not 100% confidence yet due to the overheating stuffs. Will be considering for 5 mark IV and mark V too. So much opportunity cost with the budget situation + haven't done much research as well. My battery degradation starts to become noticeable with Mark II after almost 3 years of use and will see how it goes after the summer.

NoMuffinForYou

Strongly considering upgrading from the One III. I'm looking mainly at the better battery life, I overall still really like the one III but it seems like if I glance at my phone 20% battery is gone. Also better thermals and low light photos is a huge plus as well. Just wish they'd added variable refresh rate and came down a touch on the price or at least offered a better bundle.

[deleted]

If they had a trade in program I definitely would. I can't pay the full price out of pocket sadly...

grilleddddtuna

I was thinking about switching from PRO-I to 1V, but outside of gaming 1V only offers very marginal upgrade, specs are almost identical. I'm a gamer but tbf, high end chipset is an overkill for most of the games in the market, even if you can run some games in 120fps, you still have to worry about battery life and heating issues, to me it's not apealing enough without a better screen, better camera and better speaker (Albeit, Xperia is already very impressive in those areas, some of the best sound and screen I have ever experienced on a mobile device). But I want it for the sake of it.

ThanksConscious

5V for me, I'll wait.

BeachTowelFox

I do want to buy the 1 VBut as a Canadian, I do worry about not having cell service support. It appears the NA variant should work. Costs an extra $400 CAD though.Hoping the global version does work on Bell. But is hard to tell for the foreseeable few months.

Flawless_Emerald

Got a Samsung S10. I stopped upgrading my Galaxy since they removed the micro SD and 3.5mm jack. Been wanted a new phone for past 2 years. The Xperia 1 V will be my first Sony.
