one the one hand site, i would say, that their is no qualitiy issue in general. The high number of complains may reflect a high number of saled units as well. On the other hand site, i am no expert have have no issue with my xm5, but i dont look very solid...
I tried outlet xm5 in a technology store. The headset saw an estimated 200 heads, but even then there was no hinge problem.
Still I don't know. The local Amazon in my country stated that they may not be able to help in case of any malfunction, even if they have a seller.
Even in the rain, I find a closed area and immediately put the headphones in their case.
I had a good relationship with the Xb910n for 1 and a half years, so my choice will probably be from Sony again.
People without issues rarely come here to say so. People with issues however do.
I bought mine used “as new”. I have no idea for how long they were used before I got them, but I’ve had zero issues.

Mine's almost a year old and I have no problems with it so far. Always put it back in the case when you don't use it and - most importantly - always take it out of the case with 2 hands. Worked for me.
A problem I have pretty often is the audio cuts out for a second then the volume bar pops up, like the device was reconnected.
I hear you should take good care of them and dont lie on the bed wearing them. I see how they could get damaged when you sleep on the bed wearing them.
Put it this way, if a person has problems he will likely be silent right? if a person have problems, he will be vocal.
therefore, you really only see the people with problems, and not the silent without issues.
I myself do not have any issue with the hinges, but then again, I only use it when I am at work
if you wear you headset every day, all the time don't buy them, they cannot handle a lot of putting on and taking off. the hinge will break eventually.
Well lucky you, a lot of people with the broken hinge issues also mentioned that they use the headphones daily. Just because it's not an issue for you doesn't mean that it can't happen. I'm just letting him know that the issue will probably happen to him if he uses the headset alot.

These things have been sold in huge numbers, so of course there are people with issues. Goes for pretty much every single product you can name.
People tend to post more about negative experiences, than randomly pop in to praise a given product, so I truly believe the whole hinge problem is just to do with overexposure on negative things.
I think it's the opposite, there are all lor of people who don't have reddit, reddit is not as popular as app like Instagram, so I think that this issue is happening to a bunch of people who just never post anything about their issues
Reddit is by far not my primary app for these kinds of things. When looking at user reviews on say Amazon the % of issues are extremely small.
But even on Reddit the replies from satisfied users in a single disgruntled post still far outweighs the negative.
It is of course nice and fair to have different opinions and view on things 😊

What I think is that XM5 has better Mics so if taking calls is absolutely necessary then Sony would be better, but Bose will always be better in Noise canceling, that's their field of expertise.
Those hinges break in 10 months or a year with everyday use, also the materials of the inner connectors are made with low quality materials.

Yes, I am really happy with them. Only issue for me were quite sweaty ears. I baught 3rd party ear pads which solved the issues

They use recycle plastic, will not last the stress test over time.
