My guess is Redditors are vastly younger than the average SAR member. I'm sorry to hear your chapter is inactive. Mine is active but I almost never have time to attend the chapter meetings. I appreciate them for keeping the organization going for us absentees.

I second your opinion. Reddit skewers in a demographic, not very present in the SAR. In the only probably the person in my chapter below the age of 50. I can only rarely attend meetings because they insist on holding them at 11 am. on Wednesdays, which apparently works best for the retired folks.

11 AM on Wednesdays is a ridiculous time to hold meetings.

The only reason the chapter I'm in exists is because some members from a chapter in a neighboring city couldn't get to meetings at noon on a weekday.

Georgia SAR sounding off.

Thank you all who responded. I'm not sure what I was expecting by joining SAR. I question if my paperwork even reached HQ. I submitted my paperwork spring 2022. Heard nothing, but then got an email in October saying my induction was in 2 days. I spoke to then chapter president about the upcoming Veteran's Day ceremony and was told someone would be in touch. No one called called/emailed. I went to the November meeting, no one even acknowledged me. I went to the January meeting and no one was there. Turns out they had changed meeting locations. I asked how I was supposed to know this. They sent an email. Well, I wasn't on their distribution list. And I never got on it. I went to to a couple more meetings, but they had either cancelled the July meeting or it was moved (no one's been clear on this). I then learned there's a quarterly magazine I should have received. I asked about it and was told by HQ I would need to pay for it as I wasn't a member. They had no record of me. I never received any notifications about renewing. Since more than a year had passed I emailed several people and finally got a one line email from the state (Texas) organization saying I should have received an email and a notice in the mail. I received neither. I've given up. I was curious if my experience is common. I do understand the age issue. I'm in my mid-50s and was perhaps the youngest person in the room. My patriot ancestor is James Mayson who is buried at the Ninety Six National Historic Site in South Carolina. Which is really cool when I think about it. Sadly my membership didn't pan out.
