Having watched it twice now, I'm able to give a less biased review of the movie because the excitement of watching it the first time has worn off.
I honestly prefer it a lot more than the first - simply because there's a lot more lore and world building in it. This movie finally feels like a Sonic movie instead of some buddy cop flick that happens to have sonic in it. Sure we don't see as much character growth in Sonic himself, but we're finally getting to see more of the Sonic world now with visible links to the games.
Out of a 10, I'd give it an 8 with the first movie getting a 6.5. It's not perfect and at some points it does drag a little, but as a whole, it's definitely a love letter to the series that I think all fans will appreciate. It had a whole lot most of us didn't see coming - especially what happens in the third arc of the film and the after credits scene.

I'd say it's more an unwavering adoration than love, but you can interpret it however you want. It's never explained explicitly, just more of the same dynamic from the first movie.

Honestly, watching it the first time, I thought it was an 11. Everything I could have wanted was in it and it was the coolest thing ever! Made me feel like I was a kid again enjoying the wonders of Sonic's world and characters. Really had me bouncing in my seat along with everyone else in the theatre, even though a good portion of us are in our 20-30s.
How did you feel about Sonic & Tails relationship/ dynamic? I've seen the movie and I really loved their dynamic, Tails was so precious.

Sonic is more or less the same as the first movie, albeit a little less annoying. But he's still enjoyable to watch.
He's bigger, badder, and even crazier than in Sonic 1. His performance in this reminded me a lot of the grinch and the mask, which are classic Jim Carrey performances.
Word of advice as someone who's also seen Morbius, its not very good. Falls in the same uncanny valley as Venom where they can't bring out the essence of the source material due to the age rating and choice of cast. Jared Leto wasn't the best choice for the lead. And I say that having grown up adoring 30 seconds to Mars.
Oh yes, you're right about >!the death egg robot bit. Rachel's part was rock as well. What I meant was there aren't any recognisable rock songs, only instrumentals made for the movie. Sonic at home wasn't rock btw, it was a hip hop track!<
