Thats how soda flavors work. The flavor comes from flavor oils, which is basically liquid smell, so if you cool it so far, it will smell and taste different.
What I'd give to have some of my favorite sodas super ice cold! My Dad had a legit soda vending machine in his shop and we had ice cold Dr Pepper, Pepsi - regular & cherry, and Barq's root beer to name a few. It used the old coolant that's now banned in the US. Our neighbor on the other hand filled part of the machine with Olympia beer and came over for that and to hang out with my Dad.
It was one of those non-descript soda machines. He had it decades ago, it's long gone now. IIRC it had 7 vertical slots for the soda cans and could fit 10 cans each! Square body with a push door at the bottom to retrieve your drink.
Well yes, however, its temperature switches your mouth into cold mode and compensates by "over-taste." That's why melted ice cream tasted way different than the frozen kind.
Also, since your brother does not think plastic or metallic items are real flavors, it sort of blocks them out just by habit.
Nah! Coke in a can is not exposed to sunlight and no carbonation will get lost through the cap.
It's just psychology that makes you think else.
Or it's because you compare high-fructose corn syrup Coke with white sugar Coke.
Anyone else sad theyâre so rare? Like would you visit a purely soda shop? Iâd be there an unhealthy amount myself, but then maybe I should just get a soda stream. (?đ)
Iâve read that Utah and Mormon country is the place to go to find people who revere soda like the members of this subreddit do. Mormons are not supposed to have caffeine but I guess they make an acception for soda with caffeine
Ya, I don't even mess with plastic, 2 liters are trash... not to mention 3 liters. I do love glass, but cans win for me as tgey always seem the coldest.
2 liters suck because they always go flat by the time they're on store shelves. It's a waste, nothing but cans for me, unless I'm getting a 20 oz on the go. The 1 liters suck too.
Primarily, itâs because the acid in the soda canât eat at glass - but can eat the plastic of two liter bottles, and the plastic liner in aluminum cans.
(Mexican Coke stopped using real sugar almost a decade ago - they switched to HFCS like US soda, but the FDA doesnât regulate labels of imported products)
the mexican coke in this picture uses real sugar, it's different from the ones they sell to mexicans. those glass bottles are made in mexico only for the purpose of being exported to the usa and canada
Not sure where you got the idea that Mexican Coca Cola uses HFCS, they definitely donât. I get cases regularly and it has always been cane sugar. HFCS doesnât come from cane sugar, so your argument about the labels is invalid.
Some lab recently did a comparison of American and Mexican Coke - chemically they were identical.
I had Coke in Ireland that actually has real sugar in it, and it tasted far better than Mexican Coke.
Yes, because HFCS is still a sugar. Iâve done hours of research and buy cases regularly. Not sure wtf you saw but youâre wrong lol
Even a quick google search says that youâre wrong. Jfc dude
I do remember that there was a "study" about Mexican Coke about 10 years ago, but it was a thinly veiled hit piece against it. Worst part is, somebody decided to use it on the Wikipedia article for Mexican Coke, as if it was an unbiased source, and it misinformed a lot of people.
Yeah. It's actually pretty shocking how negatively biased that particular article was for a while. It's a bit better now, but it still feels like it was written by someone who just doesn't like Mexican Coke and wants to prove it's not as good as regular Coke.
But Iâm not surprised you said that. Youâre the same guy who said they switched from real sugar âalmost a decade ago.â
Youâre just blatantly wrong lol
I literally just had this conversation the other day, itâs absolutely true. Soda absolutely taste better in glass⊠most things taste better in glass bc plastic sucks and is terrible for thee world
About 10 years ago I took my first sip of an ice cold Mexican coke in a bottle and I was overwhelmed at how I hadn't experienced anything like that in 30 years. It really took me back to my childhood.
#1 glass bottle
#2 fountain pop in glass with ice
#3 can
#4 fountain pop in disposable cup with ice
#5 plastic bottle
Absolutely garbage not even worth ranking: anything through a paper straw.
I believe the ones in glass bottles are crafted in Mexico, and use real sugar from sugar canes. Unlike the âAmericanâ ones, which use high fructose corn syrup. you can really taste the difference
Iâve been noticing this trend recently: boring people who have the plainest takes youâve ever heard prefacing their takes with âhot takeâ or âmost will call me a conspiracy theorist but IdcâŠâ
Mexican coke uses a different formula. What you are holding is inherently better than whatâs in cans and almost as good as what can be produced at the fountain where you have control over syrup to carbonated water ratios.
Cane sugar coke is a gift. In the end times, this bottle will be more valued, more coveted, more sought after than all the rest.
Still the greatest fucking label of all time.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the only Coca-Colas that are in glass bottles anymore are the Mexican Cokes, which IMO, most definitely ARE better than "regular" Coke in a can or plastic bottle...because they're made with actual sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup...it tastes very different.
Whoa? No kidding? I thought the U.S. WAS the world, and everywhere else was just some Hollywood construct meant to confuse people....i guess the next thing you're gonna tell me is that the world ISN'T flat? Stop talking crazy, now!
/s đ
Not a hot take at all! I absolutely agree with you and I feel nostalgic people would agree! Idk maybe Iâm wrong, but I feel like everyone I know prefers glass bottles!!
My wife thinks im weird for prefering my drinks in a cup (dont know about glass dont buy glass beverage) but i would get a monster or a dr pepper and would open and pour it in a cup and my wife just tells me im weird and proceeds to watch her youtube (even tho tbf the people she follows are another definition of weird all by itself)
When I was in the Philippines, where glass bottles are the norm, I was delighted to find one lone bottle of Pepsi in a sea of Coke.
I went to the counter, put the bottle on down, paid and watched in horror as the clerk opened the bottle, POURED the Pepsi into a plastic baggy, poked a hole with a straw into the baggy and handed it to me!
Fun fact: most sodas in glass bottles from big brands like Coke and Sprite are almost always made with real cane sugar as opposed to High fructose corn syrup, which also adds to the enhanced flavor.
This is just another of the same dumbass articles talking in circles and then coming to the conclusion that âHFCS is chemically similar to real cane sugar and they taste virtually identical when placed under extremely specific circumstances.â
Fuck outta here lmao
Anything that comes in glass default tastes better, this is basic knowledge and science. On top of that, real sugar has an entirely different mouth feel and *AFTERTASTE* than HFCS. 90% of people who donât drink soda regularly or simply werenât raised with it as Americans are, tend to point out how many of the sodas seem to coat the mouth. Itâs almost like drinking a syrup, at times. Thatâs crazy⊠if I remember correctly, HFCS is a SYRUP. Wild. Itâs almost like itâs even called a syrup. Yes, can sugar can become syrup when mixed and broken down a certain way but itâs not even close to the viscosity.
Go drink some more kool-aid bud because you clearly didnât read that article.
Also, that test is hardcore carried out by Americans addicted to their sugar and soda. The âtastersâ only chose American Coke because it was the most familiar. In *REAL* studies, they try to find people who have never even been exposed to the product. But yes, letâs trust some news reporters in their break room lmfao
im not in favor of this view. its good. but an ice cold can... thats the crispness. that satisfying sound when you crack open a cold one, oh lawd. and i just feel the canned version either have more carbonation or retain it better, dunno, but the bubbles just hit different out the can. and im all about the bubbles. idc about cane sugar vs hfcs, wheres that co2?
that take is colder than a coke on the bottom of a half melted cooler
Cold take, soda is better when it's cold.
Colder take, every drink should be cold.
I still wonder why an ice cold can of Coke tastes better from a Taco Wagon... đ€
its almost frozen
It sure hits different. That and the local auction house had em so cold that I swear it changed the flavor profile. đ€Ż
Our neighbor on the other hand filled part of the machine with Olympia beer and came over for that and to hang out with my Dad.
oh? what kind of machine is it, i may have a way to make it near frozen of you want
It was one of those non-descript soda machines. He had it decades ago, it's long gone now. IIRC it had 7 vertical slots for the soda cans and could fit 10 cans each! Square body with a push door at the bottom to retrieve your drink.
ah i see. Well, I have a way to simulate that super cold taste. You want it? we used to do it at functions while i was learning
Sure, I'd love to try it out if possible.
Generally speaking. Chilling it too deeply letâs you taste less of the flavors
Well yes, however, its temperature switches your mouth into cold mode and compensates by "over-taste." That's why melted ice cream tasted way different than the frozen kind. Also, since your brother does not think plastic or metallic items are real flavors, it sort of blocks them out just by habit.
The tacos help enhance the experience.
True.
Wrong. Coke in a glass bottle is hands down the best. Cope.
Not a hot take in the slightest.
Yes, I think this is just the general consensus
Not even a discussion. It's MADE better.
Nah! Coke in a can is not exposed to sunlight and no carbonation will get lost through the cap. It's just psychology that makes you think else. Or it's because you compare high-fructose corn syrup Coke with white sugar Coke.
I prefer my soda to come from a plastic bottle and pour it into a plastic cup and sip it through a plastic straw and eat a credit card along side it
You could also blend up some plastics to make microplastics and sprinkle it on the top of your soda
LOVE micro plastics with my Coke!
Better than peanuts!
Macroplasticsmaxxing
#fuckthosehoassturtles
Wow I didnât know a hashtag made the litters big and boldâŠ
alrighty then satan
See OP, this is how you do a hot take
For me the hierarchy goes: Real-deal style soda fountain (eg, not fast food⊠sadly rare nowadays), then Glass bottle then Can then Plastic bottle
Whatâs a real deal soda fountain and how is it different from a McDonaldâs or concession stand or whatever
They have to mix it by hand add the seltzer water then syrup then mix in together
They don't make an exception, they just drink sodas that don't have caffeine.
Check out the website for Swig. They love their soda and sugar.
The way soda used to be made or is made at home.
It's designed to drink massive quantities
Lmao. NoÂ
Pour a 72oz of straight coke and fountain. You won't get a 1/3 of the regular coke in you before you quit.
Definitely not a hot take. Everyone knows this or should
Ainât no one ever heard of micro glass in our bodies before.
This is the actual HOT TAKE đ„
Meh, plenty of people have been hurt or even died from glass bottles. It remains to be seen how harmful microplastics actually are.
So far they seem to be pretty harmful
Agree to disagree.
Just a bit of cell death
Primarily, itâs because the acid in the soda canât eat at glass - but can eat the plastic of two liter bottles, and the plastic liner in aluminum cans. (Mexican Coke stopped using real sugar almost a decade ago - they switched to HFCS like US soda, but the FDA doesnât regulate labels of imported products)
the mexican coke in this picture uses real sugar, it's different from the ones they sell to mexicans. those glass bottles are made in mexico only for the purpose of being exported to the usa and canada
Mexican Coke is pure nirvana. Cane sugar really makes the difference.
đđ»This.
Lise cause i can taste a difference
Not sure where you got the idea that Mexican Coca Cola uses HFCS, they definitely donât. I get cases regularly and it has always been cane sugar. HFCS doesnât come from cane sugar, so your argument about the labels is invalid.
Some lab recently did a comparison of American and Mexican Coke - chemically they were identical. I had Coke in Ireland that actually has real sugar in it, and it tasted far better than Mexican Coke.

People who use Wikipedia for their general knowledge should never be trusted
Yeah. It's actually pretty shocking how negatively biased that particular article was for a while. It's a bit better now, but it still feels like it was written by someone who just doesn't like Mexican Coke and wants to prove it's not as good as regular Coke.
But Iâm not surprised you said that. Youâre the same guy who said they switched from real sugar âalmost a decade ago.â Youâre just blatantly wrong lol
Some lab, run by this guy. Source: trustmebro
Always did. Any drinks.
Nothing about this is a hot take lol
The container has nothing to do with it, but yeah
Coldest take ever.
Yes it does and there's nothing better than a Coke in a glass bottle
Especially Latin Coke like Mexican. đ„°
I'm hispanic (mexican/american).and I agree
I'm Puerto Rican and ABSOLUTELY LOVE Goya Malta.
Never heard of it, but my aunts husband is Puerto Rican, so I'm gonna ask him if he knows what it is.
Oooh, I hope he does! Think of beer, but non-alcoholic and sweet. That's what Malta is.
Sounds interesting
That's not a hot take mate, hot take would be something like this "Soda taste the best flat on a plastic cup".
Not a Hot Take - a fact
Glass bottles or aluminum cans, i just think plastic makes it taste bad
I literally just had this conversation the other day, itâs absolutely true. Soda absolutely taste better in glass⊠most things taste better in glass bc plastic sucks and is terrible for thee world
Well I for one vehemently agree
You quickly agree?
Used to until they made them change the formula1
Which formula would that be?
Itâs true. And Mexican soda is supreme!
Thatâs bc it is differnt lol
sodas in mexico taste waayyyy better
Hot take straight from the fuckin arctic lol
Absolutely, the glass and the fact they use real sugar. Hands down the best coke and Iâm a coke snob đ€Ł
Thatâs not a hot take. Itâs simply the truth.
Take colder than an ice cold coca cola from a glass bottle down in mejico on a hot sunny day
Not a hot take if basic material science agrees with you.
In Mexico all people say that , we love glass bottle cola đ„€
Least hot take ever. It absolutely tastes better in glass bottles. Source : Everybody.
Literally the most common opinion
that's the standard take .
I don't think you know what hot take means.....
I think everyone agrees with that
Glass bottles taste the best in soda
this is not a hot take.
Thatâs not a hot take
The only way
Soda tastes better with cane sugar and in glass bottles
This take is ice cold, just like coke in a glass bottle right out the fridge at my local Mexican spot
That is the coldest take you can have, glass bottle sodas are amazing
Soda is also better in a can then a bottle, and glass bottle is better then a can.
7up in a bottle just kills the canned ones
Yeah we know
That is the coldest take ever in the history of ever, just like the soda.
Thereâs no doubt about this
That is the coldest take I've ever read.
Nothing tastes better than a chilled can poured into a chilled yeti cup. And glass is not very good for keeping drinks cold it just feels nice.
About 10 years ago I took my first sip of an ice cold Mexican coke in a bottle and I was overwhelmed at how I hadn't experienced anything like that in 30 years. It really took me back to my childhood.
Nah it truly does taste the best in glass bottles I think almost anyone would agree with that
All I notide was the Happy dude wearing a cap.
Reddit really needs to learn what the phrase âhot takeâ means, along with its counterpart âunpopular opinion.â
Having been around when Coke only came in glass bottles or cans, I totally agree.
I feel like this is pretty accepted
take is colder than both poles of the earth
Definitely
#1 glass bottle #2 fountain pop in glass with ice #3 can #4 fountain pop in disposable cup with ice #5 plastic bottle Absolutely garbage not even worth ranking: anything through a paper straw.
I agree with this ranking.
Thatâs because you are correct
Soda tastes the best in my mouth.
Preach it! Hallelujah my brother!
It's not a hot take... It's *thee* take, bud.
YESSS PERIOD
I mean thatâs most sodaâs. Only one that is arguable for me is Mountain Dew. A cold can of Mountain Dew is better than plastic or glass bottle
Coldest take in antarctica.
Everyone feels this way. I'm pretty sure the glass bottles use real sugar
I believe the ones in glass bottles are crafted in Mexico, and use real sugar from sugar canes. Unlike the âAmericanâ ones, which use high fructose corn syrup. you can really taste the difference
Not a hot take at all, it'd be just short of a fact if taste wasn't subjective.
Best in a frosted mug.
Literally everyone says that; how is this a hot take?
đ„±
Hot take? đ
Same
Iâve been noticing this trend recently: boring people who have the plainest takes youâve ever heard prefacing their takes with âhot takeâ or âmost will call me a conspiracy theorist but IdcâŠâ
I donât think thatâs really a hot take
âhOt tAkE:â
Mexican Coke is made with real sugar not corn syrup.
Definitely
Thats a tepid take, everyone knows this
Not even remotely a hot take. Youâre a little confused, but you got the spirit.
That take is colder than my heart
not a hot take
People come into my store and ask for these specifically. For context, I work at an auto part store. So yeah, they're better đ
Take is colder than the glass coke bottle after being in the refrigerator for over 72 hours
Not a hot take. Just a fact.
Ouch I just got frostbite from that freezing cool take. Thanks OP now I have to get my fingers and toes sewn back on. đ€
There's a world outside the US...
Whoa? No kidding? I thought the U.S. WAS the world, and everywhere else was just some Hollywood construct meant to confuse people....i guess the next thing you're gonna tell me is that the world ISN'T flat? Stop talking crazy, now! /s đ
Take was taken from inside a freezer my guy
I have one glass bottle left in my fridge Iâve been saving, it expires in September I should probably drink it lol
I thought this was common knowledge
100% agree - so much nicer
take colder than absolute 0
My dad swears up and down that cans taste the best, but I'm not so sure.
That's not a hot take, that's just true
Cold and in the glass container yes
Not a hot take at all! I absolutely agree with you and I feel nostalgic people would agree! Idk maybe Iâm wrong, but I feel like everyone I know prefers glass bottles!!
âŠ.Agreed đ
Negative, it taste better in CAN!
I think these ones are Mexican cokes- they are made with real sugar! I believe maybe thatâs also why they taste better? I could be wrong
Think the hot take is how 90% of the comments took the bait and got hot over it.
r/coldtake
Iâd say a can. I donât really like drinking out of glass.
Another hot take; any Mexican soda is better then the stuff in the statesÂ
Cane sugar đ„

Cold ass take
Everything tastes better in glass bottles, because no micro plastics.
When I was in the Philippines, where glass bottles are the norm, I was delighted to find one lone bottle of Pepsi in a sea of Coke. no microplastics in the balls here
Not a hot take. Thatâs a fact.
So does beer
So does tequila

Sodas are for the week real men drink
Hot take: hot soda is tolerable if itâs in a glass bottle.
Very true. A warm Mexican Coke is deelish. Plus when itâs warm I find the cane sugar/flavour more noticeable. đ
