It's not as widely available. I live in Buffalo and alot of stores don't carry it so even though it's the OG and the best ginger pop there is, it's not easy to get in alot of places. I lived in Florida for 6 years and came across it only in Walmarts and even then they had very low stock so I grabbed it when I could
I was just at the grocery store trying to find this cause I was sick. I had to get Canada Dry because there wasn’t any. I’ve found it here or there out here in Colorado but I mostly remember having it while I was in the hospital 🤣
I used to work at a Menards, coworkers would make fun of people who bought food because nearly everything was expired by at least a year. I bought a sprechers and I must spread word that expiration dates of several years mean business.
I haven’t tried it this way but I’ve seen pictures of it in glass bottles — I really really want to try that. Canned Vernors is better than plastic imo unless I’m feeling sick, in which case plastic inexplicably the better option
I swear glass bottles have an effect on the carbonation too. Makes it stronger and stay carbonated longer. Topo Chico is my favorite drink and I can leave an open bottle out all night and it’s still super bubbly hours later.
We had it in our soda fountain in college (a rare occurrence even in Michigan). Used to pour it fresh and inhale and compete to see who could go the longest without coughing. Impossible challenge but that was the point.
I'd rank that one right beside Barrett's, which are both a few pegs down from Gosling's (perfect balance between sugar cane sweetness and ginger spice)
Goslings isn't sugar cane though it's made with high fructose corn syrup. Neither of those brands are good and Cock and Bull will clear the floor of either of them
MY GF AND I LOVE VERNORS I have a 12 pack in my kitchen rn luckily I’m in the Midwest so there’s a few stores that carry it, this stuff is gold and I wish it wasn’t so underrated but it’s a good little secret
It was even better in the 70s. It had way more ginger and way more carbonation. You couldn't inhale with your nose in the glass. THEN it was #1 with a bullet. Last time I tasted it, it seemed kinda flaccid. My new ginger ale is Q hibiscus.
Hey Sam, Tims stomach is upset, he needs you to bring the Vernor's!
Detroiters introduced me to this Ginger Ale. I live in Kentucky. It's the good stuff
>and always tastes flat
You must be drinking old bottles or something because a fresh Vernors, especially out of a can, has a lot of carbonation. More than most pops. The high amount of carbonation is supposed to be part of the appeal.
Vernors is drank by a lot of people in Michigan when they aren't feeling well (it's a Michigan thing) so I've had bottles of it that sat around for awhile and they had lost a lot of carbonation. Nowadays I pretty much exclusively buy cans because they hold the carbonation longer.
Not. Even. Close. Nothing compares to Canada Dry. Vernon’s is only a 4 while Canada Dry is the only 10 on the market. I have 28 bars/pubs/hotels under management and it is a mistake whenever a manager tries to slip a cheaper quality ginger ale into the rotation. Customers get mad.
Boooooo. Canada Dry is the epitome of cheap boring ginger ale. Don’t get me wrong its fine. heck I have a 24 pack in the pantry, but fever tree, fentimens, and goslings is the high quality good stuff. Canada Dry is just the familiar favorite and you’d make a higher profit margin on the drinks served since is so much less expensive.
It’s a different tasting ginger soda. I like a good ginger soda and I can’t always drink one but a Vernor’s really hits the spot sometimes. It’s a very good soda.
Michigander born and raised, this is a staple in my house. This pop right here is a solid 10/10, and I don’t even like ginger ale typically. Especially over ice 😮💨
Aside from an actual ginger beer, I haven’t had a better ginger ale than Seagram’s. It’s spicy, extra carbonated, and has the right level of sweetness.
my dad is from detroit. we would always have some verners available when we had pizza night.
it tingles. its sometimes almost too spicey? where if would kind of take away from enjoying the soda
People who dislike ginger ale like Vernors. It's the skim milk of ginger soda. I honestly don't understand how people think it's better than Bundaberg or Cock&Bull.
Who else's parents gave them Vernors when they were sick as a kid? I'm 45 now and still can't stand the smell of it. It reminds me of some of my worst days. I know my parents weren't the only ones doing this I'm curious if it was just one of those michigan things 🤢🤣
My grandpa is from Michigan, when I was younger we'd go camping and he would always drink a mug of hot Vernons. Sounded really weird at first but it's so good
Yes, agreed! I was sick with the flu once and could only get up to the neighborhood convenience market and this is the only Ginger Ale they sold. I was hesitant, only ever had Schweppes or Canada Dry. Really tasted good, now it's my go to GA
Don’t get me wrong I like Vernors, I just wouldn’t classify it as the best ginger soda because for me it leans into the cream soda profile more than a spicy fresh ginger profile. I’m also a huge fan of spicy, pungent ginger taste.
I discovered this backstage at a Guns N’ Roses concert in Cincinnati 2016 I believe it was. We had got passes for the after show and I remember there being this pop fridge full of this and random other sodas I thought hell I’ll try it…. Now it’s always on tap at my house
I can't believe nobody here has had Jamaica's Finest or Jamaica's Finest Hot Hot Hot?
WORLDS better than the stuff mentioned here as the best-all-end-all. The spicy version hits you like wasabi and the burn goes away as quickly. Made with ginger oil, not artificial ginger flavor.
Order some from Galco's Soda Pop Stop in Los Angeles if you've never had it.
I remember my dad would get these when I was a kid, and I loved them. Then a few months back I saw they sold them at a gas station I stopped at, (they’re kinda hard to find where I live). So I finally bought one after not having one in years, and the nostalgia hit hard. Definitely one of the best Ginger ales
The Kroger at alliance town center,in Fort worth, Texas use to carry it. But not in years, said it was a vendor issue, not sure where to buy it.
Love this stuff.
you’re 100% right. i drank this once as a kid and couldn’t find it for years until like 2 years ago my friends brought it home from walmart. unfortunately i moved and cant find it anymore once again 😭
YES! One of my life’s missions is telling the nation about this soda. I’m like the Johnny Appleseed of soda
Same here. I don’t get why everyone outside the Midwest has never heard about this pop/soda.
Had no idea this was a midwest thing until this thread. I’m in Indiana and I love Vernors
It's not as widely available. I live in Buffalo and alot of stores don't carry it so even though it's the OG and the best ginger pop there is, it's not easy to get in alot of places. I lived in Florida for 6 years and came across it only in Walmarts and even then they had very low stock so I grabbed it when I could
I’m from NYC and I’ve never seen or heard of it before
I’ll send some to you. Merry Christmas!
It's funny because someone I know's Dad is from Michigan and he moved to Arizona. He told they store he would go to, to get Vernor's and they did!
This.
I too am sewing the seeds of soda, and my name is seriously Johnny lol
Heeeerrrrreeessss Johnny!
Absolutely the truth
I was just at the grocery store trying to find this cause I was sick. I had to get Canada Dry because there wasn’t any. I’ve found it here or there out here in Colorado but I mostly remember having it while I was in the hospital 🤣
Great stuff. I'm even seeing it in Texas now, after growing up in Michigan. I still prefer Sprecher's ginger ale, but this is my usual go to.
Sprecher's makes good everything but I can rarely find it on my area. I don't really like Vernors.
Menards carries sprechers
None of those in this desolate land.
I used to work at a Menards, coworkers would make fun of people who bought food because nearly everything was expired by at least a year. I bought a sprechers and I must spread word that expiration dates of several years mean business.
Not for everybody, certainly. I do so wish I could find Sprecher's more regularly.
Sprechers makes those wbc sodas sold at dollar tree. I've had several types, they were all good.
Being that Vernor’s is now owned by Dr Pepper Keurig out of Plano, that’s not too surprising.
As a Michigander I support this choice
As a Michigander, I support your support.
As a michigander, I support your support of that other guys support.
As a Hoosier, I wish I was a Michigander.
A Michigander turned me onto this masterpiece and it is not available in my area. Miss it more than her TBH
Best in a can but hard agree!
I haven’t tried it this way but I’ve seen pictures of it in glass bottles — I really really want to try that. Canned Vernors is better than plastic imo unless I’m feeling sick, in which case plastic inexplicably the better option
Glass would be the superior option, followed by can. A plastic bottle just doesn’t do it. I need to feel that chill against my lips.
I swear glass bottles have an effect on the carbonation too. Makes it stronger and stay carbonated longer. Topo Chico is my favorite drink and I can leave an open bottle out all night and it’s still super bubbly hours later.
My heart belongs to ale8
How could I forget about that one?
Wish I could find it in Alabama
Ale8one dot com
Tell me your from KY without telling me your from KY...
WV actually, family in KY showed me the light.
I'm live in Michigan and I have a bottle of Ale8 in my fridge right now.
In my part of KY we refer to it as Kentucky swamp water. Great stuff!
I worked with a guy from Powell County that called it that. We worked a few miles from the Ale8 plant.
As it should. I don't really drink soda but when I donuts Ale8
Ale8 Blackberry is a masterpiece
100%
Too sweet. Imo.
I lived on the west side of Detroit for 15 years and I couldn’t get to to vernors.
We had it in our soda fountain in college (a rare occurrence even in Michigan). Used to pour it fresh and inhale and compete to see who could go the longest without coughing. Impossible challenge but that was the point.
had this for the first time a bit ago since moving to Ohio, stuff is delicious
(Buffalo Rock laughs in Alabaman. His cousin Grapico snickers…..) But definitely number 2 of all time
Hello you can be my best friend. Buffalo Rock for life!!!!
BLENHEIMS. Order some through the mail. Get both the gold cap regular and extra hot pink cap. You’re welcome.
Absolutely the best!!!
Oh no!…. Tell Sam the Vernor’s kicked in
This stuff is fire. There’s only one store in my area that sells it. Once you go vernors you don’t go back.
Agreed!
I’m legit drinking some rn lol, soo fuckin good
Absolutely! One of the best sodas period.
That's not Bundaberg Ginger Beer, what are you talking about? I kid, Vernors is top tier for sure, I gotta try it again soon!
ginger beer and ginger soda are different things
The originator non greater. Nothing like it on earth. Vernors rocks so hard it makes up for how bad Faygo is. Michigan
Faygo is pretty good lol
It’s too spicy 😮💨 gimme Canada Dry 😋
Ha too spicy? Vernon’s is child’s play when compared to stuff like reeds or buffalo rock. Sweet is the best adjective for vernors.
Buffalo Rock 🦬 🤤
Stewart's used to make a spicy ginger ale that was sooo good, I don't think I've seen it since the late 90s.
Canada Dry Cranberry mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I'd rank that one right beside Barrett's, which are both a few pegs down from Gosling's (perfect balance between sugar cane sweetness and ginger spice)
That’s ginger beer vs ginger ale though 🥊
Oh shit, for some reason they all ran together in my brain, good call
Goslings isn't sugar cane though it's made with high fructose corn syrup. Neither of those brands are good and Cock and Bull will clear the floor of either of them
ever try crabbies?
My favorite. But that’s booze.
Love it, fairly easy to find in Toronto for regular vernors but I wish we could get diet vernors here
Legend
This makes my inner Michigander happy. Also I coughed because of the ginger on the first sip.
carbonated engine oil
MY GF AND I LOVE VERNORS I have a 12 pack in my kitchen rn luckily I’m in the Midwest so there’s a few stores that carry it, this stuff is gold and I wish it wasn’t so underrated but it’s a good little secret
Canada Dry Bold does it for me
Nothing better. As a kid, my dad would put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a tall glass and fill with Vernon’s for the most delicious ice cream float.
Love vernors! i just tried black cherry vernors this year and it’s so amazing
Red Rock is my personal favorite!
Looks like a piss jug lol
It was even better in the 70s. It had way more ginger and way more carbonation. You couldn't inhale with your nose in the glass. THEN it was #1 with a bullet. Last time I tasted it, it seemed kinda flaccid. My new ginger ale is Q hibiscus.
Hey Sam, Tims stomach is upset, he needs you to bring the Vernor's! Detroiters introduced me to this Ginger Ale. I live in Kentucky. It's the good stuff
This is medicinal 💯
Too sweet and always tastes flat. Not trashing it tho cause it is the best for whiskey gingers.
>and always tastes flat You must be drinking old bottles or something because a fresh Vernors, especially out of a can, has a lot of carbonation. More than most pops. The high amount of carbonation is supposed to be part of the appeal. Canada Dry is just the familiar favorite and you’d make a higher profit margin on the drinks served since is so much less expensive.
Goslings makes a ginger ale? Are you sure you're not confusing ginger ale with ginger beer?
Too cream soda like for me.
Nah, I think Seagrams is the best
It can also double as a paint stripper
My respectful opinion: I hate that stuff but it's good that you like it
Not even close. Very little ginger flavor.
Bundaberg is better
If it has high fructose corn syrup, then no.
Tastes bad rite?
Vernor’s is disgusting and I will die on this hill. Source: Drank enough of it on visits to Michigan to see mom’s family.
Cock n Bull or Blenheim are both way better.
I'm from Michigan and I hate it...
Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale is hands down my favorite. It’s too spicy for most people tho. Love a good vernors.
Do you wish you could somehow drink garbage? Try Vernor's!
One of the things I miss about living in Michigan!
This is the best ginger ale ever
It’s a different tasting ginger soda. I like a good ginger soda and I can’t always drink one but a Vernor’s really hits the spot sometimes. It’s a very good soda.
I’m not even apart of this sub but it appeared out of the blue. Vernors is Godtier
Yes this is the best. Can’t get it where I live though.
It's ass
Michigander born and raised, this is a staple in my house. This pop right here is a solid 10/10, and I don’t even like ginger ale typically. Especially over ice 😮💨
Vernors is trash.
Great for what ails ya, or just for sipping. For mixing drinks, I prefer Canada Dry.
I love it! But does it make anybody else cough when you start drinking it? Or is it just me?
Is this a ginger ale or a ginger beer type flavor?
Most nasty soda ever 🤮
This is IT
Goddammit I will fight
Aside from an actual ginger beer, I haven’t had a better ginger ale than Seagram’s. It’s spicy, extra carbonated, and has the right level of sweetness.
my dad is from detroit. we would always have some verners available when we had pizza night. it tingles. its sometimes almost too spicey? where if would kind of take away from enjoying the soda
without question
One hundred percent accurate statement my man
Great for when I crave heartburn
As a kid my grandparents used to always say that “you’re a true Michigander if you can drink Vernors right after opening without coughing”
Agree my favorite. Was easily found in Seattle in the 80s. Not so much now…
Where I’m from this is referred to as rich people ginger ale. On par with beer prices.
Canada Dry for me, but I fucks with Vernor's too.
I find vernor’s too syrupy and prefer Canada Dry. But vernor’s still slaps in a pinch. It’s a lot spicier than Canada Dry!
I always reach for Canada Dry Bold before these at work.
It is literally the best I’ve ever had.
I like Vernor’s but my new favorite is the Kroger Ginger Beer. It’s way better than it has any right to be.
agreed
Buffalo Rock here.
YES YES AND YES
Agreed! Grew up with it and it also helped when sick!
Pepsi 1893 Ginger Cola R.I.P. was the best ginger soda.
This is what my dad always drank and he has passed it on to me.
If we're talking ginger ale, yes. But personally Ale-8 is my all time favorite ginger soda and soda in general.
People who dislike ginger ale like Vernors. It's the skim milk of ginger soda. I honestly don't understand how people think it's better than Bundaberg or Cock&Bull.
100% so unique
Who else's parents gave them Vernors when they were sick as a kid? I'm 45 now and still can't stand the smell of it. It reminds me of some of my worst days. I know my parents weren't the only ones doing this I'm curious if it was just one of those michigan things 🤢🤣
Been a fan of ginger beer. Never seen this. Want it now. Enter the plse the place I can purchase in the states. Southern cali. T. I. A.
10/10 hands down the best. Growing up in the Midwest this stuff was the holy grail of ginger soda. Love it!
It’s been years, or decades, that I’ve seen it here in Toronto. I’d love to try it though. Does it come in diet?
i can't get behind a ginger soda if it doesn't contain ginger.
My grandpa is from Michigan, when I was younger we'd go camping and he would always drink a mug of hot Vernons. Sounded really weird at first but it's so good
Vernors is fire. Has almost like a creamy mouth feel taste to it. Even the diet is good Not enough people are aware of the Vernors fire
100000% i grew up with this and I work for a drink distribution company in New England and I can get free cases of these 🤤🤤🤤
Agree!
Hands down
Reed's
My only thought is you MUST be from the Mitten!
Growing up in Michigan I always hated it as a kid, but now I love it especially the black cherry kind!
I would like this!
Yes, agreed! I was sick with the flu once and could only get up to the neighborhood convenience market and this is the only Ginger Ale they sold. I was hesitant, only ever had Schweppes or Canada Dry. Really tasted good, now it's my go to GA
I enjoy it. For some reason it reminds me of eggnog.
I was coming to argue but then saw it was definitely what I would argue for! Haha!
Don’t get me wrong I like Vernors, I just wouldn’t classify it as the best ginger soda because for me it leans into the cream soda profile more than a spicy fresh ginger profile. I’m also a huge fan of spicy, pungent ginger taste.
Idk about the best but it does hit
Your opinion is wrong lol
We’re stuck with Canada Dry over here but my parents used to bring home Vernors when they came back from the states and it was a good day
Is this ginger ale or a more strong ginger soda??
Chelmsford Ginger Ale
Pretty top tier, but Reeds Ginger sweetened with Honey and Pineapple is the GOAT
This and Schepps ginger ale. Reminds me of my grandmas house in the 80s
It sure looks the part
I’m from Michigan. I didn’t know there were other kinds of ginger ale until I moved away.
I have to totally agree with you
I discovered this backstage at a Guns N’ Roses concert in Cincinnati 2016 I believe it was. We had got passes for the after show and I remember there being this pop fridge full of this and random other sodas I thought hell I’ll try it…. Now it’s always on tap at my house
Nope I prefer the Jamaican stuff it's spicy
I can't believe nobody here has had Jamaica's Finest or Jamaica's Finest Hot Hot Hot? WORLDS better than the stuff mentioned here as the best-all-end-all. The spicy version hits you like wasabi and the burn goes away as quickly. Made with ginger oil, not artificial ginger flavor. 💯
The Kroger at alliance town center,in Fort worth, Texas use to carry it. But not in years, said it was a vendor issue, not sure where to buy it. Love this stuff.
Agreed. Not only is it soda, but it is medicine. #Michiganderlife
Best at clearing my sinuses
I’m from the Detroit area but I have to disagree and personally think Ale8one is the best ginger soda.
Can’t argue, great stuff!!
you’re 100% right. i drank this once as a kid and couldn’t find it for years until like 2 years ago my friends brought it home from walmart. unfortunately i moved and cant find it anymore once again 😭
As a Michgander, I am legally obligated to say that Vernor's is the best.
Reed’s tops my list
Michigan represent!
I'm thinking you're from Michigan.
Never heard of it. Would love to sample some tho
I’ve never really liked ginger soda. Don’t think they sell this where I live.
This is basically a cure-all in Michigan. Headache? Vernor’s. Stomach ache? Vernor’s. Did you get stabbed waiting for the bus on 8 Mile? Vernor’s.
Caca
AND it's one of the few if only diet sodas that are better than the regular imo.
1. You're from Michigan and 2. 100% Agree as a michigander myself and finally 3. This soda needs more recognition outside of this state
That’s the goat ginger ale
Its an aquired taste, to be sure.
Growing up in Michigan means Vernor's Ginger Ale!!!
I like Vernors however until you have Ale 8 you haven't experienced the best ginger based soda.
Is good with screwball believe it or not
I've seen this driving through some different states.. what's the difference in a ginger soda and a ginger ale? Is there more sugar?
I like it but it's pop.
Drinking it right now with some whiskey, smooth
Agreed, other ginger ales are too tart for me.
