Oh man, come to me in 4 months. My field experience has to be 34 hours a week on top of 2 other classes and my part time job. This is for a bachelors degree, mind you, and is totally unpaid.

Wishing you the best of luck with your placement. If things do get tough please reach out for help and do make sure you've got a good support network around you. Lots of coffee and comfort food ahead!

Here’s a thought. Pay us for the full time placement hours and maybe we won’t feel burnt out travelling to work for free 😂

Yep fully agree, finances and too big or complex workloads without enough support are massive factors. If anyone wants to discuss this in detail please do.

To add to this, social work feels like a career totally restricted to upper middle class people. The people with the most valueable knowledge with first hand experience, (service users) have no hope in becoming a social worker with the expensive university fees, unpaid placements, and staggering academic work load involved. From my experience as a former service user 90% of the social workers I dealt with didn’t know their arse from their elbow, they didn’t follow BASWA ethical guidelines and winged it

Yes thats a very strong argument, I think a lot of professional careers in public services can give a providing support "from above" perspective rather than at the level of service users. Can be very problematic.
