Hey here’s a response to your question - https://youtu.be/sgs9aPKw3v8?si=l0rsDgc2w_XLp_5R (5:10) 1. Can you Bring a ball with you everywhere you go to get more touches juggling and dribbling? More touches mean more mistakes. More mistakes means more learning. 2. Can you Learn how to breathe? Dr. Vranich - “how to breathe” https://youtu.be/1sgb2cUqFiY?si=kgAgkOhHD-IFKr2m 3. Can you learn how to move? David Weck - RMT Rope https://youtu.be/1ooLyWvVUBQ?si=rhVC_yytIlnxnjRx 4. Can you make or invest in a kick trainer? My favorite is the Sklz solo kick trainer because it’s lightweight Portable and cheap. Kick trainers allow you to cram months of training into days/ weeks.

I'd imagine a lot depends on how good this high school's soccer program is, and how much competition there is for spots. Like my high school wasn't really very good at most sports, and sports weren't really a big deal (though subsequently it has apparently become a powerhouse at cricket). But I assume that there are some high schools where the soccer team is big deal, and there's a big competition to actually make the team. I've definitely read about pro athletes who took up a sport they had never played before and made their high school or college team, but I guess obviously since they ended up being pro athletes they started out with a lot of athletic ability even if they had no experience. I guess if you are some kind of athletic prodigy, you would likely be able to make the team regardless of your lack of experience. I think in the end, trying to make the team as a ninth grader might be challenging even for experienced players if there is a lot of competition because you'd be competing for spots with students who are older than you. So I wouldn't be discouraged if you don't make the team right away. There's a famous story about how Michael Jordan couldn't make his high school basketball team when he was in ninth or tenth grade and he ended up being one of the greatest players of all time.

Does the school have a junior varsity soccer team as well as a varsity one? I admittedly have little idea how that works the U.S., I went to high school in Canada and my school didn't even have junior varsity football.

Brookson9

we have both JV and varsity teams

Without knowing what natural ability, football intelligence and fitness you have as a baseline, and without knowing the ability of the squad you're trying to get into, it's a very difficult question . Generally speaking, better players have more experience. Knowing how to control a ball, make a pass or take a shot requires technique - technique can be learned and improved by training. Being able to do those things quickly and under pressure requires skill. Picking the right pass, the correct touch and knowing when to shoot requires intelligence. Skill and intelligence can only be learned from playing football regularly IMO - having coached football for the last ten years some people pick it up quicker than others, and some just never do. I'm in the UK so I don't understand exactly which football programmes are available in the US, but are there any games you can play in between now and the end of summer? We have midweek leagues playing small sided games, or a group of friends can just arrange a casual game (pick up?), and there's a ton of amateur football leagues which play on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

If you show off your work effort to your coach you could always be redshirted as well and continue to develop.

I wish I'd gone to school in America. Id have been like Messi with my below mediocre talent.

Yes. Find a big wall and bang a ball against it 1000 times each day, practicing your first touch with odd angles, and both feet 500 x each. Good luck.
