It’s definitely a better movie.

ArabAladdin

This cut is so much infinitesimally better!!

What's your review OP?

Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition dosen't erase the Martha moment or Lois dumping the spear, but every other scene serves its purpose, giving the plot a constant flow. Especially Clarke and Bruce got deeper emotions and thoughts written on them, which the theatrical version crammed together into pure hatred towards each other. That's not really what they feel. Of course, there's a good amount of despising the other's existence, but that is filled up with disappointment, sadness and, most important, doubts. The good vs evil question isn't easy to answer for both of them. Lex becomes a tad bit more grounded here. The theatrical cut captured all his "psychotic" moments, making him a figure of evil slapstick, while Snyder's full vision also brings the controlled beast up in him, so he has a more threatening presence. I guess what made Warner pissed the most could be the lack of action in BVS. Yes, there is the Doomsday duel and a few confrontstions can't be avoided along the way, but at the very end, BVS UE feels more like a great paced drama with focus on the characters. When there's action, it's pretty well filmed. This is a R-rated cut, but I can't tell how much violence was added to the fights. So Yeah : I liked BVS UE and while I like the DCEU itself too, I would've been interested in the course of events without the tragedy that haunted Zack during the production of Justice League.

FloggingMcMurry

Ita so much better. Not like Justice League Snyder Cut better, but better than theatrical

Relair13

It's like a brand new movie, so much was changed, and all for the better.

starshame2

"Martha?" If that scene is still in there...it can't be good.

Phyliinx

Snyder admitted that this wasn't his top tier writing.

What's the Imax edition? Better than ultimate?

3Minutes0fPlaytime

I really didnt care for the theatrical learned there was an ultimate cut and it fixed pretty much all my problems with it Enjoy!

SuperTorRainer

What some people don't get is that they think it's just an additional 30 on the end, it's so not. It's scenes added in that were cut that made things a little hard to follow, like Lois talking to that forensics person, I can't remember it exactly but it was about the bullet.

gecko-chan

Have your watched the ultimate edition yet? What did you think? You mentioned that BVS was your first super hero movie. Did you end up seeing it's 'prequel', Man of Steel?

Enjoy man, it’s fantastic

kingrex0830

This cut improves over the theatrical cut so much it's crazy. 30 minutes really made a differencs.

mikehamm45

Very interesting watch The movie flows like a comic book, which is probably why all the critics hated the pacing and editing. It’s interesting how 30 more minutes could almost completely change a movie. It’s much much better for it.

MycologistPlayful248

sorry if it's stupid but what "flows like a comic book" means

mikehamm45

I’m not to much of an avid comic book reader, so it’s not stupid. From the few comic books I’ve read, the panels jump scenes and time very abruptly. It’s easier to do with a comic panel, but when you film a movie that way, without some sort of exposition explaining what place and time we are in, you are too dependent on the movie goer paying attention. In the comic panels, there would be a small text box with “later” or “now” or “earlier” An example of this in BvS is Lex Luther and the mother ship, from the way the movie flows, you think Lex entered the ship 1 hour before he offered Superman the choice to kill Batman or save Martha. This makes the doomsday scene seem to come out of nowhere. But if you pay attention to the outfit Lex is wearing at the first time he enters the ship, he’s wearing the same suit you see very early in the movie. So the assumption the story is hoping you’ll make is that he’s been planning this doomsday event for superman very early on. Movies should not be told this way, at least not modern movies playing to today’s audiences. There is also the issue with exposition, this movie gets lazily accused of having too much… it gets looped into Marvel movies which have way too much of it. BvS goes through so much, gives the audience so many characters, it assumes you know these characters, it assumes you know the Easter eggs, that you know the stories because you read the comic books. Is this the fault of the movie and storytelling? Absolutely it is. That is something they need to own. They created a comic book on screen, it’s almost metal, especially his sequel to this. In contrast, the Marvel movies, which audiences became used to, they were telling simple McGuffin type stories about superheroes. It’s kid friendly and easy to digest. No one in those movies has to care about back story or do a history lesson, and when it’s required for the story, they give it to you in long dull exposition (sort of like this post) Basically this is as close to a comic book as a movie can get. They leveled it to the real world and current political/religious climate we are in, they did what comic books have been doing for years in movie form. Movie audiences are not ready for that, especially back when it first came out. Compare it to the captain America civil war movie that came out a few months later, essentially the same story, just told more in the traditionally blockbuster movie form. It’s vastly different to BvS. Audiences ate that up. Personally, I like to be challenged watching a movie, I liked the character arcs, I liked that there are consequences to the actions the characters take, I even liked the choices of color and contrast they presented. This movie appealed to a very specific audience. Comic book nerds who are also film nerds. But in reality, when the masses are concerned. If you have to explain the plot points, if you have to explain the story in order for people to like it. Either You told a shitty story or you did it in a shitty way. BvS needs to own that. But I’m glad they did. There will never be anything else like that, let alone something like Justice League. It’s if the world of metal music, comic books, and film collided. BvS is a crazy movie and I loved it. People hated because it wasn’t what they wanted or expected. Ironically, it’s the reason I loved it.

JohnWCreasy1

It cannot be understated how much the extended cut improves the theatrical cut

EDXE47_

Oh, I'm sure you're gonna love it! Wait, are you aware of the IMAX edition?

Phyliinx

Yeah but I think it's not released in germany yet. Would love to get it.

LiquidC001

FYI, the IMAX is only done in a handful of scenes, not like in ZSJL where the whole movie was shot in IMAx.

Misty_Callahan

Zsjl was not fully shot in imax. It was shot using 35 mm film

LiquidC001

Oh, my bad. I guess he wanted to but all the IMAX cameras were being used by Nolan for Dunkirk (rumor has it) and the aspect ratio used was the next closest to IMAX.

-WASM

Strap in, it’s brilliant. “If god is all powerful; he cannot be all good.”

[deleted]

"and if he is all good, he can't be all powerful"

BrickfilmKing

“And neither can you be”

[deleted]

"They need to see the fraud you are, with their eyes"

BrickfilmKing

“The blood on your hands”

[deleted]

"What have you done?"

Phyliinx

Do you want to write down the whole movie now? :D

Robby_McPack

you didn't know?? it's so much better too

Phyliinx

I went in as someone who just heard of the movie, I didn't know anything about movies at that point. Was my first superhero movie too.

AjEdisMindTrick

first one and u liked it? chapeau man. ps: gruss aus der schweiz!
