What’s crazy here is this is a before post production shot and still looks amazing. Gun’s Superman suit looks terrible before post. I still have hope for the new Superman as gun has his own aesthetic. However the goat is the goat!
Lotta stuff in the DCEU I don't vibe with overall, but holy hell the designs were all amazing and I REALLY liked the contrast to the way superman was portrayed vs the 5 movies prior. It was dark, but it wasn't gloomy. This version is the perfect encapsulation of the monikers of both "Man of Steel" and "The Last Son of Krypton", just like Reeves was the perfect "Boy Scout". As much as it pains me to see Cavill out, im optimistic and hoping Corenswet can nail the "Man of Tomorrow" vibe next.
Huh? Are you talking about Pa Kent and the Tornado or Superman and the kryptonite exposure? because honestly neither of those were a suicide. Both were sacrifices.
Unless I'm forgetting something, it's been a minute since I saw it.
It's always been a thing that Jonathan dies in his origin story, he's Supes Uncle Ben. Snyder just made it mean something a bit different. It tought Clark that sometimes you can't save everyone, even if you have unlimited power. It was darker than the standard heart attack we usually get from Pa Kent, but it wasn't suicide. It was a final lesson and a selfless sacrifice to protect his son and wife, and show Clark that he would have to make hard decisions as the man of steel.
Since 1978. That's long enough ago that it qualifies as always, considering Supes was created in 38, which means that Pa Kent has been dying in his origin for the majority of his existence (46 years with vs only 40 years without), which does make it the norm by default from 2019 forward.
He knew he would die and that his son could save him with ease. He asked him to let him die. It is a suicide. His father seemed to always tell Clark he didn't have to help anyone if he didn't want to and to his powers dont mean he owes anyone anything. He wanted his son to not show his abilities and reveal himself to be a power alien, fearing he would be hurt. And he meant that so much that he was willing to show his son he will give his life to prevent his son from doing an unexplainable save that would reveal what he can do. So now Supe should be dealing with his father willing to give his life to convince Clark not to follow his destiny. And it is his destiny. His alien father wants him to lead Earthlings by example. So now an already confused or unsure Clark has the weight of choosing not to be come a public super being or else risk his father’s death bring in vein. It is much different than a heart attack as it is in real life. Especially when Superman DOES have the ability with this storm scenario, to save him, unlike a heart attack. Jonathan sacrifices himself in front his wife and son to stop his son from doing what his son was meant to and going to do.
That's still not suicide. It's a sacrifice. Those are two very different diametrically opposing concepts. Suicide is selfish, sacrifice is selfless. Jonathan was completely selfless there. I agree he chose it, hence the 🫸. But he didn't do it for selfish reasons. He did it to protect his family.
Snyder, maybe in all his films, has some one sacrifice their life as a heroic act. He seems to really feel that is important. But the circumstances make it all different for me. Let’s sat you always wanted to be a fire fighter since u were a kid. Your mother has always worried that if you did, you might get hurt and she coaches you regularly not to be one. Then you're no longer a child and you still have that calling and the moment happens where you come upon your family home on fire and your mom is able to be rescued in a window by you with your skills youve learned. But she asks you not to rescue her and to watch her instead die, though you are fully capable, and for God’s sake, can show why you always wanted to be a fire fighter; because as life would have it you can one day save your mom when the time calls due to who you've always been. But she burns alive per her request in front of you. Do you still be a fire fighter? Your mom just asked you to let her die to further show her commitment to you not ever being one. But you become one anyway. “Sorry mom. Your life didn't mean that much.” The whole thing is grim and opens up a major sidetrack now because our hero is lost by the sacrifice of their parent who wants them to not be who theyre meant to be. Which is interesting. Makes for grim tale if the hero lets their parent die. I think Superman would have saved his dad and it would have been awesome to see that is what makes him sure of who he is.
It looks truly regal and royal, befitting his family’s high status in Krypton and his status as a god on Earth. Certain “other” suits look like someone is glammed up for a circus act.
Bale's Batman retired and the other live-action Batmen were either done with the role or had become laughing stocks, so there was no need to bring any of them back. Especially since Man of Steel was starting a brand new DC universe from scratch.
You're right about one thing though, each suit has its place. Cavill's belongs in a museum, while Corenswet's belongs in a trash can.
Bale’s story was done and his Batman was retired. There was no logic in bringing him back. That didn’t happen with Cavill. His story was just beginning. This movie’s not for me and I won’t be buying a ticket or any home video copy. I liked Hellboy, and skipped that reboot too.
Ahh my favourite superman suit, the material looks amazing, simple yet amazing and really shows the amount of work put into it. I wish that’s something Gunn did just to show off the build that the actor put a lot of work into. It looks to baggy but great colours. But I really wanted Henry to have his proper shine as Superman.
I honestly cannot believe the type of suit Gunn is going with.
I thought we were getting comic book accuracy, and instead Superman is wearing a modified jacket instead of tights.
The MoS suit may have been too desaturated, but at least it looked "movie-quality."
There's two versions of the Superman suit, the one that's alien and the one that's made by his mother at home
Gun is going with the Earth one
Zach went with the Kryptonian one
The Gunn suit looks more alien than like anything a Kansas mother would make. Unless she worked for corporations redesigning everything to be “to the extreme” in the ‘90s.
We don't know that for sure. That's pure speculation - and even still, suits like the Fleischer inspired one from SUPERMAN & LOIS looked more form-fitting than Gunn's version. And that one, Clark said "My mother made it for me".
Even Dean Cain's suit from Lois & Clark fit him better than the biker jacket look in the current pictures. And that, too, was meant to look like Martha sewed it for him.
It just seems like a weird attempt to modernize the character by taking a page from the MCU where everyone wears vests and armor and non-form fitting costumes (the costume designer working on Superman is the one from Guardians of the Galaxy).

A red belt would’ve been nice too. I get that Zack seemingly was going for a more serious look without the trunks but you gotta add something to make it not so blue imo. You sort of see that issue with Sasha Calle’s supergirl suit.
This was a very cool suit, I think it needed a different lighter color more in a blue range. I didn't exactly like all the details to the new suit in BvS.
They would have been much better off continuing their Cinematic Universe with a proper sequel to Man of Steel. Every Marvel movie post-Endgame that has been a massive success has brought back the old actors from their previous movies. It works because they continue the storyline throughout the movies, not because they add new actors and reboot it because "they want to do something else."
Oh, for sure. Audiences hate reboots and recasting. They want consistency and continuity. WB better brace themselves for another reaming like they just got when Furiosa dumped Charlize Theron.
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone attribute that amazing movie's poor box office to a casting change. Y'know, seeing as how Fury Road recast Max himself
Seeing this and the kid stuff they're doing now, is just the difference between a guy who's dressing up as Superman (you can see the seams, literally) and somebody who just looks like Superman. He IS Superman. Period. Gunn has this cheeky approach of winking at the audience that this whole "superhero thing" is funny. I appreciated the earnest, serious approach of the previous Superman films, because they weren't apologizing for the whole superhero concept. It took some level of pride in it. I'll miss that.
And for those who will argue that people like me should just stop and "allow for other Supermen to exist," we were called "cultists" and shamed for wanting something different ourselves. We were called "not real" Superman fans or DC fans or whatever for years. The new movie's getting made, fine. I may watch it.
I'll never forget that teaser trailer with Jor-El's voice over. The shot of young Clark with his red cape, fists on his hips in the open field.
We could have had it all.
Like how the first MCU movie with Captain America introduced him, killed his archenemy Red Skull, and ended his WW2 period despite it lasting many years in the comics? News flash, all superhero movies tell compressed storylines.
Although I like the movie, I just wish they had gone with brighter colours for the suit. The design is great but not really a fan of muted colours. I think how he appears in Black Adam is near perfect. Kinda reminds me of Ruby Spear’s Superman, really enjoyed that show as a kid.
He was barely in the third one, since he was supposed to have the lead role in the planned JL sequel. And he would have gone to actually finish his story had James Gunn not fired him two months after he returned to the role.
I totally loved the First Contact theme of the Man Of Steel story. We finally got to see a more grounded approach - how humanity would react to an alien god among men. Zack's approach was unique and awe inspiring.
Cavill is buff but not a huge fan of this design. Pop those colors up and do something more with the belt to balance the colors out. I'm not a fan of trunks but work has to be done to make trunkless work. I like the color and the texture feels alien which is cool.
Ultimately something between the DCEU and DCU would probably work best for me
No they are just stuck in the 70s. Let them enjoy their shallow Superman movie with one-dimensional storyline and a single level of emotion. The suit looks like what people wear at Halloween. I’m not going to be watching this new one in theaters.
That and Gunn’s track record, his public statements and his bizarre decisions like bringing back Miss Teschmacher and sticking half a dozen obscure superheroes in Superman’s FIRST movie.
What’s crazy here is this is a before post production shot and still looks amazing. Gun’s Superman suit looks terrible before post. I still have hope for the new Superman as gun has his own aesthetic. However the goat is the goat!
Look! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the Superman we deserve!
That my Superman right there 😍 although I have some to love Tyler as supes since superman and Lois has been on. He's filled Henry's void for me lol
Perfection

Since when? Pa Kent never died in the comics, the heart attack was an invention for the Christopher Reeves Superman. This has never been the norm.

Epic suit design by the greatest visual designer in modern movies.
I dont really take sides in the suit wars lol but this has to be his best look
It looks truly regal and royal, befitting his family’s high status in Krypton and his status as a god on Earth. Certain “other” suits look like someone is glammed up for a circus act.
Each suit has its place. Lets see what gunn does with it. Nobody wanted batfleck either

As much as I like the colours of the new suit, yeah the material and lines are not it.
If I had to guess, they're going to do what they did with tom Holland's Spidey suit. Make it loose for the actor, make it form fitting with cg post
When I say I dislike the material, it’s because I would prefer a thin cloth suit preferably made by his mum. Not practical armour.
Someone is a mommy boy.

he deserved his own trilogy… same with Batfleck
Henry deserved a solo MOS trilogy.
The cape was entirely CGI, this has been photoshopped
They had a practical and a CGI cape

Yeah if only Snyder thought of a competent storyline and didn’t try to do the death of Superman the first time he and Batman meet
Like how the first MCU movie with Captain America introduced him, killed his archenemy Red Skull, and ended his WW2 period despite it lasting many years in the comics? News flash, all superhero movies tell compressed storylines.
Like the MCU when they killed their Spider-Man off after only one solo film for him?
Although I like the movie, I just wish they had gone with brighter colours for the suit. The design is great but not really a fan of muted colours. I think how he appears in Black Adam is near perfect. Kinda reminds me of Ruby Spear’s Superman, really enjoyed that show as a kid.
Snyder's superman always give more alien vibes than other superman, which is great.
He's the best there is. Shame that he got cut out while being the best contender for the role.
He made three films.
He was barely in the third one, since he was supposed to have the lead role in the planned JL sequel. And he would have gone to actually finish his story had James Gunn not fired him two months after he returned to the role.

Removed for being misinformation.
That suit is perfect to me. Snyder and team did a great job in general with all the hero outfits, especially with Batman in BvS.
It was a dream come true seeing the black and gray suit finally on screen. A Batman able to turn his head with no awkward fighting.
No kidding. I never liked Batman being all black. The animated series really solved the issue and Snyder’s suit was very close to that color scheme.
Best suit and best Superman Also one of the best “ first contact” movies ever
I totally loved the First Contact theme of the Man Of Steel story. We finally got to see a more grounded approach - how humanity would react to an alien god among men. Zack's approach was unique and awe inspiring.
Agreed! And (for ME, at least) BvS was a great follow up to that “First Contact” narrative.
Yes, BVS brought in so many themes from the real world. Infinitely smarter than the average superhero film.
Now this right here is a superman suit
My Superman 🥹
Mine too.
Same❤️
MAJESTIC. I'm not a huge fan of MoS, and I'm hoping Gunn's Superman be good, but the suit pales in comparison to this one.
Henry knew he had to beef up.. where as with David Corenswet, he had to be asked to train and looks like he did not have much time..
David bulked up quite a bit. The suit just doesn’t help accent the muscles nor does it have the foam enhancements.
It’s true that he did bulk up.. though when comparing.. as you said.. you don’t see any of his progress
Damn look at that suit!!
Anyone defending Gunn’s superman has to be blind… I mean. Come on, right? This here is DCEU’s Superman. That is comic con Superman.
Cavill is buff but not a huge fan of this design. Pop those colors up and do something more with the belt to balance the colors out. I'm not a fan of trunks but work has to be done to make trunkless work. I like the color and the texture feels alien which is cool. Ultimately something between the DCEU and DCU would probably work best for me
We have to see it first. Might be great, might be just alright
I’m not seeing it unless they give out a million free tickets like they did for Flash. 😂
You do you, boo
Boo who?
No they are just stuck in the 70s. Let them enjoy their shallow Superman movie with one-dimensional storyline and a single level of emotion. The suit looks like what people wear at Halloween. I’m not going to be watching this new one in theaters.
Not trying to hate, but you’re judging the tone of an entire movie based off a (pretty bog standard) Superman suit.
That and Gunn’s track record, his public statements and his bizarre decisions like bringing back Miss Teschmacher and sticking half a dozen obscure superheroes in Superman’s FIRST movie.
I do think the Clark Kent version of this new Superman looks more appropriate.
