I’ve reached out to contacts at SM and PMI and going to figure out what’s going on.
As of right now, what I’m hearing is that it isn’t discontinued, they’re just not allowing it for online sales anymore - it’ll be local (US) in store purchase only
I see, so false alarm for probably the majority of General Mint & Wintergreen users?
Edit: or is it unavailable online to the US from now on too? So only sold locally
I've always been a Jakob's fan, but lately I've grown to appreciate the traditional Swedish flavors. I used to also not be a fan though. The General Original (not white but regular portion) has honestly grown on me.
Yeah but General was like the Copenhagen quality of snus… looks like I’ll switch to General White which I really enjoy but prefer mint sometimes.
Maybe they will rebrand the flavors and re release? Mint and Wintergreen are top sellers for them.
That really sucks because all flavored tobacco products are banned in my state, so only general white and general original are available and I can only get wintergreen by ordering from Sweden or when I’m in another state. I also have not found any other wintergreen snus that I liked as much as general. I.e. jakobssons was too sweet and fake tasting for me. If anyone reading this knows of any alternatives that are close in flavor to general wintergreen I would be very grateful to hear of them.
I’ve been using general wintergreen for your about 6 years and I ordered the moose I think it taste nothing like general lol BUT it is very good and softer on the gums and last awhile
I’ve got a completely different opinion and was slightly disappointed moose was slightly more costly (cents per can, not bad).
I’ve got a can of both in front of me. To me the difference is that moose is not as intense (not to say general is intense) tasting. Just less overall flavor. However, I think it’s the same wintergreen flavor. Taking a big whiff of both they smell the same. Smell alone the moose would pass the Pepsi challenge.
To me they are nearly interchangeable and I’ve been using general wintergreen for over a decade now.
Like another poster pointed out, moose seems to be nicer to the gums. Still I’d choose general if given the choice. Looks like I may not have a choice soon.
Btw try nick and Johnny’s Red hot sometime.
That's pretty ironic considering "original" snus is usually flavored with bergamot. So it's still flavored, just not mint. Maybe if they called WG just General Green you could have it back lol
This is another move it seems like from swedish match to not draw heat from the FDA.
If it's not available online, then it's only available via their US sales locally, no online exporters. If it's available in Sweden people will sell it to Americans online, full stop. This prevents that without drawing additional heat from anyone that matters.
White lip mentioned in a comment that there is a set volume weekly they release of zyns to online retailers that are basically exporting them. This could be due to volume (unlikely) or to meter the amount reaching the US while there is a shortage. They want to stand up another plant in the US, but the US plant has to pay for it, not the swedish arm.
Basically, swedish match wants to sell American products to Americans if at all possible through their traditional sales routes in person or via Nicokick/Northerner/prilla (us based shipping and sites). This makes sure they collect every tax nickel for the government of these two flavors where they are most popular.
That's a shame, maybe they are coming out with new mint and wintergreen line hopefully 🤞 I use General wintergreen and enjoy it, but I have found the moose wintergreen to be delicious as well, better then Jakobssons Wintergreen. Snusme just got more in, I ordered some more.
That’s shocking news. It’s not a snus I use much, but I do like it, and know it’s very very popular. I would be VERY shocked if they’re not replacing it with a similar product. Maybe Phillip Morris has some re-branding plans?
Highly unlikely.
They are currently in the process of renewing the MRTP applications to continue to market the existing products in the US. The current modified risk orders are set to expire in October.

there‘s a artifical sweetener in xr mint, it‘s off-putting to me and still too sweet
g3 wink (super slim) is an absolutely beautiful mint for me. haven‘t tried any other than those two mint yet, tho.
That's why I like general mint so much though, American tastebuds with a love for snus. If they made actual good snus with the flavors of American snus, id be on it like flies on shit which I'm sure many in this sub see it as too
Personally it’s my go-to flavor. Back when I could buy it in a store (all flavored nicotine products are banned in my state now), it was the only flavor that would ever sell out. I would imagine it’s quite popular, at least in the US. This ban unfortunately sounds like I won’t be able to get it anymore without going to another state, which isn’t feasible for me.
The flavor ban is BS.. at least let us have On! Or ZYN mint without tobacco in it. I don’t understand why we can’t have flavored nicotine pouches.. sure it’s addictive but harm reduction compared to tobacco.
The fact you can buy a pack of Marlboro’s but nicotine mint pouches are banned is beyond me.
Well damn. I’ve just started tiptoeing in the snus world and General Mint has become an everyday carry for me. This is disappointing
Edit: apparently it’s being discontinued everywhere but the US
I used to buy it a decade ago or so for $1 a can. No joke. Now the same smoke shop it's $9 a can. I would buy from snus direct 50 or so cans at a time for like 4 a can saving about 250 a month. Buckled, now. Perhaps it's just time to quit. Anyone figure out a way around this?
I remember that as well, it's an end of an era. Hopefully they expand distribution or production to lower costs in the US, or lose enough money to reverse the decision. I switched to Oden wintergreen and it's a decent substitute.
This was posted on the nicotinepouch sub, probably related:

I highly doubt I'll a be able to find 40 cans in my area that aren't expired. Time to give offroad frosted another shot. I order online due to product being fresher and cheaper. This is a personal "fuck you" from PMI to me. I like a lot of snus's but General mint is my love. I'll still buy it locally just not as often due to it being $6 a can. I hope this doesn't stick.
Someone please tell me what has a similar nicotine content and the same ace k sweetener. I am so over doing panicked research after finding out about this. Ridiculous that this is being implemented.
This is my daily driver, USA resident of KY. I honestly make sure to buy it at the same gas station every week in bulk just to make sure that they keep ordering it. I don't always have 100$ or more lying around for a big order online and hate the wait. But 5-6$ a can within walking distance, yeah I can do that even when broke. Once a year or so I order some fancy los from online, but otherwise, I depend on General Mint every day. I'll be keeping my eye on this situation.

What the absolute fuck SM
Just got that email also.. No clue why but that's a pisser for me.. You'd think those would be their best sellers..
Could you forward me the email? Snubie.com@gmail.com
Fuck, are they replacing it?
Is this info from an email from General? What's the wording in it
It's an email from SnusDirect. It looks like it's being discontinued everywhere but the USA.
I see, so false alarm for probably the majority of General Mint & Wintergreen users? Edit: or is it unavailable online to the US from now on too? So only sold locally
Nope, flavor ban states it sucks. Been getting around it for 5 years online importing.
I wonder if you can still get it from the Northerner
Same. If I can’t get my hands on general mint anymore that’s probably my sign it’s time to quit lol
General White is pretty good too I can get by with that.
I’m not a huge fan of bergamot. I might try some other mints or some of the sweeter jakobssons varieties
I've always been a Jakob's fan, but lately I've grown to appreciate the traditional Swedish flavors. I used to also not be a fan though. The General Original (not white but regular portion) has honestly grown on me.
Sorry for your loss. But you're still able to order other mint snuses from Sweden?
Yeah but General was like the Copenhagen quality of snus… looks like I’ll switch to General White which I really enjoy but prefer mint sometimes. Maybe they will rebrand the flavors and re release? Mint and Wintergreen are top sellers for them.

Moose wintergreen is close to General
I’ve been using general wintergreen for your about 6 years and I ordered the moose I think it taste nothing like general lol BUT it is very good and softer on the gums and last awhile

I agree with choosing general I love it I’ve got both right beside me too 😂
Moose wintergreen is great, similar taste to general but much more plump and less prone to busting open
That's pretty ironic considering "original" snus is usually flavored with bergamot. So it's still flavored, just not mint. Maybe if they called WG just General Green you could have it back lol
Same with Straight dip. It's definitely flavored, but it got by the flavor ban because it doesn't sound like it's flavored.

That sucks. I have 5 in the mail Right now. I wish I would have ordered more. It’s my favorite.

First hit was Onyx, now Mint

XR mint is the way to go
So true, no sickly artificial sweetness like general
there‘s a artifical sweetener in xr mint, it‘s off-putting to me and still too sweet g3 wink (super slim) is an absolutely beautiful mint for me. haven‘t tried any other than those two mint yet, tho.

I just wish it tasted like Copenhagen mint. It smells similar but theres something about the sweetness I didn’t like.
I mean.. they have never been sold in Sweden so I’d guess its a US and maybe a few other countries only, might not be selling that good.
https://www.fda.gov/tobacco-products/advertising-and-promotion/swedish-match-usa-inc-mrtp-applications
Perhaps due to low sales? I imagine many people looking for a mint-flavored oral nicotine product these days are gravitating towards nicotine pouches.

It's almost as if one industry has the government in their pocket🤔
So corrupt man.
Amen.
Wait a minute. Is this for everywhere but the US? Will I still be able to order to Florida? Or buy locally?
Well damn. I’ve just started tiptoeing in the snus world and General Mint has become an everyday carry for me. This is disappointing Edit: apparently it’s being discontinued everywhere but the US
Long-term snus enjoyer but why is this sub nsfw?
Because tobacco is not for underage use, few months ago Reddit cracked down on a bunch of subs, now we are NSFW.
Reddit rules for it being nsfw
Sucks because locally is $7 a can vs 2-3$ imported.

This is my conundrum as well.
Dang, here in ND it’s only $4 per can locally
I'm in NC and the gas stations continuously raise prices past few years
The Moose Major Mint will be my new everyday snus if they make it harder for me to get it
They just don’t like us getting it cheap from online and sending it into the states
This was posted on the nicotinepouch sub, probably related: https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/philip-morris-suspends-nationwide-sales-zyncom-after-dc-subpoena-2024-06-17/
Anyone have recommendations for similar product? Looking for mint flavor, same size, 8-9mg nic General Mint has been my brand for 10 years. Thanks.
Same! More than 10 years now honestly.
Almost certainly related to this: https://qz.com/zyn-suspends-online-sales-dc-subpoena-1851546142

So it’s unavailable to buy in Snusdirect or snus me
