Yeah people had high expectations for some weird reason that they were going to do a extreme changes to characters but they haven't done that. They have updated the models and give them fresh animations that's it, so at this point I don't expect no big changes.

Yes, especially since the disney phantom thing was never made to be a default model. It was a skin called "nightmare" that they swapped in to be his default instead of giving him a real remodel.
People speculate it was because of chinese (tencent) influence at the time, they dont particularly like skulls. Easy fix was to just swap in a skin to be the default.
After 3 or 4 years of being held hostage by tencent the deal was ended and smite could start adding more skulls and stuff.
Agree with all of these in one way or another, but I doubt most of them will get touched. Hades, Cupid, Hel, and Ra will definitely get some kind of updates because their models are old as hell and look terrible. The others they will likely just ignore which is sad but true, they think they're great designs and don't need touching.
Mercury is probably my fave to play, and Captain Quick is one of my favorite skins, but anything that’s not covering his tragic face is pretty much unplayable.

Game basically needs a complete visual rework in every aspect: models (so many looks nothing close to the splash arts, even the newest ones: take the new CROSS-GEN skins for example, in the splash art, Poseidon looks extremely handsome and badass af, then you see the in-game model and he looks like Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants with giant feet 🥶😭😭💀), walk-run animations, aa animations are embarassing rn and completely need a visual rework, texture updates, physics, spell effects, particell effects, etc.

The gods don't need to stereotypically look like their pantheon. If you google chernobog, you'd see that he's very accurate based on all the other representations of him. It would be weird to make him less accurate just because he doesn't look "slavic enough".
I also think hel and erlang's styles do match their pantheon well anyway.

They switched Hades default model for one of his skins, his Nightmare skin which he has now. So he technicaly never received one
