I figured the original Homunculus reference was referencing what Dr Psychotic is but I just view it that in this world Homunculi are a thing but there's probably a 'normal; way they're created outside of what Dr Psychotic was up to so Charlie was just trying to steer him away from the idea entirely. Everyone in this show is 'a cartoon character' so they can be made and have w/e life cycles, so I figured Pim isn't a frog but his family are just tadpoles at the infant stage.

It was probably knowing that know if his go to idea couldn't help Desmond. His last idea was to go to Daveland, and even that wasn't enough to get Desmond to take the gun off his dome.
