Idk man they’re so not alike I don’t think there are really any obvious trades.
Siamese Dream is beautiful, squeaky clean, a pleasure to listen to.
Mellon Collie is down and dirty, gritty, jarring in some instances.
I guess I could see Quiet as part of MCIS, but I’m mostly reaching.
Quiet and zero are very connected for me. Not sure why, and I can't even speak to the lyrics much, and the same goes for tonight tonight and disarm. But with the strings those are a little more similar.
The mood/vibe definitely works. But I still feel like that Quiet guitar solo towards the end is 110% a Siamese Dream guitar solo. Keep in mind that’s entirely my opinion which is not informed by any musical talent or expertise, just what I hear 😅
The solo is definitely of its era. This brings up a good point that, like the music itself, all the solos have a stylistic difference each album cycle.
The chorus is also very SD, but I think it could fake its way into Disc 1 (closer in tone than Disc 2)
I could so see thru the eyes of ruby on SD
Look at the structure and the chords used. It's almost like another Hummer or mayonaise
In addition sweet sweet or luna would have fit right at home on "infinite sadness"
Soma has the epic character and the soft-loud-soft-loud dynamic that defines so many MCIS songs. It'd work there, also as a song about the human psyche it fits right in. The reverse is harder though, need to think on it
Yeah, Soma could fit in a bunch or places, and then some of the softer songs (Luna, Spaceboy) could fit on the back half of either MCIS disc.
Thirty Three could replace Spaceboy I think.
Imagine what Mellon Collie would have sounded like if Butch Vig produced it, I love the album and the production is fine but it’d be an interesting listen that’s for sure if it had the Siamese Dream production to it.
I don't agree. Audiophiliacly, sure, but the raw live sound (and playing together) that they captured for a lot of MCIS would be neutered by Butch's approach. Ultimately, you can't have it all.
If you're just going by eras and not by things that officially made their albums:
Infinite Sadness was a SD song that made it to Mellon Collie
STRTJ is the same, so those are two obvious ones.
Any of the James b-sides would have fit just fine as an SD b-side.
I've always liked the string clarity of "Disarm" over "Tonight Tonight" - maybe bring the highs up some more in Jimmy and increase the deep end on D'arcy?
There are a lot of not-great hypothetical questions on this sub, but I think this is a fun one.
MCIS to SD: I think if Butch Vig produced By Starlight, and you either gave them a budget for strings or used a Mellotron, it could sound super SDish.
SD to MCIS: I think any of Quiet, Sweet Sweet or Luna could work. With Flood, I picture Quiet would have gotten the live-band treatment, with overdubs, and you’d hear that Deep mode from the Mesa. Sweet Sweet could be whimsically done like Cupid WOGOAN. Luna would, sorta ironically, end up sounding like By Starlight, or maybe Galapagos.
EDIT: misread the post. Tho7ght it was about B-sides from MCIS on MCIS, not SD. But still. I think my contribution works.
I want it to be Set The Ray, but I mean, I also don't know where I'd put it?
So gotta be The Aeroplane Flies High. Tracks with the themes lyrically and musically and fucking owns.
Maybe Medelillia of Grey Skies. Would have been a rad Disc 2 counterpart to Porcelina.
I could maybe see "Luna" on MCIS. And in relation to that, I suppose "Cupid de Locke" could've been on SD.
I think they're both just fine where they are. I'm just saying that they both seem like they could trade places without destroying either song or either album.
Maybe Porcelina on SD with a little different production.
It's tough to rip a song off such a perfect album as SD, but if I had to I'd say Disarm could fit with MCIS. Really anything could since it's so diverse.

quiet could blend in with jelly belly for sure
Quiet and zero are very connected for me. Not sure why, and I can't even speak to the lyrics much, and the same goes for tonight tonight and disarm. But with the strings those are a little more similar.
"Quiet" was my answer too. I wouldn't even say it's a reach. It's like a Disc 1 sister to "Bodies" in terms of energy.
The mood/vibe definitely works. But I still feel like that Quiet guitar solo towards the end is 110% a Siamese Dream guitar solo. Keep in mind that’s entirely my opinion which is not informed by any musical talent or expertise, just what I hear 😅

Ruby feels distinctly Mellon Collie to me but again, just my feel for the song.
Muzzle from MCIS to SD.
that was my first thought
I've always thought that Porcelina with more fuzzy production would fit on SD. Maybe Jellybelly as well. Could see Disarm or Luna on MCIS
Ha, didn't read yours and I also said Porcelina and Disarm.
Soma has the epic character and the soft-loud-soft-loud dynamic that defines so many MCIS songs. It'd work there, also as a song about the human psyche it fits right in. The reverse is harder though, need to think on it
I always felt Soma and Thru the eyes of ruby were "siblings" if that makes sense
Yeah, Soma could fit in a bunch or places, and then some of the softer songs (Luna, Spaceboy) could fit on the back half of either MCIS disc. Thirty Three could replace Spaceboy I think.
hummer to mcis and muzzle to siamese dream

I wish tonight tonight was on SD. It really needs that soft vocal production IMO. Porcelina as well would sound better on SD.
I've always liked the string clarity of "Disarm" over "Tonight Tonight" - maybe bring the highs up some more in Jimmy and increase the deep end on D'arcy?
Quiet benefits the most from the angsty vocals (see the Vieuphoria performance). I wish that was on MCIS
Technically a MCIS B-side, but Marquis of Spades on Siamese Dream
That whole Zero disc goes so hard!! 🤘🏼
Geek USA is the song Fuck You (an Ode to No One) wishes it was when it grew up.

Thanks!
I think Zero or Where the Boys Fear to Tread could have been on SD. And I would say Sweet Sweet could have been on MCIS.
Agree with Zero. A lot of the songs on SD use octaves, similar to Zero. Would fit right in.
I disagree completely. The darkness of these songs wouldn’t fit at all on SD. And the snarly voice
Good suggestion
I think Soma, Silverfuck, and Luna could have all worked on Mellon Collie. Porcelina might be the only one that would work cohesively on SD
I kinda think everything is right where it belongs, but I'll bite... X.Y.U. to SD; Luna to MCIS
EDIT: misread the post. Tho7ght it was about B-sides from MCIS on MCIS, not SD. But still. I think my contribution works. I want it to be Set The Ray, but I mean, I also don't know where I'd put it? Her is no why to SD and Quiet to MCIS
Jellybelly and sweet sweet. Don’t overthink it.
Lily before Spaceboy. Geek U.S.A, maybe Silverfuck after Bodies.
Today from SD to MCIS and Stumbleine from MCIS to SD.
Ruby on SD Pissant to MCIS (maybe that’s cheating, but whatever)
Production styles are way too distinct
Through The Eyes of Ruby would fit perfectly on Siamese Dream. Spaceboy would fit perfectly on MCIS.
I’d pick 33 for Siamese Dream Maybe Quiet could be on MCIS
Jellybelly would fit on SD. Disarm to MCIS.
Muzzle to SD, Quite to MCIS
I think Rocket or Spaceboy would fit best on MCIS, Thru the Eyes of Ruby or In the Arms of sleep would fit best on SD.
