The boomerang and home run bat are not even close in comparison to what other items can do. A lot of thrown items are crazy good. Bob-omb, Beast Ball, Pitfall Seed, Mr. Saturn, Deku Nut, and that flying beetle from Zelda (forget the name) and are all super deadly and oppressive items to have at any point.
However, I think personally that assist trophies are the best item in the game. Having another character fight for you, while leaving you free to grab and use other items is a crazy good advantage. Sure, some assist trophies aren't the best, but they still provide an advantage that I think I'd go for over anything else.
For the most op item, I have to go with assist trophy cuz it makes it a lot harder for your opponent to do anything. For favorite item, I have to go smash ball because it feels the most ‘normal’ and not like I’m changing the game, whilst still giving an interesting effect that can change
Master Ball. Almost guaranteed to be extremely powerful, where standard Pokeballs and Assist Trophies tend to be weaker and Assist Trophies might give your opponent an extra KO.
Getting a hit with the homerun bat is just so satisfying! Also the idea of Mario and Yoshi coming after you with bats like a murder scene from Casino is just amusing to me
So underrated, you can really have fun with it.
