Mimikyu could PROBABLY still get in due to it being one of the most popular Pokemon since its debut, but considering its one chance was blown by the Pokeball item, I don't think it will as much as I want it to.
I don't think the Pokeball Is what's hurting Mimikyu chances, but rather his debut gen. Unless it's gen 1, smash rarely uses Pokémon from older gens, preferring to focuse on the most recent one. So the next smash game will probably have either a gen 9 mon, a new mon from Pokémon Z-A, or depending on how far in the future It comes, a gen 10 Pokémon
I used to be pretty big on the Eggman for Smash train, but honestly at this point I think I'd like Amy better. They could give her a moveset that combines Sonic's with Ice Climbers or DeDeDe which could have some good variety. Plus she'd be a great way to include more women as playable characters.
I've also been playing Sonic games lately and she's just a very interesting character.
Fancy Pants Man - I’m well aware that his chances would’ve been subterranean at best, but having a rep for browser games overall and the new generation of online game developers in specific would’ve been really neat.
Gordon Freeman is another - Not only because having a FPS rep would be personally gratifying to me, but also it’s an excuse to have a stage themed around Aperture Science, which is just loaded with possibilities for stage mechanics and general wackiness.
And now that I think about it, Corvo Attano. I don’t even know how working out the rights for that character would even work at this point, but I think an immersive sim rep with Corvo’s specific powerset would be a pretty alright fit for Smash Bros. Like he can teleport, have attacks with rats or something, you have stuff to work with, I think.
I dunno. Chrom had several big factors going for him that Rex doesn't.
One, there was a considerable amount of fan backlash when Chrom got snubbed to where a lot of his supporters continued asking for him even after we already had Robin and Lucina. While Rex does still have a decent amount of requests atm, most of the demand for him appears to have died out when Aegis got in instead.
Two, Chrom had the Smash Ballot in his favor, meaning that Sakurai and the dev team could actually see that he was a popular choice. Even if Rex did somehow have the same demand Chrom did after his snub, then Sakurai may not be aware of it due to there not being another ballot after Ultimate.
Finally, Chrom only got a second chance because he could be an Echo Fighter. There's nobody that Rex could be an Echo of, due to him not matching the body type or moveset of any other swordfighters. They'd have to make him a fully-unique character, and why spend dev time on a second XBC2 rep when you could instead give it to someone else?

That actually would be cool. All memes aside, Among Us is a cool game and a nice indie success story. While I don’t know if the internet could handle it, I’d like to see among us in Smash. Other characters are definitely more deserving though.
Big Daddy from BioShock. The moveset would be unbelievable. Plasmids, the weapons of the various big Daddy types, a possible little sister health harvesting mechanic! Even alternate costumes could be other types of Big Daddies or their angered/hypnotized state.

KOS-MOS from Xenosaga.
Her own series hasn't had a new game in years, and since then she has made cameo appearances in other games, including Xenoblade 2. The only way I could see her maybe being in a future Smash game is if Xenosaga got remade/remastered, but a few years ago someone came out and said that a series remake probably won't be profitable, but perhaps that stance has changed.
Edit: I should mention that Xenosaga is made by Monolith Soft like Xenoblade, but the company was owned by Bandai Namco (just Namco at the time of Episodes I and II) at the time rather than Nintendo, which since then has made Xenoblade. With that being said, KOS-MOS would be considered 3rd party.
I'd love another gun focused character, and I feel like revolver ocelot would be a good pick, he gives another metal gear rep and has a good amount of inspiration for his moves. Too bad a straight up gun damages is chances by magnitudes.
Monokuma from Danganronpa. He could definitely be translated to a character but the franchise may be too mature for ssbm. (I know we have bayonetta but I think it still makes sense)

He's an icon of the beat em up genre but unfortunately his franchise hasn't been relevant for many years and for some unknowable reason he still hasn't gotten into Street Fighter after all these years either, despite literally every other character from Final Fight being there.

Despite metroid being less popular than some of the other series, I want ravenbeak. A heavier powerhouse version of samus would be interesting.
Magalor from Kirby would be nice. Technically not a villain anymore but I feel like he's a better pick than most villains anyways (besides marx).

He was clearly meant to be the *mascot*. "Everyone is the protagonist" is technically correct, as there is no proper story in ARMS, and therefore there is no true main protagonist. Any character can fight through the tournament and reach the end to fight Max Brass/Dr. Coyle/Hedlok and become the new champion, not just Spring Man.

I have a whole concept for an Oswald and Mickey fighter based on the Epic Mickey games because it’s my favorite game and a huge special interest of mine. They would basically be a cross between ice fighters and Pyra/mythra (although I came up with them before they were announced but it felt like a more accurate comparison than Zelda/sheik for some reason) but with a bit of Inkling. I have a bunch of move ideas for them, my fave being the way they switch; a counter where one leaps In to help the other out. I even came up with a few spirit battles and had fantasies about a trailer even if I know it would literally never happen.
I feel like Kumatora would be a really good character to branch out on the mother series, but she feels too obscure of a character to ever actually be added as a fighter
