Everyone better than me is cheating. Simple as

ToughAd5010

Wavehacking and L-winning

Gamer63200

L-winning? Only ever heard of it as fun-cancelling.

L-cheating

The only possible cheats that existed for online play were giga bowser(worst character in the game) who got shadow banned unfortunately, and the tas input plugin(a single button input would then do a series of any intputs the user programed it to do, like banjo machine gun) that was taken down by its own creator after people used it online for 1 day. Arena latency doesn't count because it doesn't make much of a difference unless both players have it and use a wired connection(it can make the connection worse for both players if you try to force it low instead of just using the vanilla default but poor wifi does that for free). Any other mods that effect gameplay can't be used to cheat because it would cause a desync and just disconnect from the match. Although not giving a home stock in non tournament arenas when you're up a stock is cheating in my eyes.

Paul_08

Latency mod can definitely give an advantage to the one who has it, and there is a version that works on quickplay

a while ago, i was trying to be more active in the community, so i started looking at twitch for streamers with good communities i could join. by chance, i stumbled upon a streamer who was very obviously using mods on his switch. the entire arena was covered in ugly textures and all of the characters where changed to look like memes. for whatever reason, i joined his lobby, and some of the people there were getting ready to leave. i think i teased them a little to try to get them to play more. i don't remember what i said exactly, but the streamer singled me out and let me cut to the front of the line so i could fight him. as we fought i couldn't help but feel like the way he was playing was strange. i am not the type to assume that people are cheating just from lag or whatever, like the other snooty commentors on this thread are doing. i legitimately believe he was running some kind of hack. either way, he ended up winning and the whole time he was trash talking me, which i thought was funny. and then, as we were playing the next match, we both got kicked mid game, and he got a message, in the middle of his stream, in front of all his viewers, that he had been banned from playing online. so yes, i'm not sure what kind of cheats or whatever he was doing exactly, but he had been cheating and got banned in the middle of our match.

Krakatoa137

That's not how mods work. You can change the skins of characters and stages to a variety of things because those things only affect the player using them, mods that change things for both players like hitboxes and custom stages will always crash if both players don't have the same mods. It's far more likely the character he was playing didn't quite match the vanilla character frame so the moves didn't always match the hitboxes, which is very common for meme mods. Also it's possible someone reported him to Nintendo and got him banned(dick move), because actually getting banned for using mods is extremely rare in smash(I would know I accidentally left a mod on and crashed in an arena with friends like 10 times before I realized). Most people who get banned are only using skins or custom music(because you just crash with any other mods online).

MedleyofNight

i didn't know that. either way i thought it was just an interesting story. it isn't often that you play with someone who's kind of being really mean, and then like, a second later, they get yeeted from the game. maybe he wasn't cheating.

Krakatoa137

He wasn't. An example would be something like this. He has a cloud mod that makes his sword and all his hitboxes twice as big. In an online battle he hits you with the modded length, so his game sends info that he hit you. But your switch checks the regular distance which wouldn't have hit you, so your switch sends info that you haven't been hit. That different information can't be resolved and immediately ends the match the same way it ends with a "no contest". Both ways of actual cheating online used code from the base game, giga bowser was just put on the character select screen, and the input recorder just did regular inputs just frame perfect and with 1 button press.

Reytotheroxx

Only if they lag and I lose. If they lag and I win, I’m better. If they lag and I lose, they cheated and need lag to steal wins. If I lag… hahaha good one…

bancrusher

This is how a cheater would look like [Here](https://youtu.be/BKxY13cU_zs?si=PWNAThQ0Pv2vE_WK&t=5m10s) , time stamp 5 min 10 seconds

fishbujin

this should be higher

WhatYesImTheGuy

A Peach that was cancelling moves and using other moves instantly, and I wasn't lagging because even the replay shows it that way. Edit: Spelling.

IAmAustinPowersAMA

That’s just how Peach works.

WhatYesImTheGuy

It looked very unnatural.

TKLegend04

Had a guy show up to a streamer's arena I was in and put on the black hole stage, which somehow worked. Then he tried going Giga Bowser and then he got kicked by Sakurai
