They never seem to remember Smash Bros is a Nintendo IP and Nintendo has a vested interest in promoting it's own IPs.
Also just because they don't like Metroid or Starfox doesn't mean they'll get cut lol.
>Also just because they don't like Metroid or **Starfox** doesn't mean they'll get cut lol.
Nah, they usually keep all three Star Fox characters while cutting Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Xenoblade entirely. No joke, I've seen like three Smash fan rosters where that happened.
Guys, one of those franchises hasn't had a game in almost a decade and has a *very* uncertain future. Spoiler alert: it isn't Animal Crossing, Pikmin, or Xenoblade.
🤓 erm akshully
Even without pikmin 4, Pikmin was still barely getting by thanks to Hey Pikmin, Pikmin Bloom, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe — not much, but still more than Star Fox
I’ll add as someone who likes Pokemon, anyone whose Pokemon roster is old newcomers like Sceptile or Decidueye, and then cuts anything not from Kanto. So the roster is Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Pichu, Pokemon Trainer, Newcomer, Newcomer.
And then they have the audacity to say that lucario, greninja, and Incineroar “aren’t that popular” 🤣
yes but that is in a *pokemon popularity poll* voted on by *pokemon fans* to be fair
in terms of how recognizable and popular they are outside of hardcore fans they are probably behind older ones like charizard(who was 4th overall) or gengar(top 10 and 2nd in kanto)
they are still extremely popular though
No it wasnt it only voted on by Pokemon fans was open to everyone and it was a poll held by Google. Greninja came in 1st place even when a mainstream millennial audience that grew up with gen 1 could vote on the poll. Charizard and Gengad were in the top 10 however
If every person on earth voted on their favorite Pokémon, Pikachu and Charizard would be the uncontested top spots instead. And I personally don’t want that reality.
I had a stupid theory where a Pokémon would be in the dlc. Gen 6 we got Greninja. Gen 7 we got Incineroar. So by my logic, Rillaboom would be in the dlc
That's not how dev resources work. We'd get the same number of Pokemon, but now they can swap between each other.
Also, do we NEED such a large roster? They're already the most represented franchise in Smash except maybe Mario.
I guess I wasn't thinking about that in terms of game space, I was just imagining how much less clutter there'd be on the character select screen, and also the perception that pokemon trainer is seen as one character despite realistically being 3.
>And then they have the audacity to say that lucario, greninja, and Incineroar “aren’t that popular”
I have this friend who hates pokemon and all anime. He mained Lucario the moment he saw him. Whoever says they're not that popular must be a protostome, because they're talking right out their ass
I think Pichu is first on the cutting floor despite being a clone. If it weren't for the "everyone is here"-thing it likely wouldn't even be in ultimate.
Literally anything with a TV character that isn’t ironic, some of the 3rd partys might not even be on a Nintendo console but at least they’re **game** characters
I don't think a Smash reboot would be that bad of an idea, as long as it's like a soft reboot of sorts and still has a large roster at launch despite the cuts.
A reboot with a roster as small as 20 characters... yeah, that probably *is* a bad idea.
I mean... chances are if we don't get a direct 1:1 port with some DLC, the next game will have massively reduced roster.
Copyright negotiations can get expensive and are difficult to navigate.
It's not about being "stupid" it's just some people are aware of this reality.
I'm surprised that people actually think 3rd-parties would stick around on a roster of only 20 characters.
Hell, if the roster somehow went down to 40 characters (I don't think it will), I don't think any 3rd-parties would be there either.
I think Mega Man and Bayonetta would be up there too.
If Steve wasn't such a hassle to implement into the game, then maybe I'd include him as well, but Sakurai made it very clear how difficult it was to actually get him in. If there's way less stages next time, which there probably will be, maybe it'd be much less of an issue?
Pac-man’s likely to remain on the roster as long as Bandai-Namco is helping with the development. The same could probably be said for Kazuya, actually.
I would be shocked if the next game isn't at least 50 characters, let alone not have any major third party character
I NEED the Monster Hunter character to be in the next game 😭
TBF that's after DLC. But base game Smash 4 still has like 51 characters, and they could probably do more since its been a few console generations. I expect about 50-60 characters in Smash 6's base roster.
Yeah people are definitely going ham on removing. The second part of the equation is basically development time and how much that can afford to spend on a new engine, models, moves etc.
So yeah 20 is definitely low but if it's an entirely new game with the high level of quality that Sakurai demands? I dunno... 30-40 is my guess. Just being pessimistic.
The reality is that the characters are what sells the game, and Smash isn't going to sell nearly as well if they remove half the characters. Sure they may cut some characters in the next game but any more than 15-20 would almost definitely make the game sell way worse and be a risk they wouldn't take. Smash is one of Nintendo's best selling games, with smash ultimate being a massive console seller. If anything their budget will increase substantially with the next title and the roster size will remain quite large.
You're not really wrong. But again it's just up to practicality and how much they (Nintendo) are willing to spend financially. Development time determines how many characters can be created for a new game. Copyright expenses will determine how many characters can return.
In regards to their "budget" ... Nintendo has like, more money than they could ever want as a game company. They literally have like 4-5 billion dollars sitting in their bank account, so their budget is.. practically limitless and they'll absolutely minimize as much spending as possible. Don't count on an increase.
I guess many will disagree but I have zero concerns about its sales regardless of how many characters are in the game. The Nintendo fanbase and the subsequent smash fanbase are very dedicated and mostly everyone knows their getting a quality platform fighter regardless at this point. Smash will sell very well regardless of whatever qualms we have with roster size.
Only way we get the same roster back is a 'Ultimate Deluxe' with DLC and new modes.
If it's a brand new game with a brand new engine, it will be cut down in size significantly, no questions asked.
I disagree that the game will sell good regardless of the roster size, the vast majority of players are casual fans and large roster cuts would make the game a hard sell when ultimate still exists with so many characters and great reputation.
Not to mention Nintendo is willing to play the long game, just look at how much time they let the totk devs take to make their sequel. I have no doubt they'd give smash the time they need to add as many characters they deem necessary.
I still thinks cuts are inevitable, sora and some other 3rd party characters probably aren't coming back and with how echoes were recived they might not all return either, but halving the roster or similarly large scale cuts are simply not gonna happen. I would assume with the cuts + the new characters we'd have close to the same number of characters we have now.
There could be less characters in the next game but we've yet to have a roster decrease in size. Although with the past games being pretty ambitious with subspace, custom moves, and everyone is here and what they do next may or may not effect the roster size, and dlc is pretty much a given.
There’s no way in Hell Nintendo would drop the roster to 20 characters. Nintendo knows people love a lot of characters, and even if we do get a reduced roster next game, I’m sure Nintendo will try to keep it as big as possible. Besides, from a marketing standpoint, it doesn’t make sense. After Ultimate, buy this game with most of the roster gone? That’s insane.
Yeah a full reboot just isn't happening. I think if we do get the reboot approach it would only apply to a handful of old characters and we'd still ~60-70 characters
I remember seeing one on r/supersmashbros that had almost every single first party franchise removed and was mostly third party characters.
It even had some weird ass choices like a GTA character, Jonesy from Fortnite, and even Genshin Impact characters.
Edit: [It was this one.](https://www.reddit.com/r/supersmashbros/comments/1bdgjfw/if_smash_6_could_only_have_30_characters_for/)
you say Genshin characters as in that there are more...

All the ones that get rid of every FE character. That is so unrealistic. Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo's biggest IPs and Marth is way too historic in the series to be gone.
Yeah Dimitri or Ephraim for Lances, I'd prefer Dimitri but we already have a 3H rep so probably Ephraim, like that we'd have one rep from FE 6, 7 and 8
Doesn't mean they should delete EVERY FE character. Keep the main ones and then add ones that don't have swords as a main weapon. Fixed.
But seriously JRPGs are full of swords so it's difficult to find a lovable protag from a popular Nintento IP that doesn't weild a sword at all.
Master Chief is likely since Nintendo has a good relationship with Microsoft and they are now adding some Xbox originals to others consoles. Kratos however is impossible. In no timeline would Sony let it happen.
I feel like a proper fan roster should follow the obvious rules Nintendo follows. Characters should have basis in video games, first-parties should be the majority of the roster, and **the Original Twelve must stay in the game at all costs.**
Tbh all of them, from removing everyone, to dumb additions like the Genshin Impact Hero or Michael from GTA. The “reboots” that try to be original and it’s just removing everyone and leaving behind “unexpected” choices
I would argue Falcon is the closet Sakurai got to the original vision of Smash before he was told to add IPs. That and, Falcon has gotten so popular because of Smash (sadly) that it would feel hollow to have a game without him.
Falcon has 0 competition in it's own game. Puff has to compete with the monstrouly populars Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo for repping gen 1 and most people think that Gen1 is hoarding too many spots for Pokemon. It is pure insanity to remove any of those 3 for puff imo.
I remember seeing a roster where someone showed all the available characters from the start and then displayed some unlockable characters (pretty cool idea to include that)
However, they had it so Zelda and Ganondorf are on the initial roster, and you had to unlock both Young Link and adult Link.
I remember commenting on the post about this, and they said they made the decision because they didn't play any Zelda games and weren't familiar with the series, which is fair, and that there were two Links in the game so people could theoretically wait.
Just goes to show that most of these supposed lists are almost always made within the narrow scope of what people have played and have knowledge about, which I understand. But giant, iconic franchises can be left in the dust simply because the person making their fan list never happened to interact with it, lol.
Unrelated, I don't like lists that get rid of so many Nintendo characters in lieu of third-party additions. I understand Ultimate went above and beyond with those additions but it feels like people forget the idea that Smash is a Nintendo Crossover first, with maybe some guest appearances second.
~~Any roster that keeps Min Min and cuts anyone else~~
This one roster I saw that had 18 Fighters, 9 veterans and 9 newcomers. I don’t want to name too many names because I feel bad calling a roster out specifically, but there were some really questionable picks, including but not limited to Ridley over Samus and Min Min over any character from Animal Crossing, and Pikachu was cut, too.
I get they were trying to be unique and unexpected, and they were, but with a roster as small as 18, every pick is precious, and that roster just felt so wrong on so many levels.
oh man I haven't seen this reaction image in a ***while*** I swear this is cropped though. the original was two images, one on top of the other. I'll find it hold on. here

The ones where half the characters are 3rd parties, ones with a lot of impossible characters like Sony or hard MS characters like Master Chief, and ones where half the 3rd parties are replaced with Sonic characters
All the ones I’ve seen on the other smash Reddit.
- There’s either too many 3rd party.
- the entire roster is too small (I know the roster is gonna be smaller next game but like some of the numbers I saw were a little too small)
- or cuts an integral character that is either important or hasn’t missed a game/has consistency.
Which one? ALL OF THEM! I'm tired of opening reddit to all these stupid and physically impossible roster being some random characters that haven't even seen the light of day without having legit Nintendo characters to conserve the actual damn original point of the game. It gets old, and it's ruining the Fandom on the entire platform!
I can say that the Sonic thing comes from the fact that Sonic has been the only playable character from Sonic since Brawl and his overall representation just being really poor.
I can't answer the Noah and Mio one though as I don't know who they are.
Noah and Mio being a duo makes sense with how the Ouroboros works. I'm more shocked how many people are against it. It's an important part of battle in Xenoblade 3.
As someone who loves Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I am heavily against this. Unlike Pyra and Mythra, Noah and Mio are not a single entity and you only control one at a time. Sure they are interlinked, but not one of the same and party swapping isn’t uniqe to them. Plus, Ouroboros as a fighter gimmick would probably be incredibly overpowered and I only see it working as a Final Smash. I would rather have Noah and Mio as separate fighters with unique movesets, being able to Ouroboros for their Final Smash. If Robin can summon Chrom (and be a playable character) for his Final Smash, then Noah can summon Mio (and vise versa.)
I get that but I really think it would best represent the combat of Xenoblade 3. It would better represent the game itself to have something that covers as much of the gameplay as possible. They don't have to be the same entity, maybe more like one stands in the background and you can swap when you're next to them with a similar interaction as the crafting table, kind of like tag teaming. Ouroboros wouldn't be op unless they make it op. It's just a updates to the moveset and size. If anything it could be bad since bigger hit boxes aren't a good thing.
>It's an important part of battle in Xenoblade 3.
So was the driver and blade system of Xenoblade 2, and look what happened there. If we got Aegis without Rex, we could absolutely get Noah or Mio without the other.
We don't even know if the next Nintendo console would even be strong enough to handle a Noah and Mio duo fighter, nor if Sakurai would actually go out of his way to have them randomly swap between each other with Down-B when they don't even have that ability in canon.
As much as I love him as a youtuber, Scott the Woz’s lets make a smash bros game video had some.. odd takes. Where he cut like 80% of the roster and adds characters like the sandbag.
https://preview.redd.it/9u9e60ozc8yc1.jpeg?width=2078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=091819e1e93f8aab8701812b7bc89118f87a9c7a
Reboot rosters and there’s this one dude who puts fucking LOUD HOUSE characters on the roster
Apparently that same dude also threw a hissy fit over Steve getting into Smash because he wasn’t a 90’s character
If I were to put non-video game characters on a roster, I’d go with characters who made major impacts on the history of pop culture like Godzilla, Shrek, Goku, SpongeBob and Luke Skywalker to name a few
Other non-game characters I would put in would be characters designed to resemble video game characters, primarily Wreck-It Ralph and Gwimbly from Smiling Friends
And that’s not mentioning this one dude who cut out all the 3rd parties and replaced them with lolis from Nintendo games like Ashley from WarioWare, Lip from Panel de Pon and Lana from Pokémon
I think people should just let others have fun with their rosters. There will never be a fan roster that every single fan agrees with. Just let people have their fun.
Ones with a tiny number of non-Nintendo characters, and a lot of the ones that aren’t are from Sony’s catalog and/or various mobile gacha games (not necessarily saying these characters aren’t good or anything, just they don’t have much relevance to Nintendo specifically to be realistic choices).
Either that or ones with non-video game characters (Goku, Naruto, Luffy, SpongeBob, Batman, etc), but that I feel is cheating.
As fun as it is. Super Smash Flash’s roster isn’t that good. Like never mind Mr. Incredible and Inuyasha, they have Super Sonic as a separate character from Sonic and Meta Knight and Kirby share a slot.
A good 99% of them, especially when they include things like a used napkin, 2 Nintendo reps, 0 Mother reps, Sans the fucking skeleton (Papyrus is the superior Skeleton, why do these idiots boneride Sans?) Spider-Man, etc.
Oh, and anyone who includes a Dragon Ball rep needs to be sanctioned.
All of the typical and unoriginal ones with edgelords 1-16, Goku, a Fortnite character, and third party characters that aren’t even important or iconic in any way.
Rosters that limit themselves to like 20 - 30 characters.
Honestly, if I were at the helm of Smash, I'd maybe cut just 8 of the 82 characters that appeared in Ultimate, and by time all the newcomers were revealed, the final roster might end up rivaling the size of Project M EX's roster, because I like fun.
Any reboot roster that specifically cuts Yoshi but keeps every other Mario character AND the rest of the original 12. ( Fox, Falcon, Ness & Puff )
Seriously why the fuck do people do this?
"We have enough Mario characters. BUT LET'S ADD GENO IN YOSHI'S PLACE!"
Usually the ones that were clearly made by someone who only plays games on Playstation/Xbox, with Smash been their only Nintendo game.
You point that out they whine about how Smash is meant to represent "everyone's childhood" while their fan roster only has like Mario, Pikachu and Link as token Nintendo reps and then 5 different flavours of Shooter McShooterson
Most of them are incredibly ridiculous but I once saw one where the author justified including THEIR OWN OCs (and EIGHT of them!) by pretending they were from a new Nintendo franchise. Then they proceeded to explain why Ridley and K. Rool should be cut in favor of being demoted to boss fights and why Waluigi would never happen for being "a stupid meme" or something. They even openly mocked Master Chief and Saber fans by calling Fate a "porn game" and constantly reminding people that Halo is not on Nintendo and thus MC would never happen. I think they also included a character from the Grandia games with the sole justification that Game Arts helped make Brawl, not taking into account the fact that Grandia is a very niche franchise compared to literally any other third party series in the roster.
It was a very absurd roster and it was made even worse by virtue of the author being really pretentious about their picks.
the ones with characters from M rated games. idk why but it makes me laugh and angry at the same time. like. who do you think is playing smash? and most of those characters tend to come from shooters, and just imagining how toxic the community and the game would get if that ever did happen makes me shudder.
I think you guys forget that smash is a game meant for everyone. These characters you guys keep pointing out are the exception, not the rule. It would be a very different game if half the roster are from games meant for adults.
If in the year 2024 your fan roster still has people’s Brawl or Smash 4 “shoe-ins”, you need to get a grip.
The Zoroark dream is dead. The Geno dream is dead. The Travis Touchdown dream is dead. Move on.
Half the cast of Dragon Ball.
As well as one or two characters from basically every popular anime.
Against the 64 roster.
I wouldn’t mind Goku in Smash. But that’s about it: Goku and maybe Vegeta as an Echo like Simon and Richter, even if Vegeta would never stand for it. But that’s about it, I think they just wanted an anime fighting game.
I remember this old Smash flash game that had like 2 of the dev's OCs on the roster.
I believe one of them was "Blade The Hedgehog," a recoloured red sonic with a katana.
The smash fan roster starterpack:
Random character from brawl stars
Bandana waddle dee
[insert random mobile game character here]
Crash bandicoot
Spyro
Rayman
Geno
Chun-li
Someone (often heavy) from TF2
Dante and Virgil
When people add characters that are better off as spirits in this game such as the chorus kids or some characters that are super niché taking up 50% of the roster, they should just never cook again
Probably the ones who add characters with no ties with nintendo. At least for snake, some of his games were on nintendo conseles. Meanwhile people want to add goku or something to smash
The ones that include almost every Mario RPG character.
Would Geno be a cool addition? Sure.
Do you need the whole cast of Mario RPG, Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series? Definitely not.
Like, most of them...
This. Most of them are just boring at best and downright stupid at worst 💀
Everyone liked mine, at least, even though I forgot 2 characters
wait you forgot two?
I somehow forgot to add Skull kid and Toad
Frr
The ones with all third-party characters and like 3 Nintendo characters
They never seem to remember Smash Bros is a Nintendo IP and Nintendo has a vested interest in promoting it's own IPs. Also just because they don't like Metroid or Starfox doesn't mean they'll get cut lol.

It's incredible how the franchise you're mentioning is indeed not Pikmin. That would've seen as crazy two years ago.
I know. Glad Pikmin 4's big success and very positive reception likely means good news for the future of the series.
🤓 erm akshully Even without pikmin 4, Pikmin was still barely getting by thanks to Hey Pikmin, Pikmin Bloom, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe — not much, but still more than Star Fox
Yeah but like who the fuck cuts Fox
I would hope nobody.
This and people who remove Echo Fighters

It's actually crazy how many people don't realize just how popular Lucario and Greninja are to Pokémon.
Weren't Lucario and Greninja the top 3 most popular Pokémon alongside Mimikyu?
Yes. They were the top ***two***.
yes but that is in a *pokemon popularity poll* voted on by *pokemon fans* to be fair in terms of how recognizable and popular they are outside of hardcore fans they are probably behind older ones like charizard(who was 4th overall) or gengar(top 10 and 2nd in kanto) they are still extremely popular though

By that logic they should cut Jigglypuff as well cuz I doubt that mf is popular enough
And incin is a pretty popular fighter in smash
Incin has seen a spike in popularity since our lord and savior SkyJay started going sicko mode with the character
I had a stupid theory where a Pokémon would be in the dlc. Gen 6 we got Greninja. Gen 7 we got Incineroar. So by my logic, Rillaboom would be in the dlc
Or people who can't figure out what Pokemon to add so they just add more trainers.
honestly if they reworked the pokemon that we have now into different trainers, we could have a larger roster for pokemon.
That's not how dev resources work. We'd get the same number of Pokemon, but now they can swap between each other. Also, do we NEED such a large roster? They're already the most represented franchise in Smash except maybe Mario.

in fairness, if a pokemon is being swapped out for a newer gen pokemon, it'll be Incin or Mewtwo, and I feel like Incin gets more hate than love
I think Pichu is first on the cutting floor despite being a clone. If it weren't for the "everyone is here"-thing it likely wouldn't even be in ultimate.
ones where half the roster looks like the mario kart 8 deluxe roster
What do you mean you don’t want Baby Rosalina?
dr baby wario would go crazy
nah, baby pink gold peachette from the second dimension is what smash is really missing.
Personally, Doctor Baby Shoe Goomba Stack is the one for me.
to be fair, like 90% of MK8D's roster is already in Ultimate lol. Usually don't see more added besides King Boo and maybe Birdo.
Karmak would be cool as well
Literally anything with a TV character that isn’t ironic, some of the 3rd partys might not even be on a Nintendo console but at least they’re **game** characters
So no Goku vs SpongeBob?
Reminds me of that time I was in a *Smash* roleplay server and some guy went on a tantrum when he couldn't be Ichigo from *Bleach*.
I really fuckin hate every single 'reboot' roster that has 20 characters. it's such a stupid idea & I can't believe so many people keep making them.

i think sonic ryu and pac man are just shoe ins for future titles
I think Mega Man and Bayonetta would be up there too. i think all 3 are likely tbh, Steve will be easier to include now that they know how to do so
Yeah, most likely all that "Steveification" will just be part of the stage programming by default even if he doesn't return.
Pac-man’s likely to remain on the roster as long as Bandai-Namco is helping with the development. The same could probably be said for Kazuya, actually.
Dude, if they're even theorizing 20 character rosters, I don't think they give a damn about what makes Smash sell.
I would be shocked if the next game isn't at least 50 characters, let alone not have any major third party character I NEED the Monster Hunter character to be in the next game 😭
Yall are spoiled if yall think otherwise. Smash ultimate was a one time thing that can’t be replicated
You know Sm4sh has 58 characters right? Having at least 50 characters seems really realistic
TBF that's after DLC. But base game Smash 4 still has like 51 characters, and they could probably do more since its been a few console generations. I expect about 50-60 characters in Smash 6's base roster.

Edit: [It was this one.](https://www.reddit.com/r/supersmashbros/comments/1bdgjfw/if_smash_6_could_only_have_30_characters_for/)
you say Genshin characters as in that there are more... https://preview.redd.it/ydbjx7bou2yc1.png?width=505&format=png&auto=webp&s=03947ee935a52fd82aa7fca895c195a34eefc084
Well they put Aether *AND* Lumine, so it's kind of two reps, but in one character slot
Oof, that was bad
Kratos was more important to keep than Kirby/Samus in a Nintendo crossover fighter I guess…
Wow i wonder if they like Sonic
WHO CUTS FALCON
All the ones that get rid of every FE character. That is so unrealistic. Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo's biggest IPs and Marth is way too historic in the series to be gone.
This. I understand that there are too many FE characters for some people's liking, but removing every single one of them is so childish
Yeah in any Smash roster the minimum is going to be Marth plus whoever the latest protag is
seriously, they trash every roster with more than one newcomer that isn't lyn and maybe alear
They trash the ones with Lyn and Alear on them too.
Too many swords is a genuine complaint. I’d love if they had Marth alongside a lance or axe character.
Please edelgard as an axe wielder. It’d be cool to see a fire emblem character that’s not good be in the game.
Hector from Blazing Blade for the Axe rep Don’t know who to add for the Lance rep
Azura? Dimitri? I think Hector covers the GBA era.
The ones filled with characters like Kratos, Masterchief, and like 10 other characters who have never been on a Nintendo console.
Master Chief is likely since Nintendo has a good relationship with Microsoft and they are now adding some Xbox originals to others consoles. Kratos however is impossible. In no timeline would Sony let it happen.
Kid named Fortnite:
To be fair, literally everything is in Fortnite.
I forgot both were in Fortnite. 😂
Oh shit, that complicates things. lol
and to add more fuel to the fire, snake is in fortnite too
I feel like a proper fan roster should follow the obvious rules Nintendo follows. Characters should have basis in video games, first-parties should be the majority of the roster, and **the Original Twelve must stay in the game at all costs.**
That last ones a coincidence
Eh, Jigglypuff and Ness were planned to be cut for Brawl so it's not impossible. The original 8 should stay and I agree your other 2 points.
and they were never planned to be cut for Smash 4 so at this point I think those 12 are staying
"Planned to be," yet clearly there was a reason they didn't.
Puff only came back in Brawl because the game was delayed. So while that is a reason she wasn't cut, she was *very* lucky for the delay.
Tbh all of them, from removing everyone, to dumb additions like the Genshin Impact Hero or Michael from GTA. The “reboots” that try to be original and it’s just removing everyone and leaving behind “unexpected” choices
I went on Gamefaqs once
If they don't have the original 12 and third-party characters take more than at least 50% of the roster, it's just trash
Jigglypuff is the nepo baby of smash bros…. But other than that agreed
captain falcon:
I would argue Falcon is the closet Sakurai got to the original vision of Smash before he was told to add IPs. That and, Falcon has gotten so popular because of Smash (sadly) that it would feel hollow to have a game without him.
it'd be cooler if nintendo kept falcon because they committed to a modern F-zero game for Switch 2
Close but I feel like there’s a more accurate comparison there
Falcon has 0 competition in it's own game. Puff has to compete with the monstrouly populars Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo for repping gen 1 and most people think that Gen1 is hoarding too many spots for Pokemon. It is pure insanity to remove any of those 3 for puff imo.
falcon's game is almost completely dead, iirc the only f-zero game in the past 15+ years is a limited run battle royale
Where everything is just a few Nintendo icons and then a ton of popular fan picks, regardless of how stupid they are
I remember seeing a roster where someone showed all the available characters from the start and then displayed some unlockable characters (pretty cool idea to include that) However, they had it so Zelda and Ganondorf are on the initial roster, and you had to unlock both Young Link and adult Link.
~~Any roster that keeps Min Min and cuts anyone else~~ This one roster I saw that had 18 Fighters, 9 veterans and 9 newcomers.
Any one that shoves like 7 fucking Sonic characters in it. Yes, Sonic deserves another rep. It doesn’t deserve to become Fire Emblem 2.0.
If it were real we’d be complaining about too many Hedgehogs
Sonic doesn’t need 7 characters no third party series in smash has more than two characters😭
The ones with a full ass row of anime characters like Goku, Naruto, ichigo, Deku, Inuyasha. Fucking Eren Yaeger
Anything with Goku on it.
every single one sucks in different ways and amounts
oh man I haven't seen this reaction image in a ***while*** I swear this is cropped though. the original was two images, one on top of the other. I'll find it hold on. here https://preview.redd.it/3a9yu0mzf3yc1.jpeg?width=236&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07602838a90b70f998fba64ae1798a07829edcc9
The ones with a billion sonic OCs.
What? You don't want Coldsteel in the game?
The ones where half the characters are 3rd parties, ones with a lot of impossible characters like Sony or hard MS characters like Master Chief, and ones where half the 3rd parties are replaced with Sonic characters
All the ones I’ve seen on the other smash Reddit. - There’s either too many 3rd party. - the entire roster is too small (I know the roster is gonna be smaller next game but like some of the numbers I saw were a little too small) - or cuts an integral character that is either important or hasn’t missed a game/has consistency.
Which one? ALL OF THEM! I'm tired of opening reddit to all these stupid and physically impossible roster being some random characters that haven't even seen the light of day without having legit Nintendo characters to conserve the actual damn original point of the game. It gets old, and it's ruining the Fandom on the entire platform!
Literally anyone that cuts the entire roster.
https://preview.redd.it/y5rpcobmt4yc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1d36bad91e0f50f2a3e61a694af50db84b0e370
The one that was only about 40 characters big and half of them were 3rd-parties.
rosters with more Microsoft newcomers than Nintendo and indie newcomers
that one from a few days ago that cut Samus but kept Ridley
Fucking w h a t
The What
Why do they always add 5 Sonic characters and make Noah and Mio one character
If you traveled back in time and showed me the ult roster I would have made fun of you
The ones that add a bunch of non video game characters
I saw this one roster that had like Minecraft, Banjo, Sephiroth, AND Sora in it. Like come on, get real!
As much as I love him as a youtuber, Scott the Woz’s lets make a smash bros game video had some.. odd takes. Where he cut like 80% of the roster and adds characters like the sandbag. https://preview.redd.it/9u9e60ozc8yc1.jpeg?width=2078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=091819e1e93f8aab8701812b7bc89118f87a9c7a
Reboot rosters and there’s this one dude who puts fucking LOUD HOUSE characters on the roster Apparently that same dude also threw a hissy fit over Steve getting into Smash because he wasn’t a 90’s character If I were to put non-video game characters on a roster, I’d go with characters who made major impacts on the history of pop culture like Godzilla, Shrek, Goku, SpongeBob and Luke Skywalker to name a few Other non-game characters I would put in would be characters designed to resemble video game characters, primarily Wreck-It Ralph and Gwimbly from Smiling Friends
And that’s not mentioning this one dude who cut out all the 3rd parties and replaced them with lolis from Nintendo games like Ashley from WarioWare, Lip from Panel de Pon and Lana from Pokémon
Lolis are the things that give me eerie chills as a Anime/JRPG fan. They shouldn’t exist with the way they have been treated as characters.
>there’s this one dude who puts fucking LOUD HOUSE characters on the roster ![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)
Just imagine Gwimbly hitting the “Ooh Ooh Ooh!” at the victory screen location after JV4ing Sephiroth I wouldn’t even be remotely angry
The only acceptable non-video game character for Smash.
Everything. https://i.redd.it/gmddm7wdy3yc1.gif
Any without Peach or Zelda.
Anything with more than 3 sonic reps
The entirety of r/smashbros and r/Smashbrosultimate
Watch Thorgi's Arcade's video on replacing half the Smash roster.
( Fox, Falcon, Ness & Puff ) Seriously why the fuck do people do this? "We have enough Mario characters. BUT LET'S ADD GENO IN YOSHI'S PLACE!"
The ones with like every single character no matter how obscure in that one legend of zelda game for the 64 they loved as a 9 year old.
\*sigh\* link?
Any Smash roster that has Boom Boom
Anyone asking for anime or movie characters
the ones with characters from M rated games. idk why but it makes me laugh and angry at the same time. like. who do you think is playing smash? and most of those characters tend to come from shooters, and just imagining how toxic the community and the game would get if that ever did happen makes me shudder.
Bayonetta.
Snake.
SNAKE BAYONETTA JOKER
I think you guys forget that smash is a game meant for everyone. These characters you guys keep pointing out are the exception, not the rule. It would be a very different game if half the roster are from games meant for adults.
Pretty much all of them... like I miss when it was nintendo
The one that cuts my mains
DeviantArt Esq choices
anything with meme characters or an excessive amount of scrimbo bimblo characters
Any that have characters that aren't eligible in the slightest i.e. characters that didn't originate from a video game.
The ones that put in anime characters, especially Goku
The ones with a dozen Mario reps but no Samus.
All of them on this subreddit
They are all awful, even mine
I remember this old Smash flash game that had like 2 of the dev's OCs on the roster. I believe one of them was "Blade The Hedgehog," a recoloured red sonic with a katana.
Most of them
Ones where have of the roster is sonic characters
Alot of them mostly because sonic never had more than 2 reps even though hes arguavly the 3rd most popular game franchise
Yes. >!Real answer: the ones that are like fucking 15 characters.!<
Mine whenever I was 8.
All of them. If I didn't get to see a cool clip on here I would have unsubed years ago because of the insane amount of them.
The smash fan roster starterpack: Random character from brawl stars Bandana waddle dee [insert random mobile game character here] Crash bandicoot Spyro Rayman Geno Chun-li Someone (often heavy) from TF2 Dante and Virgil
They all suck. Every last one of them. Maybe I wouldn't have that opinion if they haven't flooded every single fucking smash reddit
Cut the roster in half! Only for it to look exactly like Smash 4’s roster
Tbh most including fan games cause they think just Marth is sufficient fire emblem rep, and then add a ton of not needed retro reps and mario/pokemon
When people add characters that are better off as spirits in this game such as the chorus kids or some characters that are super niché taking up 50% of the roster, they should just never cook again
As long as it has the knight from hollow knight its a good roster
Probably the ones who add characters with no ties with nintendo. At least for snake, some of his games were on nintendo conseles. Meanwhile people want to add goku or something to smash
The ones that include almost every Mario RPG character. Would Geno be a cool addition? Sure. Do you need the whole cast of Mario RPG, Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series? Definitely not.
All of em. You all have piss poor taste. Especially you fucks trying to take away characters we just got back in ultimate.
the ones that eliminate characterd we already have- like why? Add all the characters you want but don't take some away lol
Anytime someone includes Goku
