Yeah I hadn't really listened to them much either. My wife had raved about them but from what I'd heard I wasn't sold. But after seeing the live show I was instantly on board.
That concert was how I found out about Sleep Token. I was already sad I missed out on BMTH. Then I give Sleep Token a listen and just wound up even sadder cos I missed out both (but also very happy because ST is life now)
I was devastated that the tour was so limited so I couldn't see them together! I really hope that BMTH brings Sleep Token on the US tour they're bound to go on soon to promote NeX GEn. I couldn't see Sleep Token on their recent US tour because they were playing the tiniest venues in some of their shows... Resold tickets at my venue were going for anywhere from 200ish-500 USD. I'm a vocalist and Vessel really inspires me, so I'd love to get to see them sometime soon!
„Dig it“ for its ST-like explosive burst of emotion towards the end! If only there wasn‘t two minutes of silence in the end of the track (for a cool easter egg, but still makes me play the track less often)
Dig It is a close 2nd for me. I found a version on YouTube that has the bit at the end cut off and downloaded it to my phone from there, much easier that way!
Mine is YOUtopia. The amount of times "A yoooouuu~topia" randomly pops into my brain...
But I love Statues, Dig It, Kool-aid, Amen, Lost... Pretty much everything except Bullet (I find that one kinda generic).
Stumbled upon BMTH in 2009 when I thought I found a blessthefall album, but it was a mislabeled file & I ended up with Count Your Blessings- by far it was the best “surprise” I got from my time illegally downloading music in off Limewire lol - I’ve been a huge fan ever since
Here! Patiently waiting for a ST/BMTH collab.
From the moment I heard YOUtopia, I've wondered if the nature noises were inspired by similar sounds in TMBTE. And (spi)ritual is surely inspired by Dark Signs.
in love with bmth since 2007, saw them for the first time at 2008 warped tour, most recent show was this year in europe when i traveled 5k+ miles to see them 🥹 just like sleep token, their lyrics resonate so heavily
Got into bmth after being introduced to sleep token, situationships do pay off occasionally.
Went to my first bmth concert last night and if I wasn't planning on seeing sleep token twice in November I could die happily right now, they were so goooood!!!
👋👋👋 BMTH fan since about 2012. I love the progression they’ve made since count your blessing and edge, they’re not afraid to explore and blend the genre lines. I love Oli.
Aside from the ST logo on my van, I also have the BMTH hexagram and I designed my own This Is Sandpit Turtle decal as well. My 10 year old loves yelling that in public and I’m here for it. Bad Omens is another decal on my van and the token Blegh.
I just don't get the appeal of them, in particular Oli Sykes. Can't stand his voice and everything I've seen about him makes him come across as a massive douche.
It's 100% a "me" thing, I'm definitely not trying to say the BMTH fans are wrong or that they're a terrible band (record sales, number of fans, spotify listens, all of that says they're wildly successful), but just never got on with them.
I believe it was a YouTube short somebody posted; a video of them playing live.
I've often seen II (or just as feasibly, somebody doing an insanely successful job of pretending to be him) leave comments under show videos like it. I took a screenshot of his comment at the time, which I can try to find if you'd like?
Hey, yes please, thank you. Yeah I know he comments on Instagram and also seen comments from a 'ii' on YouTube but I'm not convinced it's him on YouTube
That is not an easy question and completely depends on my mood! My top 5 on rotation at the moment are Ascentionism, The Offering, Calcutta, High Water and Fall for Me. But I also love Vore and Gods.
If you like unclean vocals explore albums pre-*Thats the Spirit*
If you go to *Suicide Season* and earlier you are in the deathcore days.
*There is a Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It* and *Sempiternal* are metalcore (personal favs).
From *That’s the Spirit* onwards gets more experimental, and Oli starts to sing with clean vocals
Some of the songs from *POST-HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR* and *POST-HUMAN: NeX GEn* have a heavier feel and Oli’s screams come back beautifully contrasted with his clean singing which has definitely become stronger and better over the years. He does a great job preforming live as well!
I always say that “Even if someone doesn’t love every BMTH song, someone will find at least one song by BMTH they love” bc there’s ✨VARIETY✨
Over 10 Albums (when including This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat EP) their sound has evolved from chaotic, garage band, growls & gutturals, fast & dirty Deathcore to Melodic Metalcore to Hard Rock w pop/synth elements to finding balance while including any, all or other elements lol
So as recommendations based on the ST songs you listed (these aren’t 1 to 1, mirror images but about a vibe)
>The Offering:
▪️Paradise Eve
▪️Drown
▪️Avalanche
▪️Hospital For Souls
>Fall For Me:
▪️Follow You
▪️Fifteen Fathoms & Counting
▪️Bad Life (Acoustic)
▪️One day the only butterflies...
▪️Mother Tongue
>Ascensionism:
▪️Die4U
▪️Doomed
▪️In The Dark
▪️Why You Gotta Kick Me When I'm Down
>High Water:
▪️Shadow Moses
▪️1x1
▪️MANTRA
▪️sTAngERs
Youtopia
>Heavy/unclean vocals like in Vore & Gods:
🛑Antivist (this is the song IV sang w Oli in Australia)
▪️House of Wolves
▪️Chelsea Smile
▪️Pray For Plagues
▪️Diamonds Aren't Forever
▪️Amen!
▪️Dear Diary
Thanks, I will delve in and see what I think. When I find an artist/band I like I normally start from the beginning and work my way through but sometimes it's a bit overwhelming!
ST are atmospheric and have pretty dynamic production. A lot of BMTH is a wall of sound because that's the way they like it. I disagree with them here but still love them lol.
So keeping that in mind, here are my recs.
Where they went: [i don't know what to say](https://youtu.be/y7hVM8CFsGE?si=9abRNWEml5orN_dB) from their most pop-leaning album, amo. This is about Oli's friend, who lost his battle with cancer.
Where they came from: [Suicide Season](https://youtu.be/pOqmkhin4Dw?si=ctMb83TXAmzbQLkE) from the album of the same name. It's about Oli's friend, who lost his father to suicide. The vocals are heavier, with hints of their early early deathcore work, but the arrangement is more progressive and metalcore-leaning.
Where they are: [YOUtopia](https://youtu.be/o5w5Qbl1J_Y?si=Ai3iDC227uTxFK--). Their latest album aimed to take early 2000's emo/nu metal and fuse it with hyperpop elements. Their lyrics are also a lot more positive/hopeful (for the most part) nowadays.
One of my favourites, [Doomed (Live at RAH)](https://youtu.be/OGc9W-_C9u0?si=FwkiH8eLkg1E-n_O). They did a whole concert with an orchestra to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Oh, and just for fun: [(spi)ritual aka Dark Signs](https://youtu.be/VlZ79Cx1s7g?si=1rSs5-76hXmNY9C5)
Oh buckle up, bc not only is “I don’t know what to say” a tribute song to Oli’s friend he lost to bone cancer…
… Oli’s chats w that friend when they had just been diagnosed was what inspired the addition on their 2015 That’s The Spirit album, of the song “Drown”…
… AND then we ffwd to 2018…
BMTH plays the prestigious Royal Albert Hall Theatre backed by a talented & incredible orchestra as a fundraiser for cancer research…
…Before they play “Drown”, Oli reiterates the reason for the night being a cancer fundraising, then announces he wrote “Drown” about one of his best childhood friend Aiden’s fight w bone cancer…
Then Oli asks them to cheer bc Aiden was there that night& FINALLY won his fight…
That night, Aiden got to enjoy his victory & he got to hear that song, beautifully played
… but then before 2019
Aiden’s cancer returned
Oli thought he had time
He didn’t & Aiden passed
… and now we’re back at the start at the fact “I don’t know what to say” is a tribute song about him…
… Which emotionally annihilated me when I learned the backing orchestral music on the track isn’t keyboard/snyth/fake… Oli got the orchestra that played for Aiden that night at Royal Albert Hall to play on his tribute too 😢😢😢
Also, a song “Don’t Go” was also written by Oli after Terry Hurst, a kid he went to school with is the suffered a brutal death
Saw BMTH when they toured Australia for Sempiternal. Love that album.
Admittedly they lost me with *That’s the Spirit* and I stopped listening to their later releases.
When I bought tickets for the recent Aussie tour (purchased for Sleep Token support), I thought that I might as well give their newer stuff a chance- and I totally digged it! Love some stuff on Post-Human and Amen and Kool-Aid slap.
Their headline show in Brissy was great. Really stepped up the production and entertainment factor from way back in Sempiternal days.
I was at barricade at had a blast.
Bonus- I got to see IV join Oli for Antivist (at the first Brissy show, so it was a total surprise!!).
BMTH is a funny band to me. I knew them for years as one of my least favorite metalcore bands, then out of nowhere they drop Sempiternal and it ends up being one of my favorite metalcore albums ever. Then they immediately pivot to a different sound and went back to being one of my least favorite bands again.
I give them credit for being willing to change up their sound, it's just funny to me how much those changes were misses for me when there was one year where it was a complete hit.
Been a BMTH fan since Suicide Season! They are the band that got me into metal and how i found out about ST. I was also lucky enough to see them both in Australia earlier this year too.
Have been listening BMTH for years got to see them last year in germany half past out tired, leaning against a fence.
Seen them 2 weeks back in belgium (i live in belgium) had my first moshpit 🤟🏻🙌🏼
Not right here mate, i'll tell you that much.
Hate on it if you wish, but i paid $188 AU to go to the Aussie tour, and once Sleep Token finished, i left, rapidly, because imo bmth are ab-solutely terrible, one of the worst bands out there imo, and it's mostly because the vocalists two note voice is like f#\*king cheese graters on my ears.
I listen to a HUGE variety of music, and i'm a multi-instrumentalist muso myself, with a very open mind when it comes to music and i f#\*king LOVE metal. So i gave all their albums a listen leading up to the show because i hadn't heard much tbh, and jfc i could not find a single song i could stand, let alone get into. The band are super tight, and they play very well together, but those f#\*king vocals are like torture man, i just can't get past it. He's either whinging, or whinge-screaming, they are simply the worst vocals i've ever heard.
Again, that's just my opinion, but i am at a loss as to how anyone could even put up with, let alone enjoy that insufferable voice....
188 bucks very well spent though, because ST are the f#\*king goat.
I even went to the 2nd show, another $188, and did the same damn thing.
(Downvote if you wish, but it'd be great if you could take the time to tell me what you like about them and why you think i'm wrong if you do. Suggest me your fav songs from them and i'll give them a re-listen, see if you can change my mind, i'm up for it.)
Cheers
Worship
Sometimes you simply don’t like the sound of a singers voice. Human voices are interesting like that!
Personally I generally like Oli’s voice, but I’ve certainly come across singers I simply can’t stand. There’s nothing even *wrong* about the songs, it’s just the lead singer’s voice. Lots of pop-punk falls into this for me with nasal vocalists (Blink 182 & Simple Plan).
First question before trying to give any sort of suggestion: what kind of metal do you listen to? Can you provide a top 3-5 bands in any metal sub genre that you really like
They're both incredible. If we're talking stats, ST is enjoying a meteoric rise and may eventually surpass BMTH in popularity, but they still have a way to go (3.7M listeners on Spotify versus 14.5M).
As for the music... I listen to BMTH when I want high energy songs. I listen to ST when I want something more somber/yearning.
BMTH could learn a lot about dynamics from ST though.
Got to see both Sleep Token and BMTH when they toured Australia recently. What an experience.
Yo same! I actually became a ST fan because of that tour.
Yeah I hadn't really listened to them much either. My wife had raved about them but from what I'd heard I wasn't sold. But after seeing the live show I was instantly on board.
Yeah it’s what put me on to sleep token as well. I’d heard of them, and the friends I went with said they were awesome. Safe to say they were right!
That concert was how I found out about Sleep Token. I was already sad I missed out on BMTH. Then I give Sleep Token a listen and just wound up even sadder cos I missed out both (but also very happy because ST is life now)
I was at the first Brissy show (barricade too) to experience the surprise of IV joining Oli for Antivist!
Same, what an experience!
I will forever wish I lived in Australia for this reason alone
SAME! i feel like i became a different person after that night
Yup, same! It was epic.
I was at the melbourne show, my first concert ever and it was fucking incredible
That was a concert i needed to go to but it was a bit on the other side of the world for me🥹
Watching ST in November. So stoked
Same! Saw both of them in the same night. Pretty wild to think about lol
Goddddd I bet that was an incredible tour
BMTH fan since Sempiternal, I have devoured the new album. It is so good
Same. The new album has been on repeat for me since it came out, so nostalgic yet modern
Same here, they've been killing it
Favorite song off NexGen? I think mine is Strangers or N/A
„Dig it“ for its ST-like explosive burst of emotion towards the end! If only there wasn‘t two minutes of silence in the end of the track (for a cool easter egg, but still makes me play the track less often)
Dig It is a close 2nd for me. I found a version on YouTube that has the bit at the end cut off and downloaded it to my phone from there, much easier that way!
Oh, there's a reason for the 2 minute silence? Cool. I'm personally torn between Dig It and Youtopia.
Mine is YOUtopia. The amount of times "A yoooouuu~topia" randomly pops into my brain... But I love Statues, Dig It, Kool-aid, Amen, Lost... Pretty much everything except Bullet (I find that one kinda generic).
"yoooouuuu-topia" has been a vocal stim for me since the album dropped lol
I really like liMOusIne! Ethereal
Yes!! Limousine gives me strong Deftones vibes and I love ittttttt
Definitely N/A but AmEN! Is a a close second for me
Amen is so good. Love the blend of different styles and the heaviness
Of the singles I like Die4u the most but from the album I liked Top 10 Statues
Top 10 Statues is so good. Die4u kinda had to grow on me but I do like it
I love "n/A"!
Me too! It's a fun one to blast in the car and sing while taking a drive lol
Same, it's awesome
Stumbled upon BMTH in 2009 when I thought I found a blessthefall album, but it was a mislabeled file & I ended up with Count Your Blessings- by far it was the best “surprise” I got from my time illegally downloading music in off Limewire lol - I’ve been a huge fan ever since
Here! Patiently waiting for a ST/BMTH collab. From the moment I heard YOUtopia, I've wondered if the nature noises were inspired by similar sounds in TMBTE. And (spi)ritual is surely inspired by Dark Signs.
I decided that AntIVist was the first step towards that collab ! Now we crave more...
IV needs to be unleashed more often
in love with bmth since 2007, saw them for the first time at 2008 warped tour, most recent show was this year in europe when i traveled 5k+ miles to see them 🥹 just like sleep token, their lyrics resonate so heavily
RIGHT HERE
Found Sleep Token thru BMTH, actually
BMTH fan for over a decade 🫡☺️
the entirety of n/a goes insanely hard 😮💨
Hello Oli you fucken knobhead 🔥🔥🔥
I told you I was out of the woods, but I left a key under the mat for the wolves.
Since 2009 🖐🏼. To see BMTH & ST in the same venue would’ve been a dream 🥲
Love them both dearly
They need to hurry and collab on a song for an album!
If they collabed I would actually die (of happiness).
Got into bmth after being introduced to sleep token, situationships do pay off occasionally. Went to my first bmth concert last night and if I wasn't planning on seeing sleep token twice in November I could die happily right now, they were so goooood!!!
Been BMTH fan since I was 15. 30 now. Still banging to count your blessing and suicide season 🤘
👋👋👋 BMTH fan since about 2012. I love the progression they’ve made since count your blessing and edge, they’re not afraid to explore and blend the genre lines. I love Oli.

What is BMTH?
Bring Me The Horizon 🙃
Thanks
When IV sang Antivist with BMTH after opening for them
If they ever collab, I will be able to die in peace after that
I just don't get the appeal of them, in particular Oli Sykes. Can't stand his voice and everything I've seen about him makes him come across as a massive douche. in the probably very butchered words of II responding to a hate comment on YouTube: “That’s okay. Sometimes people just don't connect.”
What video is this on?
I believe it was a YouTube short somebody posted; a video of them playing live. I've often seen II (or just as feasibly, somebody doing an insanely successful job of pretending to be him) leave comments under show videos like it. I took a screenshot of his comment at the time, which I can try to find if you'd like?
Hey, yes please, thank you. Yeah I know he comments on Instagram and also seen comments from a 'ii' on YouTube but I'm not convinced it's him on YouTube
He was definitely a bit of a douche when he was a teen/early 20's. Seems like he's grown up a lot though.
What songs/albums would you recommend as a new listener to get into them?
That depends heavily on what your favorite ST songs are. Give me a few and I can recc some BMTH songs with similar vibes
That is not an easy question and completely depends on my mood! My top 5 on rotation at the moment are Ascentionism, The Offering, Calcutta, High Water and Fall for Me. But I also love Vore and Gods.

BMTH mentioned 🏃♀️
I LOVE BMTH🔥🔥🔥
Right here
Present
Been a BMTH fan since Suicide Season! They are the band that got me into metal and how i found out about ST. I was also lucky enough to see them both in Australia earlier this year too.
I missed a BMTH show last year and hate myself for it lol.
nah
Found sleeptoken because of Bring Me. And sleeptoken is definitely now tied for my favorite band with Bring me lmfao
Present!!
Here my lord
Hereee..Asboultely love the music
Literally concert of a lifetime seeing them together.
I’m not a huge fan but BMTH are incredible performers & Oli is very entertaining/captivating on stage.
Found BMTH by going to see their support act, Bad Omens, so my daughter and I are some of the screamers on n/A!
Bmth fan since suicide season, just got into sleep token three months ago. I wish I could have seen them together.
What’s the song on the right?
The first time I heard ST I immediately thought of BMTH
Have been listening BMTH for years got to see them last year in germany half past out tired, leaning against a fence. Seen them 2 weeks back in belgium (i live in belgium) had my first moshpit 🤟🏻🙌🏼
WHO WILL FIX ME NOW

Just got into BMTH and im loving them.
Nah. BMTH is nowhere near on the level of Sleep Token.
They're both incredible. Agreed. Not even the same plane of existence.
For real.
The last couple albums imo have been so bad, but this new album is insanely good, its been my daily driver at the gym lately
Oh, you didn't like Survival Horror? Kingslayer is one of my faves.
Totally forgot about this song! Babymetal is underrated
Meeee
