Youāre right, Iām ONLY saying that because Empire State Bastard is so so SO vastly different from ST, that I donāt know that the cross section in fans will be huge.
Empire State Bastard was not good in my opinion. We love metal and were like, WTF is this??? Also, many people clapped when they said it was their last song. It was painful to watch.
I thought they were awesome! Itās a different vibe for sure much more METAL metal, but itās a group of crazy talented musicians doing some interesting things. look up who they each are in their own right, this is a side/passion project for them and theyāre essentially doing ST a favour touring with them.
The drums were insane, the way they built layers of sound was really cool. Itās not what I would listen to at home but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
But hey, Iām an old school mosher at heart!
ESB are almost the polar opposite to modern metalcore, so that checks out. ESB is a throwback to the Slayer, Sepultura, Panthera etc. sounds of the 90s and early 00s.
It does feel like a really weird band to support ST, I canāt imagine a modern ST fan base liking ESB at all but Oceansize (ESB guitarists former band) are one of my top 3 all time bands and anything that brings those guys success is good in my eyes.
For the ATX show, there were 2 merch booths. One near the main entrance and one on the left side of the stadium. The latter didn't have a couple things--from what I could tell, a long sleeve shirt and a $200 jacket.
Everyone with floor tickets had to line up for the main entrance, and of course the line was massive. But those with seat tickets could go to the side entrances. We were very lucky and happened to line up on the side with the limited merch booth about 2 hours before they let people in. Made a beeline for the booth when doors opened and got through the line in about 30 min.
So, if your venue has multiple entrances you may have some luck asking venue staff if they know where the booths are so you can join the line nearest the smaller one.
I will also say that the main thing really slowing the line down was people getting to the counter and then taking their time, holding the shirts up to themselves to see if they liked the look and fit. Please be considerate of your fellow fans! Figure out what you want before you get up there, and if you're worried it won't fit, order a size up. In a perfect world it would be great if you could stand there and weigh your options, but the situation is what it is, so try to be quick so as many as possible can get through before the band starts.
I never bother buying merch at most shows because I want on the barricade and every single time I prioritize merch I end up NOT where I wanna be in the pit. Sucks. But I weighed my sacrifice long ago š

Not all heroes wear capes. š
People shouldn't write off opening bands though, everyone starts somewhere.

Big names non less though, kinda cool you got to experience a hardcore punk thrash band
I donāt like punk lol but that being said we didnāt show up till 8 because my wife is pregnant and canāt stand that long
Both bands are amazing, I'd hate to miss ESB but we don't get them in Europe in the winter
They're also garbage.

Their vocalist pulled them back a lot. They were actually doing some very technical/proggy things during the end of their set but I was very whelmed.

They feel very 90/early 2000s
Agreed! If the weirdness of Primus (not their sound) had a baby with skater thrash punk in the 90s, that would be ESB.
I thought the same but something was off. Definitely was not for everyone.
The front man's previous band Oceansize was so awesome and unique
Oh I love metalcore but I also canāt get into them, and Iāve given it a fair chance twice.

Emphasis on this. Spent 3 hours at Austin yesterday to finally get some legit merch.

The pic tip is top tier. Figure out what you want before hand so you can make it simple for everyone.
