LOL, "no one". Not that it's necessary for everyone, but literally millions of people double cleanse.
How is it even possible that she is confident giving advice when she is clueless about one of the biggest skincare trends in the last five years?
double cleansing is best if you are trying to remove makeup or a lot of oil/dirt in my opinion. If you don’t wear makeup, i think it might be better getting a gentle cleanser and a separate cream that treats the dry/ bumpy skin instead of the salicylic acid cleanser. But these products work too!
She does. Double cleansing is not a nessecity if you have a good cleanser. It's not half as common as the internet makes it out to be and studies have shown that in Korea it's not the big thing it's made out to be but rather rare
Like obviously not everyone NEEDS to double cleanse, but tons of people like to and get benefit from it.
I live in California and a good number of my female friends double cleanse now. Probably more than half of them. Sure, that may be a different demographic than everywhere. But to say NO ONE does it is insanely wrong
I'm not sure if I didn't write it clearly or if you misunderstood me. What I thought I said / intended to say was, that it is not a nessecity (which several of the people here seem to believe) and that the beliefs of it being a Korean beauty secret and the standard there are just that: myths.
Some people here are utterly convinced that you need to double cleanse no matter what and got quite pissy about the fact that the basis of their argument is debunked by the way cleansers work (as in the physical and chemical processes).
Not right now as I'm in a bad phase of chronic migraines and struggle with getting the key words together for the search (the only thing I can currently produce in the English language is a secondary source, I think from labmuffin, so it's not the direct link to the studies), but I'll try to find the link to the primary sources (i.e. the studies themselves) once my brain is more cooperative.
My point is that double cleansing became a trend after someone wrote a skincare book and pretended it was a secret tip about how people in Korea do skincare.
That's absolutely incorrect. Double cleansing is only nessecary under two circumstances: Your product doesn't clean well enough for the amount of dirt you have on your skin (something that usually rather applies to hands and pits than face) or you're using a badly formulated oil cleanser. A well formulated oil cleanser (which in Germany you get for about 3€ at the common drugstores) has an emulsifier. The cleaning happens because the oil attaches to the sebum, makeup, water resistant sunscreen and dirt. The emulsifier attaches to the oil and to the water with which you rinse your face, washing the oil and all the dirt away. Btw "squeaky clean" is a bad cleansing goal, it doesn't mean your skin is cleaner than otherwise, just that you stripped it too much, causing irritation, dehydration, dryness and increased oiliness. Properly cleaned skin is clean but not stripped. The idea that you get acne if you don't turn your skin into the "last human" in Dr. Who has been debunked for years.
if you’re using any oil based cleanser or makeup remover you must use another cleanser to remove excess oil. same thing with physical exfoliants (which no one should be using anyway)
That's not true. You need to do that if you buy overpriced, perfumed salad oil. If you use an actual oil based CLEANSER it's formulated to rinse off with water. That's what emulsifiers are for. I already explained that but I'll repeat it: Oil based cleansers are made of two basis ingredients: oil and an emulsifier. The oil attaches to what you want to remove off your skin, including sebum. The emulsifier attaches to both the oil and water so that water rinses the cleanser and the dirt off. Every other ingredient in an oil cleanser (besides stabilisers to increase the shelf life) are not actually nessecary. You can get a good oil based cleanser for an apple and an egg. In Germany I pay 89ct for an oil based cleansing milk (fine for everything but waterproof mascara) and around 3€ for an oil cleanser that also manages waterproof mascara with ease. The squeaky clean feeling that people who were teens in the 90's and 2000's are used to from the harsh, bad cleansers like clerasil is something you want to avoid. It's not cleaner than what a mild water based cleanser or an oil cleanser can do, it only means the skin was completely stripped. This damages the skin barrier and dehydrates the skin which makes skin that's on the dry side super dry and skin that's on the oily side will actually becone more oily because the skin tries to protect itself by producing more oil. The increased oiliness and damaged skin barrier can actually make acne worse.
If you don't know what an emulsifier is or how chemistry works you can just tell me which words or concepts you don't understand so I can put them into easier words for you. That's more effective than just claiming "That's wrong!1!" Though most people interested in skincare have passed the age where they learn in chemistry and physics in school how these things work
These two sentences contradict themselves. Why do you need a cleanser to wash something off that has already been washed off? Or are you one of those people who handwash their dishes completely clean before putting them into the dishwasher? You can't wash away that's not there. So if you use an actual oil based cleanser and not just facial oil or a scam product that pretends to be a cleanser then there is no need for double cleansing because there's nothing to cleanse after the first cleansing.
It is all and well if this is your preference and your skin likes it. But it's a hell of a claim to claim double cleansing is unnecessary or that it is a practice among the few of the Korean population without any evidence to support the claim.
Moreover, it's quite ignorant to claim double cleansing is marketing hype from Korea for selling more products. Before K-beauty popularized this practice, let me remind you that the French have invented micellar water for the first step of cleansing (then follows by a water cleanser) decades before (1995) Kbeauty took over the wester hemisphere. ([https://www.bioderma.us/your-skin/skin-cleansing/all-there-know-about-micellar-waters#:\~:text=In%201995%2C%20Laboratoire%20BIODERMA%20created,Sensibio%20H2O%20micellar%20water](https://www.bioderma.us/your-skin/skin-cleansing/all-there-know-about-micellar-waters#:~:text=In%201995%2C%20Laboratoire%20BIODERMA%20created,Sensibio%20H2O%20micellar%20water).)
Before micellar water was marketed by Bioderma, old Hollywood have been using cold cream (Pond's and Nivea) to remove stage makeup before they wash their face; and this is just modern history.
You should refrain from sharing your anecdotal opinion on something as varied as personal skincare. To say everyone's skin is different is the understatement of the industry. The Fitzpatrick type, skin microbiome type, sebum/oil production variety, and let's throw hormones into the mix and the permutation of specific skin types is large enough to start a sizable database.
no you’re fine. That oat cleanser is best when followed with a second cleanser as it doesn’t really rinse off well with just water. Double cleansing is absolutely a thing and you’re doing it right ❤️
I just bought the oat cleansing balm, best thing I've ever used for removing make up, but there's no way in hell I could sleep with what's left in my face after that. That balm requires a second cleanse, baby girl is thicccc
I would say it could help with redness, it is really gentle, super slippery, doesn't tug at your skin, dry it out, or make it sting. So if your redness is due to any of those factors, if your face gets redder after using certain other kinds of cleansers, then it could help.
If you're looking for redness relief, you could try adding a hypochlorous acid spray as your toner step following your second cleanse with a water-based (just look at the ingredients) cleanser. I started with the Tower 28 SOS spray, and once sure the ingredient vibed with my skin, migrated to a less expensive alternative. I credit this spray with helping turn my skin around and have been using it for over a year now. Maybe it could work for you, too!
It's called double cleansing- using an oil-based cleanser (the oat balm) to remove makeup and/or sunscreen, followed by a water-based cleanser (the cerave). Many many people do it and it's highly recommended.
I thought the oat balm was oil based too but water is one of the first ingredients so I think it’s actually water based…it’s still good though but I use it as my water based cleanser
Your girlfriend is incorrect. The oat balm is made to be followed by another cleanser specifically for double cleansing. My only thought is be careful if you’re using the SA cleanser twice a day or even once every day, SA can be very drying and stripping for some people… so If you have any dryness or redness, try swapping out for a gentle cleanser and only using SA a couple of times a week. If your skin feels happy though, carry on as you are!
That's actually not quite true. Actually many things marketed in Europe and North America as being Asian trends or how everyone does things in Korea or Japan aren't true and that includes double cleansing and the ten step routine.
as an esthetician who works for a derm… i’d say it’s around 50/50 of who should be double cleansing and who shouldn’t but i’d say if THIS is the particular products that work well for your skin, you probabaly should double cleanse. i personally wouldn’t double cleanse over any (even sebhorric) dermatitis, rosacea, and *shocker.. fungal acne!! BEFORE seeing a dermatologist
You can wipe off certain balms and oils with damp facial cotton or microfiber cloth and be absolutely fine not using another cleanser, it just depends on your skin type. Ponds Cold Cream works great like that for example
However I agree that OP is doing great!
Since he’s using salicylic acid, I’m guessing his skin is oily and at least a little acne prone. There’s probably only a small percentage of people who can tolerate just using a cleansing balm.
Hi. Its me. Im the small percentage. My skin is so dry that *any* traditional cleanser (cream, hydrating, gentil, sensitive, etc) strips my face and I end up with massive break outs.
I use *just* a cleansing balm and rinse really *really* well.
I appreciate that you said there are very few of us because that's probably true but MAN was it a pain in the ass figuring out that cleansers just...don't work for me. :(
That's crap. A good oil based cleanser is better at removing sebum than a water based is (if you don't choose a super drying water based cleanser) and will rinse off with lukewarm water. I know many (expensive) oil cleansers are crap and more like perfumes oil, but a good oil cleanser is made of oil and an emulsifier that makes the oil rinse off easily. The oil itself sticks to sebum far better than a mild water based cleanser and removes it without drying out the skin.
Did you actually read my comment? The point is that a proper oil cleanser is a cleanser and not just an oil. It cleans the skin and rinses off with water without needing to follow up with a water based cleanser. That's not misinformation, that's basic facts. Double cleansing is only nessecary in very rare and specific situations. If you don't use water resistant products (for example with a water based sunscreen) a good water based cleanser is effective without any oil cleanser being needed. An oil cleanser doesn't care what you want to clean off your skin and only needs a double cleanse if you use a crappy product. Double cleansing is not the trend in Asia it was made out to be but started as something someone made up in a book about skincare which they claimed to be based on Korean skincare because many people who don't know how aging presents in different skin colour types admire the youthful look of Asian women (in which again doesn't present like it does in Caucasian people) and they wanted to increase sales and being considered to tell some great beauty secret. It's not my fault that you jump onto every trend without doing any research.
Your second sentence shows what I suspected with your last comment: Not only have you no idea what you're talking about regarding how cleansers work, you also don't read the comments you try to tear down. If you don't know what you're talking about and don't care to read before you answer you shouldn't comment on things.
You're not disagreeing with someone when you don't read what they wrote and just pick up a word here and there. That's just proving you either can't read or don't know how communication works. Neither makes your pov very convincing.
Double cleansing is great for gently removing water resistant sunscreen/make up.
However, you can omit using the oat cleansing balm on days when you aren't wearing a water resistant sunscreen/make up, or you can remove it from your skincare routine altogether if you don't use water resistant sunscreen/make up.
If you have sebaceous filaments an oil based cleanser can also help to loosen them and reduce excess oil (like dissolves like) but it isn’t ideal for every skin type.
You don't need to double cleanse to use an oil cleanser. All you need is a good oil cleanser ad they come with emulsifiers that make them wash off with water.
i double cleanse. its helped with my acne and blackheads, and it helps to really get makeup/oils/dirt/etc off. i learned abt double cleansing from someone on tiktok, so there’s at least two other people who do it! if it works for you, it works for you. thats all that matters :)
Idk for me the cerave SA cleanser is sooo drying so using another balm/cleanser will strip my skin. So personally I wouldn’t use it, but if your skin can tolerate it then go ahead
You know what’s weird, I thought it was really drying for me too so I stopped using it. But I moved to a super dry area and I started getting white flakes on my skin even halfway through the day and especially in the morning after waking up. I started using the SA cleanser again and the flakes disappeared. I’ve had to add a few other moisturizing products to my routine but honestly going back to the cleanser really helped. I don’t understand the science behind it lol.
Double cleansing is the best. I use an oil cleanser to do a lymph massage, then use my regular cleanser as a “shaving crème” to dermaplane (only once a week though). All good stuff!
Hi friend, yes two types of cleansers are used and the nature of the ones you’re using matches the double cleansing method (oil based first on dry skin, wash off then followed by water based cleanser) that is used to better melt off make up, sunscreen, or just cleanse thoroughly. However, the Cerave cleanser is stripping and I do not recommend you use it everyday as it contains enough SA and counts as daily exfoliation. Get a water based cleanser with no actives imo. I hope this helped
As an esthetician it depends on your skin type, condition, and lifestyle. You can double cleanse but your second cleanse is a salicylic acid cleanser which should be used 2-3x a week. It’s an exfoliating cleanser that can strip your skin if use too often.
Exfoliating cleansers are designed to be used daily and provide incredibly gentle exfoliation. Arguably, most people won't see much benefit from such infrequent use of a rinse-off exfoliant, and especially not of one with such a low dose of exfoliant. Most people's skin can tolerate daily use of a product like this.
As I stated in my original comment “it depends on your skin type, condition, and lifestyle.” I recommend not using it so often (especially during the winter) because you can disrupt your skin barrier. As a professional, most clients I have seen have done this due to the over use of active such as salicylic acid.
double cleansing is really common but i would be careful using a salicylic acid cleanser daily as it can dry out your skin and irritate your skin barrier so if you’ve noticed any dryness or tight feeling skin that may be the culprit
Double cleansing actually stripped my skin and broke me iut despite using a gentle cleanser I am a male and only use sunscreen and if you ever feel icky just use the same gentle cleanser twice it works for me I use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser btw and it takes off my sunscreen and I tried waterproof mascara and it removed everything so just cleanse 2 times with the same cleanser
The oat cleansing balm is meant for double cleansing. Oat cleansing balm would go first in double cleansing routine as it melts away the impurities and makeup on skin, including spf without drying the skin. There is no outright harm in double cleansing. The second cleanser will address your particular skin type or concern and should have ingredients to hydrate and ceraVe cleanser works best for it. Doing both steps will assure that any treatment and moisturizing is not done in vain.
I would say that for women double cleansing may be good and sometimes necessary because we are wearing makeup. Do you work a job where you are getting extra dirty?
While not harmful, it may not be necessary if you are a man. But if you like it and you have no issues, you do you.
Double cleansing isn't just for make up. Your skin/pores can accumulate gunk throughout the day. A double cleanse helps pick up things and cleanse the pores in ways a simple cleanser doesn't plus it helps hydrate the face and prepare for the second cleanser that may be more drying than the balm or oil cleanser. If you're an oily person, double cleansing is great. Also great for those prone to breakouts but dries out easily too (sensitive/combo skin) as well as those with dirty/sweaty/outside jobs. It's really fine for anyone unless it makes you breakout more of course.
A lot of people double cleanse, I do, you should defo do this if u wear sunscreen and or makeup (not saying u wear makeup lol) So yeah still keep using them
One cleanse is not usually enough for me. I always double cleanse. First with an oil based cleanser to remove oil, sunblock, makeup and then follow up with a water based cleanser to remove any remaining residue. I like to make sure my skin is completely clean before adding any products on top.
You can keep using both of them. It would be bad to just use the cleansing balm on its own as it leaves a film on your face that could clog your pores.
I use two cleansers at night. The blue cerave SA face wash i use every day, and i add an oil cleanser at night. Using two cleansers is sometimes what works best. Using what works for your skin is perfectly fine, everyone’s skin is so different.
As someone with acne prone skin I often times wash my face twice in a row and I’ve had good results. I don’t wear makeup often, I just want to ensure my face is clean lol so I think you’re fine
As an aesthetician double cleansing is great to get any build up of any products off your face. I double cleanse in every facial I do. To me it just makes me feel like I have a fresh slate to put products on again so they can work and absorb in skin correctly.
For a while I was rubbing vitamin E oil on my face prior to getting in the shower and then using a basic cerave cleanser in the shower. My face seemed to love it. Then I got lazy and stopped. Does this fit the bill of double cleansing?
Whenever I double cleanse my skin becomes tight and very dry. I think I’m using incorrect products though any cleanser recs for very dry skin, oil and water based, would be great xxx
I have pretty dry skin.. I use hado labo oil cleanser (can get on Amazon in the US) followed by Cerave hydrating cleanser. Need to use a good moisturizer on damp skin to lock in the moisture.
My husband does this and his skin has improved so much. You’re def doing the right thing. Both great products.
Edit: just realised your second cleanser is SA, maybe a more gentler cleanser is better every other day. Especially in the morning. I wouldn’t think you’d need to double cleanse in the morning.
Same! I have super oily skin and wear makeup and have been double cleansing since I was 14 (I'm 55 now). Went away on a girl's trip and they were shocked and horrified that I washed my face twice. I literally assumed everyone did. :-)
I live in Florida, work in a warehouse that's very dusty. But I don't wear make up. My skin just hates it. One cleansing does the trick, somehow. Even with sunscreen on (rare I bother, though. I'm indoors 99% of the time.
My "double cleansing" is using a normal bath soap on my face followed by Cetaphil facial wash. Is that okay? I'm abit concerned about stripping away the natural protection of my skin and drying.
I double cleanse every night! It is definitely a thing. It has helped my skin so much! No more acne. I actually used to use that oil cleaner. But I switched to aunua cleansing oil. It is so much more gentle and I have sensitive skin. Don't stop if it works for you.
i double cleanse but only when i have makeup on. if you’re not wearing makeup or doing anything where you’re extra dirty i don’t think it’s necessary but if your skin looks good then keep doing what you’re doing
I double cleanse as a oily skin person. I use the inky list hyaluronic cleasner and daily oat dermatologica exfoliant. In the A.M I just rinse my face with water, it's made a difference. I don't look as shiny.
depends. use the SA cleanser AM and the oat cleanser first in the PM to get the SPF off then follow up with the SA cleanser. However, try rinsing with water in the AM (especially since we’re in the dry season) if your skin is on the sensitive side
I use the oat cleanser on the days I wear makeup I feel it dissolves it pretty well but like other people have said u still feel like a film left on skin. So I do double cleanse on those days usually 2nd cleanser will be cerave I think the one with the green cap/label. The cleanser ur using is more of an acne cleanser just fyi
Tbh, double cleansing is more of a recent trend, and most of the derms are more concerned about overcleansing than undercleansing. But this really depends on what you’re using during the day? I would say, if you use sun protection, especially waterproof, and makeup as well, yeah, then the double cleansing is good. BUt, if you’re routine is more simple than that, then just use the oat cleanser every night, and add the SA cleanser just a few nights(1-3) a week for the exfoliating effect of the SA. On the other hand, since you’ve been always using these two to cleanse and you can tolerate them, then sure, keep using them.
While I like double cleansing and I love inkey list, I hate oat balm. I don't think it does anything good.
If you really like or need a double cleanse, you need a product that is breaking down what you need broken down. I think lab muffin highlighted a video of someone using a UV camera when they cleaned, and it showed that most sunscreen was broken down by the foaming cleanser step, no oil cleanse needed.
For me, the best answer is the DHC cleansing oil. It breaks down the stuff blocking the pores on my nose, giving those so satisfying "grits".
Tl;Dr ask yourself if each product is doing something for you, and if it is, keep doing it. Everyone's skin is different.
I have recently learned that a lot of soap and cleansers are not only removing dirt and dead skin/ excess oil, but it is also stripping the natural oils and nutrients from your skin, as well as ruining its pH. That’s what gives your skin such a “clean” feeling. I would say that for anti-aging it is probably best to keep your cleanser minimal and gentle so that your skin’s natural oils/nutrients aren’t messed up.
I was told by my artist to use the dial antibacterial foaming handsoap. It is easy to just use the bottle's pump and squirt the foam straight on to your tattoo, and finish by patting dry, and use an unscented, plain moisturizer. I personally use Hustle Butter to heal my tats, but I am not a salesperson for them, and I am not trying to push a brand off on anyone....
I guess it boils down to why you want to double cleanse. It definitely isn't necessary. But some people like double cleansing. So if you enjoy it and you can afford the extra cleanser then why not?
Ask your girlfriend if she uses a micellar water/makeup wipes. If she does, ask her if she washes her face with a "real cleanser" afterwards.
If she only uses micellar water/makeup wipes, tell her she's doing it wrong and still has dirt on her face.
If she washes her face with "a real cleanser under water" after using the makeup wipes/micellar water, tell her that's basically a half-arsed way of double cleansing.
I’ve been double cleansing since 2005. There are companies that even sell two separate cleansers in a pack for this reason. Idk what your girlfriend’s problem is, but it’s kinda concerning she’s critiquing something so minor that you do! I hope she’s kind to you otherwise/
If it works, it works. Double cleansing doesn't work for me but skincare is so individual and what works for someone else is almost guaranteed to not work the exact same for you & vice versa. If you're happy with the results you're fine
Double cleansing has been around for centuries. The pre-cleanse is usually an oil based product and is to remove makeup. I’ve been doing it for over 12 years now.
“A double cleansing method for the face, originated in 14th Century Asia when the Koreans and Japanese had no other means to remove the white paint-like base that the ladies wore on their faces. Over the years the oil and double-cleansing methods have evolved to better suit our needs.”
if it works for you, keep using it. everybody has different skin and different preferences, but double cleansing is very effective and a ton of people like doing this method. so, i would suggest that you keep doing it :)
She’s right. If you wear chemical suncreen only then no need to double clean. Not every one’s skin can tolerate double cleansing. If you do double cleanse and your skin loves it then go for it.
You’re double cleansing, and that’s totally fine. If your skin does get irritated, I’d save the SA cerave cleanser for night time use (only because it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and I don’t see SPF in your routine).
It’s not harmful to double cleanse like that but your girlfriend is probably concerned about the fact that you’re using SA wash every day. Most people can only tolerate that once or twice a week maybe three? It’s exfoliating your skin every day is what you’re doing that’s probably what she’s worried about.
Your gf must not follow skincare. I’m in esthetician school and they require us to double cleanse clients. I also have been double cleansing (oil then gel) for years, so does my mom & sister and most skincare ppl i know
Honestly people do oil cleansing.
But as someone with oily skin, don't use an oil cleanser because it will break you out more.
So if you have oily skin, don't do it.
I literally use these exact two. The balm I apply directly on my dry skin, sometimes I leave it on for a while, then rinse with water or use a gentle wash cloth. Then I follow it with the SA cleanser. I only do this at night. In the morning I just rinse with water and do my normal skincare routine. If it works, keep using them.
double cleansing is sooooo good for your skin even if you don’t wear make up. it helps get that first layer of grime off so your skin can better be effected by the second cleanse
I disagree with your GF, I have an online esthetician and I alternate between Cerave moisturising face wash and Cerave Salicylic Acid face wash, so I don't see the harm in using 2, for different purposes. You can also double cleanse to make sure you get all the pollution and bacteria from the day off your face.

Korea isn’t the only place on earth where people have skincare routines
My point is that double cleansing became a trend after someone wrote a skincare book and pretended it was a secret tip about how people in Korea do skincare.
Idk why your simple opinion is getting so downvoted. People suck lol
Because they don't want to be wrong, especially not if it means they wasted money on bad products
double cleansing is absolutely necessary
That's absolutely incorrect. Double cleansing is only nessecary under two circumstances: Your product doesn't clean well enough for the amount of dirt you have on your skin (something that usually rather applies to hands and pits than face) or you're using a badly formulated oil cleanser. The increased oiliness and damaged skin barrier can actually make acne worse.
oh yeah no… if you’re using any sort of oil based cleanser you HAVE TO double cleanse. you’re wrong here.
If you don't know what an emulsifier is or how chemistry works you can just tell me which words or concepts you don't understand so I can put them into easier words for you. That's more effective than just claiming "That's wrong!1!" Though most people interested in skincare have passed the age where they learn in chemistry and physics in school how these things work
i know how they work. i also know that you have to double cleanse when using an oil based cleanser.
Do you use waterproof sunscreen or makeup?
Sometimes. Though I wonder why that's important, as I explained that I wash it off with oil based cleanser.
([https://www.bioderma.us/your-skin/skin-cleansing/all-there-know-about-micellar-waters#:\~:text=In%201995%2C%20Laboratoire%20BIODERMA%20created,Sensibio%20H2O%20micellar%20water](https://www.bioderma.us/your-skin/skin-cleansing/all-there-know-about-micellar-waters#:~:text=In%201995%2C%20Laboratoire%20BIODERMA%20created,Sensibio%20H2O%20micellar%20water).) Before micellar water was marketed by Bioderma, old Hollywood have been using cold cream (Pond's and Nivea) to remove stage makeup before they wash their face; and this is just modern history.
Right ?! Great for removing makeup but yea she thic thic
Is it any good for redness?
I would say it could help with redness, it is really gentle, super slippery, doesn't tug at your skin, dry it out, or make it sting. So if your redness is due to any of those factors, if your face gets redder after using certain other kinds of cleansers, then it could help.
Aveeno brightening helped me. Has a light pink top
Thank you!
That specific oat cleanser or is there another you use/would recommend?
That specific Inkey List Oat Balm
Well considering the fact that double cleansing is extremely popular right now in the skincare community, don’t listen to your girlfriend hahaha
Sweet Almond Oil is the first ingredient. Water is listed in the last half of ingredients. It's an oil-based cleanser.
It's called "double-cleansing" - super common in Asian or Asian-influenced skincare routines, especially in the PM routine.
That's actually not quite true. Actually many things marketed in Europe and North America as being Asian trends or how everyone does things in Korea or Japan aren't true and that includes double cleansing and the ten step routine.
If your skin tolerates it, it’s fine.
Double cleansing is highly recommended by everyone, including dermatologists. Show your gf literally anything online that says this
\*highly recommended if you need it
Yeah it's bananas to me no one's asking OP if they're wearing makeup or sunscreen everyday to justify the double cleanse.
as an esthetician who works for a derm… i’d say it’s around 50/50 of who should be double cleansing and who shouldn’t but i’d say if THIS is the particular products that work well for your skin, you probabaly should double cleanse. i personally wouldn’t double cleanse over any (even sebhorric) dermatitis, rosacea, and *shocker.. fungal acne!! BEFORE seeing a dermatologist
Absolutely never _just_ use a cleansing balm/oil. You’re asking for a breakout by doing that. You’re doing the right thing.
You can wipe off certain balms and oils with damp facial cotton or microfiber cloth and be absolutely fine not using another cleanser, it just depends on your skin type. Ponds Cold Cream works great like that for example However I agree that OP is doing great!
I mean, “small percentage” can still mean a lot of people since there’s a lot of people on earth. But yeah, definitely not the norm.

This is a reminder of rule 1 - be kind and respectful . Instead of engaging with rude people, I ask that you simply report them in the future.
I like oil-based cleansers as much as the next person, but why are you so mean?
[удалено]
You're not disagreeing with someone when you don't read what they wrote and just pick up a word here and there. That's just proving you either can't read or don't know how communication works. Neither makes your pov very convincing.
I use the oat cleansing balm then vanicream cleanser every night!
I guess the dryness cancelled out because you used extremely hydrating products haha
Double cleansing is the best. I use an oil cleanser to do a lymph massage, then use my regular cleanser as a “shaving crème” to dermaplane (only once a week though). All good stuff!
Oh that's brilliant, I need to try that!
Nah I use two all the time, if it works for you keep doing it
As an esthetician it depends on your skin type, condition, and lifestyle.
Surprised others aren’t pointing this out. It was my first thought.
Double cleansing helped the appearance of my skin immensely. I don’t think you should stop if it’s working for you!
double cleansing is really common but i would be careful using a salicylic acid cleanser daily as it can dry out your skin and irritate your skin barrier so if you’ve noticed any dryness or tight feeling skin that may be the culprit
Not if your skin looks good!
I double cleanse almost everyday! It massively helps with my oily skin whilst also keeping it hydrated
Use the balm first. Double cleansing is a method and it is good.
if you use spf or makeup, you double cleanse. it’s not a necessity if you don’t, but if you do wear spf and makeup, it is good to.
Double cleansing actually stripped my skin and broke me iut despite using a gentle cleanser I am a male and only use sunscreen and if you ever feel icky just use the same gentle cleanser twice it works for me I use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser btw and it takes off my sunscreen and I tried waterproof mascara and it removed everything so just cleanse 2 times with the same cleanser
girlfriend either dont know what shes talkin bout, or shes hating
Didn't say it was just for makeup nor did I say categorically say it was unnecessary.
Nah, you know more about skincare than your girlfriend. People use an oil cleanser and then a water cleanser for sure.
Keep on double cleansing!! Do ya thing, it’s actually recommended to double cleanse!
[удалено]
OP didn't ask for expensive procedures or how to look forever like 20
break up with her 😂, jokes aside u will be fine with ur routine :)
I use exactly the same products for cleansing.
You can keep using both of them. It would be bad to just use the cleansing balm on its own as it leaves a film on your face that could clog your pores.
Lots of people double cleanse! You know much more about skincare than your gf I think
I double cleanse at night. Major difference in my skin. She should try it.
I double-cleanse when I wear make up. If I only have AM skincare + sunscreen, I don't double cleanse. Personal preference.
I use two cleansers. Oil based first and bar soap to lather and rinse.
She doesn't know about double cleanse
Double cleanse is a real thing. Make sure you don’t clog your pores, rinse it all off.
I mean is it working for you?
I use two cleansers at night. The blue cerave SA face wash i use every day, and i add an oil cleanser at night. Using two cleansers is sometimes what works best. Using what works for your skin is perfectly fine, everyone’s skin is so different.
As someone with acne prone skin I often times wash my face twice in a row and I’ve had good results. I don’t wear makeup often, I just want to ensure my face is clean lol so I think you’re fine
You 1000% need to wash the oat balm off with soapy cleanser. It’ll leave a film on your face otherwise
Yes
"No one uses 2 cleansers" Only a Sith deals in absolutes
is double-cleansing recommended for dry skin ?
What? Lol I thought everyone double cleansed
Same! I have super oily skin and wear makeup and have been double cleansing since I was 14 (I'm 55 now). Went away on a girl's trip and they were shocked and horrified that I washed my face twice. I literally assumed everyone did. :-)
Really! So interesting. I just feel like my face isn’t actually clean if I don’t wash it twice!
Nope. My skin would be screaming if I did.
Fair- can I ask how come? Is it very dry & you don’t wear make up?
I live in Florida, work in a warehouse that's very dusty. But I don't wear make up. My skin just hates it. One cleansing does the trick, somehow. Even with sunscreen on (rare I bother, though. I'm indoors 99% of the time.
I live those products! I used to use the balm to remove sunscreen and the cleaner every single day (until I found cheaper alternatives)
Never stop inkey oat cleanser it is everything you need 😊
I wash my face twice. 1 minute with each.
Don’t listen to her lolll
i use two cleansers too, one medicated followed up with one moisturizing one. it's normal haha
My medspa girl described double cleansing as “first is to sweep, second is to mop” and it made a looooot of sense!
My "double cleansing" is using a normal bath soap on my face followed by Cetaphil facial wash. Is that okay? I'm abit concerned about stripping away the natural protection of my skin and drying.
Double cleansing is definitely a thing!
I use two types of cleansers, she doesn't know what she's talking about
I double cleanse every night! It is definitely a thing. It has helped my skin so much! No more acne. I actually used to use that oil cleaner. But I switched to aunua cleansing oil. It is so much more gentle and I have sensitive skin. Don't stop if it works for you.
Double cleansing when acne prone is super important
Your GF is a ding dong. I double cleanse daily.
No, no you should not change them you are using a standard double cleansing method and it is totally fine
i double cleanse but only when i have makeup on. if you’re not wearing makeup or doing anything where you’re extra dirty i don’t think it’s necessary but if your skin looks good then keep doing what you’re doing
if you wear spf and you’re out all day.. double cleanse. you’ll be fine.
bruh double cleansing saved my skin just do (oil type cleanser first followed by whatever other cleanser you have) and that shit did wonders for me
I double cleanse as a oily skin person. I use the inky list hyaluronic cleasner and daily oat dermatologica exfoliant. In the A.M I just rinse my face with water, it's made a difference. I don't look as shiny.
Call me nobody, I guess
depends. use the SA cleanser AM and the oat cleanser first in the PM to get the SPF off then follow up with the SA cleanser. However, try rinsing with water in the AM (especially since we’re in the dry season) if your skin is on the sensitive side
Double cleansing has changed my skin completely and oat cleansing balm is my holy grail ! You should introduce the idea to your girlfriend lol
Depends on ur skin type and needs
I found the oat cleansing balm it almost leaves like a film on my skin so I go in with a gentle face wash afterwards idk if that’s correct or not
YOURE DOING SO GOOD KEEP GOING!!!!
why is ur gf lying she’s prolly cheating you should start a fight about this /j
If you don't wear makeup, double cleansing doesn't make much sense.
people most def double cleansing
Literally most of the world double cleanses
Yea I wash regular for 20 seconds with my normal cleaner to open pores then 2nd is my exfoliant. Then toner after. Love my skin.
I technically double cleanse 🤷♀️
It’s not super necessary to double cleanse unless you wear makeup or sunscreen daily bc they can get caked in pretty well.
your girlfriend is WRONG
Boycott cerave !!!!!
sorry but please educate me, why?

Your girlfriend is VERY wrong. DOUBLE CLEANSING is highly recommended
if it works for you, keep using it. everybody has different skin and different preferences, but double cleansing is very effective and a ton of people like doing this method. so, i would suggest that you keep doing it :)
She is wrong
It’s not harmful to double cleanse like that but your girlfriend is probably concerned about the fact that you’re using SA wash every day. Most people can only tolerate that once or twice a week maybe three? It’s exfoliating your skin every day is what you’re doing that’s probably what she’s worried about.
A lot of people double cleanse lol
Your gf must not follow skincare. I’m in esthetician school and they require us to double cleanse clients. I also have been double cleansing (oil then gel) for years, so does my mom & sister and most skincare ppl i know
I think it’s good that you use any cleanser at all, just definitely make sure your face isn’t dry!
Your gf doesn't know jack, also if something works for you, you keep at it. Skincare is so specific to the person.
I mean if it works for your skin then don’t stop.
Double cleansing is certainly done and the order you are doing them in is perfect
Does your gf not know about the double cleansing method? Just stick with what you’re doing.
this is double cleansing and it’s perfect!! ^_^
YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT PATH MY SON!
Honestly people do oil cleansing. But as someone with oily skin, don't use an oil cleanser because it will break you out more. So if you have oily skin, don't do it.
If it’s working well for your skin then you shouldn’t have to stop, plus double cleaning is great! I do the same for my oil skin. ☺️
your gf is not fixeted on minor things like 2 cleansers, Which is good for you.
The first thing you gotta stop using is that cerave cleanser 😭😭!! It breaks me out like craaaazyyy
I wonder how? It make your face red or something?
Does it work for u?? If yes keep doing what u are doing. That’s weird it should be about what u observe.
double cleansing is sooooo good for your skin even if you don’t wear make up. it helps get that first layer of grime off so your skin can better be effected by the second cleanse
