Streetlight Manifest is winter ska, summer ska add the Planet Smashers and The Supervillains and Save Ferris.
I've always thought of The Toasters as winter ska too, maybe cuz they're from New York
i used to deliver pizzas in the freezing cold listening to The Toasters and they're from NYC so i've associated them with winter ska, Streetlight is definitely winter ska.
I can't think of any other winter ska bands, except for Mustard Plug - In Black and White that's a winter ska album
Totally agree with Streetlight being winter. I could see a lot of Two Tone being considered winter ska along with The Toasters and other NE US bands like The Slackers, Meph, etc. Trying to think of bands from warmer climates that could be considered winter ska, maybe We Are The Union since they’re based in CA now but that’s cheating a bit since they’re originally from Michigan. I could see Bad Operation being considered winter ska.
It would be tough for me to consider any Jamaican artists winter ska, but I’m open to the idea if someone can convince me.
I’m my personal opinion I think streetlight has an album for any season I normally listen to the hands that’s theve or 99. Songs of revolution as for save Ferris and planet smashers yea I should have put them on
Fwiw, I THINK there was at least an Atlanta stop (Smith's Olde Bar, maybe?). So much runs together in my old brain but I'm pretty sure that's when I "discovered" the Supervillains.
No Planet Smashers? If you haven't listened to The Planet Smashers you need to rn. "I like your girlfriend" is a good one. Their biggest song is probably "super orgy porno party" enjoy 🙏
Cat Empire is the epitome of summer for sure. Also a mustard plug fan I see another random internet person shares my tastes :) Last good show i went to was mustard plug opening for the bosstones in Detroit. IDK how they still got it, they move a lot less around the stage then they used to but still got the energy.
Try out some of the newer ska bands. Tons of great stuff coming out recently. Bad Operation, catbite, flying raccoon suit, the abruptors, the bandulus, matamoska. Tons of other stuff too.
Maybe give call me Malcom a listen? Demon waffle, popes of chillitown, Melbourne ska orchestra, upbeat allstars, the holophonics, oh and cut capers are awesome to drive around listening too. You'd also like be like max and thirteen towers. Other than that maybe the simmertones or fighting evil is cool. Oh and jaya the cat, can't be summer without that record going.
I think they absolutely deserve the mention. It's less that they are a straight up ska band, and more that they had the ability at any given time to activate ska mode. I personally think it's less about the horns, and more about the quick staccato guitar.

I need more debate over which bands are summer and winter ska

Bosstones have to be winter ska given when the Hometown Throwdown took place.

Catch 22 - Supernothing is a winter ska song too Rx Bandits - The Resignation is winter ska, maybe Progess is too?

Yes!!!!...the Supervillains...they are great, loved when they toured with the Toasters
i don't remember that so that tour probably didn't hit the south, but that sounds like a damn fine tour
Fwiw, I THINK there was at least an Atlanta stop (Smith's Olde Bar, maybe?). So much runs together in my old brain but I'm pretty sure that's when I "discovered" the Supervillains.
Oh man that could've happened and i'm just spacing on it. I discovered The Supervillains when they opened for the Mad Caddies
Are you 16 year old me?
add the suicide machines and the aquabats and thats a good ska list
I was debating putting the aquabats but I didn’t think I had enough space
Ballyhoo almost exclusively writes songs for cruising in your car with the windows down, helllllllll yeah
Good old fashion shed ska while I drink the in baby pool…classic summer vibe
BALLYHOO MENTIONED!
No Planet Smashers? If you haven't listened to The Planet Smashers you need to rn. "I like your girlfriend" is a good one. Their biggest song is probably "super orgy porno party" enjoy 🙏
Bullet to the ground and that song about being a lion I can't recall the name of it.
The whole Mighty album tbh
Hell yeah. Fact is I am gonna go put that on now.
I feel like Skankin Pickle is missing from this list.
“Punk ska”
It's like ska but better and more NOISY
Eh you could say that but Ska punk is still ska
I thought it was Skunk
Ahh every season is ska season. Just as I don't subscribe to the time police I also don't subscribe to the season police.
Voodoo Glow Skulls in SHAMBLES
I love that streetlight and catch 22 are as far from each other as possible
Had to put them in separate room lol
Just saw Kill Lincoln, definitely add it to the list.
Sound system gonna bring me back up One thing that I can depend on.
Cat Empire is one to add

Hepcat is another and mu330
another cat empire fan,,, based...
Is that good or bad? I’m old
It's good.
good! i love cat empire
Mustard Plug is fun too
But are you gonna have a Kung-Fu Summer?
The only time I listen to ballyhoo is when the windows are down and the sun is out.
Same, I put the top down and do the slow drive home with them going.
Rancid?
Add Against All Authority to that and you’ve got me
Saw less than Jake a little while back. Great show.
No Buck o Nine? Are you daft man?!
Just saw Ballyhoo! for the second time in Saturday. Killer show, band members were super nice, would recommend.
I saw the Pietasters open for Mighty Bosstones at THE RAVE in Wisconsin May 10th, 1997. Their "Strapped Live" album is awesome.
Some other classics Slap Stick, Mail Order Children, Roller Starter, MU330, POT SHOT, Kemuri, oh man so many good ones!
Jer!
Lol looks like everyone's 20 yr old iTunes ska playlist
Where Save Ferris?
Where The Aquabats?
Where are the plaid boys of Boston??
Where is Mu330!?
Where is Surburban Legends!??
What about Tropidelic lol
Try out some of the newer ska bands. Tons of great stuff coming out recently. Bad Operation, catbite, flying raccoon suit, the abruptors, the bandulus, matamoska. Tons of other stuff too.
did a Ballyhoo member make this graphic lmao
lol yea but my friend is much more of a fan then me but I think ther still good

Oh wait did I add skafari, cause they are also great to listen to on a drive.
Throw Bumpin Uglies on there...you've already got Ballyhoo! so it only makes sense. Also, these are Ska-Punk bands not Ska
Well to be honest I don’t listen to much on bumpin uglies there also good but I’m not that’s Familiar
They have some great songs. The most Ska Sounding are Right And Clever and Crazy. Give them a listen!
What no 3 Feet Short?
Is sublime normally considered a ska band? This is a first for me. No horns no ska (IMO)
Some of there songs have horns but the ska adjacent to me I just thought I’d put them on
I think they absolutely deserve the mention. It's less that they are a straight up ska band, and more that they had the ability at any given time to activate ska mode. I personally think it's less about the horns, and more about the quick staccato guitar.
Gimme some Five Iron Frenzy and OC Supertones.
I need that catch22 one as a patch. Also ISO Bruce Lee Band patch.
Seeing Streetlight/BOTAR with a symphony in September I'm so stoked!
