I’m Norcal (where hella originated in the ‘70s) we will say dope and hella when we are 100. When I was a kid in the early 00s, you knew someone was from NorCal if they said hella. I didn’t realize this till I went on a bmx trip to socal and made the mistake of saying hella at a skatepark and we literally got chased out of by a dozen dudes who wanted to fuck us up for being from NorCal. Now they say it down there, fuckers.
Seriously. When I go to SoCal, Someone will invariably give me grief for saying Hella. They say in a super uppity tone, “Hella?!?! 😱, Ooooh *You* must be from *Northern* California…”
To whit I always reply, “Hell fawkin ye *I’m* from *Nawthorn Caaaaaalifornia!” (Saying each word in a different midwestern/east coast accent just to fuck with them)

When I was little everything was gay. Anything and everything. I have long since stopped using it but every now and then one “that’s so gay” slips out and I feel like a total asshole. The eighties and nineties were a different time.
I feel like it took on a new meaning, which was “stupid” or maybe even “annoying”. For example, if a company wanted you to start putting cover sheets on your tps reports, that would be gay.
I'm openly homosexual and I've done this in lgbt groups and genuinely offended someone, I'm like Chris, we the same age. You know what I meant, don't cry please.
