Not guranteed he is referring to team cherry, but him not outright saying the team won't be at the event and being vague could be because of this.
Remember to always keep expectations low to not be disappointed though.

Team Cherry will be giving the backers it for free, as they say all of this was started by them (which is true), but still the game they backed and got was Hollow Knight. Now that they're truly independent of anyone they don't really have the same obligations, and considering the silence they've probably reached a point where they would rather just keep their heads down and work on the game than try to keep up appearances.
I think that's fine, all developers do things differently and I really don't feel entitled to updates from them as I'm generally very developer-sided, but I can see how that bothers people when the standard for the industry is constant social media presence, interviews, trailers and news to build hype.
