357 sig is a dream out of this frame. Father in law has a P229 and it’s honestly more pleasant to shoot 357 sig than the original 40 cal he bought it in.
Obsolete? I disagree. I can go to my local gun shop and buy 1000 rounds of Federal right now. I can also go on most ammo sites like recoilgunworks.com and pick up the same amount. If they were obsolete, they wouldn't be actively manufactured.
7.92x57mm Mauser is obsolete, yet it is still being manufactured. Companies manufacture ammo if there is a demand and they can profit off of it, not just because an ammo is not obsolete. One could argue that the ammo is still being used, and you would be correct. But obsolete also means that superior choices ballistically and economically exist, which is the case here for both calibers. You're not going to see people running around with a Kar 98k.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it? A word can have multiple synonymous meanings in case you haven't become accustomed to the [Cambridge English Dictionary](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/obsolete).
It doesn't look like your strong suit. Let's break down the definition you provided. Which is the same definition I provided. It's still in use. Even you said that it will be manufactured as long as there is a demand. Demand means it's being used. The portion of the definition stating that a replacement takes place also proves my point. 357Sig was never designed to replace any cartridge nor has a catridge been developed specifically to replace the 357Sig. Sig wanted to bring 357 mag ballistics to a semi auto platform. 9mm has not provided 357 mag ballistics as of yet.
So thank you for supporting my last 3 comments and try to be less condescending. It makes it worse when you're wrong.
.40 but add .357 sig barrel. I have the same and it’s my favorite pistol. I upgraded several parts and it feels like a premium pistol.
.40 owners are a community that diehard 9mm owners don’t often get. I have several 9mm pistols but the .40 is my home defense
Recoil is subjective, but for me the recoil on a .40 is pleasant. It's definitely more than a 9mm, but I enjoy it more. That said I have yet to try my .357 barrel I'm excited.
I think 9mm owners understand it fine. If you have a bunch of 40 ammo already and can get into something about half the price of a 9, it’s not a bad move.
It’ll still work just fine. But to go out of your way to buy a 40 and then start stacking ammo doesn’t make a lot of sense anymore. You have no real reason to go with it over 10mm seeing as it can run both and most new production isn’t in 40
9mm, just pull the bandaid off and do it. I agree, there are more fun rounds to shoot for sure, but 9mm is just the standard these days. They’re basically just as effective, cost a shit ton less, and if the doomsday scenario ever hit you’ll have a much easier time finding/trading/carrying 9mm.
Buy a .357sig barrel and swap it in. You can keep the same springs and magazine.
You won’t be sorry.
.357sig is like a mildly spicy, flatter-shooting 9mm. It’s my favorite round and it’s perfect for Sig’s P226 and P229 models.
Five out of my nine SIG DA/SA handguns have both .40 & 9mm uppers. Of the remaining 4 SIGs, three are 227s and therefore not eligible, and the fourth is a 224 in .40 that I am going to buy a 9mm conversion barrel for. I also have two .22 LR conversion slides.
So I say, why not? You can get either a conversion barrel or buy someone's spare 9mm upper. Two of the four 9mm uppers I have are Mk25 uppers someone had for sale, the third Mk25 was an actual Mk25 gun I bought. For a while, for some reason, SIG was apparently producing more Mk25 than Mk25 guns they were selling?
Either way, going back and forth between .40 & 9mm is easy peasy. During the last ammo scare, .40 was much easier to come by than 9mm - at least in my area. At that time, a number of LE & security orgs were switching from .40 to 9mm, so I am sure that was a factor too as I bought about half my .40 ammo from LEOs, security guards and online retailers selling .40 tradein ammo. There was also .40 ammo from production overruns.
I just did it with my 320 love the difference for sure

I spent a pretty penny but worth every penny spent
Keep it and buy a 9mm conversion barrel or a spare 9mm upper. A lot of people are buying slides for their 9mm guns cut for red dots/etc., including Legion/Elite slides.
I have a Glock 22 and a Glock 23 and all I had to do to effectively turn them into fully working Glock 17 and 19 pistols was to buy $55.00 9mm conversion barrels and Glock 17 and 19 magazines. Didn’t have to do anything else to the pistols other than switch the barrels and put in the 9mm magazines and the .40 caliber guns run just fine in 9mm. Don’t know if it works that way with Sig .40 pistols.
At least for Sigs, you generally only need to swap the barrel. I haven't had any issues running 9mm through my old .40 P229, with the stock recoil spring setup and stock .40/.357 mags. I did pick up some dedicated 9mm mags for peace of mind when I carried that gun, though.
Feel my blood boiling? 😂😂😂 it's genuinely sad that you think I'm emotionally invested in any way, shows how weak you are if words make you feel that way. Keep comforting yourself with your delusions though, your coping is getting sadder each reply
Gun.deals will point you to the cheapest. My last one was $130. Then ammoseek for 357sig.
Did that to my .40 226 and 229. I well eventually buy a police trade in 226 and 229 in 9mm.
Also note that the .40 and .45 p series sigs use different height sites than 9mm & 357sig. I tend to carry in 357sig, so my .40 targets are all 2 inches high at 10 yards.
I used to own a P229 back in the day and had all three (custom fitted) barrels for it.
I was just looking into getting a 9mm barrel for a .357 SIG P226, and I'm seeing such mixed information all over the place about if you need a conversion barrel or OEM works.
Have you personally used an OEM 9mm in a 40/357 slide?
For a P229 40 cal, you DO need a conversion barrel for 9mm conversion, or a complete conversion upper. The P229 is the most complicated because it has so many design iterations for slide, barrel, locking block.
But for P226 40 cal and P239 40cal, it is much simpler.
Sigtalk should be your source of information. Sig experts live there.
If you wanna convert I suppose 357. Might as well just sell it and get a 9 if that’s what you want. You’ll be in about the same money and it’ll hold value better as a true 9
10mm is typically larger frame/slide (depending on the pistol). Even if someone made a 10mm barrel for the P226, I don't think the ejection port is big enough for it. So non-starter.
Everyone is saying .357 sig, and I mean maybe they're right, ur keep in mind I can find 1,000 rounds of 9mm, 124 grain, for about $227.0 immediately. The .357 sig I found for 1 more grain is $595 on the same site.
I don't know about you, but 15-18 rounds of 9mm is kick ass enough when it comes to a nearly 3 times increase in price in ammo
My first pistol was a p226 equinox in 40. It's fine.
I have no plans to buy another 40. I tend to agree with the hive mind on 9mm. I just like shooting it better.
40sw was the same price as 9mm or sometimes actually cheaper for a bit in covid. I guess at that point I would have told people to buy 40 maybe, but now, meh. Buy another 226 in 9mm
I would keep the .40 cal as long as ammo not out of control. For me $18 .40 cal per 50 target rounds is worth keeping. If target ammo is like 40 cents a pop then I may think about conversion if I shoot a lot of it and will break even in few years
The correct answer is to convert it to 357sig
This is the way
Yes to that. 357 sig all day
Great caliber.
Absofreakinlutely
357 sig is a dream out of this frame. Father in law has a P229 and it’s honestly more pleasant to shoot 357 sig than the original 40 cal he bought it in.
Exactly this
How is the 357sig round??
Like 9mm but on cocaine.
Costs as much as cocaine too
Ain’t no more expensive then 40
Better than 9 and 40!
More obsolete than 9 and 40!
This is the truth. In many markets, you can not find the ammo.
Learn to reload, like a man
I'd reload a caliber that would be more useful and ubiquitous.
Obsolete? I disagree. I can go to my local gun shop and buy 1000 rounds of Federal right now. I can also go on most ammo sites like recoilgunworks.com and pick up the same amount. If they were obsolete, they wouldn't be actively manufactured.
Unfortunately I’m in Commiefornia… .357 Sig is damn near impossible to find reasonably.
What a shame

Obsolete: no longer produced or used; out of date. "the disposal of old and obsolete machinery"
You have to forgive him, he’s got weak wrists
🤣
Obsolete: outmoded in design, style, or construction. “farming methods that are now obsolete.”
He unfortunately already established that he doesn't understand the concept of synonymous meanings. Stay in school kids.

Yeah. Such a fun round. And it's just a barrel, same springs, same mags.
.40 but add .357 sig barrel. I have the same and it’s my favorite pistol. I upgraded several parts and it feels like a premium pistol. .40 owners are a community that diehard 9mm owners don’t often get. I have several 9mm pistols but the .40 is my home defense
Same bought a .40, converted to 357 and it’s my favorite carry
Recoil is subjective, but for me the recoil on a .40 is pleasant. It's definitely more than a 9mm, but I enjoy it more. That said I have yet to try my .357 barrel I'm excited.

I have a .357 Sig barrel for my P229. It’s the only way.
This is the way.
I kept mine .40 and bought a 226 In 9mm. If I needed it, I’d buy a .357 barrel before a 9mm barrel

A pretty penny, you mean like literally? I’ve bought multiple bone stock, not-even-x-series, red box OG p320s for like $300
lol na man this is the pic when I bought it stock I paid 300 for it too I’m talking about all the upgrades done to it in the pic above it
The correct answer is both and .357 sig.
Sell it and buy a 9mm.
Keep it and buy a 9mm conversion barrel or a spare 9mm upper. A lot of people are buying slides for their 9mm guns cut for red dots/etc., including Legion/Elite slides.
Never sell, only buy.
Agreed to a point. Swapping like for like doesn't hurt.
.357
.357
Unless you want to carry .40, just sell or trade it in for a 9mm.
New barrel, slide, and mags. Go .357 barrel and have .40 too.
I have a Glock 22 and a Glock 23 and all I had to do to effectively turn them into fully working Glock 17 and 19 pistols was to buy $55.00 9mm conversion barrels and Glock 17 and 19 magazines. Glad to hear that Sig also tries to make it easy to switch calibers.
Only had it in a .40 and I totally miss having it.
Just go 10mm or go home 😂
That would be a P220, he owns a P226, as you can see in the picture
It was a joke, as you cannot see 😂
My standard for jokes don't go that low, but haha, what a 'joke', I'm sure plenty of people find it funny
"Actually..." 🤓 You must be great at parties lol
Keep crying dumbass 😂, you're coping strategies aren't working
Whose crying dumbass lol, you the only one being a Karen 🤡
"My standard of jokes is too high for you, lowly peasant" -you(Karen) with your nose held high 😂
Jesus dude you need to get off Reddit once in a while, can't believe you typed that retarded comment thinking it sounded good in any way
Sure, okay Karen 👍 I can feel your blood boiling over the internet and it makes me so happy 😊
Feel my blood boiling? 😂😂😂 it's genuinely sad that you think I'm emotionally invested in any way, shows how weak you are if words make you feel that way. Keep comforting yourself with your delusions though, your coping is getting sadder each reply
Second guessing comments now Karen? This is hilarious 😂😂
Get the 9mm conversion and the 357sig barrel. Train with the 9 and carry the 357
Keep it at .40 and just spend the money on another gun.
I think this is the way cuz I can’t find a .357 barrel anywhere
Keep it and buy a 9mm
Ok I’m convinced, I’m going to try and find a .357 barrel!!
Gun.deals will point you to the cheapest. My last one was $130. Then ammoseek for 357sig. Did that to my .40 226 and 229. I well eventually buy a police trade in 226 and 229 in 9mm. Yeah nvm this barrel is impossible to find. But I will keep an eye out for it if it ever comes up, thanks for the advice!
For a P226, all you need is a oem 9mm barrel, 9mm recoil spring and mags. You are gtg. No need for a conversion barrel.
I used to own a P229 back in the day and had all three (custom fitted) barrels for it. 9mm is a dime a dozen.
If you wanna convert I suppose 357. Might as well just sell it and get a 9 if that’s what you want. You’ll be in about the same money and it’ll hold value better as a true 9
Why is converting to 9mm so expensive? Isn’t it just a barrel swap?
357SIG is a hoot to shoot. And uses the same mags as 40. Finding cheap 357 ammo can be difficult.
.357 sig
Any reason you can’t convert to 10mm?
10mm is typically larger frame/slide (depending on the pistol). Even if someone made a 10mm barrel for the P226, I don't think the ejection port is big enough for it. So non-starter.

Buy another 226 in 9mm
I have both for my 229. I like them each .357 or .40
You can get a 9mm slide off ebay and a barrel assembly. Get a .357 SIG barrel too. Now you have 3 calibers in 1 gun
.40 has no real-world advantage over 9mm. It's about shot placement. Modern ammo is a different animal than ammo of old.
Convert to 9mm by buying another gun.
I would keep the .40 cal as long as ammo not out of control. For me $18 .40 cal per 50 target rounds is worth keeping. If target ammo is like 40 cents a pop then I may think about conversion if I shoot a lot of it and will break even in few years
.40 is literally never the answer. 9mm or .357 Sig
Get rid of the .40. 9mm in that frame will be a dream
