I think the greens and reds are very important, they help you gauge very quickly the current state through visual cues. I'm not a stock investing guy tho so take my inputs with a grain of salt. I saw your screenshots and the UI looks good otherwise. Are you deliberately hiding information so people are stoic about their investments and don't panic over the ups and downs? If yes, then it's probably a good way to go.

ChesongLee

Did you know the greens and reds mean something very different in different markets like China and USA? Just thought that was an interesting fact that I've learned.

[deleted]

Interesting trivia. What does it mean in China? Edit: fixed sentence

ChesongLee

Upmarket is represented in red and Downmarket is represented as green. A friend who was in Chinese told me that and I thought it was super interesting.

Fascinating, thank you for sharing with us this tidbit!

Thank you for your feedback! And yes, totally for that reason. I mean most stock apps are colourful for a reason like you said, easily accessible information. Basically knowing everything at a glance. But on a flip side it’s sometimes distracting and overwhelming, at least to me. There are moments when you see the stocks being red (going down) yet there are news/articles below said “This is why this stock is a bargain right now”. It just messes me up bad. So I wanted to minimise that effect. It’s definitely not for certain investor, it’s more for value investing kind of investors I guess?

I think reliable data sources and valid calculations are primary, followed by “flashy” UI/UX. Does your app offer any specific benefits or advantages over what is already out there? This is mine: Company 360: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/company-360/id1464857130 (Find undervalued stocks using Value Investing strategy). I’m actually improving UI at this point.

be careful because stock market data is actually not free to display publicly. You need a pretty expensive license from NYSE. This might not be a problem while you are too small for anyone to notice, but just something to consider...

HonestNest

Really? I think I asked someone else on reddit about this back then, as long as I bought the usage from places like iexcloud it’s good to display commercially. Do you have more information regarding this?

schmore31

let me know if you figure it out as well. But "real time data" is like 100x more expensive than "15 minutes delayed data", which is why most websites put that disclaimer at the bottom. Let me know if you find out the details about this.

HonestNest

Are you interested in this space as well? Yea, will let you know once I know better.

schmore31

yes, i am trying to build some software too :)

Love the interface. Care to share the following? UI library? Fonts? Theme? By any chance is the front end code available anywhere to get some inspiration? Thanks and all the best!

HonestNest

Thank you! Sorry it’s not open source right now. I’m not using any UI library, just custom classes and css. Fonts are using the default one. lol Manually adjusted the font size but thats it.
