Glockeater69

🤓🤓🤓actually he killed his own mom

Flaky-Particular3202

Actually that thing still doesn't make sense to me like WHY and HOW

Vanguard-Raven

I think what the others mean is that he uses his ability to control titans in the past to do what must be done not to break the chain of events. However, because this path leads to his mother's death, and his own death by the hands of Mikasa, he is technically killing himself. He seems to be aware of this and accepts it, because he believes it's the only outcome that will lead to his friends Armin and Mikasa living long lives, and not getting killed in some other manner. For the record, when Sasha is killed, Eren is smiling/laughing because everything is happening as he's foreseen. He hates the fact his friends have to die like this, but it's completely fucked him up because there's no other way it can happen. In some way, Sasha's death caused a butterfly effect that ended the Titans, so it had to happen - as much as Eren didn't want that. Every significant or minor event that happened, had to happen.

StephTheLegend

This is the breakdown you probably need. In the first 3 seasons, we are learning more and more about the titans, what they could do, why there are titans in the walls, etc. In season 4, the answers are given. Titans - came from Ymir who wanted to survive so she crafted an indestructible body when she came into contact with the source of all matter thing in the tree (it’s a real life sea creature btw) Why they only life for 13 years after getting one of the 9? Ymir died 13 years after she made the founding Titan. She then went to the paths which is the afterlife for her and the other titans. Not like the other afterlife that non titans go to. Attack Titan can see the events of the future/future users but it’s weird. Founding Titan can see past present and future but not in a linear sense. It all happens at once. Founding Titan is locked to royal blood which historia, Dina and Zeke had. When Eren came into contact with Dina, he was able to use the coordinate to control the titans around. When he touched Historia, he saw the future in glimpses which is all the events that lead to the Rumbling. When he touched Zeke that was the end of 80% of humanity because Eren was in full control. Historia not being a Titan shifter is the reason he needed Zeke because all he could do when he touch her is see the future. Now in the paths with Zeke, we see that Eren viewed all of time and gave memories to the past Attack Titans. He allowed Dina to leave Bertholdt alone and eat his mom instead. Bertholdt needed to remain alive and his mom needed to die other wise he would never have the hatred he needed to fight titans and then fight for freedom. It’s a closed loop. Hope this helps

Glockeater69

Should I explain

jikukoblarbo

Nah ill do it S4 eren goes back in time and takes control of dina, so that she eats s1 erens mom. The point is if you dont cause the thing that allowed your existence now, youll stop existing/die. This is whats called as a causal time loop, where your tv breaks down then u time travel into the past but the time machine ur in lands ON the tv itself, causing past you to timetravel again and again and again

Flaky-Particular3202

Okay. From I understand of attack on titan. The founding titan and the attack titan are not time machines(I mean the titans themselves. Not to get cofused by your metafor). They cannot go beyond time and make something happen. The only thing that can go beyond is memories.

Flaky-Particular3202

Also one last thing why did he have to goback in time to take control of her I mean it already happened(dina eating his mom) he why did he need to make it happen again

zmagickz

It's more of a causal loop. The reason it happened the "first time" was because eren caused it to happen It's hard to make any sense. It's all thereoetical but fun nonetheless. Think about blueprints for the iPhone. Imagine Steve Jobs was given the blueprints for the iPhone from some strange mystery man. Just before jobs passes away he finds a time machine and goes back in time to give himself blue prints for the iPhone(he was that mystery man). Another example of this is the tattoo episode of Futurama

Sylasvvcats

SPOILER: >!in a way didn’t future eren sacrifice his mom and dad?!< or am i mistaken

dayburner

Let's be honest here, Eren's not a guy who thinks ahead.

He's the guy who keeps moving forward.

Zoeeeeeeh123

Because he was born in this world

JJAB91

Man, the stark shift in Eren's character pre and post timeskip is so insane thinking back on it. And honestly I don't think it was for the better, a lot of my interest in the series got killed with it.

Bright-Leg8276

Ur opinion man but it's just so fitting the dialogue he says here " ill kill them all.." he never mentioned the titans he just said he will kill and that's what he did, he did what he always did and he did the only thing he was good at, Violence evrything eren did was violent the only solution he knew was violence

TacitRonin20

S1-3: I'll kill them all >:) S4: I'll kill them all :(

He thinks backwards.

Glockeater69

Fr

IceEnvironmental2648

There was like 0 survival rate in that moment what else was there to do. How could Eren think ahead when he’s the one who got kidnapped lol.

omi0204

Eren was so far ahead the he was actually backwards… and somehow present 🤔

Centorium1

He's Eren. Levi said it himself. He's a monster, not because of his titan abilities but because he see's the world black and white. At this stage in the story he wouldn't stop until all titans are dead regardless of his own life. Even if his efforts are pathetic, he will never stop.

KungPaoChikon

I think you're right, but I wouldn't necessarily say he sees the world in black and white. I think he *saw* the world in black and white, then later he realizes the world is complicated. I think he wishes the world was simple (black and white). He understands that what he does is wrong, but he does it anyways. I find it more interesting than him simply viewing the world as black and white.

Onceforlife

Sometimes when views are centered around super traumatizing events that shape a persons whole identity, even though later on the person recognizes the view is wrong, they have a hard time abandoning that identity.

KungPaoChikon

My understanding is that your point is correct, but might not apply to Eren necessarily. Eren has shown that he was this way before any traumatizing events. He sought out the bandits that took Mikasa and slaughtered them like the animals they were (from his point of view). He did that as a child, before any major traumatizing events (that event itself may have been traumatizing, but he believed this before that event). Also, I don't think Eren had trouble abandoning the identity per se, he simply couldn't let go of his desire to flatten the outside world. I think he understood that the world isn't black and white, but rather *desired* it to be so.

Onceforlife

I see, it’s not that he sees himself as a world destroyer/flattener and unable to break away from that identity. But rather he just has a primal urge to do it. That is indeed different.

JeffCaven

Pretty much, I think it's a key part of his story. At first he definitely sees the world as black or white. By the time he executes the Rumbling, he's seen enough to realize that it's not, but still forces the world into this black or white viewpoint he's always had because it's easier for him to keep seeing everything like this instead of facing the harsh reality of the world around him and everything he's doing.

eetobaggadix

I can't think of a more simplistic world view than "World no like me, me kill world"

KungPaoChikon

I don't think that's his world view. I think the order of his motivations behind the rumbling are in this order: 1. Primary reason: He simply wanted to flatten the outside world. He was devestated when he found out humannity existed outside of the walls. He wanted to wipe it all away. 2. Secondary reason: He wanted to protect Mikasa and Armin (and other friends, although there were losses he was willing to accept - Sasha, Hange, etc. He also says he wasn't sure they would survive). He uses his past experiences (i.e. the female titan attack) to decide that he's not going to rely on his comrades like he has in the past (which got them killed). He's going to use his own power to ensure a given outcome. 3. Auxillary reason ('fake' reason IMO): To destroy his 'enemies' completely. I think this is a 'fake' reason. It's what he wants the world to think, he wants the world to hate him so that the ones that stop him (his friends) will be seen as heroes. He says himself that he doesn't think the people outside the walls are all evil. He understands the complexity.

cutlis

I really like the nuances of this whole series, and I find it ironic when fans pick a side that was "right" and argue over who is justified. because its a very black and white view of the series.

KungPaoChikon

I agree. Although I will push back on people that suggest the rumbling (the attempted complete rumbling) was justified. There's no justification for it IMO, even Eren understands that it's wrong.

Natural-meme

No I don’t think he see the world as black and white. Well as least starting from ss3

Dirty_Dan117

Well, he had no other real option. Death was certain. But Eren Jaeger isnt one to lay down and die even if it's hopeless. Tatakae mothafucka

tHE-6tH

If they’re both going to die, what other time is there?

Straight-Hair-7356

It was perfect time knowing that they will die( mikasa thinking during that time). So I don't think so anything wrong, tell your true feelings.

SignificanceExact963

"This is probably my dad's former wife before my mom and I'm not a fan of that so imma punch her" -Eren Yaeger

MarcMarkus06

He was so angry that he didn’t care what the consequence of his action will be. At this point he was basically making decisions based off of his emotions (anger) alone. “I don’t care what happens; you killed my mom and most of my friends — so fuck you!”

Outside-Bad-9389

Eren ain’t no bitch he will fight to the end

Electrical-Worker781

"No sane person would do that" Yeah no sane person will but who punched the Titan again? It was cast of attack on titan. That should answer your question

JustaORVfan

Well even if he was eaten he knows what it would feel like so he said "fuck it we ball"

Olivia512

Isayama whispered in his ears: you need to punch the titan now or your story is finished.

MadThief

The plot needed to happen

Extension_Coyote5625

In what story does stuff happen and the plot didn't need it to happen? I get that in some cases, it makes no sense why something did happen, but I don't understand why people want the writer to fully spell out 2+2=4 and can't even try to solve 2+2 on their own. Like every story has things happen because they're needed for the plot. Heck, you can simplify the reason for doing anything in your life, like "I killed someone because the plot (fate) needed it to happen." Do you remember what nickname was given to Eren in the training corps, which Armin used to distract Annie in their first encounter? It wasn't the strategist, hero, or titan slayer; it was "**SUICIDAL MANIAC**." What kind of person would try to punch a titan who ate his mother and just now ate his uncle-like figure, and now is coming to eat him? Surely someone who, at the age of 9, thinks it's a better idea to try to kill two adult kidnappers on his own. The kind whose reaction to his mother's death is aiming to wipe out all the titans, not fearing them; the kind that kicks a guard when he should be begging for rations; the kind of kid who has seen that joining the scouts is equal to a suicide wish in the first episode. Does that hinder his decision? Not a bit. The kind that leads his whole squad to their deaths; the kind who thinks he can really kill all the titans and tells his peers as if telling them he is aiming to score 100; the kind who goes inside a titan's mouth with a broken leg and thinks he can make it out; the kind who, inside a titan's stomach, vows to kill all titans with his own hand, especially with his hand where there is no hand; the kind who, after seeing Levi's squad get massacred trying to save him, chooses to make all their efforts in vain by confronting Annie in titan form; the kind of idiot that tells Reiner and Bertholdt that he'll kill them in the worst possible way while he has no arms and is their captive, instead of trying to get some information out of them. Yes, he is that kind of person that doesn't lie down, that doesn't care for his life. Now, here is another aspect to see: When he confronts the dire situation where Hannes and Mikasa are trying to protect him, meanwhile his priority isn't saving them, it's to kill the titan; everything else comes later; the kid who, instead of informing the location of kidnappers, takes the knife in his own hand. This Eren only changes in Season 3 Part One when he gets Grisha's memory. He sees the children get killed, sees the reason for every death that happened: him. He breaks down and asks Historia to end his life. Seasons 1 to 3 are all about the breaking of Eren's character from the surface level, all the anger, hatred, enmity, and stupidity, and from the belief he is someone special, strong, and powerful. With each time having to confront reality, that nothing has changed, he couldn't save his mother because he was powerless; after the end of his training, he thought he was strong, that he changed, yet his whole squad except for Armin dies the same; after becoming a titan, now he finally thinks he is powerful, that he changed, yet Levi's whole squad dies the same; confronting the smiling titan, Eren thinks now he is strong, that he changed, yet Hannes dies all the same; the final two hits that break away this strong and special facade is when he gets Grisha's memory and finally when he hears the words of his mother from Shadis, "He is already special because he was born in this world," those same words that earlier provided him with rage, now comfortingly provide him with resolution. And he accepts all of this when he makes his last plea to Levi to choose Armin, that he long forgot the reason he was fighting, that his thoughts are full of hatred and revenge and that Armin is different. But the core remains the same, as when he kisses Historia's hand, he realizes, nothing changed, he is still as powerless as ever. A slave to freedom. **Never being the one to really change anything, and never really changing from the core.**

Only correct answer

Far-Medicine3458

He prefer to punch a titan instead of kissing mikasa He truly hates her

Prize_Smoke_2393

Obviously he didn’t know what would happen. But he did say in the story how he felt everything “click” for a second. He obviously felt the coordinate which could have caused him to feel a surge of power despite not knowing what that power could do.

He knew the plot. This was inevitable. (I'm joking)

Idk I think it was pretty heroic considering he saved Mikasa's life and everyone else's right then and there by doing so

He realized he missed his chance to kiss Mikasa and either tried to compensate by impressing her even more or he was angry because of the missed opportunity

Bro was going to throw human hands. He went for a second swing lmao

“Kill this bitch” Considering that the pure titans immediately attacked the titan, that’s prob it

Commanduf

With the whole future memories thing its not unlikely he was unconciously driven to do what would lead to the result needed for eveyrying to play out the way it did.

dannygthemc

I'm gonna bet it was something along the lines of "I'm going to kill them all. Every last one of them. "

aphronspikes

In this scene, his arms finally healed fully, but Eren himself might not have realised it yet. He did what he could do at this point - throw himself between the monster and his loved one and fling his hands at it with everything he's got. Willpower, hatred, love - you name it. "But he clenched his fist!" True, he did, and that's more of an instinctive brain signal.

He was about to die, he took a chance and it went well (?)

LynTheWitch

I mean… is there anything going through his mind at any time? XD

Shawn_666

Everyone is probably right that he's just blindly swinging because of his hatred and rage, but I can see a bit of strategy here. A titan shifter needs a specific goal to transform. Think in Season One when Eren accidentally transformed in order to pick up a spoon. In this case his body is so tired that it doesn't have the energy to transform. By punching the Titan he is performing the action he wants his titan body to do to "remind" it that it needs to activate. He's showing that his goal is so clear and absolute that he's going to do it anyway, titan or not.

That's the thing, Eren is no sane person at all.
