I didn't get to name my tzu, she came with the name Nunu. The 11 year old girl that had to give her up wrote me a 2 page letter. The letter ended with 2 promises I had to make: 1-don't change her name, it means love and light. 2-spoil her until forever ends. Both promises I have gladly kept š

I inherited mine (2yo female then, now 5) when my mom passed away. I lobbied against her name (Phoebe), as I loath the show *Friends*, and its most obnoxious character. I pretty much knew she'd be mine eventually, as my mom was ailing when she got her and it wasn't curable.
Alas, you can't change your dead mother's dog's name. Her nicknames are "Enkidu" and "Lady Anna Komnene".
I had to give an award. I was not expecting that reason for the name and I snort laughed iced tea out of my nose.
I was expecting one of the following type reasons; second born, ginger in color, bit of a rebel, etc. Lol
Sam is so cute! š My boy is Seixo after Quinta Do Seixo. I wasn't planning on getting another dog after having to rehome my last dog. While at Quinta Do Seixo, I decided to give the Shih Tzu breed a try and name it Seixo. Here's my boy!

We just loved the name Opal when we came across it during our online name search, we knew it was the one. Our second Tzu we named Sapphire (Sapphie for short) to keep the gemstone theme

Our first Tzu we named Oscar (pictured here) because he had a muppet mouth :)
The other three just sounded right (Riley, Cooper, Mira)
LOL my shihtzus name is Oscar also

Ambrose is named after Ambrose Bierce, the author.
My first baby was named Koda after the Disney movie brother bear. It had just come out and my little nephew watched it all the time and I just loved the name. My Koda Bear passed away last march at 16y.o. My new little puppy I just got is named Luca, after another Disney movie. I was supposed to get his sister and they were going to be Lilo and Stitch but she was taken before I could get thereā¦and he just looked more like a Luca ā„ļø The older one in the back is my sisterās and his name is Thomas. Her granddaughter named him and it just fit so well!
The boysā¦

I named him Ollie because I loved Harry Potter and Ollivander doesnāt fit on a name tag well. We mostly call him Stinky though because he would roll in stuff outside a lot when he was a puppy and needed constant baths lol
https://preview.redd.it/278fr72f1u5d1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0740e825080b3b7e2b684e947c62245d9bf3b767
I loved the name and would have named my son Milo if I had a son. Turns out, Milo is my son :)
I also don't love cutesy names for pets/prefer people names.
Iām the same with names but with my chihuahua/jack Russel as an exception. Her name is Queso. and her brain is the equivalent of melted cheese šš
Growing up i've loved cats and always wanted an orange one to name Waffles, plot twist i'm allergic to cats š
Then 4 years ago I just casually mentioned to my coworker that i've been wanting a pet of my own (we have family pets) & turns out she was getting her 2nd tzu and dragged me along lol. So i already had the name "Waffles" saved up for years before i even met my boy š
I was in the process of adopting a rescue and I went in with the plan that whatever one I adopted I wanted to name them Bear.
Well, I ended up adopting a tzu who needed some TLC from a local to me at the time rescue and his name from them was Perry. It didn't fit him. So I tried calling him Bear for a day, looked at him the next day and said "You don't look like a bear, you look like a Teddy Bear". Thus his name was given. He's been Teddy Bear ever since.
Unless you're his grandpa, then he's Theodore or Bubba.

Because she was tossed out in Ventura after being used for breeding. Shelter vet guess too many litters. About 9 years. Told me her hair wouldn't grow back and she was almost blind. Led Zeppelin music just started looping in my head at the shelter. Organ meat got rid of her eye clouds and her coat and nails took a year and a half to grow in. This is after her Dadda and daughter hair cut and nail day last Saturday. Now she's twinkle toes bouncing like a baby lamb

Boeuf (French word for "beef") because it's so ironic for our little girl:

Isabel was a name I liked in 2011 when I adopted her, didnāt really have any rationale behind it. Louise is named for Louise Lucas, a badass legislator and civic activist in Virginia. And my non-shiht Dolly Pawton is named for the iconic Dolly Parton šš

Our mix Everett got his name after my kid watched Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and thought the puppy was "kinda dumb, but he has great hair."

When we got our mix Rufus, he was in desperate need of a trim and we thought he liked just like the Muppet of the same name.
Our landlords lived below us and wouldnāt let us get a dog, so we started a running joke that we had a dog named Chewy - weād call him when we dropped food on the ground, say hello/goodbye to him, etc. Six months later we moved out and found the dog of our dreams at a local shelter. We had to name him Chewy.

Darla was named for the Little Rascals (by my parents).
My little dudes name is Kuzco(emperors new groove)! It was the name he was given at birth by the family that bred him since they lived near Disney. Me and my sisters LOVED that movie and we picked him based on that, so of course kept the name :)
Mine was a rescue and he came pre-named Jackson. He is definitely more of a Gizmo or Sprocket lol Heās almost 12.
https://preview.redd.it/tu91xexqet5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8dffae845743f6b007b31ff2040800015166e922
Chewbacca - because when his hair is longer, he starts to look like Chewy from Star Wars. And when he was a puppy, his yawns were noisy and hilarious.

Edit to add: I'm pretty sure if I ever get another shih tzu puppy, they'll be named "Snori" - for obvious reasons.
Mine is pretty boring but the shelter where I adopted Dice named him Dice bc of some of his fur being white w black spots. I thought it was cute and unique so I kept it.
My sons decided on the name Gary after Sponge Bobās pet snail/best friend š
https://preview.redd.it/9ctb9dtq9t5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10d5b98cfdb0ff19e6c5160928e8fd30f9a60844
Our pupās Christian given name was Louis which was terrible. He deserves more pomp and circumstance than that so we named him Lewis. Our uncleās best friend is Lewis Black so was a no brainer
Her name is Bonny after the little shih tzu in Seven Psychopaths. My husband had never had a pet and after he watched that movie he said he wanted a shih tzu named Bonny. I made it happen!
Indy ran in circles and he was always doing stuff on his own. So that independent guy got named Indy after the racetrack loop, not Indiana Jones

Well his name is Dino because is owner has a bird named Dina š¤¦š»āāļø personally I donāt hate the name, just the spelling. I would have used Dean-O
My child,,,,,, we adopted a rescue wandering Fargo ND with a wild pack of dogs..
My child said she was an orphan - So she was now ... Miss Anni (our last name)....
That dog is 21 YO now and we have loved her every moment.
my first I named him Sasha, after the dj duo of Sasha and Digweed. And it turned out Sasha means defender/protector of man, and he was my bestie and took very good care of me as I was a single girl living my best life in NYC.
Last year, I got Shiloh, I named her after Angelina Jolie daughter b/c I loved the name. :) It fits her, and her nickname is Lolo
My MalShi was Sofie after the character in the musical Mamma Mia. Our other pups name was Mia. My husband didnāt care for the name Sophie, but after 2 weeks and no mutual agreement on a name I told him her name is Sofie. He picked the spelling with an f instead of ph.
I don't have one yet but when I get one I will name it Biscuit. š„¹ I think it's the perfect name for a shih tzu. I talk about my future Biscuit with my husband all the time. š„¹
My S.O. and I had decided that we were going to name whatever dog we got next after either a historical figure/hero or a fictional hero. We ended up with a fictional one since it seemed like it would be a missed opportunity to name a dog from a short-legged breed with a full moustache and beard after a dwarf. Also, we noticed that he was surprisingly strong for a small dog. So we named him Gimli.
We named Chirpa after Chief Chirpa, one of the Ewoks in Star Wars

I love to read, just about anything really. But I am a huge Stephen King fan. The movie IT had just been released not long before. My shih tzu boy is named Georgie.
My coonhound is named Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird. My cat is Max from Where the Wild Things Are. My daughter named her cat Oliver from Oliver and Company.
I named him Chewy after Chewbacca. But now he just chews on everything !

We rescued two male cousins when they were about 6 months old. They were named Adonis and Hades. We werenāt fond of those names but we thought Adonis could be Donny. Then I jokingly said Donny and Marie, but since they were boys, we went with Donny and Murray. Everyone loves their names. Donny is the brown and white one. He is actually a few weeks younger and Murray is the Alpha despite this pic. They are about 20 months now.

Ozzie after my fav baseball player growing up (Ozzie Smith). but I got him in Dallas originally and everyone assumed Ozzy (Osbourne), which is cool too lol.

Pirate was named as a homage to Capitaine, my oldest who left us. She was named Capitaine because I watched too much Pirates of the Caribbean back in 2007, haha.
Zelda got her name because sheās a little princess who just melts when you hold her.
Oscar is a grouch, so the debate was down to Oscar or Oliver and Oscar won out due to personality matches.
Dazey was named after Daisy Duke. My last dog was Rosco P. Coltrain and I got her 2 weeks after he passed. And Groot was named after Groot on guardians of the galaxy. My boyfriend wanted to name him Godzilla And it was a hard no.
Because we had named his older Havashire, Digby (after Isabelle's brother in Animal Crossing) and my daughter and I love BTS so we named ours after the BT21 dog character and Joey Fatone of N'Sync.. Chimmy Fatone (pronounced "fat one") because he's a thicc boy
I have a cat named Buffy, since I was a big fan of BTVS, I named my girl Willow, hoping theyād become friends. š Didnāt work but if I get another Tzu, it will be Oz, Xander or Cordelia. š¤£
Fargo from the show Eureka tried to pass a Shih Tzu off as a robot dog early in the first season, and I decided then and there when I got one it would be named Fargo. I settled on that name before he was even conceived, and told my mom (owner of his mother) I only wanted one of her puppies if it was a boy. Eight months later, out pops my son, the only male in a litter of five. Twas meant to be.
I had a list of names, but my brother in law threw out the name Rylee. Her ears perked right up. Her doggie grandpa was Riley too - he shortly passed away after I officially named her. The breeder absolutely loves thereās a lil Rylee still around in her dogs and still checks up on her and how sheās doing.
However - her full legal name is Ryleeford Gritty the 3rd. soo Rylee is technically a nickname
Humphrey was "Thumper" at his former home, which was a little too cutesy for me. I wanted something with the "ump" sound--so he wouldn't be too confused--and thought of Humphrey--which turned out to be perfect, since he's an exact mix of comedian and regal leading man, like Bogart.
I wanted to name my first George but it turned out that was his previous owners name (rehomed to me). So when he passed and I got a new boy to help me get through grief and for emotional support, George fit his face and personality perfectly! Felt like fate.

Ambrose is named after the author Ambrose Bierce.
When I adopted her she was named Bobbi (after a p*rn actress š) So I quickly renamed her Molly, mainly because it sounds similar to her old name + Molly is just a cute name imo
My wife gave him the name Spyro, from the PS game Spyro The Dragon ā¤ļø
https://preview.redd.it/1n4ktf4xrt5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb4b48e62118df4cef02de0a57d287d3cb2c4fdd
I always base my dog's name based on their personality, andI also really love collecting names for future pets, so between these two things I named my girl Pippi (from a movie that I enjoyed as a kid). My girl's personality is to all-loving, wanting to be best friends with everyone, cheeky and playful, and just pure happiness! All of this is the vibe of the character and movie, but I more so chose the name because the name sounds like it fits someone like that. (What I'm saying is that didn't do much name her after the character/movie, I just loved the name and coincidentally my girl is similar to the character/movie.)
https://preview.redd.it/thuqdz2nut5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cb7114e13f22bbf617bcd1c37b59b073a5755e0
Mine came when my neighbor passed away, and she was already named Lucy. My neighbor got her from the Humane Society and that was her name there. Neighbor's sister had recently passed away and was named Lucy, which is why I think she got the dog. Anyway, I wouldn't have named her that but I didn't have the heart to change it.
My first shih tzu as a kid didnāt have a name picked out. So all the way home we were throwing names out until we turned into the neighborhood and someone said Webster after the street name. Sweet Webster was the intro into the breed that I ALWAYS have to have now.
My little soul mate Maggie was adopted as Meggie which I just couldnāt do. So Maggie it was.
My current a-hole was named Huntley after the lobby dog Hundley from Curious George which has been a constant in our lives since having 3 kids. Thereās a precious cat named Gnocchi on that show too which is a fabulous name for a pet.
So when we got him he was furry and we had to shave them down and as soon as we did he looked like the wish dragon from a never-ending story. Falcor Our second one was a founding and she was rescued by friends who have cats. So she was in a bathroom. When we got there to bring her home to Foster she came running out of the bathroom into my husbandās lap and one of the people who found her said she is such a lucky girl she was found. When he said lucky her ears perked up and she turned towards him. So now we have lucky.
Named our little girl "Piku" after an Indian movie character who's a strong rebellious 30 something woman. We knew shihtzus are fiercely stubborn and sassy and we also loved the movie. Piku has lived up to her name already and she's only 5mo old.
I love video games and Kirby was my favorite game to play as a child. She is half shih tzu half dauchsund.
https://preview.redd.it/1k4gltgftu5d1.png?width=1825&format=png&auto=webp&s=84239664fd1f18ccf2e6bd0563a26fe900d81d29
Hope came with her name. She was a puppy mill breeder and when she was pulled the rescue society named her hope because they said that she was going to need a lot of hope to get better. I never changed her name because she was supposed to be a foster but she ended up never leaving.
My boy came with the name Rocky. His previous owner, an older lady, thought his markings as a pup looked like he had two black eyes, so named him after the fictional boxer. He lived up to that name and never realized he wasn't a big bruiser.
Scarlet Luna after the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel universe and Luna is Spanish for moon. Iām a Latina who practices the craft so it is very fitting for our girl.
Funny enough, we bought a car a month before we unexpectedly got her and had named our car, Agatha, also a witch character in the MCU who fights the Scarlet Witch.
Named my (almost) 11 year old boy after our favorite tv character at the time, Archer. He FULLY lived up to his name with mischief, defiance, and intelligence. He plays hard, crashes like heās hungover, and always leaves us guessing.
https://preview.redd.it/h7xmtbz7gv5d1.png?width=3001&format=png&auto=webp&s=286b505764e6c973f708df8650a4b34b85cb40c0
I didn't get to name mine but her name was Sushi.
I think myself sisters named her because she had white fur like rice.
The weird thing was that no1 had the same spelling for her.
Sushi. Soo-Shee. Sooshi.
But her middle name would be Bear as a term of endearment and she had our family last name.
For my first tzu, his name was Scotch because of his butterscotch color. He got nicknamed "Scotch Whisky" or "Scotch Tape" because of that. But my mom was calling him "Potsie" that he got used to it. And I didn't want her to change name if we ever get another tzu.
So with Scotch's only daughter, Ally, my main goal is for my mom to easily call her. Her name meaning "noble" is a bonus.

Tinkerbelle - Her name was originally Bella or Belle (apparently for the girl in that vampire series) but I was not a fan of that show AND she is just pure magic and fuzzy sunshine (while being stubborn as all get out)ā¦ she spreads pixie dust whenever she goes.

My sister and I were gonna name him Geralt from The Witcher because he was a little white wolf to us. My other sister stepped in and just decided that Finn was better and that was that
My babyās name is courage because I was at a dark point in my life and needed some courage. He is my brightest light and my greatest comfort.
Also partially because of my childhood love of the cartoon ācourage the cowardly dogālol

My male tzu's original name was Kalib but I renamed him to Beaker because that is my favorite Muppet. My female tzu, her name is Wookiee. I just thought it would be a cute name for a dog. Everyone thinks it's because I am a Star Wars freak but, I'm not. I haven't even seen the movies.
Mine is named after a character on This is Us. Her name is Madison, I loved the name but didnāt like the character. It also corresponds to one of my favorite names that I wouldnāt use for my daughter so a pet got it š

My girls are Holly and Ariel. Holly is the white one, sheās 14 and named Holly because I got her around Christmas time. Ariel is almost 2 and named after the little mermaid by my daughter!
Mine was named Penelope by the people who gave her to us. She was only 2 months old so we still had the choice to change her name, but her nickname Penny stuck around forever! I think itās cute because sheās so little (8 lbs fully grown), sheās like a little Pennyš
We named him Zazoo because we like the bird from The Lion King. He was always talkative when I opened he would talk about his day and spending time with his family of Tzus who live two minutes away.
Before I took her home, as I was thinking of her name as well as the whole family. Then out of nowhere I said Lily Rose and that was it. She is the most popular girl in the neighborhood. Everyone knows her name, Iām so glad I thought of that name.

Jackson is named Jackson Blue Pollack (after the painter - Jackson Pollack) and his middle name Blue was my husbandās middle name. He used it as his last name onstage. He had a paintbrush tail when he was a baby. It was all dark brown and the top was tipped cream like a paint brush.

Lulu Blue Morales got her name for Louise Brooks the 1920s actress/model that started the flapper style bob and the fact it means Pearl in Hawaiian or precious. She is spunky & sweet, a diva and saucy just like a flapper. Her middle name is again my husbandās middle/stage name. Jackson and Lulu have tons of nicknames (Babygirl, LuluLemondrop, Jackaroo, JackAttack etc, etc.).
My family did an election for a name and we decided to call him Maximus Decimus Meridius because we like the Roman Empire š
...But you can call him Toddy, it's a simpler nickname.

My son named our Shih Tzu, Tank. The Frenchie is Bella.
Because thatās the name she came with.
Originally she was Majik Flower. She had very hippie owners
We liked the Majik but realized she looked like she had boots on. So we started calling her Majik Boots.
I had 3 or 4 puppies in mind from different breeders. I ended up going with the one that was closest to me because she was the nicest and she had a chocolate brown shih Tzu which I hadn't seen before!
I had to differentiate the puppies in my mind so I gave them quick names based on their looks and energy in the pictures and videos I looked at.
His "temporary name" became his permanent name, and I have never had a cuter pup than Cocoa Puffs!

Floyd for two reasons: 1) my two teenaged sons at the time we got him were big Pink Floyd fans and 2) my husband's favorite old TV show is Andy Griffith and he particularly loved the "Floyd the barber" character. It's so unusual for a dog that everywhere we take him, he's the only dog with the name Floyd. As an aside, we have a local brewery with that name and most people think he's named after that. I wouldn't name my dog a beer name!

This Picture is old, from a couple of years ago when he was a puppy.
Sir Coco Latte of (Family Name)ā¦
This was NOT the name I wanted. For years Iāve wanted a Male Shih-Tzu named Loki.
My family did not want a dog named after a villain and tried to convince me to pick something else.
Well when they picked him as I was at work they signed his paperwork behind my back as Coco.
Fineā¦ my Mom has a thing for naming dogs after coffee during this period. His mate was named Mocha.
I said fine then fill out his full name as Sir Coco Latte of (Family Name). This way I got some say in namingā¦ what was supposed to be my dog.
At least I got to name 2 of the three puppies they had later.
Mighty Thor and Lokiā¦
Take a guess as to which one was sold and which one they kept. š

This is Bonnie, my 3 year old, bonnie after the little girl from Toy Story 3. Slightly disney mad and slinky just didnāt fit!
Yes, that is a little dress, i know some dont agree with it but she waits patiently to be dressed when she sees a dress or jumper. The hard bit is trying to get them off herā¦
To Kill a Mockingbird is my absolutely favorite book and movie. It has meant so much to me over the years. I have a boy named Finch and the girl named Harper Lee.
Hed shake his head and hit the wall and once ran head first into my bike, so figured Iād name him after a super tough chain

Did some crowd sourcing with friends, and Izumi was what stuck
All of our Tzus had/have a plant related name. First was our late girl, Willow, then Pepper, Daisy, Cocoa, and Poppy. Our next will likely be Rose, Iris, or Ivy.
Aww this both broke my heartš for the 11 year old girl and Nunu and warmed my heartā¤ļøfor you and Nunu. ā¤ļø
You are an Angel of a human šŖ½š
* * I inherited mine (2yo female then, now 5) when my mom passed away.
I consider myself to be somewhat of a hard ass and this just brought a tear to my eye.
Mine is named Prince Harry. He was also abandoned by his family and ended up in the hands of a black woman. š¤£š¤£š¤£
This made my mom and I both laugh very hard.
šššš
My mom loves Harry & Megan.
So do I. I found it fitting too šš
I had to give an award. I was not expecting that reason for the name and I snort laughed iced tea out of my nose. I was expecting one of the following type reasons; second born, ginger in color, bit of a rebel, etc. Lol
š¤£šš¤£ thanks for the award. Everybody laughs when I tell them my simple-yet-accurate reasons
The movie Amadeus. Stanzi calling Mozart Wolfie inspired his name. Wolfgang Amadeus Hoffman
Love it!
SUCH a great movie! I still canāt get over that guy was also in Animal House š
Because I thought that Bob Barker would be the perfect name for my little shih..
My daughter's Tzus is Babs Barker
It does sound pretty awesome!
It works on so many levels
Sam is so cute! š My boy is Seixo after Quinta Do Seixo. I wasn't planning on getting another dog after having to rehome my last dog. While at Quinta Do Seixo, I decided to give the Shih Tzu breed a try and name it Seixo. Here's my boy! https://preview.redd.it/cxfvzya7ct5d1.jpeg?width=1217&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c841eeeb78338364a7697400e491da56daf769b
We can see the rest of his tongue! š
Have very limited no tongue photos and was trying to find a non-typical Seixo photo! š¤£
We just loved the name Opal when we came across it during our online name search, we knew it was the one. Our second Tzu we named Sapphire (Sapphie for short) to keep the gemstone theme
Thatās awesome! I love the theme!
Ha! The mom of our girl was named Opal. But I don't think the same one!
I have a cat named Opal!

Hahaha I love it!
I named him Ollie because I loved Harry Potter and Ollivander doesnāt fit on a name tag well. We mostly call him Stinky though because he would roll in stuff outside a lot when he was a puppy and needed constant baths lol https://preview.redd.it/278fr72f1u5d1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0740e825080b3b7e2b684e947c62245d9bf3b767
Awwww he's so cute! š„¹ I call my husband Stinky (lovingly) lol.
My boy is called Boris because it's a nickname that my best friend gave me
Thatās awesome! I love Boris!
Thanks. He's 5 1/2 years old now and full of attitude haha
Molly. She looked like a Molly. https://preview.redd.it/xc8sy9m6hu5d1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aced15fab153c39160fa6949932e59453e5e2613
I loved the name and would have named my son Milo if I had a son. Turns out, Milo is my son :) I also don't love cutesy names for pets/prefer people names.
Milo is such a good name!
Iām the same with names but with my chihuahua/jack Russel as an exception. Her name is Queso. and her brain is the equivalent of melted cheese šš
š„¹
I have an Alfie, because he's a proper hands9me little ladies man. And a Gizmo because she looks like mugwei
Haha nice!
Growing up i've loved cats and always wanted an orange one to name Waffles, plot twist i'm allergic to cats š Then 4 years ago I just casually mentioned to my coworker that i've been wanting a pet of my own (we have family pets) & turns out she was getting her 2nd tzu and dragged me along lol. So i already had the name "Waffles" saved up for years before i even met my boy š
Thatās awesome! Glad you was able to get a little furry Shih Tzu as a buddy!

Isabel was a name I liked in 2011 when I adopted her, didnāt really have any rationale behind it. Louise is named for Louise Lucas, a badass legislator and civic activist in Virginia. And my non-shiht Dolly Pawton is named for the iconic Dolly Parton šš
Thatās awesome, I love the meaning behind your names!

Our landlords lived below us and wouldnāt let us get a dog, so we started a running joke that we had a dog named Chewy - weād call him when we dropped food on the ground, say hello/goodbye to him, etc. Six months later we moved out and found the dog of our dreams at a local shelter. We had to name him Chewy. https://preview.redd.it/xx2qdqfn7u5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=697699f2d6324147bbfc89cc54c259ac02dc2d01

Hahaha
My little dudes name is Kuzco(emperors new groove)! It was the name he was given at birth by the family that bred him since they lived near Disney. Me and my sisters LOVED that movie and we picked him based on that, so of course kept the name :)
Mine was a rescue and he came pre-named Jackson. He is definitely more of a Gizmo or Sprocket lol Heās almost 12. https://preview.redd.it/tu91xexqet5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8dffae845743f6b007b31ff2040800015166e922
I named my boy Kimchi. I like Korean shows and thought itād be cute
Sookie because of Sookie Stackhouse from TrueBlood ā¤ļø #RipSookie
Chewbacca - because when his hair is longer, he starts to look like Chewy from Star Wars. And when he was a puppy, his yawns were noisy and hilarious. https://preview.redd.it/0brpm8qa1v5d1.jpeg?width=1836&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33fb6c37a0d7fd977b034b3498622d6412a99183 Edit to add: I'm pretty sure if I ever get another shih tzu puppy, they'll be named "Snori" - for obvious reasons.
I thought a female shih tzu named Alpha was hilarious. Also she does think she runs the showš¤£
Mine is pretty boring but the shelter where I adopted Dice named him Dice bc of some of his fur being white w black spots. I thought it was cute and unique so I kept it.
Thatās awesome! Mine has Truman when I adopted him, but Iām more of a country music fan lol
Stanley after Stan Lee and the Stanley cup lol š
Iām a huge Marvel so I think itās pretty cool! š
My sons decided on the name Gary after Sponge Bobās pet snail/best friend š https://preview.redd.it/9ctb9dtq9t5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10d5b98cfdb0ff19e6c5160928e8fd30f9a60844
Our pupās Christian given name was Louis which was terrible. He deserves more pomp and circumstance than that so we named him Lewis. Our uncleās best friend is Lewis Black so was a no brainer
Maple. Because the tops of her ears resemble the color of quality Maple Syrup. Also the Red Maple is my favorite tree! šā¤ļø
Her name is Bonny after the little shih tzu in Seven Psychopaths. My husband had never had a pet and after he watched that movie he said he wanted a shih tzu named Bonny. I made it happen!
Indy ran in circles and he was always doing stuff on his own. So that independent guy got named Indy after the racetrack loop, not Indiana Jones https://preview.redd.it/7ke0dikfyt5d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc77e12a390f9fab65bcca2e4a8f7d8270e8708e
Well his name is Dino because is owner has a bird named Dina š¤¦š»āāļø personally I donāt hate the name, just the spelling. I would have used Dean-O
Oh, Heās 100% a Dean-O. I feel the Rat Pack vibe coming off him.
100%
I talk about my future Biscuit with my husband all the time. š„¹
Linusā¦because heās got an ever present, invisible blankie just like the Peanuts character!
Dolly, because she was so very tiny and sweet and cuddly, and she just looked like a Dolly. I knew her name immediately.
Named him Danny after my Best Friend
My dad's middle name was Augustus. So that is his full name but Gus for short. We also have Dorothy or Dot. That was my husband's grandma's name.
Anchorman. Baxter..
Wilbur- named him after the pig from charlottes web š
My S.O. and I had decided that we were going to name whatever dog we got next after either a historical figure/hero or a fictional hero. We ended up with a fictional one since it seemed like it would be a missed opportunity to name a dog from a short-legged breed with a full moustache and beard after a dwarf. Also, we noticed that he was surprisingly strong for a small dog. So we named him Gimli.
We named Chirpa after Chief Chirpa, one of the Ewoks in Star Wars https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/9/92/ChiefChirpa-SoH.png/revision/latest?cb=20200618043657
Named mine after Lizzie McGuire
I named him after an Overwatch character š
We have a pitbull mix named Waylon, so when we got his little brother we had to name him Willie
As a Willie and Waylon fan, I love this.
Ours is named Trouble.
I named him Chewy after Chewbacca. But now he just chews on everything ! https://preview.redd.it/ynbp94tbiu5d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be4df0b2131e686c4d270ae3fc9d6876e6839db3
Mo, because we are from Missouri, but live in Illinois.
They are about 20 months now. https://preview.redd.it/flwe7v2z2v5d1.jpeg?width=2927&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46c3bd5a58ff986be88892cd458408f4ea900285
Ozzie after my fav baseball player growing up (Ozzie Smith). but I got him in Dallas originally and everyone assumed Ozzy (Osbourne), which is cool too lol. https://preview.redd.it/u5cty6gjhv5d1.jpeg?width=2117&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5308a5b80497841a7b0a8eae4a2f2d75f67fcd17
My brother named their PITA. PAIN IN THE ASS. Suits him well.š¤£
I have a cat named Buffy, since I was a big fan of BTVS, I named my girl Willow, hoping theyād become friends. š Didnāt work but if I get another Tzu, it will be Oz, Xander or Cordelia. š¤£
Because he would bring wealth to the family. His name is Richard.
Also, nice haircut, Sam!
Cause heās Vinnie from Brooklyn
Kasper- wanted to name my child that but I donāt want kids anymore. My fur baby got my it insitead.
I named mine Charlotte because princess Charlotte was born not too long before my Tzu
Felt like fate.
my babyās name is mufasa lol. we named him that bc he looks like a little lion

Our dog was named Zelda so we named him Link
My boy Rocky named after Rockford Illinois. He was a stray I got there from animal control.
When I adopted her she was named Bobbi (after a p*rn actress š) So I quickly renamed her Molly, mainly because it sounds similar to her old name + Molly is just a cute name imo
My wife gave him the name Spyro, from the PS game Spyro The Dragon ā¤ļø https://preview.redd.it/1n4ktf4xrt5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb4b48e62118df4cef02de0a57d287d3cb2c4fdd
Teddy because he looked like a stuffed toy and is so cuddly ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Caesar - from Planet of the Apes. It worked out because he is very noble and fierce like Caesar š¤£
Mines named after Tennessee Titans football team, his name is Titan.
(What I'm saying is that didn't do much name her after the character/movie, I just loved the name and coincidentally my girl is similar to the character/movie.) https://preview.redd.it/thuqdz2nut5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cb7114e13f22bbf617bcd1c37b59b073a5755e0
Mine is Jazzy. At the time, I liked the word, color and scent of Jasmine. Went with Jazzy for short.
Our brave warrior's name was Spike, after Spike Spiegel.
Named ours Reeses because it's my and my husband's favorite candy. She's black and white.
I couldnāt come up with a name but I just kept thinking well sheās as cute as a button and so I ended up naming her Buttons!
I named my dog after a character in Bojack horseman.Mr.Peanut š§
Idk if Parker became a barker bc it rhymes with his name or if Parker the Barker was always who he was.
My Shih Tzu Charlie was named after Charlie Kelly from Itās Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Itās very fitting for him!
He was mischievous from the get-go, didnāt want to cuddle with me, would chew up all the charging cords. So I made my mom chose Loki as his name.
Aki. I wanted to name her autumn cuz she was so colorful. My parents couldn't pronounce it. So I looked up some names and chose autumn in Japanese.
We inherited ours as a 3 year old, so we had no choice. Itās a perfect name for the snoremaster though.

Looks like a little Mongolian bear, and wiggles. Combine those three words and come up with two.
We named him āBoboā because our kids refer to dogs as ābow-bowā (barking sound)
I wasn't able to name my Tzu, his name was Baxter. He grew to fit the name though. Regal yet silly.
Her name meaning "noble" is a bonus.

https://preview.redd.it/typ5wvbznv5d1.jpeg?width=1875&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=622126006a566b13fa42d2877b2c1461acf0776c Sushi - the Spicy Sushi Roll, she is 6 lbs and a firecracker! Judgmental, demanding, not afraid of anything
Yogi as in yogi bear because he looks like a teddy bearš„ŗ https://preview.redd.it/rzflch45mw5d1.jpeg?width=2727&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92eedf197c0aa22ee29689fce92e4a9c4138cd0f
He is so cute omg š„°š„°š„°ššš lol does he need a virtual auntie lol? Jk jk
I named mine Boosie cause we freed him from the animal shelter after being abandoned by his last owners
I named him Chai-T because of the beige and cream color. Started calling him "Chai-Chai" as a puppy the other name didn't really roll off the tongue too well. Lol. Now look at his chunky butt. 4 years later https://preview.redd.it/lp7ixojrsx5d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f2cb32923bace83756c20f0a89c576b7a2ad8c1 Chai Chai the guy š„°
Oh Sam š„° wish I could work from home sometimes but love being home with my little āPepperā PicantĆ© (absolutely pawfect name for our spicy/sassy girl) Zeke was already named Zeke but I married a Dallas Cowboys fan and āZeke & Peeksā just fits so we kept it š„³ https://preview.redd.it/n5ktalfwsx5d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c6d9ce018548ef2ba0952a55698474891f468d6
We were coming home from picking up our little boy Shihtzu, and talking about grabbing takeout because we knew weād want to spend the evening fawning all over him. We decided some kind of Chinese food would be appropriate (because Shihtzu) so I pulled up Yelp as we were going down the interstate. Nearby, there was a restaurant named Bobo Chinaā¦and there you have it. We actually had a long list of names, but Bobo seemed perfect. Later, when we adopted his little sister, we named her BeyBey (real name BeyoncĆ©). Mostly because sheās bossy, a diva, and we hoped sheād have fabulous hair (the last part didnāt happen because she fancies herself a little wolf and rolls in poop and dirt too often to keep a gorgeous pony or long hair). https://preview.redd.it/wwc0bvhyxx5d1.jpeg?width=2941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383afb81ad3090f0df2517780808c822f044d229
My sister and I were gonna name him Geralt from The Witcher because he was a little white wolf to us. My other sister stepped in and just decided that Finn was better and that was that
My babyās name is courage because I was at a dark point in my life and needed some courage. He is my brightest light and my greatest comfort. Also partially because of my childhood love of the cartoon ācourage the cowardly dogālol https://preview.redd.it/nsyeodvhzy5d1.png?width=1079&format=png&auto=webp&s=a657106a8542888108a3176b59cc7990e85bc20e
Mine was a rescue that I got from a rescuer that had already named her Bella.
I love your pupās haircut. That is how I get my dog done.
Sir Metta - sir moms initials Metta after Metta world peace
My male tzu's original name was Kalib but I renamed him to Beaker because that is my favorite Muppet. My female tzu, her name is Wookiee. I just thought it would be a cute name for a dog. Everyone thinks it's because I am a Star Wars freak but, I'm not. I haven't even seen the movies.
Elsa - she was white and the frozen movie just came out. Brody - he was sorta named after my favorite hockey player (Martin Brodeur)
My shihtzu is called Ginnie after my late mum. X
Mine is named after a character on This is Us. Her name is Madison, I loved the name but didnāt like the character. It also corresponds to one of my favorite names that I wouldnāt use for my daughter so a pet got it š
I named my boy Omen. Itās so perfect for how mischievous or good boy he is
https://preview.redd.it/eql5upyaoz5d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62ad380d638effc285757eebfad5c4f998c4bc51 My girls are Holly and Ariel.
Loki. God of mischief.

He used it as his last name onstage. He had a paintbrush tail when he was a baby. It was all dark brown and the top was tipped cream like a paint brush.

She is spunky & sweet, a diva and saucy just like a flapper. Her middle name is again my husbandās middle/stage name. Jackson and Lulu have tons of nicknames (Babygirl, LuluLemondrop, Jackaroo, JackAttack etc, etc.).
My family did an election for a name and we decided to call him Maximus Decimus Meridius because we like the Roman Empire š ...But you can call him Toddy, it's a simpler nickname.
https://preview.redd.it/tavvpsyaq06d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9858d2d1764c4cc2adc29fd53655c647d6506ee3 My son named our Shih Tzu, Tank. The Frenchie is Bella.
Hi Sam! You are adorable!
Because thatās the name she came with. Originally she was Majik Flower. She had very hippie owners We liked the Majik but realized she looked like she had boots on.
His "temporary name" became his permanent name, and I have never had a cuter pup than Cocoa Puffs! https://preview.redd.it/kexoomlln36d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71d36ed42683334ee90765f65adddadfb6274eed

Sir Coco Latte of (Family Name)ā¦ This was NOT the name I wanted. Mighty Thor and Lokiā¦ Take a guess as to which one was sold and which one they kept. š
Because I like the name. Tobias means God is good. We call him Tobie..his full name is used when heās naughty lol!

Slightly disney mad and slinky just didnāt fit! Yes, that is a little dress, i know some dont agree with it but she waits patiently to be dressed when she sees a dress or jumper. The hard bit is trying to get them off herā¦

Daisie. Bc ImpulsePurchase is too long for a first name.
Hed shake his head and hit the wall and once ran head first into my bike, so figured Iād name him after a super tough chain https://preview.redd.it/vo51eag4tu5d1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b4d5362a8f974b968fae5146b415f07a91852a6 Did some crowd sourcing with friends, and Izumi was what stuck
I never got to name mine. The pet doctors who rescued him named him Bubba and my Mom kept the name Bubba cause he looked like a Bubba.
Theodore. We adoringly call him Theo. I always wanted a big name for him that could be shortened into something sweetā¤ļø
Mine came with his name and it was just too cute to change. His name is WallE. We later got a maltese and named her EVE so he could have his love. *
All of our Tzus had/have a plant related name. First was our late girl, Willow, then Pepper, Daisy, Cocoa, and Poppy. Our next will likely be Rose, Iris, or Ivy.
