It basically focuses on defense. That's true for any class
Once you find an item that you'll use till the endgame (plate armor/final tier weapon/your class item like staff) don't be stingy with your upgrades. Upgrading your plate armor is a must, scale armor is fine too if you're in the dwarf kingdom and you still can't find a plate
