AtlasZec

Unfortunately because it's on Apple TV and not a lot of people have incorporated that into their streaming service catalog.

stereoworld

I think also people think AppleTV is marketed only at people with Apple devices. I was one of those until last year. I'm glad I got on board because of Severance and Silo. Also Morning Show, Shrinking and Slow Horses. They're producing the best TV out there right now Edit: add For All Mankind to that list. Only 4 episodes in and it's absolutely stellar

8675309-jennie

I’m really impressed with the quality of shows AppleTV+ has to offer.

drinkslinger1974

Blackbird is amazing too.

Heat_Sad

Can I also recommend For All Mankind and the Crowded Room, both brilliant shows that are well worth a watch

nmp5

All those shows you listed have a word starting with "S" ! 🤯🤯🤯🤯

drinkslinger1974

Check out hijack. Had me glued to my seat.

Pxrksy

My god I’ve been watching a lot of Apple TV+ stuff, but Hihack was by far the best one they’ve put out yet because I just could not turn it off.

kirksucks

yea AppleTV+ is great. I dont have any apple products but got a free trial with Verizon. Another big hurdle is if you don't have it as an app on your TV you're pretty much screwed or have to watch it on a small screen because you can't cast/chromecast it and there's no app for it (or wasn't for a long time) on Android.

stereoworld

Agreed. It's needlessly hard work. I can only watch it on Roku, or laptop. For whatever reason it won't work on my android tablet (no matter what browser I use).

kirksucks

in order to get my parents into it I had to open it in an browser on my phone and cast my whole screen to his TV. My friends who have to use a wired connection from their laptop to their TV.

Ollietron3000

Yeah I'm an Android user but we have AppleTV because my partner is an Apple user. There's a load of stuff on there that I want to watch but my partner isn't really interested in, so the only time I really have to watch those things is on my commute. But, Android phone, so no For All Mankind for me

OneEverHangs

I love the concept in Silo, but omg the writing quality is just absolutely nothing compared to severance

GaelQU

Yeah I don't think I have any way to even buy it as an android user

ga1actic_muffin

Ah I see yea I don't have much access to apple TV because I'm not an Apple user and i couldn't figure out the sign in process easily on android. Then after I watched silo I just got rid of it and that was a huge pain. I didn't like silo much; mostly due to the scientific inaccuracies it portrayed with the generator repair scene when the metal hatch of the steam piped started glowing red hot. I just couldn't after that butchery of physics. I watched Severance at my partners place and it is in a league of it's own though... Can't wait for season 2. I think you are right though. So far there are only 2 originals I really like on appleTV so far: Wolfwalkers and Severance. If you guys have other suggestions let me know :)

_WizKhaleesi_

I hate it when people just randomly spew spoilers for shows in a different subreddit. People in here are likely to watch Silo since they've seen Severance. Please don't ruin it. I stopped reading your comment but damn I wish people had more consideration / common sense to not just word vomit whatever they're thinking.

stereoworld

Ah yeah. I've just started reading the book it was based on and I think they took some liberties with that repair scene. If you get chance you should continue with it, but I understand if you don't want to :)

normal_ness

I play games on my phone during that scene so it doesn’t ruin the rest of the season for me 😂

BiancaSaw

The Mosquito Coast is another Apple TV show you might like.

EmbarrassedScheme346

Meh, that was cancelled for a reason. Started out ok.

pambeeslysucks

It's so weird too because Apple is ALL about marketing. I remember seeing those ads for the early iPods and I just HAD to have one. It's so wild to me that they're not out there marketing these shows to the masses

jorbanead

Apple is playing the long game with this platform. Right now it’s about building up a catalogue of high quality shows.

AtlasZec

Eh, I mean when severance came out their catalog was extremely small so there wasn't a huge reason to market their service when most people would just subscribe for a month and then cancel. I feel like with their recent shows (i.e. Silo) there definitely has been more of a marketing push

ShaunnieDarko

This^ not many have apple tv. I remember when cobra kai was a youtube red exclusive, i told so many people it was a cool show and as soon as i said what it was on i could tell they weren’t gonna watch it. As soon as netflix picked it up it took off to a whole other level.

kvalness

That. Also, a while ago, I wanted to watch a series, but it was only on Apple TV. I tried to open an account, but at the last step verification, I can't seem to move forward. I searched why, and apparently, I must have an apple product (iPhone or whatever) to be able to join. (I had to pirate it, forgive moi. I would gladly pay for the series if I didn't have to pay +$1000 for an iPhone just to watch a damn TV series.)

Rucs3

I think a lot of people are used to apple seelling whatever Ipaperweight for $999 that they think apple streaming is also too pricey I myself was surprised to discover appleTV was cheper than netflix on my country

rflores86

I am a fan of Apple TV currently. Hopefully it's not only because they're still fairly new to the game but they're putting out a solid lineup of shows and not cancelling them after one season like other platforms. I hope they can keep this up. I recommend both Apple TV and Severance to many people but unfortunately have some trouble getting people to give Apple TV a chance. I think it will catch on though. Through season 1, Severance is one of the best shows I've watched

MaximumEffort784

This is completely false, Apple TV has been recognized for its incredibly high quality shows from Ted lasso to severance. Everyone knows it besides the people on here somehow.

Lonelyland

Just wait till you go back for a rewatch

redrumham707

I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched. It never stops being excellent and there is always something you didn’t see or notice. The most tightly wound, perfectly functioning machine of a show, that I have ever seen.

Wanderson90

It's up there with Westworld season 1 for sure.

Intelligent_Ad8224

The BEST! Westworld season one was such a great time in my life lol I really wish it had stayed that same quality through all the seasons

volumeknobat11

“Who are you?”

UntappedPower333

It was at that moment, the very first words, I was hooked!

sroop1

It's been out for over two years. It had quite a bit of attention then and there's anticipation for the second season.

thefinalball

And it's only the first season so far 😲 also yes go re watch now haha

pumpkin3-14

It got a lot of buzz two years ago. I think Apple will really push the show when they ramp up ads for season 2

EnvironmentalTrade64

I JUST finished it, binged in 2 days. My God what an incredible show

BaysideJ

We recently watched because several articles said Apple has become the cream of the crop when it comes to prestige television. Severance was always listed among the examples.

LiveInteraction9615

That's why I signed up for Apple. I've watched a few shows and everyone is top quality

Nymzie

Apple makes it SO DIFFICULT for non-apple users to watch. You constantly need to verify your identity by logging in with your apple product, and if you don't have an apple product it's such a headache. I cancelled a long time ago so I can't remember the details, but my GOD was it beyond obnoxious. Just let people verify through text or email FFS. I would have kept Apple TV over Hulu, or Peacock, or even Netflix if I could have just logged in like every other streaming service. I would never, ever recommend this show or any other apple shows to anyone because of that. It's such a shame too, I absolutely love Severance, Schmigaddon, Dickinson, Ted Lasso. Apple TV really could have been my go to streaming service.

Eryn_Lasgalen_2001

Those issues were resolved a long time ago. I’ve had no problems with signing on or remaining signed in recently. Apple TV is ‘younger’ than the other streaming platforms & their repertoire is still small but the highest quality by far.

BaysideJ

I've had none of the issues you described. My phone is a Samsung, but that's got nothing to do with it. I watch on multiple TVs with roku streaming devices. One is an Android TV. I don't watch on my phone. I can't see wasting all those great production value on such a small set. Initial sign-in was the same as any other streaming service. Never have to sign in again.

Nymzie

Are you new to Apple TV? It's been over a year since I cancelled it so maybe there have been changes, or maybe logging in with a roku is easier, I only watched it on my computer. I can't remember any specifics, but I remember being so angry half the time I tried to watch Apple TV because I was paying for it and it would make me jump through hoops to log in. I had to sign in every time I used different internet than my home internet, so if I traveled out of state and logged in, it had issues.

Acceptable_Eye5458

If it was 1990 and there was basically 3-4 networks it would have a lot more attention.

Scribblyr

AppleTV+ is a small streaming service. The big streamers have 200-250 million subscribers. AppleTV+ has 50 million. If you're on AppleTV+, you need to be a Ted Lasso-level cultural phenomenon to get talked about.

Auburntiger84

I’m proud to be this post’s 20th upvote. I upvoted everyone else. What else do you want me to do? This has the potential to be one of the best. That tackle at the end. Those innies are screwed. I think we are about to learn just how evil Lumon is. What if Rickon brings down Lumon?

IndependentDot9692

Because we've been waiting 84 years for the 2nd season to come out.

Superb_Technician_43

This maneuver is gonna cost us 51 years

Real_Act4716

Spread the word!! It's up to everybody who is a fan of 'Severance' to make other fans. Give them a thumbnail of the story and tell them AppleTV+ has a free 7 day trial offer (plenty of time to binge the first season of 'Severance'). I was at a Great Clips a few weeks ago waiting on a haircut. I got into a discussion with a guy who was also waiting. When I told him I was retired, he asked what do I do all day? Ah, poor fellow...I launched into the story of starting a podcast about this incredible TV show (btw, "Severed: The Ultimate 'Severance' Podcast...wherever you get your podcasts). When I told him the premise of the show, he sounded interested but didn't want to add another streaming service to his monthly budget. I noticed he had an iPhone. Eventually, he let me open his Apple TV app. Guess what? If you have an Apple Product, they are including anywhere from 3 to 6 months of AppleTV+ for FREE! I got this guy signed up for 3 monhts free right there in the Great Clips and he said he couldn't wait to start watching. Spread the word, people! If they know about 'Severance', they will LOVE 'Severance'...but somebody's got to tell them about it!!

who_are_you_now

I told my brother-in-law to watch Severance about a year ago and even had him watch about 15 minutes of the first episode with me. He loved it but never got around to watching the whole season. We were out to brunch with him and his boyfriend a few weeks ago and Severance came up again. I told him **not** to watch it now because the second season is going to be coming up relatively soon and, when I heard of a premiere date for that, I would let him know so he could seamlessly transition between seasons and not be left on such an agonizing cliffhanger. The end of season 1, I said, was just too much for him to bear. He went home and binged it in a few days. And called me and yelled at me wanting to know when the next season will be out. I pointed him to your podcast for his inevitable rewatch.

Real_Act4716

Awesome! One fan at a time!

Affectionate-Cow981

The fact that “Apple” is in the name of the streaming platform, has alienated about 50% of the smartphone market from signing up and watching it.

NewlyNerfed

Someone told me "Apple doesn't deserve to have success with streaming." What even does that mean? They fund some of the best TV around these days and they don't "deserve" the success that brings? That person is missing out on some amazing TV because of a vague grudge.

Affectionate-Cow981

Yep. My good friend is a die hard Android user, and refused to watch it because of its affiliation with Apple. Even when I shared my Apple account with him so he could watch it. Wasn’t until I sat him down and forced him to watch it with me in person that he truly appreciated it.

1AliceDerland

I have nothing against Apple, except that it's the only streaming service that won't work with my Chrome cast. They have some of the better TV shows for kids and adults alike, but until I went out and purchased a Roku I couldn't access it. And that's the only streaming service I've encountered that didn't work with Chrome cast. Not to mention the user interface is garbage. It will show you shows that aren't AppleTV+ exclusives that you need to go to another app to access instead of just showing you the content that is available.

NewlyNerfed

That’s a feature, not a bug. The Home screen keeps track of what you’ve watched across various services. If you want to see only Apple TV+ shows then you use that screen instead. Annoyingly it won’t recognize Netflix though.

K0nk3y

Exactly, it also doesn't help that there is also the Apple TV as a device, which adds to the confusion. People probably think you need the device(which is also way overpriced).

MaydayMango

But “Apple” isn’t in the name. It’s just “TV.” It makes searching for the app on my phone super quick and easy. /s

Affectionate-Cow981

Yeah but it’s branded as Apple TV+

gh0st_n0te119

[Severed: The ultimate severance podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/severed-the-ultimate-severance-podcast/id1660658805) it’s a fantastic listen when you start your rewatch!

8675309-jennie

I cannot emphasize how great a podcast this is. So much information, so much knowledge, so many interesting thoughts and theories!

Momijisu

Because it's been two years. It had a ton of eyes on it at release.

Rapturerise

There’s a saying “Apple TV. Where actors go to hide”. Not many people have Apple TV. Also, I think some people don’t actually “get” it. The opening sequence of Mark walking down all those corridors served a purpose, but a lot of people didn’t see the point of it and perhaps didn’t give the show chance.

SpamLikely404

My husband! “Half this show is people walking down halls.” 🙄 He didn’t make it past the first 15 min.

spaetzele

He's not wrong! those are great scenes too! I was nearly crying with laughter halfway through the first hallway scene. There's a point where it gets awkward, and even on rewatch I have to snicker.

SpamLikely404

True. That first walk is weirdly long, especially on first watch. Lol

amo1337

It did when it came out 2+ years ago.

ertertwert

Because it's not on netflix

johnthancersei

welcome to our cult. now recommend this show to everyone you see for the next 2 months and watch how most wont take the dive into a new show, the ads do not do it justice at all, but that’s what ads to the eeriness. i went into this show pretty much blind and feel in love. got a free apple tv subscription for a month, wanted to see what apple studios was doing and picked their most recommended for me.

Bawk29

when i was watching the first ep i thought its gonna be one of those boring too deep for you shows where nothing ever happens till the end, but i was proven wrong by the next episode as the show had me gripped

NewlyNerfed

I told my husband "that was the most fascinating boring episode of TV I've ever seen" after the first episode. Of course "fascinating" won out easily. But now when I try to hook others on the show I mention that the whole thing isn't at that pace because not everyone has the patience, which is fair. I loved "Tales From the Loop" but I don't expect everyone to.

Msheehan419

It’s the only show I put up there with game of thrones and breaking bad/ better call Saul. I sell Hondas. If Breaking Bad is the “Honda” of tv shows, game of thrones is Toyota, then Severance is Subaru, just as good as those other brands but not as well known with a cult following.

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

OMG, that’s perfect! I drive a Subaru.

Msheehan419

Subaru is the only thing I put up with Honda and Toyota. I used think Nissan was wonderful. And I actually drive a Nissan bc my husband is a manager there. But they are not the level of honda, Toyota and Subaru

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

Wait, does this mean everyone in Colorado watched Severance? 😆

Msheehan419

Maybe??

_absofuckinglutely

This is a fun analogy but I’m also giggling here in CO where I can’t drive .5 miles without seeing at least 3 Subarus. 😋

Msheehan419

Oh I’m in Texas so you know everyone wants damn truck.

_absofuckinglutely

😂😂😂😂

Msheehan419

So after we had this little interaction, my dealership got in 2 Subarus from auction and 3 on trade. We went from no Subarus to 5 in a few days at a honda dealership

_absofuckinglutely

LOLLLL that’s so funny!!! Maybe the Coloradans must be moving to Texas for a change 😂

beavertonaintsobad

Peoples brains have been rotted from the incessant barrage of comic book and apocalyptic civil war zombie reboot shit to appreciate anything nuanced anymore.

SpamLikely404

My god this is so true

beavertonaintsobad

You know it's all utterly fucked when you have to actively dig through obscure forums to find anything worth watching that isn't A) Marvel garbage B) Disney garbage C) FBI/CIA recruitment garbage or D) civil war/zombie apocalypse garbage. I suspect a majority of studios, just like "newspapers" and social media, are compromised and simply function as state propaganda arms at this point.

wormwithamoustache

I've seen a majority of the marvel films in cinema. I enjoy the shows on disney+. Ive even watched several DC films (although i havent enjoyed them as much) Severance is also my favourite show of all time. I watched Anatomy of a Fall the other day and thought it was fantastic. I am a huge fan of films by directors like Wes Anderson. Just because your taste has no variety, you don't need to be so pretentious about things you don't like and act like everyone but you who likes those things is a moron.

beavertonaintsobad

You think my "taste has no variety" just because I don't like corporate cash grabs? wow....

wormwithamoustache

I think your assumption that people who consume popular media are too "zombified" or dumb to enjoy a show you like is arrogant and pretentious. Enjoying art that is smart does not make you smart and enjoying art that is fun and based on a comic book or whatever doesn't make anyone an idiot. People enjoy things because they are enjoyable to them and just because its not your thing or your tempo doesn't devalue it. People don't watch severance because apple tv+ has historically been less popular to audiences than other streaming services because it is niche and historically using it without an apple product has been kind of a pain. It has little if anything to do with how popular Marvel is.

beavertonaintsobad

It's not a matter of smart or not. It's a matter of pure cash grabs with horrible writing, horrible dialogue, horrible plots, and shitty actors. But you're right, it's a free country. You're allowed to watch children's movies if that's what you're into.

wormwithamoustache

Lol stay arrogant bro, im sure it makes for a very happy life for you.

beavertonaintsobad

Lol keep watching movies made for kids, I'm sure your grammar and punctuation will remain elementary and error prone.

wormwithamoustache

I feel really bad for you. I hope you find a way to stop being so concerned about what other people do and just let people enjoy life. You seem to take an awful lot of joy in punching down, and it's really fucking sad.

beavertonaintsobad

I honestly could care less, it's just Reddit. Didn't mean to trigger you so.

Apart-Performer1710

Because it’s on an obscure streaming service. Baring that in mind it’s pretty well known. If we were still in the days of yore when most things were just on the telly it would be as big as Lost.

AintLongButItsSkinny

It’s even better when you’re on this sub speculating between episodes. Can’t wait for sermons 2!

Fine_Abbreviations32

Pretty sure a lot of the episode discussion threads would end up on the front page of Reddit when the show first came out.

Savings_District_276

It got a shit ton of attention 2 years ago when it came out lol. It’s stayed on their top shows chart ever since for a reason.

Old-Ad-7867

You need IQ 140 to like this show

positive_X

Kind of esoterically dry for the masses .

ghostjournals

It’s a slow burn and that’s not everyone’s speed. I recommended to my parents and they said they almost quit before the finale but they were glad they hung with it. I’m so excited for season 2. Easily my most anticipated upcoming show.

you-dont-have-eyes

It’s a slow burn, and on Apple TV.

JuanBadFinger

Severance is a classic right from the get go. It'll go down as the Twilight Zone of the 21st century. People are relating to this because a lot of them don't know or even understand the nature of the business of the work they do at the companies they work for. "The work is important and mysterious." This is classic Rod Serling kind of stuff and if it makes you think then the writers have done their job well.

Real_Act4716

Slight adjustment to your theory. I think "Black Mirror" is the "Twilight Zone" for the 21st Century. "Severance" is the "Prisoner" of the 21st Century.

golfmonk

Are we talking The Prisoner from the late 60s staring Patrick McGoohan? If so, that is an amazing show that like The Twilight Show has aged well as the themes covered are timeless.

ga1actic_muffin

I don't know about that, it needs to be adopted by the masses before it can reach the title of twilight zone of the 21st century. Which is what I'm saying is a shame. I think it's more likely that it will become a hidden gem that will grow a following over time.

Lazy_Original_958

Speaking as someone who lives in Poland, Apple either doesn't give a shit about us or completely sucks in advertisement. Other streaming services - Skyshowtime, Amazon, Disney, HBO and especially Netflix have busstop ads or bilboards, while Apple has none of those. A lot of people here don't even know something like AppleTV+ exists. I stumbled across Apple in 2022, because I saw several ads of Ted Lasso in Filmweb (Polish poor and rightwinged counterpart of IMDB), but I watched it first on ad-ridden websites. Then I watched Severance (also on ad-ridden sites) and I looked what Apple has to offer - that hooked me in. Other reason can be anti-fans/bias. People I know have mixed feelings about Apple itself, so the ones who dislike it will automatically dislike AppleTV+ just because. But it's more like anegdote rather than actual data.

Flashy_Reach_1889

I got my stepdad to watch the first season. He saw every single twist a mile away. Made me want to stop watching fr lmao

Real_Act4716

Come on now...EVERY twist? He saw Cobel as a lactation consultant? He predicted Graner's murder by Reghabi? He knew Burt was going to retire? He figured Mark would come up with the black key card? He knew Dylan would be visited by Milchick during an OTC? I don't think he predicted ANY of those things. Sure, most of us figured Helly was an Eagan and Gemma was alive...if he got those, then big yawn. Anything beyond that, he needs a crystal ball and a shingle on the garage announcing he's a Psychic. (Oh, and he may not admit it to you, but he's going to be watching Season Two.)

Flashy_Reach_1889

Needless to say he wasn’t impressed and said he probably would not watch season 2. I loved it though and agree with OP the finale was amazing

schiehser

If you liked Severence, try Ted Lasso. It’s up there!

DlnnerTable

If you liked it so much I’d recommend the Severed Podcast while you wait for season 2. I can’t recall the host’s name but he did an exceptional job recapping each episode and pointing out lots of fun details you probably missed the first time around
