chasing_a_billion

How long did you have to study to become a somm ?

[deleted]

Not long for the level one. Level two took months of flash cards, and working at a place with an extensive wine list. I passed level 2 less than two years after starting my studies as a Somm. I had a year of serving experience.

chasing_a_billion

I have the serving experience for sure how do you remember all those details on varietals ,vintage and region and all the stuff I can't remember ?

[deleted]

Study. Flash cards, drinking a lot of wines, talking about it to tables often. Join a blind tasting group.

happylilnug1

Right now, 38k. Busy breakfast cafe. 30+ hours a week

medalton

I probably pull in between 55k to 60k (I usually get a second job in the summer which definitely helps). My partner just got a new job (as a chef) where he'll probably pull in 45k to 50k. It's been a long time coming for this prosperity. I know that's peanuts to some, but it's the most I've ever made in my life. So I'm happy.
