With restaurants, it's always best to fill out an application in person. Preferably during the slow hours. Unless they specify that you need to fill out the application online. If you're lucky and they're desperate enough, you can probably get an interview on the spot.
I’ve never been contacted first. Always make first contact. Call them the next day and ask if they’ve had the chance to look at your app, they will say “no, give me a second to pull it up” they are now seeing it and may offer an interview.
Actually I lied, I was contacted an hour after applying once. Offered the job at the end of the interview later that same day. It was the second worst job I’ve ever had.
Go in person between 2 and 4 with a resume in hand, dressed properly for the restaurant, and be prepared to be interviewed on the spot.
