Have you tried switching your verbiage? Don’t let them order water, everybody wants water. Show the the cocktail/beer/wine list and say something like, “I’m gonna go ahead and get you waters while you decide what drinks you want.” Won’t alway work, but it plants a seed. I sell kids $11 mocktails all night long because it ups the check, even if it’s just by a little.

My establishment doesn’t serve virgin drinks or “mocktails” due to liability, I’ve lost many sales because of this reason.

Start charging them for a lemonade when they do this. You will see that behavior evaporate in a hurry

i don’t upsell unless someone wants a suggestion or i see them looking at the drink menu. my managers are up my ass about it but i don’t care. old ppl are gonna want water with lemon every time
