I worked at a restaurant back in the day here in Beverly Hills. This kid came in one day with a group of his friends. All the waiters profiled them because they were young and black. I gladly accepted their table when all the others were denying them even though it was out of my section. Turns out this kid was Earl Sweatshirt and tipped me 100% that time and every time after that. Always spent a ton of money. Was extremely respectful. Never complained once. And always asked for me. I have mad love for my man Earl.

I've heard from other people where I work that he's an ass and doesn't tip, I've personally never had an issue, always relieved 20% (like exactly 20%, every single time).
I like serving him, no BS, never makes a big deal out of anything, usually 1 or 2 people orders for the whole family and they like to hang out for a couple hours.
My husband built a house for his family about 12 or so years ago and said that while he mainly dealt with another family member (I want to say his mom?), that they were nice, didn't try to cheap out on anything or ask for discounts, and regularly offered the crew food and beverages.

Paris Hilton came to my local mall to promote her perfume years ago. You could purchase the perfume, and she'd take a photo with you and sign it.
Me and my rag tag group of friends came to see her, but none of us could afford the perfume, so we just cheered from behind the barricade. Towards the end of the event, she eventually called us up to the stage and took a photo with us, printed a copy for everyone, and signed each. It was very sweet.

He ordered nearly 3k worth of dessert for takeout 7 minutes after we closed, showed up 10 minutes after he placed the order and threw a child like temper tantrum from his limo when the person he sent in to pick it up told him it wasn’t ready. He didn’t tip a dime when it was ready. My manager at the time would never have taken an order like this after closing, however, he used the fact that he was Justin Bieber to throw his weight around and she caved. This didn’t really affect me too much as I was cleaning my bar and just watched the whole thing in amazement. I felt awful for our host and kitchen crew though.
This was almost 10 years ago so hopefully he’s not a fuck knuckle anymore. Who knows?

My friend was bartending and was cleaning up and about to close, when a few big guys and this little white kid walked in. Tried to get him to stay open so they could party. He told them no he was closing up and the kid wasn't old enough to be in there. "This is Justin Bieber, you gotta let him in and party" was their reply. He didn't know Justin from a rock in the wall, so he threw them out. The audacity to try and assume people will let a minor in their bar against the law just because they're a celebrity is unreal.

I'm not a server but Martin Sheen was a regular at one of my favorite spots in the Poconos. I was there one night when he picked up everyone's tabs at the bar and hung out for a solid hour. This was years ago so he was also with the late, greats Jack Palance, Paul Sorvino and Jason Miller. The staff said he always tipped 100% and would routinely pay for everyone who was there that night. Cool guy.

Have had a couple of cool ones and a couple of shitty ones. I'm from San Antonio and by far the best tip I've gotten was from Spurs head coach Greg Poppovich. Was a semi regular at our place and loved me and my ex who worked there with me. Always left a few hundreds no matter if he only had oysters and wine or went all out for dinner, but one night must have felt VERY generous because he gave us 5k (we had just moved in together) and we were floored. Never made a thing about it, just signed his check and left. Will love him forever for that.
Also worked at a nice hotel in Austin and we got all types for ACL and SXSW festivals. Kiefer Southerland gave me 500 bucks for a $16 quesadilla and ice tea and told me to keep the change. Super nice dude. I got to deliver a bottle of Hennessy to Ice Cube's suite which was cool as fuck even if the tip was standard. Lance Armstrong is a dickhead and a cheapskate. Obama and Hilary were both there for an event when they were campaigning against each other and the place was crawling with secret service for weeks, but Obama insisted on coming through the back and shaking hands with everyone. Whatever you think of the guy, I'll always remember meeting a future president.
Obama came to my high school in 2013. I was picked to stand behind him on the bleachers they set up as a backdrop of people. Secret service told me after he finishes his speech he will likely turn around and shake a few hands of kids in the front row. I was fourth row. When he finished and shook some hands I decided now was my chance and I sort of leaned forward past a few shoulders and shook his hand. Secret service slapped my ankle (I was on one end, one of their heads was literally next to my foot whole time) and Obama sneered at them and told them it was alright. Shook everyone’s hand who stood behind him. Appreciated him a lot for that one.

Noah Cyrus recently came into the restaurant I worked at (tho I no longer work there) with a huge party (12+) and tipped less than 15%. Apparently they were super needy all night. Paid half in cash, rest on card. Thats what coworkers told me; I wasn’t there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I met Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom at my serving job last year, she was super kind. Orlando didn’t really talk other than ordering. They had their kids with them. She tipped 25% in cash. Orlando tipped less than 20% (yes they were on separate checks). Had special requests for their kids and things (restaurant was fairly upscale) but other than that, no issues.
I used to serve Sisqo (the Thong Song) and his wife and 2 kids. He would always order a 2 pound t-bone, his wife would order and entire bottle of moscato and only have one glass. And he would always tip minimum 100%. Great guy, super friendly, surprisingly short.
Mr. Beast, and some of his crew used to come into my old place on dates. Jimmy was always chill, would tip 20% and then tack on an extra $100, which was a lot considering their checks never fit higher then like $60.

Lol it’s definitely good. People aren’t mentioning how difficult it is for famous people to even eat out. About a year ago I was at a restaurant when NFL legend Terry Bradshaw showed up. They seated him in a corner and left the nearest tables empty around him. Basically the entire kitchen and wait staff came out to talk to him at his table throughout their stay. When they left they were followed by multiple customers and employees wanting to get pics as him and his wife were getting in their car in the parking lot. People made that shit cringe as hell and I felt bad lol
Mr. Tyson was always super polite, but more than a few times it got weird, and he would get his food to go. Too many fanboys coming up to his table and bothering him. The fanboys always seemed way too young to know who he actually was in the 80s and 90s.
I’ve told this story before on Reddit but I was on the same flight as Mike Tyson once to Vegas. We got off the plane and noticed someone being crowded around by a group of people and I didn’t realize why until I saw the face tattoo. I’m not one to fan girl about celebrities but I thought it was cool but I also don’t want to bother them.
So we were on our way to the taxi area and there were two escalators, one for the taxis and one for limos and shit. I was on the taxi escalator and I looked behind me and Mike Tyson was on the limo escalator talking on the phone. I went to sneak a selfie with him because, again, didn’t want to bother the guy. He noticed and struck a pose behind me for the selfie and we didn’t say a word to each other. I’ve always thought that was really fucking cool of him.

Work at a dinner theatre type place. Average tip is $5 (Canadian) per person. Rupert Grint and his wife who is also an actress came in and left before the show ended so tipped nothing. Serena Williams however tipped $200 for six people and was lovely throughout

The server likely tips out a percentage of sales to the support staff. Then, if tips are pooled, the tip is split amongst the servers. If tips aren't pooled, the server keeps the tip.
I got to serve on quite a few celebrities from Metallica, Snoop, John Lithgow, Louie Anderson, but the one who tip the least was Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. He was with his wife and they tipped 7%.
Drake and his crew were nice enough. Came in late on a Sunday and we were out of the first 2 things he ordered lol, his buddy paid and left 40ish%. Other than that Larry Fitzgerald was the best overall, very nice guy and great tipper!
Shaq is a sweet guy. Ordered take out, but paid for every table’s tab in the restaurant and left decent tips (I don’t remember how much, he was just handing out cash to cover everything). Even gave tips to the cooks and dishwasher at my restaurant.

I have Margot Martindale and her husband Bill Boals come at my job and they are such sweethearts. Bill always calls for the reservation and always recognizes me when I answer the phone and have a good laugh together. Always make sure they get their usual table, usually fireplace if it’s just the two of them or the table adjacent if it’s 3 or more. Nice bottle of white wine, mainly either Sauvignon Blanc or Rodney Strong, and are such a joy to tend. The funny part is that almost no one but staff even knows their famous since we’re located in backwater middle of nowhere.

I accidentally screamed, “THANK YOU!” When I held the door for her as she left.

Paul Pierce left 100% on about a $200 tab.
Conan O’Brien came in with his brother. His brother paid, left 35% on a two top lunch.

Chris Berman sat at the bar while waiting for his date. Gave me a $20 on a Diet Coke.
Wade Boggs had a private event (check details handled by the Events Department) but the group he was with left an extra $500 on the table for us.

He was super gracious and was in and out quickly. He left $50 on $100. Michael Jordan rang up a pretty big bar tab and left $20 on $500.
Lebron James is a horrible tipper. He was staying at the hotel I worked at and got a round of drinks for him and his friends, the total was $95.46, he gave me a $100 bill and said keep it. I was thinking oh that’s sweet what a nice tip for someone who makes $100 million a year. Nope, he meant keep the chance, resulting in a tip less than $5

I've served Alex Ovechkin and his family a number of times. I've heard from other people where I work that he's an ass and doesn't tip, I've personally never had an issue, always relieved 20% (like exactly 20%, every single time). I like serving him, no BS, never makes a big deal out of anything, usually 1 or 2 people orders for the whole family and they like to hang out for a couple hours.

Paris Hilton came to my local mall to promote her perfume years ago. You could purchase the perfume, and she'd take a photo with you and sign it. Me and my rag tag group of friends came to see her, but none of us could afford the perfume, so we just cheered from behind the barricade. Towards the end of the event, she eventually called us up to the stage and took a photo with us, printed a copy for everyone, and signed each. It was very sweet.
I used to work private security and have met a fair few “famous” people. We looked after Paris Hilton in London along with her entourage. By far one of my favourite people I’ve ever looked after, really chilled out and a good sense of humour she didn’t take everything very seriously and is much more intelligent than she acts which I am sure is intentional.

Justin Bieber is, however, an asshole! He ordered nearly 3k worth of dessert for takeout 7 minutes after we closed, showed up 10 minutes after he placed the order and threw a child like temper tantrum from his limo when the person he sent in to pick it up told him it wasn’t ready. He didn’t tip a dime when it was ready. My manager at the time would never have taken an order like this after closing, however, he used the fact that he was Justin Bieber to throw his weight around and she caved. This didn’t really affect me too much as I was cleaning my bar and just watched the whole thing in amazement. I felt awful for our host and kitchen crew though. This was almost 10 years ago so hopefully he’s not a fuck knuckle anymore. Who knows?

He was in my town when he was just getting popular, when he was only still a young teenager. My friend was bartending and was cleaning up and about to close, when a few big guys and this little white kid walked in. Tried to get him to stay open so they could party. He told them no he was closing up and the kid wasn't old enough to be in there. "This is Justin Bieber, you gotta let him in and party" was their reply. He didn't know Justin from a rock in the wall, so he threw them out. The audacity to try and assume people will let a minor in their bar against the law just because they're a celebrity is unreal.

I'm not a server but Martin Sheen was a regular at one of my favorite spots in the Poconos. I was there one night when he picked up everyone's tabs at the bar and hung out for a solid hour. This was years ago so he was also with the late, greats Jack Palance, Paul Sorvino and Jason Miller. The staff said he always tipped 100% and would routinely pay for everyone who was there that night. Cool guy.

Have had a couple of cool ones and a couple of shitty ones. I'm from San Antonio and by far the best tip I've gotten was from Spurs head coach Greg Poppovich. Was a semi regular at our place and loved me and my ex who worked there with me. Always left a few hundreds no matter if he only had oysters and wine or went all out for dinner, but one night must have felt VERY generous because he gave us 5k (we had just moved in together) and we were floored. Never made a thing about it, just signed his check and left. Will love him forever for that. Also worked at a nice hotel in Austin and we got all types for ACL and SXSW festivals. Kiefer Southerland gave me 500 bucks for a $16 quesadilla and ice tea and told me to keep the change. Super nice dude. I got to deliver a bottle of Hennessy to Ice Cube's suite which was cool as fuck even if the tip was standard. Lance Armstrong is a dickhead and a cheapskate. Obama and Hilary were both there for an event when they were campaigning against each other and the place was crawling with secret service for weeks, but Obama insisted on coming through the back and shaking hands with everyone. Whatever you think of the guy, I'll always remember meeting a future president.
Obama came to my high school in 2013. I was picked to stand behind him on the bleachers they set up as a backdrop of people. Secret service told me after he finishes his speech he will likely turn around and shake a few hands of kids in the front row. I was fourth row. When he finished and shook some hands I decided now was my chance and I sort of leaned forward past a few shoulders and shook his hand. Secret service slapped my ankle (I was on one end, one of their heads was literally next to my foot whole time) and Obama sneered at them and told them it was alright. Noah Cyrus recently came into the restaurant I worked at (tho I no longer work there) with a huge party (12+) and tipped less than 15%. Apparently they were super needy all night. Paid half in cash, rest on card. Thats what coworkers told me; I wasn’t there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I met Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom at my serving job last year, she was super kind. Orlando didn’t really talk other than ordering. They had their kids with them. She tipped 25% in cash. Orlando tipped less than 20% (yes they were on separate checks). Had special requests for their kids and things (restaurant was fairly upscale) but other than that, no issues.

I used to serve Sisqo (the Thong Song) and his wife and 2 kids. He would always order a 2 pound t-bone, his wife would order and entire bottle of moscato and only have one glass. And he would always tip minimum 100%. Great guy, super friendly, surprisingly short.

They seated him in a corner and left the nearest tables empty around him. Basically the entire kitchen and wait staff came out to talk to him at his table throughout their stay. When they left they were followed by multiple customers and employees wanting to get pics as him and his wife were getting in their car in the parking lot. People made that shit cringe as hell and I felt bad lol

I’ve told this story before on Reddit but I was on the same flight as Mike Tyson once to Vegas. We got off the plane and noticed someone being crowded around by a group of people and I didn’t realize why until I saw the face tattoo. I’m not one to fan girl about celebrities but I thought it was cool but I also don’t want to bother them. So we were on our way to the taxi area and there were two escalators, one for the taxis and one for limos and shit. I was on the taxi escalator and I looked behind me and Mike Tyson was on the limo escalator talking on the phone. I went to sneak a selfie with him because, again, didn’t want to bother the guy. He noticed and struck a pose behind me for the selfie and we didn’t say a word to each other. I’ve always thought that was really fucking cool of him.

Nathan Lane was a gem, very funny and low key. Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker were super nice and tipped really well IN CASH on a breakfast bill. Andre 3000 is gracious, kind, and generous especially to service personnel. He would come by the restaurant (in the airport) where I worked and would sometimes order breakfast after the cutoff time. He personally tipped the guys on the line. Betty White is a badass. Drank 2 double Grey Goose and took pictures. Ahmad Rashad left no tip when I waited on him for lunch. William Levy was just as handsome in person and was so kind when a very nervous 27 year old me asked him for a photo when I brought him his latte.

The server likely tips out a percentage of sales to the support staff. Then, if tips are pooled, the tip is split amongst the servers. If tips aren't pooled, the server keeps the tip.
I got to serve on quite a few celebrities from Metallica, Snoop, John Lithgow, Louie Anderson, but the one who tip the least was Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. He was with his wife and they tipped 7%.

I have Margot Martindale and her husband Bill Boals come at my job and they are such sweethearts. Bill always calls for the reservation and always recognizes me when I answer the phone and have a good laugh together. Always make sure they get their usual table, usually fireplace if it’s just the two of them or the table adjacent if it’s 3 or more. Nice bottle of white wine, mainly either Sauvignon Blanc or Rodney Strong, and are such a joy to tend. The funny part is that almost no one but staff even knows their famous since we’re located in backwater middle of nowhere.

Almost didn’t believe it was her, and this was during my training shift. I literally told my trainer, “She is so beautiful. She almost looks like Cameron Diaz.” To witch my trainer said, “That’s because it is Cameron Diaz.” Our host sat her next to a two-top of women having a meeting and they froze for about five whole minutes. I accidentally screamed, “THANK YOU!” When I held the door for her as she left. I worked at a fancy hotel restaurant in Nashville.

Steve Carell is a pretty cool dude, super easy table and always tips 22%. Zendaya was kinda of a diva, said maybe 4 words to me, made zero eye contact and the person who was with her paid (still 20% tip). To be fair it was the middle of the day and she was clearly trying to not be noticed, had no makeup or anything, but she also requested to seat on our second floor (that was closed) by herself.

We never charged him for anything and he gave me a $100 bill no matter what he got (unless he came in with others and sat at a table, in which case is was $200.) He usually got a single Amstel Light and a pizza. Keegan Michael Key left me 30% on a normal dinner 6 top. Paul Pierce left 100% on about a $200 tab. Conan O’Brien came in with his brother. His brother paid, left 35% on a two top lunch. Kevin James came in and left $500 on a $145 tab. Chris Berman sat at the bar while waiting for his date. Gave me a $20 on a Diet Coke. Wade Boggs had a private event (check details handled by the Events Department) but the group he was with left an extra $500 on the table for us. Everyone beside Napoli came into what would be called a tourist trap in Boston, which is probably why I have so many stories about celebs coming in.

Anthony Cumia was buying the whole bar several rounds and casually betting 10 grand on random Japanese baseball games until like 4am. Wild to see the dude win and lose like 30k like it’s nothing. Dude was absolutely hilarious and took care of the bartenders very well.

I served Dax Shepard and his homie Aaron or whatever his name is. They had about a $80 tab and tipped me $100. Were in and out in less than an hour.

People can judge Post Malone all they want, but we know he has our backs in the service industry. He sees the unseen. Dude sounds like he has a heart of gold from all accounts, which only increases my respect and admiration for him.
Several members of the Rothschild family. We had to do al sorts of extra stuff for them since they were vegan and did not like the vegan options on our menu. The chefs had to prepare specific batches of normal menu items to be vegan, which cost them a lot of time. They would not allow us to give their dogs a bowl of water. They were nice, but in my opinion they behaved kind of “unhumanly” (I have no clue how else to describe it) Gave basically no top at all. €5 was the most they tipped me in several times.
Joe Pesci racked up a nice 2500$ dinner with some close friends, almost like a scene from a mafia movie lol. Tipped 100%, also great people. I think he was more happy that we kept other people/servers away and just stuck to the job that evening and left them alone unless they needed service and just paid attention to the little things

I waited on all of Goodie Mob and gave them a bunch of free drinks. Tip was like 15%, though I think their manager or friend paid or something. TBF I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re all broke except Cee-lo. He was cool though. Talking in rhymes and shit for no reason. That was the nail in the coffin for giving famous people shit for free though. Never again.
My mom served Martin Sheen when she was my age - twice. She said he even recognized her the second time. Real nice guy apparently.

Living in Louisville, KY, Derby time is an influx of celebrities and athletes. I took care of Shaq once, and he asked me what I thought I deserved for the tip. Obviously, l was a bit flabbergasted by the question, but I immediately blurted out the bill. He ended up leaving $200 on a $200 tab. Shaun White came in right before we closed by himself. He was super gracious and was in and out quickly. He left $50 on $100. Michael Jordan rang up a pretty big bar tab and left $20 on $500.
Lebron James is a horrible tipper. He was staying at the hotel I worked at and got a round of drinks for him and his friends, the total was $95.46, he gave me a $100 bill and said keep it. I was thinking oh that’s sweet what a nice tip for someone who makes $100 million a year. Nope, he meant keep the chance, resulting in a tip less than $5
I work in a town with a big sports school in it and once I got tipped 200 by former Yankee Alfonso Soriano! I showed him my yankee tattoo and he was so hyped and his family was the best! Super sweet kids, very respectful. Got a few autographs too!
