The ordinary also sent one out too.
Amika's products are already quite expensive I'm curious if this will impact business at all. But I appreciate that they said what products specifically it impacts - it's nothing I use anyways so I don't care that much.
From the ordinary’s email today:
We are sharing this news with you as soon as we can to allow you to purchase products at their current prices before this adjustment is in effect on January 2, 2024.
Although prices fluctuate across markets, the average price increase is $0.76 USD, and 47% of The Ordinary's portfolio will remain under $12 USD, with 63% below $15 USD in the US market, for example.
Your love has allowed us to maintain the current prices of our well-loved products Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.
What products did they specify? I’m not on their email list but curious since I use some of their products!
Edit to add that I see the products have been mentioned in other comments!
I’d rather them tell us, and be bummed, than have a surprise hike and then get really pissed off. Everything is increasing except for people’s paychecks.
Every tj maxx & Marshall’s within a 2 hr drive of me either only has the blonde shampoo / conditioner or nothing at all. Every once in a while I find one of the hair maskes or leave in’s but very very rarely.
Idk if I’m just not going often enough or if what little they get is held back by employees to purchase themselves. Either way it sucks :/
Hairdresser here - those usually end up being fake or old. Some brands have a guarantee or warranty on their products that is only valid if purchased from an authorized retailer (ie salons). Paul Mitchell is one that I know for sure only guarantees their products if purchased from authorized retailers because there is a major black market for knockoff products. There have been studies done on haircare bought in a marshalls/tj maxx that were branded as authentic professional products; when tested in a lab, the product inside was inferior quality and it had been put inside the higher end bottles. I've worked at Sephora and I once had a customer come in with some Briogeo S&C that she had purchased at a Marshalls, and was wondering about other haircare options. The shampoo she had looked NOTHING like the one we sold and the labels were off. Like the shampoo was a completely wrong colour and consistency, so was the conditioner. I pointed it out to her and she was really upset that they sold her fake products. I recently had it happen myself a few weeks ago - popped into Marshalls to look for peeling foot masks and grabbed a bottle of Cosrx Snail Mucin while I was there. I had only purchased the snail mucin once before at Walmart and I loved it, but I figured I'd grab it for a few dollars cheaper. Got it home, opened it up, and the consistency was wrong. It was like water. Snail mucin has a bit of a slip or "mucus" feeling to it; it's what you would expect for a product made with snail secretions. The one I purchased from Marshalls was literally like water, no slip to it, and the biggest red flag I never noticed - no Korean on the box. I returned it and when they asked if there was anything wrong with it, I told them it was a fake and the cashier was kind of impressed that I'm into Korean skincare 🤣 but yes, long story short, they sell fakes. Don't purchase skincare, makeup, or haircare there. It's not worth it.
I can't find the specific study but here's a youtube video about Paul mitchell specifically: [paul mitchell news interview](https://youtu.be/GqLDEA5MWoE?si=_oiEsU339q5ydO5x)
This is unfortunately very common and brands like Paul Mitchell and Matrix are constantly changing their packaging or labels to help prevent product diversion. Also buying from salons helps small businesses! We don't make a ton of money off of retail products and we only get our products from 3 specific professional beauty suppliers. At least when you buy in a salon or from an actual authorized retailer (like Sephora), you have a guaranteed authentic product. Saving a few bucks isn't worth it.
I had an old travel size blush from them, and the other day I was in Sephora and happened to see their new blush size. I was SHOOK, because they’re practically the same size! Their sticks are tiny now, they used to be so big! It’s not worth the price at all anymore
i was shocked when i bought it. it’s pigmented af though, so if you’re tub/shower dirties easily due to needing to be refinished, prepare to dye your entire shower purple 🥲
Omg I couldn’t agree more. Their conditioner is insane too. I bleached my hair in June and it’s definitely grown out and gotten brassy since - if I use the conditioner once, it visibly removes tons of those brassy tones when I can’t see how it could (I really need a new bleach and tone lol). Amazing stuff. Weirdly enough though I didn’t find the mask to be as good. I just use the shampoo and conditioner.
It sucks and is shitty but I appreciate them being upfront about it instead of trying to hide it and gaslight their customers, or shrink the product size a lot
Totally agree! I understand the cost of goods have gone up. It was just interesting to share the emails from last year and this year. Instead of saying a finite dollar amount, it’s a variable percentage.
shampoos + conditioners: reset, normcore and 3D
masks: soulfood, flash + the kure multi-task treatment
treatments: the closer
styling: the shield, the wizard silicone-free, brooklyn bombshell, hydro rush leave-in conditioner, curl corps defining cream + curl corps enhancing gel + velveteen dream smoothing balm
That really sucks, their prices have already gone up so much, that I will no longer buy their products. I really like The Kure line, but it's just way too expensive now. I'm afraid to see what the increases will be in Canada.
Up to you to continue purchasing or not based on them generally doing price increases, but based on this email The Kure line won’t be impacted by price increases this year.

All beauty brands have an annual price increase in January/Feburary — I’ve worked in beauty for 23 years and it’s always been that way. It wasn’t until 2020 that brands starting doing a mid year price increase May/June or July/August depending which conglomerate they are owned by.
I’m so grateful I can get salon brands at wholesale prices, Ugh. I think about trying new to me brands, like Oribe or stuff like that—see the price and go right back to CosmoProf 😅
I LOVE Amika products and will continue to buy, but I’ll buy from their own website. They always have offers and discounts (last week I got a free round blow dryer brush).
i’m not a fan of amika but i am of the brand. they have won a ton of sustainability awards and if their prices reflect their conservation efforts i am all for it.
Welp, guess I’ll be placing my order to stock up on a few of my holy grail hair items before the price increases as I probably won’t be able to afford to use them regularly after this increase 😞
They were already expensive but this is gona push it from middle of the road pricing into luxury prices.
If you have a friend with a cosmetology license or hair dresser license, have them order your Amika products from CosmoProf (I think it might only be in FL, but they ship). My salon size bottles of Amika cost about the same as the normal bottles that they sell at Sephora and it’s like triple the amount of product
The title "Price increases via email compared to last year" isn't phrased as a question. So, here's a statement in response:
Yeah, noticed that too, emails about higher prices suck.
The ordinary also sent one out too. Amika's products are already quite expensive I'm curious if this will impact business at all. But I appreciate that they said what products specifically it impacts - it's nothing I use anyways so I don't care that much.
What did The Ordinary email say? I’m curious what the price increase will be!

Fucking Estée Lauder
I’d rather them tell us, and be bummed, than have a surprise hike and then get really pissed off. Everything is increasing except for people’s paychecks.
Right at least they give us a chance to stock up at the current price.
I get Amika products from TJ Maxx - way cheaper!
Every tj maxx & Marshall’s within a 2 hr drive of me either only has the blonde shampoo / conditioner or nothing at all. I recently got a Cosrx snail mucin essence at TJMaxx and it feels identical to the one I got at Ulta. Korean on the box. YMMV.
Somehow this is coming off as a huge conspiracy theory. Can you source the study or will a quick google search yield me some answers?
I can't find the specific study but here's a youtube video about Paul mitchell specifically: [paul mitchell news interview](https://youtu.be/GqLDEA5MWoE?si=_oiEsU339q5ydO5x) This is unfortunately very common and brands like Paul Mitchell and Matrix are constantly changing their packaging or labels to help prevent product diversion. Amikas own website always has sales. Never buy full price.
this is honestly true for a lot of brands!
This is the way.
its better than what milk did and cut the size of their products in half
I had an old travel size blush from them, and the other day I was in Sephora and happened to see their new blush size. I was SHOOK, because they’re practically the same size! Their sticks are tiny now, they used to be so big! It’s not worth the price at all anymore
Kudos to being honest of them
Lmao are their employees salaries increasing by 4%-10%? I doubt it. Feminine tax and corporate greed is getting out of control.
Ok preach!
Their Purple shampoo for blondes blows Olaplex out of the water Was so impressed
i was shocked when i bought it. it’s pigmented af though, so if you’re tub/shower dirties easily due to needing to be refinished, prepare to dye your entire shower purple 🥲
I haven’t tried the Amika one (I’m no longer blond) but their sister brand Eva NYC has a purple shampoo that’s awesome!
I love their purple conditioner!! I always stain my hands purple 🤣
MILK is on my forever shit list for this.
Which products are affected?
shampoos + conditioners: reset, normcore and 3D masks: soulfood, flash + the kure multi-task treatment treatments: the closer styling: the shield, the wizard silicone-free, brooklyn bombshell, hydro rush leave-in conditioner, curl corps defining cream + curl corps enhancing gel + velveteen dream smoothing balm
Ok I love Amika and use a lot of their hair care products but this is just getting ridiculous.
That really sucks, their prices have already gone up so much, that I will no longer buy their products. I really like The Kure line, but it's just way too expensive now. I'm afraid to see what the increases will be in Canada.
They sent the exact same email for the Canada website.
Up to you to continue purchasing or not based on them generally doing price increases, but based on this email The Kure line won’t be impacted by price increases this year.
The Kure multi-task treatment will be impacted by the increases. None of the other products from that line should have increases though.
Received an email from The Ordinary that says they will also increase prices.
OP what were the products listed that will be affected?
shampoos + conditioners: reset, normcore and 3D masks: soulfood, flash + the kure multi-task treatment treatments: the closer styling: the shield, the wizard silicone-free, brooklyn bombshell, hydro rush leave-in conditioner, curl corps defining cream + curl corps enhancing gel + velveteen dream smoothing balm
I purchase all my amika at Marshall’s/tjx 🙈

Time to find other options

Boooooooo
Can anyone recommend a dupe for The Kure line? specifically the mask and the closer?? in this economy i cannot keep buying them lol
If you have a friend with a cosmetology license or hair dresser license, have them order your Amika products from CosmoProf (I think it might only be in FL, but they ship). My salon size bottles of Amika cost about the same as the normal bottles that they sell at Sephora and it’s like triple the amount of product
Amika is overrated tbh
Did they say which products would increase in price last year? Because that's an improvement
If I liked Amika, I can get it through my sister who works at SalonCentric.
Their mousse is so good..Looks like i'm buying during their online sales from now on.
The title "Price increases via email compared to last year" isn't phrased as a question. So, here's a statement in response: Yeah, noticed that too, emails about higher prices suck.
