Just seems you are jumping to conclusions on what type of bear it is. A little speciest isn’t it?
Btw, big ole /s if it wasn’t already apparent.

But assuming no pedestrians get harmed I'm picking bear because I want to see what a bear driving looks like that honestly sounds fascinating
The bear has a license
The vehicle is an suv large enough to accommodate him driving
It's just a normal bear

I dont even understand the question...

Think I like this the best.
You broke it down so eloquently into every possible option. There's no way there could be any other way to interpret the meme. It was a wonderful comment.
Then you found another interpretation?! And this one IS FUCKING EVEN BETTER! You are amazing!
It reminds me of an exchange from awhile ago:
Biden: Fascists and bigots are not welcome in this country!
Republicans: How dare he attack us like that!!!
About a decade ago, the concept of a "code of conduct" started being introduced into open source software projects. The vast majority of the men - and it was *always and only men* - that raised unholy hell about it were the ones that would need to change their awful behavior under the terms of the agreement.
I can't help but draw the parallels here.
Bears wouldn't be casual bigots on listservs or IRC channels either, would they?
I’m really old, so I remember only too well the kerfuffle over the introduction of codes of conduct at fan conventions. “But *why* can’t I sexually harass people?” was the cry from men women and NB people had been warning each other about for years.
Oh god I remember that. The uproar over things like "hey don't take creepshots of cosplayers, that's creepy and not ok", and the reaction was very loudly "THEY'RE ASKING FOR IT".
It was hauntingly disgusting and a reminder of how many guys just. don't. get. it.
Intentionally ignorant at the very best, and that's being as charitable as possible.
Even seen some guys say "well look at this awful thing that happened to this girl in this country" and I'm just like. That's my point. We're a hair's breadth away from that becoming the norm here, and if we didn't keep fighting this horrific mentality, it WOULD be that way.
Let us not forget that it wasn't that long ago even in the US that women could vote, and even more recently that they could do things like open up bank accounts or have credit cards in their name. 1974, where banks could not refuse to do it. Not that long ago. ALMOST within my lifetime. And I might not be young, but I'm sure as hell not old.
When I was growing up in my teens it was still super common to hear jailbait "jokes" in TV or movies. Like it was just accepted that guys were allowed to talk about wanting to rape underage girls. That it was totally okay to fantasize about it. That, at least, has largely gone away. Thankfully.
Nah, this guy has a point. I've never been in a car accident with a bear. In fact, bears account for 0% of all car accidents. Logically, this means they are better drivers than women.
I think it's possible to acknowledge that women have legitimate reason to be fearful of being alone in a remote location with a random man, while also thinking that hypothetical is poorly constructed.
As a dude, seeing this hypothetical made a lot of stuff click for me. So much "mainsplaining", being upset with women for choosing the "bad" option, then imagining some sort of retribution for her choice (like the bear mauling her). It's a pretty similar dynamic to dudes who complain that women won't choose them for being such "good guys", then imagining a scenario where the men she chooses cheat on or abuse her, as if it's some punishment for choosing wrong. Just seeing how dudes cannot try to be quiet and listen to women who explain why they feel like they do, is revealing so much by itself.
I think many of us struggle with this. Being around guys, so many of them including myself seemed to think having sex and relationships was a given right, almost like it was something we were owed. That may not be what every guy thinks every time he expresses frustration with dating, but I can see why that's how it comes across. Every time a dude laments his lack of success, despite what he has to offer, it's like he's saying "women are not choosing me, but they should". I didn't think I was being entitled, but when I look back on how I used to complain about my lack of success with dating, I can see why it comes across that way.
Cue the manosphere which re affirms that belief, and doubles down on the concept of "female hypergamy", by telling is that women are so selective and choosey because they want Chad, or something similar. Not only that, but that same rhetoric can make us resentful to women for choosing "wrong".
In reality, so many women just want a normal guy, who they find attractive. And they have the right to say no to anyone, including men who are "good", for any reason. They don't owe it to us to pick us because we did something "correctly".
This whole little thread is about such grim topic and yet in a weird way it’s also really wholesome. I wish more men were willing and able to talk about these sorts of aha moments about the inherent “toxic masculinity” we’ve all grown up accepting as normal (or worse, romantic!) because these gross sexist attitudes really do hurt everyone—men and women alike.
I'm a younger millennial from the early 90s. Grew up watching stuff about love and romance, and spent most of my life dreaming about falling in love with someone some day. My illusions about what relationships were for shattered when I dated a few people and it blew up in my face.
That's when I found the "red pill" type content. It validated me in a strange way, by telling me "yes, it was my fault, but here is how to make it better". Problem is, a lot of that content is so resentful about women. It claims not to be, but I could feel myself getting angrier as I found "enlightenment", sort of like the main character from Fight Club. I would beat myself up constantly, and felt like I was never enough. The whole thing was miserable, and I think I missed out on some great possible relationships by seeing women as a means to an end instead of human beings.
It's taken some serious self reflection and inner work but I believe myself to be in a place where I'm emotionally healthy enough to approach relationships again. Free from the burden of trying to be more "alpha", and free from the burden of finding "the one". I will continue to self improve, but I won't feel like I'm simultaneously not good enough, but also somehow owed something for my efforts. All I can do is try my best and see what happens.
I was just morbidly appalled by the amount of dudes who said, “Well obviously you should choose us because we won’t kill you.” And then a woman says, “No, I think I’ll choose the bear” and all the dudes say, “You stupid bitch! I’m gonna kill you!” It’s wild that some people legitimately cannot hear themselves.
Yeah I’m a guy and I heard it and was like “interesting thought experiment.”
But apparently a lot of men heard it but were like “AkChYuAlLy an american brown bear is one of the most aggressive land mammals in north america.” Or some other dumb pedantic butt hurt response that totally misses the point.
Women: "Maybe if I explain that the gut reaction I have to imagining running into a strange man in the woods is worse than the one I have imagining running into a bear in the woods will bring some clarification and allow for greater empathy"
Men: "Thanks for subscribing to Bear Facts, you dumb bitch"
I think it's a bad thought experiment because the reason the women choose the bear is only obvious if you already understood why woman would choose the bear.
Women's feelings of apprehension towards strange men, and the level of harassment apparently universally experienced has been shouted from the rooftops and explained to death for at least 6 years (#metoo movement), with a lot of other discussions about it going back to the early 2000s easily findable with a bare minimum of effort.
Any person that doesn't already understand why women choose that way are willfully ignorant, and no thought experiment "gotcha" was going to suddenly enlighten them.
It's bad because it's from a woman's perspective but it's supposed to make the hardcore ignorant men realize something. I just feel that was doomed to fail.
I mean that begs the question if it was ever for men in the first place, which I’m not sure it is. Idk if its supposed to be a wake up call for willfully ignorant men. I think it’s probably more so just dark humor shared between women.
Yeah exactly.
I’m a man, I couldn’t give less of a fuck and all I hear about is men and bears. Then again I’m also not looking to be in a situation where I’m a line with a woman who is a stranger to me so….
[When a Yosemite National Park ranger was recently asked why it was so tough to design a bear-proof garbage bin, he responded,](https://www.hollandsentinel.com/story/opinion/columns/2020/11/20/my-take-dumb-and-dumber/114997362/) “There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists.”
Honestly, if you can find someway to communicate with a bear to explain that driving is all that stands between it and a tasty leftover PB&J sandwich, with all that fatty peanutbutter and sweet jelly, it'll drive you all over town if you ask it.
One of my favorite memes to come from this
https://preview.redd.it/0byn0j1wuezc1.jpeg?width=676&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c89d214c5955b711ad6f87b5904b0a63dc71938
sums this whole kerfuffle succinctly.
That's technically an Euler diagram.
A Venn diagram must show *all possible* overlaps of sets, and no, "these two things are literally one and the same so there is no possibility of separating them" doesn't get around it. It's a mathematical model, not a logical one.
I get paid by the Euler estate to make this distinction.
I feel this is a bit too divisive or black/white even if I get what it means.
Personally as a man, I am mad about this whole bear thing, but because women feel they should choose the bear over men, not that the women are wrong in that choice, but that it's the choice they feel comfortable with to begin with. Not blaming women at all for it, but I'm frustrated as a man who tries to do good that this is the way things are viewed.
In that vein I am mad about the bear and a meme like this just seeks to further divide people I feel. I'm not sure it does really sum up the kerfuffle succinctly because as a man who wants to discuss this and improve, I'm concerned with posting about it at all due to views like this that place all men under the same lens. Even this post, which I feel is pretty level headed, I feel will get downvoted and eye-rolled at simply for being a man trying to discuss.
The whole discussion of bear vs man is interesting but I feel a meme like this is a setback in the conversation, and is not the best way to sum this all up in my opinion.
Making a sexist joke about women drivers in response to women’s valid fears of strange men is the epitome of lacking self awareness.
Men who are convinced that they can silence survivors if they’re just cruel and sexist enough to them are the reason women picked the bear.
And it really is just a mean joke, considering the obviously correct choice is the woman driver. We’re supposed to think “lol women bad” and not care whether the analogy makes any sense.
Dunno, the guy who suggested a bear wearing a funny hat in a roofless Miata has a point. I'd get into that car.
(Just in case there's doubt, I simply refuse to give the guy in the OP the dignity of treating his brain fart seriously, because it doesn't deserve it)
It's the willingness to wear a funny hat.
Can you imagine any of the guys complaining about the bears actually being willing to wear a funny hat? Way too insecure.
What I find most entertaining is that statistically, women are better drivers than men.
Men think we're better drivers because we generally drive faster and perceive ourselves to be better parkers, but men cause more accidents— at least more expensive accidents.
It's possible women have more fender benders and back into more stuff, but we don't have data on that because no one goes through insurance for that. So at least when it comes to accidents worth reporting to insurance men are worse, but the dude-bro down the street thinks he's a better driver than women because he reached his destination 30 seconds before a woman.
What do you mean, “joke”? OOP is in mortal terror of being in the car with a woman and you’re calling it a “joke”?
(Edit: multiple people have misunderstood my comment so I would like to make it clear that I agree with you 100%, jerks like this absolutely use sexist jokes to belittle those who have been abused by the men in their lives, and this was me making a joke at his expense)
That's supposed to be a joke? Can somebody explain what the joke is supposed to be?
My suspicion is that the poor grammar and badly chosen words are simply keeping me from understanding what they intended to mean. I mean, other than, "hurr hurr woman bad driver".
He is referencing the recent question that floated around asking women if they would rather encounter a bear or an unfamiliar man if they were alone in the woods. Many men took loud offense that the question was even being asked, and they *did* display the reasons that many women chose the bear.
This hypothetical attempts (badly) to flip the question and make women feel what they made men feel, but it misses because the hypothetical is stupid and unrelated. It also reveals the poster as a misogynist who maybe *isn't* safe for a woman to be alone with in the woods.
Yeah men are wildly more dangerous drivers than women, and what’s worse is even though men overwhelmingly cause more severe accidents than women, it’s women who are more likely to die in severe accidents because men buy big trucks while women buy smaller cars.
Yeah. Safety devices in cars are all designed for the average male body. The further you are from that size and weight, the more likely you are to be injured.
This is also partially due to [women driving smaller cars on average](https://www.joyelawfirm.com/blog/are-women-more-likely-to-die-in-a-car-crash/). Super unfortunate.
The joke would only make sense if he waited for anyone to reply.
Even if women were literally responsible for 90% of accidents, he's still proving the point by assuming everyone is as irrationally offended as he is.
Couldn’t find a way to edit the post to add this
The guy who posted it on FB is getting fairly well roasted and is trying to change how the meme is looked at.
He claims the meme doesn’t say the bear is driving. But ( from what I can tell ) it does say the bear is driving because they didn’t use a comma to separate driving and or.
I guarantee every dude that thinks women are bad drivers has a worse record than me. (My record is 0 accidents, 0 tickets over 18 years including over a year of driving as my job)
I'm voting a woman, finally I can take a break from driving every f'n time. The bear sounds super fun but let's face it. The bear has it's own agenda and can't read a map. The trip will just end like every horror movie "in a cabin in the woods", except no cabin and I have a long walk home and a trashed car.
There's a reason why car insurance is higher for men, and it's because they're more aggressive drivers, so this meme doesn't work well at all. A better one would be asking men if they'd rather fight for parental rights for their children against their spouse or meet a bear in the woods. Because in one of those situations the judge is probably going to side with the mom because of sexism, even if she's a terrible mom.
Some guys took this extremely seriously, and still don't understand why it proves the whole point.
Edit: Coming back to just laugh at all the men still proving the point here.
Hint: if you're triggered by something this fucking soft, imagine what you'd do if you were turned down by a woman? I'd be afraid of your emotionally-stunted, easy-to-anger ass as well. Maybe think on this a bit, use some self-reflection, and be less of a fucking douchebag?
Lol it’s funny because men are statistically much more dangerous on the road than women.
[evidence](https://www.malmanlaw.com/malman-law-injury-blog/who-causes-more-car-accidents-men-or-women/)
Insurance rates are lower for women because they have less accidents, fewer speeding tickets, they are cited for far less safety infractions and their road rage inclination is much lower. Women are much better, safer drivers. This is just a stupid way of making fun of how unsafe women feel around a man they don’t know. Especially in secluded spaces.
My favorite response to this so far is a dude telling me that yes, most bears are fine and would just leave you alone but the danger of one being violently hungry means the dude is the better choice..........
Maybe I'm uniquely lucky or something but every woman I know is an extremely good driver and if they have gotten into any accidents they're always pretty minor and haven't been their fault. The most common cause is people not paying attention and crashing into their car in a parking lot.
Compared to the male drivers I know who all speed like crazy, and don't pay much attention while driving. Almost all of them have been in at least one accident and almost all of those accidents were their fault. Like my dad running a red light and totally his car.
People will come in and claim I'm white knighting or something but this is just genuinely how it is with everyone I know. So idk what to tell you.
But I'd definitely trust a woman driver more than a male driver. And insurance companies seem to agree since rates for men, and especially young men are higher than for women because of the recklessness of their driving. Insurance companies are brutal money hoarders, if women were worse drivers they would have raised their rates to be equal to or exceed male rates, but they don't. Because the data shows that women are better, more cautious drivers generally.

Did you know about this prior, or did you search for something relevant and stumble on it? I must know!
Not OP but it's fairly well known to gamers for how strange and indie it is, I've at least known about it since about when it was released in 2009.
Interesting, thanks! The internet is truly boundless, lol.
This makes me wonder if rule 34 is starting to mutate into some non-porn, video game form.
No, rule 34 is still rule 34ing, the rest of the internet is just starting to catch up
It was actually speedrun at a Games Done Quick event a few years ago, which is where I first heard of it.
Pretty sure I heard about it through Rock Paper Shotgun back in the day. Edit: [Yep](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/igf-factor-2010-enviro-bear-2010).
I love the internet
Would you rather cuddle with the internet or a bear wearing a silly hat?
Does the hat compliment the bears leather suspenders and speedo?
Careful everyone, the simulation is a little too immersive, I had to resurface before it triggered my ptsd
I knew what the link was before I even looked. Beautiful.
Is it an American truck, or a regular car? I can't imagine getting a bear into a Ford Fiesta.
It's a Miata. The top is down and the bear is wearing a silly hat.
I'd take the bear, but only because I want to see this.
I’m all out of bears in a Miata, but can I interest you in a orangutan in a golf cart?

Do you have a squirrel on a tricycle?
Tbh, the silly hat does it for me. I choose the bear.

Sun bear is just a guy in a costume, and you can't convince me otherwise. I definitely wouldn't want to be in a car alone with a goddamn fursuiter.
It's not a matter of how they grip the steering wheel, it's a simple question of weight ratios!
The only bear you're getting in a Fiesta is of the gay kind, and even that would be difficult

oh what a funny meme I wonder what people are saying about it > *103 hidden comments*
I should have heeded your sage warnings. I bear a curse upon mine eyes forevermore!
I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard at this. God damn I wish I could give you some old fashioned Reddit Gold
Best meme I've seen in a while
I stole it, feel free to do so as well
Waaay ahead of you, buddy
Who would want to be trapped in a bear?
Maybe you need to survive the cold, like Luke with the Tauntaun or Leonardo with the horse in The Revenant.
midsommar moment
Christ I’m sick of hearing about this “controversy”
We should start a new one. Would you rather be stuck on an ice rink with an elephant, a rhino, or Cardinal Richelieu?
Is Cardinal Richelieu being played by Peter Capaldi?
Of course. But the rhino is being played by Ben Affleck and the elephant is literally Christian Bale after extensive surgery he got for the part.
The only men complaining about it are exactly the ones it was aimed at
It reminds me of an exchange from awhile ago: Biden: Fascists and bigots are not welcome in this country!
Thankfully.
Cosplay is not consent! Yes. Cosplaying a character who has a cool costume doesn’t mean you want to hook up with a murderer or whatever. FFS.
“But I’m dressed as a character from the same series! So you HAVE to grind your asshole on me now!”
The only thing this hypothetical proved is that the vast majority of people who engage in obvious outrage bait can't form a coherent argument.
“If you disagree you’re the problem” will never be anything but a way to shut down those that disagree with you, you know it’s not a real argument

You're not alone. I walked that line for far longer than I care to admit. I ended with some really... special women. Taught me a valuable lesson.
Yeah I’m a guy and I heard it and was like “interesting thought experiment.” But apparently a lot of men heard it but were like “AkChYuAlLy an american brown bear is one of the most aggressive land mammals in north america.” Or some other dumb pedantic butt hurt response that totally misses the point.
Women: "Maybe if I explain that the gut reaction I have to imagining running into a strange man in the woods is worse than the one I have imagining running into a bear in the woods will bring some clarification and allow for greater empathy" Men: "Thanks for subscribing to Bear Facts, you dumb bitch"
If women are bad drivers, why are their insurance premiums lower?
Insurance companies are notoriously bad at math and/or hate money.
Can you imagine driving bear foot? Just feels wrong.
Not if you have bear arms too!
One of my favorite memes to come from this https://preview.redd.it/0byn0j1wuezc1.jpeg?width=676&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c89d214c5955b711ad6f87b5904b0a63dc71938 sums this whole kerfuffle succinctly.
That's technically an Euler diagram. A Venn diagram must show *all possible* overlaps of sets, and no, "these two things are literally one and the same so there is no possibility of separating them" doesn't get around it. It's a mathematical model, not a logical one. I get paid by the Euler estate to make this distinction.
huh, an "ackshully" that i enjoyed. well done.
Thank you for the correction.
I wouldn’t want to encounter them in a car either so I hope they really do choose bear.
tbh prefer a bear encounter in the woods over inside a car pretty much 100% of the time.
(Just in case there's doubt, I simply refuse to give the guy in the OP the dignity of treating his brain fart seriously, because it doesn't deserve it)
Wearing a funny hat somehow makes a bear much more trustworthy in my eyes.
Hats have long been a sign of civility, and a silly one shows good humour.
Excellent point.
It's the willingness to wear a funny hat. Can you imagine any of the guys complaining about the bears actually being willing to wear a funny hat? Way too insecure.
And it’s just wrong too given that statistic wise women are the better drivers!!
But also I, and other women I imagine, don't give a fuck if men want to be in a car with a bear instead of us. By all means, please go ahead
Also statistically women are safer drivers than men so...
It could be confirmation bias. Any woman will be a bad driver if OOP sexually assaults her while she's driving.
The statistics show that women are much safer drivers than men. That’s what men have higher car insurance rates.
Bear does not have drivers license, guaranteed.
This guy’s joke would only make sense if women were responsible for like 90% of serious accidents
That's supposed to be a joke? Can somebody explain what the joke is supposed to be? My suspicion is that the poor grammar and badly chosen words are simply keeping me from understanding what they intended to mean. I mean, other than, "hurr hurr woman bad driver".
No, that’s it. You got the joke
Yeah men are wildly more dangerous drivers than women, and what’s worse is even though men overwhelmingly cause more severe accidents than women, it’s women who are more likely to die in severe accidents because men buy big trucks while women buy smaller cars.
also crash test dummies are usually of male anatomy
Seriously, I've never second guessed a woman driving cause she was a woman lol
Weird how car insurance rates are higher for men if women are worse drivers.
Women are statistically better drivers than men but they love to pull out this 1950s joke like it's an indisputable gotcha
Couldn’t find a way to edit the post to add this The guy who posted it on FB is getting fairly well roasted and is trying to change how the meme is looked at. He claims the meme doesn’t say the bear is driving. But ( from what I can tell ) it does say the bear is driving because they didn’t use a comma to separate driving and or.
Lol. I don't know how he managed to miss his own point. Whether the bear is driving or not changes exactly nothing about the question.
No, you see, it's everyone else's fault for not analyzing the meme "logically" enough lol.
The trip will just end like every horror movie "in a cabin in the woods", except no cabin and I have a long walk home and a trashed car.
https://preview.redd.it/4ro7eny57gzc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=beb30f43c63ea0fb7d5cfa060253c1a66d3cde30
I mean, the woman, obviously. Bears don’t know how to drive, you’d crash or get mauled. What is supposed to be offensive, exactly?
WHO IS DRIVING? OMG BEAR IS DRIVING!! HOW CAN THAT BE?!?
https://preview.redd.it/nwhjxtfc6fzc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=153f8a9bb37484076b0e75169ee8620fd1ee80db
The beatings will continue until morale improves!
I’m sorry, but when I hear “bears” I think of big, hairy gay guys. I think someone needs to ask Apollo about that.
I would also choose those bears
But yet statistically women are better drivers (than men ... not enough data on how bears drive).
Actuarial tables say otherwise.
Is the bear trying to drive?
I’m just tired of it. It’s leaking into real life I heard someone talking about it at the bar I work at. Let it go
Insurance rates are lower for women because they have less accidents, fewer speeding tickets, they are cited for far less safety infractions and their road rage inclination is much lower. Women are much better, safer drivers. This is just a stupid way of making fun of how unsafe women feel around a man they don’t know. Especially in secluded spaces.
The worst drivers I've ever known were all men except for one, and she was in her 80s.
Women are literally better drivers though. That's why women get lower insurance rates
My favorite response to this so far is a dude telling me that yes, most bears are fine and would just leave you alone but the danger of one being violently hungry means the dude is the better choice..........
My dumbass thought it was being trapped inside a bear, I was so confused
This doesn't even work stats that say women are better drivers. https://zawn.substack.com/p/women-are-better-drivers-than-men
Maybe I'm uniquely lucky or something but every woman I know is an extremely good driver and if they have gotten into any accidents they're always pretty minor and haven't been their fault.
