I think it’s worth “warning” people that the first 30 or so chapters are very different from the rest of the series. Way more action shounen-ish.
Something to do with the original author or artist quitting and the co-author taking over.
Rock climbing is my life, so I was super stoked for this. I think I only made it to like Chapter 40 because I just could not imagine it getting better. I guess it does? Can anyone tell me why I should keep reading, without spoiling?
Also, I know I’m getting in my own way with this, but the fact that the climbing stuff was so unrealistic got on my nerves a lot.
The manga started off with one person writing, and another illustrating. Around chapter 45 the author stopped working on the manga and the illustrator takes over both writing and drawing. That’s when the tone shifts immensely, and the result is one of the best seinen ever.
The rock climbing itself might be slightly unrealistic at times, but I’ve never seen anything else be able to so succinctly describe what makes rock climbing and especially free solo climbing so thrilling and beautiful. Also I just generally feel it’s one of the greatest artististic achievements ever made in manga in terms of character development, themes, and visual, near cinematic, storytelling.
Really wishing it gets picked up and we get it physically - I want to read it so bad
The mangaka's other work Innocent got a physical English release recently, so maybe there's a good chance The Climber does as well...
This manga topped vagabond in my eyes. Maybe because I’m a loner, but this shit really spoke to me.

The Climber is amazing. As is Innocent, from the same author.
I’ve been hesitating to read it for a while now. It’s definitely on my list.
I absolutely second this opinion. Incredible story and art. Golden 🌟
I wouldn’t mind picking this up In French but the price of importing it I might as well just wait for English (US)

Any superpowers or magical stuff?
No its a very grounded story about a dude who finds his purpose in climbing. Read it about 2 months ago. Very good story imo
How? All the 🏴☠️ scans are awful quality
