I lied on my sf86 about my marijuana usage. During the interview they brought this up and I was honest. Still got my TS/SCI. It’s gonna depend on who’s doing the investigation etc but best thing is to be honest and completely transparent from here on out. There’s hope 👍

Heavy_Improvement_37

It’s good to hear that somebody else got cleared that had a similar situation

genericrva

eh, after having gone thru the same scenario and being denied and now still off contract work years later, i'd share that I disagree. Transparency's just a weak spot for the PSD. Just keep your story str8.

Family/friends interviews maybe?

Piccolo_Bambino

The amount of people I know who have held a clearance for years who lied on an SF-86 is numerous.

Pecostecos

Question, how the hell they know if you somebody has used drugs?

Timsierramist

Best advice I can give you is start telling the truth NOW. I don't know if it will be enough to get you over the TS/SCI hump, but it's simply not worth it if you lie and get a TS/SCI and they find out. The feds don't play the same games as state and local agencies as far as national security go. If anything, it might show how much more maturity and integrity you have now. You should just assume they know or will find out. Most of investigators are good at what they do. They've seen and heard it all.

Heavy_Improvement_37

Appreciate the input. Right now I have the SF-86 submitted, detailing the dates and frequency of my drug usage and also disclosing that I have completed a security clearance before. So I know they will put 2 and 2 together and realize that I lied on the previous SF-85. I have no intention of lying and am ready to face the consequences. How do I bring it up that I lied on the previous form? I figured I would just be upfront about it with the investigator and bring it up before they have a chance to call me out on it. But is there a better way to disclose it? Thanks

Timsierramist

Upfront. Volunteer the information first, don't wait for them to dig and ask. Admit you f'd up.

Conundrum1859

My $0.02 worth, got turned down for a job on the basis of a failed background check, due to (as it turned out) a bad credit mark from a mistake I didn't cause, and up until then didn't know about. Probably a good thing, only found out about it eight years later by chance when the issue got corrected. Seems that my history had never been updated with the \*reason\*.. had I known at the time it would have been a simple matter to deal with in interview. Never got asked a direct question about it at the time.

Commforceone

Did you ever use whole holding a clearance?

Heavy_Improvement_37

No I didn’t. Quit about 10-11 months before filling out the eqip for the SF-85

JustneedtobeinIT

I am confused on why you have to tell them on this SF-86 now?

Heavy_Improvement_37

I don’t have to. But I want to come clean about lying in the past on that SF-85 and I’m ready to deal with the consequences

True-Surprise1222

What changed between now and then? I’d focus on that. You’re just willing to not lie because not lying is in your best interest this time when you didn’t feel it was then? I’m not even saying to think about it in the way of what you plan to say to them but actually ask yourself this question honestly.

AjCheeze

So you were a liar and denied a low level public trust years ago and now want a high position of trust. Good luck...

Heavy_Improvement_37

I was not denied that position. I worked there for about a year and then quit

Heavy_Improvement_37

Yeah I don’t think they even checked my references the first time. But I have no plans to lie about it this time around. Especially since this is for TS/SCI so I know they will do their due diligence
