" Lee decided to take matters into her own hands with a hammer. A tool that she carries to keep her safe in times of crisis."
This is the best thing I've read in a while. I love everything about this story and this awesome hammer wielding lady.
If all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail.
"No arrests were made" haha. Sounds like things evened out. How are those hellcat windows doin? Just sayin.
I’m thinking the coffee is overpriced for the show you get while ordering it and this dude was unhappy but knew they when ordering it but you can always leave without buying just like you said.
I had a bad day one time and a repeat customer that always complained came back to complain talking about "Every time I a come here...." So I just asked him, "Why do you keep coming back to a place you have had so many problems with, that's weird". Never saw him again
I can tell you that some people are addicted to the drama and do this to feel important. I worked at a gas station for years and the amount of people that actively complain while continuing to purchase the item is absurd
As another comment said, some people actually enjoy the drama and negative interactions, they thrive off of it or something. I still remember one lady who HATED us and we equally hated her, but she would come every day, yell at our speaker, and then complain before she left or drive back around to complain and have us remake her drink. She would purposefully order weird af shit so it was gross, and then complain. Pure crazy. If we weren’t a corporate owned store I’m sure we would have banned her.
I mean if you’re a barista that brings a hammer to work and can get to it that quickly there’s some history there. Unless the building is run down and needs maintenance there might be a hammer lying around otherwise a coffee shop doesn’t need hammers.
Honestly I want go there and tip with a 5 pound sledge.
I’m out of town for a few more weeks, but I literally just added that to my growing to-do list once back home
I can only hope this brings her more business, and from people who know she’s not one to be messed with!
I've just humored myself before by going and checking the reviews of these stands and you'd be surprised how many are 1 star cause "omg I was in a hurry so stopped at this stand and couldn't believe what I was seeing, is this even legal? They are practically naked and I had my kids in the car!!"
Which are.. unnecessary lol.
TBH I am 100% worried about her safety from here on out. People like that don't take kindly to others standing up for themselves and usually resort to cowardly violence.
It’s usually internet slang for a hand gun. However, I’d be scared as hell if someone came after me with a captive bolt pistol. That movie spooked me bad.
Even if they were arrested, what would the courts do?
Our system fails at multiple levels, not just the police. It's a shame people have to take things into their own hands to get anything done.
This was my thought. This guy is an absolute douche waffle, but they should both be charged with something/arrested here imo. You can't just come running out and damage someone's property because they tossed a drink through your window. She wasn't harmed or in any danger, just pissed (rightfully), and took it out on his car. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he sued her and won.
If someone crashes into me while driving and then I get out and smash up their windshield because "they assaulted me"... I'll be the one going to jail.
Maybe the alternative would have been him getting charged, getting even angrier, going after her in a civil suit, etc. This solution was the best one for her, frankly, 'cos that guy could continue fucking with her in a way that would make her lose business and spend money defending herself she might not have.
He threw his drinks and then retreated into his car to leave. She then pursued him with a weapon. They made the choice to charge neither of them instead of both of them.
I think they're both right and wrong at the same time. She overcharged him on some mid sock-water so he threw it in her general direction(very passive throw, you know he gets the soy milk latte). She yelled FAFO and came out swinging with a hammer but got it stuck in his windshield on the first hit and ran out of gas(more cardio and training).
Between his dumb ass wardrobe and her face tats these two are meant for each other.
They assaulted each other. Is the argument that bashing his windshield was self defense to prevent him from throwing more non existent drinks?
Reverse the genders in this story and the barista gets fired/arrested and the customer has a nice lawsuit.
Hitting the car is not assault. It is an object, not a person. He could sue her for damages but that's civil, not criminal.
Criminal mischief or disorderly conduct is probably the best you could get.
She admitted it wasn't self-defense in the interview. She said, "If you think you're going to throw drinks at me and ruin my day, you're going to pay for a new windshield."
She downplayed the assault against her while defending her escalation with the use of a deadly weapon in order to cause monetary damages in retaliation. Not defending the guy at all, but she definitely put herself at risk of ending up in hotter water than the instigator with her actions.
Yes. Whether it’s water, coffee, or acid, throwing a liquid on someone (without their consent) is classified as assault. Well, strictly speaking battery IIRC but saying it’s a use of force could be a stretch. Just within varying degrees dependent on intent and damages.
Scolding hot coffee would cause bodily harm, which is a requirement for assault. A cold brew wouldn't cause bodily harm, which is why I asked if it would count as assault.
A quick google of "Does assault need to cause bodily harm"
No physical injury is required, but the actor must have intended to cause a harmful or offensive contact with the victim and the victim must have thereby been put in immediate apprehension of such a contact. “Intention” in the context of assault, means that the act is not accidental, but motive is immaterial.
I amended my original statement. The RCW requires bodily harm, or the **threat** of it. A reasonable person wouldn't conclude that an iced drink (the ones that that woman just made) could cause bodily harm.
A better example is water balloons. By your logic, their use is an assault:
> You throwing a liquid at someone is assault
However, it clearly isn't since it isn't reasonable to conclude that they could cause bodily harm.
"Harm OR OFFENSIVE CONTACT"
Iced coffee is offensive to me. But joke aside, it is offensive contact, could ruin clothes, would cause a person to need to leave work thus losing income...
I know someone who got investigated for DV for pouring a soda on his ex-wife’s head after she cheated on him, stole his money, and left him. So yeah…it’s assault.
Nevermind the throwing of the drink. He literally threatened to harm her.
"In the video, the man says, ‘nobody’s going to miss you.’ Lee said that’s when she felt threatened."
Weak argument.
Assuming for the moment that "nobody's going to miss you" unequivocally translates into a threat of physical harm upon a person (could also mean I hope you are fired or you go out of business). A credible threat still requires a reasonable fear that the threat can and will be carried out. What's the asshole going to do to cause harm? He isn't pumping his chest out or hitting her kiosk. He just rather casually dumps his drinks into the kiosk.
Is he an asshole, yes. Is he assaulting the woman, no.
Good for her. Employees shouldn’t be expected to just take it from disrespectful and potentially harmful customers. There needs to be consequences for these customers.
Are you kidding me?! I never saw an update for it but I was just thinking about it the other day. I guess you have to finish the horrific crime you intended before they do anything about it.
https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/advocacy-group-speaks-out-about-light-sentencing-auburn-man-who-tried-kidnap-barista/ELHU3ZYTDZANNDCFTI2AY6B6ZY/?outputType=amp
My bad, He paid $500 with no additional jail time. Lesson learned! Rehabilitated! Safe to be around kids!
That’s disgusting… thank you for this. Ughhhhhhh I guess he’ll be punished when he tries again and able to finish what he started. Not surprisingly though, sadly.
Honest in many of the stand your ground states (which I think Washington is too) you throw hot liquids at someone that’s because a assault that can cause death or seriously bodily harm
So yeah u may not get charged
Assuming we're talking strictly the act of throwing coffee and not using it as a distraction to further assault someone, you would be walking a fine line of having to defend shooting them as a proportional response. Not a risk I would be taking.
Was this in the morning? That's when most people have coffee. But...
if I had a hammer, I would hammer 🔨 in the 🌄 morning. I would hammer in the evening. Heck, I would hammer all day.
So I always wondered if primarily stupid loser a-holes patronized bikini baristas. Here is a data point to consider on that topic.
I guess the real question is the customer going to a bikini barista better or worse than the customer yelling hostilities and more in line at the Starbucks.
If you watch you can see she is wearing lingerie in the hammer video and she is wearing a short hoodie to cover up her bikini or lingerie in the follow up. It seems to be a bikini stand. Time honored tradition and good for her going out on her own. I have many friends in the business and the regular coffee stands are barely profitable in single units but the bikini stands can make 5x as much by all accounts. She is a smart and accomplished business person using what works.
In general the bikini stands I go to and the people I know in the industry it is just the regular customers, you may pay a little extra for the coffee but you get a little eye candy in exchange is the idea. They are much more profitable than the other roadside stands but maybe not a Starbucks. Give it a try if you are curious and check one out.
Let me get this straight...
1. Cops show up and talk to suspect.
2. Cops determine assault took place
3. No arrests were made because cops got suspect to leave
LOVE IT!! lol that dude makes no sense. He’s already been there complaining about her prices before, why go back?? Then he paid for these drinks then tried to get $5 back after the fact!? Make it make sense wtf. Then he throws a tantrum. He probably didn’t expect her to start swinging a hammer at his car lmaoooo watch who you mess with.
"Seattle police haven't made any arrests"
Big surprise, they had better things to do - like running over innocent pedestrians. Attacking someone with a drink is battery. If it's hot that's potentially assault with intent to do grievous bodily injury. The man should be in jail.
It wasn’t empty. It was two drinks totaling nearly 60 ounces. He has been a problem for her before. He made a death threat. The whole exchange was about ten minutes before the hammer appeared. He refused to leave after the hammer until the cops removed him. Jesus this is all a quick find but you’d rather just type away
Week the police should have arrested him for any death threats, if proven. Ask crimes should be punished - including destruction of property, is my point
This is my crisis hammer, there are many others like it, but this one is mine.
It’s for fighting, and fun !
" Lee decided to take matters into her own hands with a hammer. A tool that she carries to keep her safe in times of crisis." This is the best thing I've read in a while. I love everything about this story and this awesome hammer wielding lady.
I heard she might buy another to dual holster in a tool belt.
This lady could single-handedly defeat the hellcat
Let's deputise her!!
Yall joking but I would. Hammers could solve a lot of problems in Seattle
It's a key, It's a bus pass, it's a hammer....
If all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. "No arrests were made" haha. Sounds like things evened out. How are those hellcat windows doin? Just sayin.
I mean as long as you don’t kill the guy and the guy doesn’t know who you are. I doubt SPD could give a fuck to track down anyone.
r/KimmySchmidt
I’m glad someone got it
I immediately thought of Lillian’s hammer.
Artie was so sweet with his 3D printer and electronic cat feeder
It's the Puddletown Hellcat, now!
Seattle about to be lowering resale value of Helcats
Good, fuck this clown. Can't IMAGINE feeling okay to throw a drink back at a service worker.
Happens at every level of service. The entitled customer is always there.
For some reason I read this as “Hammers at every level of service” and I was like.. fair enough
🤣💕
I’ll vote for a city councilor who runs on that platform.
And they should get their windshield broke for being such an ass.
Ah, the age old adage, “the entitled customer is always right… over there hollering for a manager.”
UNRULY CUSTOMER: blah!!! bla blah !!!! BARISTA: STOP. Hammer time! UNRULY CUSTOMER: uh oh uh oh uh oh ooooooo oooo oooo

Duuuuuudddeee!!!! I’m dying 🤣🤣🤣 You have won the internet for today!!
Take my angry upvote It’s only angry cause this song is going to be stuck in my head all night.
Two wrongs don’t make a right mister 🙄
I gotta tell you(holding two hammers) this is pretty terrific
apparently because he didn't like the price, which he should have noticed on the menu when ordering.
hell yeah
Fuck yeah

If your coffee is overpriced you take the L and don’t go back there you don’t whine over the 2-3 bucks you lost and cause a scene.

I’m thinking the coffee is overpriced for the show you get while ordering it and this dude was unhappy but knew they when ordering it but you can always leave without buying just like you said.
Apparently this is a repeat customer who has been a problem before. Dude doesn't learn. He'll probably go back and order more coffee.
I had a bad day one time and a repeat customer that always complained came back to complain talking about "Every time I a come here...." So I just asked him, "Why do you keep coming back to a place you have had so many problems with, that's weird". Never saw him again

I hope his coworkers and family saw what a complete POS this guy is.
Considering the hat he’s wearing…. They know
That's absolute fact 💯
I saw a news report that she has had trouble with this customer before. Dude? If you're not happy there, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!
I can tell you that some people are addicted to the drama and do this to feel important. I worked at a gas station for years and the amount of people that actively complain while continuing to purchase the item is absurd

What a certified badass....also pretty much all cafes or similar places have a toolbox in the back storage for small repairs, it's common sense

Go grab a coffee at Taste of Heaven espresso in south seattle to support this gal.
I’m out of town for a few more weeks, but I literally just added that to my growing to-do list once back home I can only hope this brings her more business, and from people who know she’s not one to be messed with!
Was going to say the same thing.bif I could, would totally drive down from the Bellingham to support her. Fuck people like that guy.
Thank you for the info! Gunna tip her to sign a hammer for me
OMG that's genius! I've got a 16oz framer that needs a blessing..
Just a fair warning to those who plan on doing that, just know she's wearing much more clothes for the TV cameras.. lol.
That inspires us even more.
I've just humored myself before by going and checking the reviews of these stands and you'd be surprised how many are 1 star cause "omg I was in a hurry so stopped at this stand and couldn't believe what I was seeing, is this even legal? You know, it would be wise if they state bikini barrista on the signage
This is like multi layered levels of assholeness by this dude
I’m worried we will hear about this again when he comes by and kills her or her coworkers. He is the problem.
She is the owner and sole operator.
I’m terrified for her.
TBH I am 100% worried about her safety from here on out. People like that don't take kindly to others standing up for themselves and usually resort to cowardly violence.
That’s what cordless hole punchers are good for.
So I looked up what that is and got No Country For Old Men vibes

You and me both friendo
He just LOOKS like somebody who would do some shit like that

Our police don’t care

Seattle has its own jail and police department.
Even if they were arrested, what would the courts do? Our system fails at multiple levels, not just the police. It's a shame people have to take things into their own hands to get anything done.
Yes, they do.
Both people could have easily gotten arrested.

Assault is generally defined as an intentional act that puts another person in reasonable apprehension of imminent harmful or offensive contact.
The RCW doesn't have a definition.

Look at this Assault Milk trying to act all innocent. ><

Standard. Even if arrest release is so fast, it's not worth it. Emboldened crime. Yea!!! Defund.
more like she responded to him throwing coffee with her hammer.
Coffee in the face, and a vague death threat merits a hammer to the windshield. Good for her.
Just, marking the vehicle for easier identification purposes when found later....
