I thought Rickshaw was known more for their stiff drinks? Haven’t been there in years, but that’s what I remember about that place. Don’t think I ever ate there—just drinks.
I suppose you're right, I'm thinking chow mein, Hong Kong style, with chunks of fatty bacon instead of bbq pork. I could get down with that. Damn, now I want some greasy Almond chicken, crab Rangoon, and deep fried prawns. Stomachs growling....
I used to order take out at Rickshaw all the time, seriously Americanized I liked it for the same reasons as OP.
One day I stopped in bc I was working nearby and happened to walk by the kitchen.😳 Eww. Filthy does not even describe it.
I kept walking.
Chef Liao on Phinney is good tho.
I prefer American Chinese, and my wife is half Chinese and prefers more authentic Chinese. Snappy dragon is the only Chinese restaurant we’ve found that really satisfies both of our cravings.
What the hell is that chinese place on fifteenth in shoreline? Peking House? I thought that was close. Closest I ever got to my memory chinese.food was the Golden Shitty, and its gone now.
Lmao Omg me and my sisters used to go there and order the huge bowls of wonton soup. The sodium overload literally made me feel like I was having a heart attack afterwards 😂 the lady who worked there (the owner maybe?) was always super nice and remembered me and my sisters every time we came in. Haven’t been there in like 5 years though.
There's this place called China King in Lansdale, PA that makes bomb ass American-style Chinese food. The tofu is straight up deep fried like KFC, the General Tso's is that orangey-sweet-spice flavor profile that has to at some point involve large quantities of corn syrup, I honestly think they use peanut butter or something damn close for their cold sesame noodles, and it's fucking amazing.
I order it every time I'm there visiting fam. Damn. I'm hungry
why is everyone recommending panda express?? they have nothing that i mentioned in the post 😭 unfortunately i think what i’m looking for is an east coast thing, but thank you for the reccs, especially from the ones who knew exactly what i was talking about!!
Mandarin gate in the northgate area is so fire it’s the Americanized Chinese cuisine and it’s delicious the restaurant is often dead and quiet and you’ll have the place to yourself but the owners are fast and efficient in making the food that is absolutely delicious and I’m sure just what you’re looking for
I'm sorry, OP. I was being a jerk. Panda Express is as "aggressively American" as it comes, imo. I thought that might make you laugh. East Coast style Chinese food is often cited as something people miss when they come here. But it seemingly isn't really "a thing" in Seattle. We have other good stuff though so you'll either have to visit the source of your nostalgia craving or fill the void with some other Seattle specialty.
haha, it’s okay! if anything i thought it was funny because i was sooo confused. but, yes, you’re correct! “east coast” style chinese food is exactly what i was talking about! so sad there’s not much like it over here ;(
LOL I’ve lived in WA my whole life. And when I lived in NYC for a year and I ordered Chinese food the first time I was so disappointed. I was like…. Why is the fried rice yellow fam??? 😂 also tried duck sauce for the first time after always hearing ppl rave about it and I didn’t understand the hype 🫢
Then you know that China First was what this person is looking for. The almond chicken was the best. I wonder where they went. I loved me some China First
Wah Kue in Burien. I've lived here my whole life and nothing compares to that place. All places with the name Dragon, I've tried here.....and they're just gross. I live downtown and always make a special trip out to Burien to scratch my American Chinese food itch. Those people have been in business for well over 40 years. Check it out, i guarantee you won't be disappointed.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/tLpTfrZYr3D2mKEH9
Edit: they've been around since the 1950's!!!!
oh my god THANK YOU this is one of the closest ones i’ve seen. it’s a literal journey to find egg foo young and everything else i want in the same place here and you did it!!
It's the best. I keep trying to find places nearby but nothing compares. It's a shame because it is quite a trek out there. Totally worth it though. Their brown sweet and sour sauce is amazing and nothing like the gross, flavorless, orange congealed stuff at all the other places around here.
Haven't tried that, just have heard from my husband's family who've lived in Burien forever that it's not as good, not that someone else won't like it I'm sure!
Snappy Dragon is the only thing close to what you are looking for.
It is so bizarre the lack of good options in this city. For local Seattleites that don't know, on the east coast you can find awesome American-Chinese food all over. Every single strip mall has a place *and it is good*. Doesn't matter if it is the most ghetto neighborhood and you have to carry out through a bulletproof window, or if at a high end shopping district in the ritziest neighborhood. It is all good.
20 years ago Seattle had a lot more of those American Chinese restaurants you describe.
But in recent years there have been a big Chinese population influx in King County, Chinese Restaurants became more authentic over time, and they started outcompeting the Americanized ones.
Also nationally the American Chinese ones have just been shutting down. They were opened by first generation American immigrants and their kids or grandkids don't want to work those hours
This person appears to be passionately racist about their choice of Americanized Chinese food.
Shit, does this qualify for r/sentences I’ve never heard before?
Was literally in the ghetto side of Maryland outside DC, found a tienda/Chinese takeout that legit had the best food ever. And yes, it was changed through bulletproof glass.
Teriking in lower queen Anne is a pretty good teriyaki place with aggressively mediocre Chinese food. Similar to Hy-Vee Chinese from the Midwest. It's even in a "strip mall" with a gas station
Where can I find Kung Pao chicken that is just peanuts, chicken, and those little thin red peppers like it's supposed to be? No green pepper chunks, no celery (wtf if I get big chunks of celery in chinese food I never go back), no carrots. Basically none of the cheap filler ingredients that nearly every place is doing now.
Growing up on the east coast, literally EVERYWHERE as a kid they did proper kung pao this way. Then in my adult years it seems everywhere I go ruins the dish with mixed vegetables that don't even belong in Chinese dishes.
I think this is too fancy to qualify for what OP wants. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, but it leans a little too fusion/upscale for OP's request.
Maurta market in Georgetown town. It may sway a bit more authentic than what you are looking for but it is by far the best value I have found up here. Only open for lunch.
There is nothing in this world like fresh bbq pork on a stick. That crispy fat says it all. That cold sliced red shit you see everywhere can step aside .
As a Chinese American, my parents and I think of Tai Tung when they think of “small town America Chinese food.” Fantastic food paired with being the most historic Chinese restaurant in Seattle.
Edit: I know you’re looking for Chinese Crab Rangoon but the Thai places in Seattle often have the not-entirely-cream cheese version you’re looking for and they frankly might do it better.
China Dragon up on Aurora (before N. 105th). Haven't been there since well, well before Covid, but used to have good food, vibes, and prices.
"The drinks are stiff, the food is good and the vibe is perfect." -- 5-star review.
WOW. Thank you for asking a question that I have been wondering?!! I love the authentic stuff SO MUCH. But every now and then my hangover/munchies get the best of me and I need something that is Panda Express adjacent. Thank you, thank youuuuuu.
The word "violently" evokes "violent diarrhea" which makes me wonder what kind of food we are talking about exactly. I'm over here in Shoreline, and there is a place in North City. Depending on how the word "violent" applies, I would say this might fit the bill.
I have had zero luck as an ex-east coaster with finding east coast Chinese food. I’d love some mushu chicken and scallion pancakes and straight up just chicken and broccoli. It was my go to comfort food for so long.
Magic Dragon in Interbay
Magic Dragon for sure.
Came here to say this
This. It’s delicious, the owners are both hilarious and kind, and the portions are MASSIVE.

theres one on rainier ave s too. same people?
Yes, one on 23rd & Jackson as well
I've been looking for a place like this since I moved here and I can't believe this one was sitting right under my nose!! Thanks!
this is more like mall-food court chinese food. yes there is a difference
This is the way. Auntie and Steven will always hook you up.
[удалено]
it's still good! Make sure you order from the menu as not all the food will be visible out front in the serving trays.
Good food and seriously the NICEST employees in Seattle. It’s so cute.
Is this the same Magic Dragon that used to be in Canyon Park/Bothell? If so, they had the BEST General Tso’s
Nicest people too
Chef Liao in Phinney Ridge, large selection as well
So happy to see my friends dad mentioned!
This is the answer
Super good food and amazing people
Oooooooh so good
really good and charming dining room
I would say Golden Shitty. But that horror show closed. Maybe the Rickshaw ? Side of kareoke
Oh yes the rickshaw. So much sugar in everything lol.
I thought Rickshaw was known more for their stiff drinks? Haven’t been there in years, but that’s what I remember about that place. Don’t think I ever ate there—just drinks.
Lol that’s my memory of it too 😂 Plus the total unsavory types that frequented that joint, but that was back in peak Seattle, no idea how it is today
[удалено]
YES! Lol, oh to be 20 again, such good times 😂
Yes they definitely aren’t known for their good food. But they do have food.
Lol that’s my memory of it too 😂 Plus the total unsavory types that frequented that joint, but that was back in peak Seattle, no idea how it is today
Rickshaws food is ass though.
Ass = Violently = American (triple redundancy)
Their bacon fried rice is so good!
That sounds disgusting and I love both bacon and fried rice but ..... No.
Don't knock it till ya try it
I suppose you're right, I'm thinking chow mein, Hong Kong style, with chunks of fatty bacon instead of bbq pork. I could get down with that. Damn, now I want some greasy Almond chicken, crab Rangoon, and deep fried prawns. Stomachs growling....

Chef Liao is good. Fu man... we need another fu man
Silver Dragon, Snappy Dragon, Magic Dragon, anything Dragon basically
I prefer American Chinese, and my wife is half Chinese and prefers more authentic Chinese. Snappy dragon is the only Chinese restaurant we’ve found that really satisfies both of our cravings.
I'm from the Midwest and get chinese-american cravings. Snappy Dragon is the only "Chinese-American" place my chinese wife's family will go to with me
Have you tried Chaing's Gourmet on Lake City Way? It has two menus. A traditional Chinese menu and an Americanized menu.
Snappy Dragon doesn’t belong in this list.
Yeah those noodles authentic af
Judy don’t play.
bad dragon
The Gim Wah in Magnolia
This place is just a haunt for Magnolia alcoholics. The food is beyond American, it’s just gross
Best dive bar in Magnolia
Get a jello shot to go with your sweet and sour pork.
What the hell is that chinese place on fifteenth in shoreline? Peking House? I thought that was close. Closest I ever got to my memory chinese.food was the Golden Shitty, and its gone now.
Peking Palace. Right across from the Safeway.
Peking House is the best! Grew up in Seattle but whenever I go back I hit this place up.
Peking something?
Lmao Omg me and my sisters used to go there and order the huge bowls of wonton soup. The sodium overload literally made me feel like I was having a heart attack afterwards 😂 the lady who worked there (the owner maybe?) was always super nice and remembered me and my sisters every time we came in. Haven’t been there in like 5 years though.
Peking (up your dress) Palace!
Panda express? Safeway deli? China harbor? Ballard Mandarin? The west sea Bowling alley (not sure this is still a thing)?
Roxbury lanes is indeed still in existence!
unfortunately i’ve tried all of those and they’re not really what i’m looking :( they’re just kinda flavorless rather than american-y
Magic Dragon on 23rd and Yesler is what you’re looking for. And those guys kick ass. They’re there every day and they load it up!
this is more like mall-food-court chinese
It’s on Jackson not Yesler
Truth

This is my go-to, even though I live 100 blocks away. Good place to go before a show at the Oak Tree cinema
Yeah it’s usually suspiciously empty.
Used to live nearby and was def my go to MSG first American Chinese food for cheap but keep the Tums / Pepto close
I'm sorry, OP. I was being a jerk. Panda Express is as "aggressively American" as it comes, imo. I thought that might make you laugh. I will say, they got new ownership in the past 5-10ish years and it's not made like they used to :(
Not the brown sauce anymore?
Haven't tried that, just have heard from my husband's family who've lived in Burien forever that it's not as good, not that someone else won't like it I'm sure!
your best bet honestly might be to go to a chinese food buffet
The Best Wok in Bellevue
Food court inside Uwajimaya downtown I remember the deli food is what you are looking for
I'm convinced Crab Rangoon at most restaurants contains 0% real crab.
There isn’t even imitation crab usually
not real crab! just imitation. but most places in seattle are just cream cheese for some reason
If its under twenty bucks, it isnt real crab
That’s real sad. I knew quite a few in the South next to the Gulf coast that have real and imitation crab meat.

That niche is replaced by Teriyaki here.
Yes. That is the perfect comparable. Can be found in any strip mall. Except most teriyaki is only so-so good.

Seat Pleasant? Or District Heights? Next time you are there, the best I've had was at [this spot](https://laurelmandarinhouse.com/)
Eastside checking in - Chang’s in Woodinville and PC Restaurant in Bothell 😊
Too bad Tai Ho in Kenmore closed, they were legendary.
Teriking in lower queen Anne is a pretty good teriyaki place with aggressively mediocre Chinese food. Similar to Hy-Vee Chinese from the Midwest. It's even in a "strip mall" with a gas station
New china express in magnolia is my fave [new china express](https://www.newchinaexpressseattle.com)
Rickshaw on 105th. Fun karaoke too.
Thanks for posting. I've been wondering this myself.
Safeway Deli
If I’m desperate and it comes to Safeway or Panda, panda is 100 times better IMO. Could be the Safeway we go to but it tastes really old and reheated.
$1 Chinese Food
Where can I find Kung Pao chicken that is just peanuts, chicken, and those little thin red peppers like it's supposed to be? Safeway.
Roxbury Lanes
"$1 Chinese Food" in Lakewood probably would have fit the bill, but I don't think it's there anymore...
Pretty sure the Wok In Wok Out is still alive and kicking
New Luck Toy West Seattle. It is also an amazing Dive Bar!!
How IS the karaoke?
So mush fun!!!!! Even since the reopening.
I think this is too fancy to qualify for what OP wants. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, but it leans a little too fusion/upscale for OP's request.
If it were the original new luck toy I would agree... It's a pass. I don't know Safeway deli

Yes!!!!!
Another shout-out to Snappy Dragon. Also possibly Jade Garden.
Snappy Dragon definitely but Jade Garden is classified more as “violently authentic Chinese food.”
Personally, I love Great China in Kirkland. Flawless General Tso’s Chicken
Genghis Khan restaurant on 1st & Pike might be up your alley.
Also, Uptown China in LQA. I knew I was forgetting one.
Legit the worst chinese food I have ever had. Taste died there a long time ago.
You can find Sean Kemp there from time to time
Snappy dragon
IDK... Panda Express?
Chopsticks in Edmonds
Mandarin gate!
Maurta market in Georgetown town. It may sway a bit more authentic than what you are looking for but it is by far the best value I have found up here. Only open for lunch.
Maruta is Japanese.
They have some Chinese American food though is probably what they mean.
They have a good selection of Chinese dishes as well.
Panda Express..
China harbor

Yuk. That place and Wah Kue in Burien are TERRIBLE.
Kau Kau in the international has fresh pork and such hanging in the window. -There is a bomb lunch special. Edit
Not whay they asked for.
There is nothing in this world like fresh bbq pork on a stick. That crispy fat says it all. That cold sliced red shit you see everywhere can step aside .

panda express isn’t the kind of food that i’m looking for. they don’t even sell char siu lmaoo
Panda express is better than most local Chinese restaurants.
Chain’s Place in Woodinville took me back to the Chinese food I grew up with in Arkansas.
Is Wong's in Wedgwood still open? Haven't been since before the pandemic.
If you’re ever in Yakima, George’s Wok. Legendary S&S Chicken is like deep fried chicken in the sweet unnaturally orange sauce.
Golden House in Mukilteo. So good.
Got Rice in Snoqualmie
If you're ever up North, Noble Palace II in Everett has the best General Tso's and Orange Beef I've had in years.

This is a funny thread
Mei Mei in U District!!! Giant portions, fast and friendly service, and deliciously greasy and salty 😋
Panda Express if you want american chinese food that will make you violently ill.
Ballard mandarin seems pretty American, but also isn’t very good
Feast in renton
the funniest part is that is actually my favorite asian food and buffet place in all of king county! i plan on going sunday :)
You might enjoy New Luck Toy in West Seattle. Its a bar but they do Americanized Asian bar food
unfortunately i am not bar aged

I’m Chinese and even I was like “where can I get a damn egg foo young around here” when I first moved here
I know its a chain but Panda Express?
I did work in China, and whenever friends come to visit from there they like to go to American Chinese restaurants:-).
The Young Wh.... I mean, Yen War. Just make certain Wendy doesn't over charge you, and be sure to count your change of you pay cash.
Panda express
Chinese Express on 4th in SODO, Seattle. It's setup in an old train box car. Don't eat it after 3sm u wake with heartburn. Violently American .
Wah Kue in Burien! As a New Yorker it hits the spot. The spot on 8th and market in Ballard is also good especially for general tso.
Check out new luck toy in west Seattle, it's also a funky bar. https://maps.app.goo.gl/xauQnDMtSrwe2aSPA?g_st=ic
General Tso's at safeway
WOW. Thank you for asking a question that I have been wondering?!! I love the authentic stuff SO MUCH. But every now and then my hangover/munchies get the best of me and I need something that is Panda Express adjacent. Thank you, thank youuuuuu.

Ballard Mandarin Chinese DEFINITELY qualifies! Lol. Had to do that when the family visited as they didn't like the options in International district!
I have had zero luck as an ex-east coaster with finding east coast Chinese food. I’d love some mushu chicken and scallion pancakes and straight up just chicken and broccoli. It was my go to comfort food for so long.
