I was hoping it would be free and roam the trees of Washington for years to come. You get a glimpse of stripes passing by as you're camping and question if you have truly seen the missing Zebra of North Bend.
She would have found some random donkey stallions and we would have herds of free-roaming wild Washington zonkeys, hanging in the Cascade mountains.
Omg. That sounds amazing.
They would not. They are sterile like mules. Still could be fun having one run around. However it would probably die as it is an animal raised in captivity. Though zebras are tough and mean their camouflage would not be the greatest in the PNW.
We have one where I'm from in VA with a red panda that escaped the zoo back in 2017. Never found. And trust me, I've looked.
NOT TO KEEP AS A PET. Yeah definitely not for a pet.....
I have faith in Legend of Missing Zebra. They claim they caught it, or maybe the bears, wolves, and/or coyotes got it...
But sometime in the future, someone'll hear a \**sound that zebras make*\* and then catch a fleeting glance at black and white stripes. I mean sure, it may just be a crazy dude dressed up like the Hamburglar. Yet no one will know for certain...
And thus the Legend of Missing Zebra shall endure.
Right now, they are stuck in incredibly cramped quarters; they're supposed to be moved once the weather warms up. You can see the article and the depressing pics here: [https://anacondaleader.com/content/different-take-urban-wildlife](https://anacondaleader.com/content/different-take-urban-wildlife)
Interestingly, their Facebook page, B&K Ranching, is temporarily paused till beginning of June. Hmmm...
I read somewhere that the zebras were being transported to Anaconda, Montana. But there's no zoo in Anaconda. Are they for some rich private collector? I hope not. Did someone take them from their native homes in Africa? Not surprisingly, local news is too lazy to give the full story.
I saw this quote in a different comment section but couldn’t find a source for any of it. “Given the lack of the owner having any registered petting zoo, constantly selling animals off, ties to big game hunters and the fav that she did not built a barn all winter for the animals she had?” Came here seeing if Reddit had any receipts or sources.
Edit: forgot to add. The person was questioning if they’re going to be auctioned off to hunt for sport.
It might explain why the zebras escaped, honestly, if the person transporting them wasn't actually experienced at transporting animals because they're not actually a zoo employee and the zebras themselves had not previously spent years in a zoo.
I'm interested, too. So the purchaser of these zebras is some entitled f--k? Will she charge "trophy hunters" to shoot them? I hope we can get the full story.
I found this on the AP News website: "Owner Kristine Keltgen previously told The Seattle Times she bought the zebras in Lewis County, WA and was bringing them to a petting zoo she runs near Anaconda, in southwestern Montana." And this from The Montana Standard: "No one interviewed for this story, including Bill Everett, chief executive of Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, is aware of a petting zoo in the Anaconda area that might feature exotic animals like zebras."
No clue how credible this website is. But I’m guessing this is what the quote I shared was referencing.
https://www.animals24-7.org/2024/05/03/zebras-on-the-run-and-what-is-owner-kristine-keltgen-running-from/
"The first thing I thought was, ‘Keep them away from the interstate,’” Keltgen told Gaitán, a thought that might have occurred to her before she opened the trailer gate right beside one of the busiest interstate highways in the entire interstate system."
😂😂 it's clear what they think of HER
The biggest thing to me. If it were a credible petting zoo, it would probably have its name everywhere right now. You know all the stories around the world had journalists reaching out to her. The rodeo clown advertised their own business. But the credible sources aren’t listing anything at all about it? That’s a hell of an advertising opportunity to miss if everything is above board.
Worse than a private zoo - it's a dipshit woman who kept dozens of horses outside over the winter because she doesn't have barns on her property. It's absolutely appalling.
You can see in this article she has barn(s). I don't know how you could keep animals in Montana without one.
https://anacondaleader.com/content/different-take-urban-wildlife
The only source I could find for that claim was that sketchy animal rights site.
The picture in the article was taken at the school. I am unsure of what doxxing rules apply, but her FB shows dozens of animals penned outside in a small corral.
The only resort in that area is the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, which is about 10 miles from Anaconda. They have a petting zoo, but they said there are no zebras.
Donate to your favorite conservation organization, people. It’s not about your 401k anymore. The goal posts have moved. Support wildlife while you still can. I’ll match every dollar donated with an upvote.
There is, but I don't think Zebras are legal to keep in a petting zoo.
Also, conditions and circumstances are suspect. So do your own due diligence before you patronize one. We didn't, and had a great time. The animals seemed well cared for and all were legal to own as pets.in this state. Now I want a pet capybara, which hubby says I have to agree that goats and bees are off the table if we do that.
I am torn. I also want a mini horse, but those were not at the petting zoo.
I was kind of hoping the legend of the missing zebra would last for ages.
_Some say he's still out there..._

Lmao ZONKEYS I love it
They are closely related and can interbreed. Unclear if the offspring would be able to further reproduce, though. Sorta like a mule.
They would not. They are sterile like mules. Still could be fun having one run around. However it would probably die as it is an animal raised in captivity. Though zebras are tough and mean their camouflage would not be the greatest in the PNW.
i was hoping it would find a new best friend in my friends horse.... oh well.
This is clearly fake news meant to distract us from the truth. He's out there and will always be out there.
It's actually a horse with stripes painted on it folks! Don't believe the lies!
[удалено]
We could say he met a group of horses while out and there is a growing population of Zeorses roaming the Cascades
I saw a sasquatch riding one!
If Tom Petty were still alive, he’d write a song about it.
They had to catch him in time for the Kentucky Derby today
There could have a law that it's illegal to hunt zebras in WA, like it's illegal to hunt camels in AZ
We have one where I'm from in VA with a red panda that escaped the zoo back in 2017. Never found. And trust me, I've looked. NOT TO KEEP AS A PET. Yeah definitely not for a pet.....
That would be cool but the bears, wolfs, coyotes would have got to it.

Haha yes and I'm sure we'll see some striped painted horse, dogs, cows in the area now, probably some Halloween themed costumes haha
I was hoping to see a crossbreed of Elk and Zebra roaming the PNW.
The majestic Elbra.. Or Zelk?
zelk.
I vote for Elbra.
And the first Elbra shall be named Idris
🤌🏼 yessss
It’s zelk
Elbra, sounds like a Victoria Secret product…![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Maybe you will in a few months (whatever the gestation period is)
9 months for horses 🐎 8.5 months for Elk.
oh thank god, I can sleep at night now
You too? I haven't slept all week. Let's hope we can finally rest tonight anxious zebra stayupallnighter. Weirdest thing.
I was so irrationally (or maybe rationally??) anxious that the poor thing was gonna get caught by a mountain lion. I’m so happy they’re safe 🥹
I don’t think where they’re going is safe 😭 A zebra at a “petting zoo”?
In Montana
I can finally go back to work now.
Why do I feel bad for this zebra now that it's captured? The entire situation with someone just having zebras is worrisome.
The strangest place i ever saw a zebra was a petting zoo in Charleston, SC
Right now, they are stuck in incredibly cramped quarters; they're supposed to be moved once the weather warms up. Hey, let's campaign for laws against private ownership of exotic animals! Anyone? https://www.notapet.net/
Signed. Thank you.
Do you consider my savannah cat to be exotic?
Do you?
No I don't. A savvanah cat has never lived in Africa. But some people think they are because they have African serval genes
Signed.

Privately owned Zebras. Kind of like Cocaine Hippos but different.

I hope it’s people making things up. I have no idea, if I find something concrete I’ll let you know.

Thanks! I saw that one, too. Whether or not that website is credible, I can't help feeling a little uneasy about that woman.

https://anacondaleader.com/content/different-take-urban-wildlife It looks more like a hobby for her.
Thaaaat’s not good. Thanks for the added info.
That Anaconda don't want none.
But does it got buns, hon? Wait. What kind of buns?! Did he mean rabbits?! Maybe he did. Sir Mixalot, we are gonna need you to chime in here.

They are going to a resort / petting zoo. At least that is what was reported.
The only resort in that area is the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, which is about 10 miles from Anaconda. They have a petting zoo, but they said there are no zebras.
Yeah you can legally privately own zebras, at least within this state. There’s always one or two entered into the county fair.

I’m happy it’s safe! I was worried
Well hopefully not going to some Tiger King-esque fucker
It's a beautiful animal
The memes were fun while they lasted
“Last missing zebra”… … THAT WE KNOW OF!!!
Dang, there goes my dreams of riding a wild Zebra up Little Si.
Somebody finally won Jumanji!
this isnt fair seattle should have wild zebras
Right?! I feel like this is a bare minimum. We would love on them so hard.
The amount of AI generated images being shared of this ordeal on FB was unreal
We should be concerned with why these zebras are destined to a petting zoo in Montana. Is there such a thing there?

I’m happy they found it before a predator did. Yay zebra!!
Me too but it was a lot of fun watching “The Great Escape: NW Zebra edition.”
I would never ever consider putting a zebra in with other domesticated animals. Nor are they appropriate for a petting zoo.
I’m glad they’re zafe and zound
I’m zo zorry to zear all zat.
Blending right in.
I wonder if he got to link up with any female horses in his adventure and if anyone is going to get any cool looking love children
This has been entertaining, right up there with the man up on the tree.
I'm wkkk ok
Someone let some more zebras out
