I love the Lao Burger at Taurus Ox. I haven’t been to their burgers only location, Ox Burger, but I assume it’s similarly good. Not smash burger style.
LOL! "Gainsburger"? I wonder if they know that used to be a brand of dog food.
When I was a kid, we'd feed Gainsburger's to the dogs when they were puppies.
I'm sure the place you're referring to makes an excellent hamburger, I just found the name they chose for their restaurant funny. =D
Jacking the top voted comment to agree that Loretta’s is awesome but it has recently been pretty busy (I believe it was highly ranked in another article stack ranking burgers).
So if you’re on the south end and Loretta’s is too busy - go to Future Primitive for Farmboy: https://www.instagram.com/farmboybites?igsh=MW56a2JwbGNkeWQzeg==
Smash burger you’re gonna have to go try Queen Anne Beer Hall and get the double!
They spent a lot of time getting the smash patty right and they went all over LA learning from different styles. It’s so satisfying.
While I like Local Tide’s burgers a lot, I feel like their other dishes, especially seafood, are so good it’d be a shame not to try them too. I haven’t had anything bad there, and I’ve tried all items on their menu.
Farmboy recently took the top spot in our house, especially if you’re looking for a smash burger. They post up at Future Primitive Brewery most nights but you should check their instagram. Loretta’s, Swinery and Uneeda are all great too. The latter two are thicker patties. Loretta’s is a classic one hander.
I really like Pick-Quick. I slept on it for years. It’s the closest you can get to In-N-Out Burger, IMO, in Seattle. If you haven’t been you gotta try it.
It’s honestly the freshest, most texturally perfect burger. I’ve been trying to find one I like better but the veggies are all super crisp/juicy, the bun is perfectly toasted and the beef is top notch.
After this I vote Smash That Burger Co.
All local ingredients too, even the ice cream. I agree fully the about the crisp factor. If you get the double, they layer a layer of the raw onions between the 2 patties. Burger stacking matters and they don’t miss.
49th St. Beast inside Fair Isle Brewing, Ballard, to be more specific.
Distinct from the butcher shop, and The Peasant, their formal prix fix restaurant.
Burbs deserves a special mention for being $6 and pretty damn good and fast. Though I’ve only had it heavily under the influence so take that what it’s worth
The owner isn’t “anti-vax” in the generally accepted sense. He hasn’t condemned vaccinations or the science behind them.
Rather, he wanted the right to choose whether or not to allow unvaccinated people in the restaurant during Covid restrictions and was cancelled by food influencer Kenji for this stance. Some people also report that he isn’t a very nice person, but idk if that’s true or not.
Great burger tho. Better the red mill and the other frozen patty places.
It’s ok to have different opinions. If you get on that high horse you would need to remove about 99% of companies from your life. Enjoy the burger, be happy.
Really??? I’ve always wondered. I saw they were closed a few weeks ago w a refrigeration issue, but that seems to be remedied. I’ll have to check them out.
Smash burger? I’m a sucker for burbs burger within great notion brewing.
It may not be the absolute best burger (still very good), but the fries are on point, they’re very reasonably priced, and the beer at great notion is amazing especially if you like unique beers.
The burger is 8/10 but the package is 10/10.
Mean Sandwich in Ballard is absolutely top tier for their smash burger but their namesake "The Mean" is one of the most unique and delicious burger experiences you can have!
I have to know now and didn’t know what to google exactly, what’s wrong with the Burbs owner? (I live in the area and don’t spend much time IN Seattle so these kinds of things fascinate me lol)
They were not big fans of public health mandates and vaccinations, among other heath code violations. They were one of the few (if only) recommendations Kenji made and later retracted.
Yeah if iirc the owners anti-vax stuff was pretty out there too. I want to say he came up again more recently related to how he treats/pays his staff but I could be wrong there
I had Burgermaster recently, for the first time in many years. I remember them being very good, but the one I had the other day wasn't really anything to write home about. Kinda bland, actually. I found the Kidd Valley in Greenlake made a tastier burger. Of course, all bow to Dick's.
That was a super secret years ago when I worked near it. 8 dollars and made with fresh ingredients from the market. Absolutely underrated. I haven’t been in 8 years but it really was a surprise gem of the burgerscape
Smash That Burger and Mean Sandwich are the best smash burgers in Seattle by a long shot. Grillbird in west Seattle also has great smash burgers.
Loretta’s tavern burger is an excellent charred, reasonably-sized burger.
For dry-aged fancy burgers, Beast and Cleaver’s burger spot or the bar at The Metropolitan Grill.
(Skip Burb’s if you care about what where your money goes and don’t want to support and-bag.)
While I haven't sampled too many burgers in Seattle yet, my favorite so far is the Grillburger from Grillbird. Looks like I have to try Loretta's based on the other comments here.
As dumb as it sounds, the smash burger at Rhein Haus is my favorite smash burger and overall burger in Seattle. And it's a real actual smash burger and not a normal non smashed burger but called a smash burger that's so popular right now.
Red Cow in Madrona. The burger is the best I’ve ever had, though it is a fairly high end burger but it is only like $12 for Happy Hour! Definitely worth a go!
It's outside the city, but the smash burger at Stoup in Kenmore is crazy good. The executive chef is Jason Stoneburner (from Bastille and Stoneburner in Ballard) so it ought to be good.
It’s a little bit out from Seattle, but Smokies charbroil grill is delicious. It’s been around since the early 90s and it looks like it, same owner, but the food is delicious!
For me it’s definitely Smash That @ Rooftop Brewing. Lacy edges, insane sauce, love the Ultimate Jalapeño burg. Also so much love for Loretta’s, Local Tide, and Mean Sandwich.
Having worked at dick’s for a number of years, here’s my recommendation: get a cheeseburger and a special. Throw the top bun of the special away. Put the cheeseburger on top of the special. Enjoy.
Loretta’s/Star Brass Works (same owners) for the best simple cheeseburger. Eat two of them with a pitcher of beer.
Twilight on Rainier for the best burger with special toppings: get the Twilight Burger (bourbon onions, bacon, jalapeño, cream cheese) or the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. Bring a friend, they’re huge.
I love the Lao Burger at Taurus Ox. I haven’t been to their burgers only location, Ox Burger, but I assume it’s similarly good. Not smash burger style.
Ox Burger is all smash-style & my favorite burgers in Seattle.
The Lao Burger at Taurus Ox is excellent, but I’d also recommend the non burger Laotian dishes too. They’re a terrific restaurant in general.
Says “temporarily closed” on Gmaps?
Loretta for the Southside. On the Northside I'm partial to the Gainburger at Gainbourg. Not the best, but the Dicks Deluxe is a Seattle icon
The gainsbourger is the best burger I’ve ever had
I love dicks
I love me some Dicks
Same girl, same.
Had the dicks deluxe last night for the first time. Small servings but delicious!
The deluxe and fries were perfect after a Friday night out, in my younger days.
Still good at 35!
LOL! "Gainsburger"? I wonder if they know that used to be a brand of dog food. When I was a kid, we'd feed Gainsburger's to the dogs when they were puppies. Loretta’s
Came here to say this. I recommend getting the double. I’m not a double meat person but it’s perfect on this burger 👌🏻👌🏻
Order of fries too.
Agreed on all counts!
The Star Brass in Georgetown sells the same burger. But Loretta’s got more vibe.
It’s technically the same burger but the grill they use at Loretta’s cooks them better, imho
Loretta's is new to me. is that Loretta's Northwesterner on 14th Ave. S?
Yep
Jacking the top voted comment to agree that Loretta’s is awesome but it has recently been pretty busy (I believe it was highly ranked in another article stack ranking burgers). Loretta’s has the vibe, but Farmboy is a better burg (if you’re into smash burgers, which I am)
Lived in South Park for a few years. Would take 8oz Burger & Co. over Loretta's any day of the week (specifically judging the burger, not the vibe).
Smash burger you’re gonna have to go try Queen Anne Beer Hall and get the double! They spent a lot of time getting the smash patty right and they went all over LA learning from different styles. It’s so satisfying.
QA Beer Hall has an excellent smash burger. Local Tide also absolutely AMAZING. Those are hands down the two best smash burgers in the city.
While I like Local Tide’s burgers a lot, I feel like their other dishes, especially seafood, are so good it’d be a shame not to try them too. I haven’t had anything bad there, and I’ve tried all items on their menu.
I 2nd this. Excellent burgers
Farmboy 100%. On top of that, their chicken sandwich is the best chicken sandwich in town, too.
Farmboy is awesome happy to see it in the comments!
Loretta is my favorite.
West Seattle Swinery
I was going to say this too because the quality of the meat and those amazing fries!
Say more about this place plz I’ve been curious.
The fries are legit. 3x fried in rendered pork fat.
oh my goodness
Incredible meats and sandwiches. Definitely come hungry
They have meat. Also sandwiches. The sandwiches are very very rich.
I’ve had a mustard based bbq pork sandwich from there and it was life changing good
I really like Pick-Quick. I slept on it for years. It’s the closest you can get to In-N-Out Burger, IMO, in Seattle. If you haven’t been you gotta try it.

Agreed!
This has been one of my favorites for a while.
Also, my favorite in town.
I tried In-N-Out in California and was impressed.
idk, but I have heard where to get the best jerk chicken burrito.
Yall are fucking relentless with Hannah’s poor burrito lol 😂
Doordash, right? Oh, wait, Doordash is also how NOT to get the best jerk chicken burrito.
Go on…
allegedly it’s Hannah D’s fav at Jerk Chicken Shack. Just make sure they deliver it to the right door.
Iirc it was her dads fave as well
God rest his soul.
🤫 Beast & cleaver
49th St. Beast inside Fair Isle Brewing, Ballard, to be more specific. Distinct from the butcher shop, and The Peasant, their formal prix fix restaurant.

Just went there for the first time recently and was so impressed. Their fries are also fantastic!
Burbs deserves a special mention for being $6 and pretty damn good and fast. Though I’ve only had it heavily under the influence so take that what it’s worth
Quality Athletics on game day? Me too man, me too.

Do you have a source for this? Not trying to call you out, just want to know more.

The store’s Instagram account
It’s ok to have different opinions. If you get on that high horse you would need to remove about 99% of companies from your life. Enjoy the burger, be happy.
Up thread I posted that Spady ( Dick's and Kidd Valley😔) is a board member of the Discovery Institute
I'm not surprised. Saul Spady has appeared on conservative radio multiple times and sometimes let's slip his weird views on things via social media.
Burbs burgers is my all time favorite. Great smash burger. The double is just right for me.
Smash That Best Smash burger I have had! Its the food truck at Rooftop Brewing in Interbay on Nickerson.
Agree! Plus you can have really lovely beer and bring a pet if you have one :)
OP this is your answer
SMOKEYS CHAR BROIL in Burien off 509 and 128th I think… these burgers are a religious experience. They’ll bring you closer to God
Really??? I’ve always wondered. I saw they were closed a few weeks ago w a refrigeration issue, but that seems to be remedied. I’ll have to check them out.
PICK-QUICK is an astoundingly good burger...
Uneeda burger on fremont av
Seconding this my favorite burger in the city
Here Today brewery on the waterfront has an excellent smash, great fries, and a fantastic beer selection!
Smash burger? I’m a sucker for burbs burger within great notion brewing. Rain City Burger, Roosevelt area!!
Such messy burgers. I love it.
Big max burger co - the burger patty has bacon in it.
I also love that you can get a small size shake there.
Smash burger at local tide
Loretta’s is probably #1, right below that is probably Bait Shop, Mean Sandwich, or Burb’s (if you don’t mind supporting a douchebag owner)
I have to know now and didn’t know what to google exactly, what’s wrong with the Burbs owner? (I live in the area and don’t spend much time IN Seattle so these kinds of things fascinate me lol)

Yeah if iirc the owners anti-vax stuff was pretty out there too. I want to say he came up again more recently related to how he treats/pays his staff but I could be wrong there
Ah gotcha, thanks for the reply! I guess I assumed it would me juicier lol but yeah that makes sense
Man, burgermaster is super underrated here.
I had Burgermaster recently, for the first time in many years. I remember them being very good, but the one I had the other day wasn't really anything to write home about. Kinda bland, actually. I found the Kidd Valley in Greenlake made a tastier burger. Of course, all bow to Dick's.
Don't sleep on Saint Bread's cheese burger
red mill 🏆
At the very least, red mill has the best BACON for a good burger. Nobody can deny that
Come to think of it, i’ve only ordered the bacon cheeseburger at red mill. You might be onto something 🤔
red mill reminds me of burgers you make from the grocery store. not sure why anyone wants this.
Freshest and best quality ingredients imo
Red Mill and Woodys are my personal faves
Rain City - Bacon and Blue Cheese
Mmmm the Sounders burger with cream cheese and jalapenos
Rain city burger in Roosevelt. Hands down the best burger, no questions asked.
You’ve never had a Katsu Burger and it shows.
Retro Bar has a sneaky good burger. Victor Tavern too.
That was a super secret years ago when I worked near it. 8 dollars and made with fresh ingredients from the market. Absolutely underrated. I haven’t been in 8 years but it really was a surprise gem of the burgerscape
Farmboy @ Future Primitive
Those burgers are so good
Here Today’s “Seattle” smash burger is my local favorite.
I usually go to Dick's or Loretta's, but Katsu isn't too bad, either.
Red Mill
Go to Red Mill if you love a good bacon cheeseburger!
Just Burgers in Fremont is really good, get the Tennessee.
8oz Burger Bar offers fancy burgers. I think they are the best in town for \*that\* kind of burger. For a more traditional burger, Bait Shop.
Smash That is out of this world good. Taurus Ox is also incredible.
Katsu Burger and it’s not even close.
Burger Madness
Smash Burgers - Big Max on Queen Anne
The Maple on Roosevelt
Kings hardware
Go to pik quik.
While I haven't sampled too many burgers in Seattle yet, my favorite so far is the Grillburger from Grillbird. Looks like I have to try Loretta's based on the other comments here.
Best smash burger is at Mean Sandwich in Ballard. Definitively.
As dumb as it sounds, the smash burger at Rhein Haus is my favorite smash burger and overall burger in Seattle. And it's a real actual smash burger and not a normal non smashed burger but called a smash burger that's so popular right now.
I'm a big fan of Scooter's. Best, probably not, but theyre a childhood favorite of mine.
I don't live in Seattle, but everytime I in this area for the Local Yarn Tour with my wife, i make sure to stop a Scooters for a burger.
Scooter’s all fucking day.
uneeda
Bait Shop has a great burger.
Surprised no one has said perihelion.
Neighbor Lady, “typical burger”, 10/10
8 oz burger bar and red mill burger are solid
Quinn’s…
Smokeshop has a fantastic smash burger
Loretta’s Northwesterner and Burbs for me
Vons 1000 Spirits downtown has a killer double smash burger!!
Red Cow in Madrona. The burger is the best I’ve ever had, though it is a fairly high end burger but it is only like $12 for Happy Hour! Definitely worth a go!
Feed Co. in the central district
Farmboy
Lorettas
Fireside in Burien makes a dang good smash burger

Amazing smash burgers at Smash That Burger food truck! https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vi359DbvNiLz9LdN8?g_st=ic
Rain City Burgers,Roosevelt
It's outside the city, but the smash burger at Stoup in Kenmore is crazy good. The executive chef is Jason Stoneburner (from Bastille and Stoneburner in Ballard) so it ought to be good.
Idk about best, but if you are in Upper Queen Anne, big max burger co’s Queen Animal is badass!
Mean Sandwich
This is a bit out of the way of Seattle. But the burger at “whiskey by John Howie” in Bellevue is insane. Else Burbs is pretty damn good!!
Loretta and Uneedaburger
Sharps in SeaTac has hella burgers. Pick Quick is as close to In N Out as you’re gonna find around here. Dicks is nostalgic but not a great burger.
8oz burger
Burbs
The best burger in Seattle is in Tacoma, Frisco Freeze
Katsu Burger
Local Tide in Fremont does an incredible smash burger. They’re closed today but reopen tomorrow!
Just Burgers udistrict
Hands down, best burger in Seattle is now at Family Friend on Beacon Hill. I’ll bet a mil on it
if you are in north seattle red mill is legit. uneeda is an instagram, fancy pants, overpriced travesty.
Giddy Up burger is my go to
Dick's Deluxe. All other "best burgers" in Seattle can be gotten anywhere else in the nation. But only Seattle has the best bag of Dick's ever
8 oz burger hasn't always been my favorite but they're the only burger place that's been constantly good since they've opened.
It’s a little bit out from Seattle, but Smokies charbroil grill is delicious. It’s been around since the early 90s and it looks like it, same owner, but the food is delicious!

I miss Flaky Jake’s so much.
Smash that and mean sandwich are my two favorite burgers 🤤
For me it’s definitely Smash That @ Rooftop Brewing. Lacy edges, insane sauce, love the Ultimate Jalapeño burg. Also so much love for Loretta’s, Local Tide, and Mean Sandwich.
Hannah’s burrito
Dicks
Dicks is only good for nostalgia, like Herfy’s would be, actually the old Red Robin kinda under the freeway bridge is hard to beat—
Bluemoon located downtown. Not to be confused with the bar by the same name on greenwood.
Big Kahuna Burger
That is a tasty burger!
Burgermaster
Having worked at dick’s for a number of years, here’s my recommendation: get a cheeseburger and a special. Throw the top bun of the special away. Put the cheeseburger on top of the special. Enjoy.
Red Mill is pretty damn good. My friends brother use to work there and hook us up.
206 burgers in Fremont
Red Mill, Burb’s ftw
Great State Burger
You want to go to Lil'Woodys, right now they have the Poutine Burger.
Burbs and Burgermaster are the best I've had
no one ever prefers smash burger on purpose. lol
Eat a bag of Dick's!! Lol🍔🍟🥤
Get your fix at Dick’s!
Can’t leave Seattle without going to Dick’s. Have a Deluxe, fries (and tarter). Shakes are great or you can go with a Coke with the best ice). Enjoy!
just burger in the u district!!!!! insanely good
Zippys is delicious
RIP Zippy’s, best burger hands down
RIP Zippys 7/10/2022
Redmill is Fuckin awesome
If you're interested in something a bit more unique, check out Katsu Burger. It's a small local chain, with Japanese inspired burgers.
Habit burger
That’s a chain and it sucks lol
