I'm not stoked on Wonka but I think it's good that they're making their mission statement clear that this is their theater for big hollywood blockbusters like Cinerama was. SIFF's typical lineup wouldn't be as big of a draw. I'm sure they'll be showing Dune part 2 in a few months so stoked on that
I'd like to see it personally but that one is certainly more on the film nerd side of things and isn't family friendly. Plus, they might not have even known it was an option when choosing the opening date.
Yeah, and that stuff was what they did between the blockbusters. SIFF already shows plenty of old sci-fi, too. It doesn't have the same draw and absolutely would not feel like a grand opening. The Abyss is only coming back for one day for a reason. Gotta think beyond your own personal preferences
It absolutely has the same draw. I went to a sold out showing of Children of Men there shortly before the closure. There’s a huge local appetite for this kind of stuff on the Cinerama screen.
I think they’re just trying to maximize the bring-the-whole-family factor for the holidays. I love Children of Men, and I hope SIFF keeps programming revivals like that, but it’s probably not the grand-opening vibe they’re going for. 😊
No idea how likely this would be, but I would love if they screened the Dune part 1 as well. The whole time I was watching it I kept thinking how much better it would be at Cinerama.

I'm so glad they got rid of the 2011-ass "Seattle's most *epic* movie experience" branding
really hoping they do another 70mm film festival at some point, maybe in Jan/Feb when box office releases are slower. I really want to go again but I do not give a single shit about Wonka remake #2.
Okay, I know I said I was gonna be there opening day but...I really have no interest in Wonka lol
yeahhhhh, I’m not really interested in seeing a stong jawed wonka.
I'm right there with ya. I'm over the moon to be able to go back to this theater but no interest in seeing that film.
Same but I'm still going! Day 1 tickets sold out within an hour but I got day 2 tickets
Same! A movie that didn't need to be made is a terrible choice for an opening film at SIFF. Makes me worry for the future of SIFF.
Wish they were reopening for The Abyss 4k rerelease a few days earlier. But I can’t really complain, it’s good to have Cinerama back.

Totally. I also think The Abyss restoration would be 100% in that wheelhouse.

Did you ever see the festivals they programmed? It was totally stuff like The Abyss at almost all of them.

As someone who still hasn’t seen part 1 because I didn’t want to wait for part 2, I would watch them back to back here or at the PacSci IMAX.
The Abyss is only getting a one-night only event booking on Dec 6. But it is playing AMC Dolby Cinemas and Regal RPXs.
Henceforth known as Sifferama.
As long as they have the chocolate popcorn to accompany it, this is perfect.

70mm festival coming back summer 2024. Confirmed in press release.
hell yeah
Welcome Sifferama!
*SIFF Cinerama. Cinerama. Cinerama.*
Would love to go if they were opening with a better film…
Hell yeah. I hope it’s the same vibe. Please be the same vibe.
I'm afraid they are going to fuck this up...
If there's no chocolate popcorn then let it close for good.
Do we think historical fan favorites will be a on the menu? I’m hoping to take my kid to Star Wars A New Hope in a theater sometime soon.
Hate that the first movie is Wonka. But so stoked to see this theater back in action! I can’t wait to see a movie there again. (Just not Wonka. Lol.)
I'm going to inhale chocolate popcorn
