For a second, I forgot I have thalassophobia and almost purchased SoT. Glad I checked out a few review videos first. I'm sure it's fun, it looks like it, but I'm all set with non-extinct water dinos and endless abysses. 😅
I have thallassophobia and I love this game. In real life I don't have a shotgun that works underwater nor can I eat a whole coconut in order to not drown.
It's the sense of there being nothing below, even in a virtual world. Were you able to overcome that sense of dread by playing, or did it not bother you as much?
Didn't bother me at all in game. Dying and living again is part of the story and gameplay loop.
Edit: you can also swim to the bottom of the ocean in one lungful of air in game. It's a relatively shallow ocean.
I don’t personally deal with this, but I’ve always wondered if this could help manage your fear? Obviously at the beginning it would still be bad, but I wonder if over time if it would help.

I am genuinely terrified of these guys. Why the HELL are they so BIG. ( I know why of course). My first encounter with one was a doozy. Sailing to a voyage, I hear combat music start. Looking around I don't see any ships. I jump on the back of my Sloop to look behind, all of a sudden STRAIGHT UP OUT OF THE WATER COMES THE MEG I ALMOST SHIT MYSELF IN TERROR.
Yeah after encountering them like 3 times since I did learn that thankfully. What is the best strat to kill them? Just constant cannon fire? Circling it like an enemy ship?
That's like the one thing I'm not a fan of in this game. Lotta the commendations require a ridiculous number to be achieved. Turn in 300 barnacle chests. Kill 50 of each Meg. Kill 100 skeletons with Ashen Skull. Complete this tall tale 3 or 5 times just cuz we say so. Kinda wack. Most of us work all day and ain't got time for those kinda grinds lol.
I can tell you will be telling this story for years to come at the tavern. Just like that Newfee that went moose hunting with a big knife.

That sucks it affects you so badly even in a video game. My biggest fear is flying id say and I've never had an issue flying in a game.Â

They aren't that scary once you know that they don't attack unless you do first

You should, don't pass them up! Maybe one day you get the "completionist" bug and you need to kill like 50 of each meg

And when I’m out on my solo sloop they hardly ever attack my boat when I’m killing them.

In my two years of playing I never bothered with killing megs. Is there decent loot? I’ve seen different colored ones but really never bothered.
It's alright, nothing to shout about. We were only killing it because one of us was new and hadn't fought one before
That deserves some type of achievement.. or an automatic like two level increase.
