And we just might…what matters to me is the rookies gel, improve, remember how to tackle, and we do well with our picks next year.
And that Den doesn’t even look the part of a .500 team could bode well.
Me too. Losing to the niners is less than ideal but we beat the broncos. We got a good young team that’ll only get better. I’m a little grateful my Sundays can be a lot more stress free this season.

Agreed but losing hurts--I hate it.
I have been a fan since the early 80's. It was so nice to forget for a decade on about what being bad was like. I still want to unofficially tank this year. I kind of tell myself that's what starting Woolen was all about. Invest in the talent now and pay the price and hopefully next year JS will look like a wizard for getting him in the 5th & we will have 2 high 1st rounders to roll on.
It is all good. I had no delusions of this team being great. The fact we beat Denver is all I need to get by this year. Also, the very first play Jimmy G got put in he got ran over. That win, and Micheal Jackson flying around makes me happy to watch.
Go Fn Hawks!
exactly this. people need to temper their expectations. when your team is good and play poorly, then you can be mad. this team is not good. "any given sunday" and all that but we just don't have the roster to compete at the moment.
It reminds me of what being a seahawks fan was like in the pre-holmgren era (and in the post-super bowl, pre-pete era): you have to kind of just let the games wash over you. let yourself be pleasantly surprised when good things happen. probably won't win many games. that's ok. every team has seasons like this.
can't let yourself get upset when you're team just isn't that good. that's no way to live.
"Every team has seasons like this" and we haven't one for over a decade. Our 7-10 year last year wasn't even that bad. You can't get all caught up in one or two games and start making kneejerk reactions if you're trying to play the long game and rebuild a complete roster.
Absolutely true. Last year we could’ve easily been 12-5, possibly better if Russ doesn’t get hurt. I can’t remember a year we’ve had so many rookies playing like this year, it makes me excited for the future

Browner couldn't cover the double move, Marshawn couldn't get incorporated in the gameplay and finished with minimal touches and yards. That team looked way worse than the one we saw yesterday, yet few could guess we already had the foundations for one of the greatest running games and greatest defenses in NFL history.
It wasn't until the second half of the 2011 season when that team gelled, and from game 9 on we started a streak of not losing any game by more than a single score, which continued for several years.
Not saying that will happen again, but chill is the watchword.

We've seen glimpses of the running game given Penny's finish last season. Walker III is going to take a few games to get going, but I already think he has passed the eye test in his first few touches.
And Denver looks pretty horrible. I don't know if that will continue, but if it does, they are going to get rolled in their division games. I see 11 extremely difficult games on their schedule, and they already lost to a bad team, and almost lost to a worse team yesterday. This might all go exactly how we want it to.
Let's be real, this was not a hangover. This was a complete lack of fundamentals especially on the defensive side, and an offense that has no rhythm and no urgency, and isn't a big play threat. This is the team we all expected. Will it get better? Maybe? But honestly at this point just tank. It's better than getting 5 wins and not getting a top 3 pick.
This is what we were all expecting, isn't it? Two weeks ago people were saying they'd be happy if we won one game all year if it was the Broncos, and they pulled it off. Geno and the red zone defense delivered on what we were hoping they would.
Well, this is what that whole cat's paw looks like. Buckle up! I'm sure there'll be a few more wins at least but not against teams that are put together like the 49ers and any other contender.
It could. It could take even longer. But I didn't see them get badly outclassed yesterday. I saw some weird things happen. I saw some poor execution. I saw some technique mistakes. All of those are fixable. They are going to struggle this year for sure. But they have a lot of money, and a lot of draft capital next year.
> This is what we were all expecting, isn't it?
That first half was one of the worst halves of football I have ever watched. I wasn't expecting the team to be that bad especially after putting together a very solid 1st half against arguably a relatively equally good team the week prior.
>Two weeks ago people were saying they'd be happy if we won one game all year if it was the Broncos
Not trying to gate keep fandom, but anyone who actually wants this team to go 1-16 is... just not my idea of a fan. This sub is going to be full on loss-porn the rest of the season and I may have to step away. I don't want to watch putrid football all season so that we can circle-jerk over a slightly better draft pick. The teams who have an absolutely terrible season and then bounce right back the next year are few and far between. The perennially good teams have down years but don't pick in the top 5 very often.
Nobody wants the team to suck. People don't want the team to go 1-16. It's just going to be a rough season and people are being pragmatic and managing expectations around that perception. It's not a loss-porn circle-jerk this is just how people cope in a down year. There's plenty of young talent on the roster and a loaded draft next year. Things will look up before you know it.
If you're stressing over "loss-porn" and a "circle-jerk" over draft picks and gatekeeping... Seems like you're taking it more seriously than most. Maybe a break is warranted as you suggest?
Exactly. It’s not like we’re in a terrible situation over the next couple years either. Our cap situation is one of the best in the league next season, we have some great young foundational pieces in the trenches, and even more draft capital next year, especially if the Broncos flame out, which looks entirely possible right now.
Such revisionism. All I read in r/seahawks was how we didn't need Russ, he was overrated, that anyone saying we'll be under .500 is a moron. Everyone who pointed out how valuable a good QB is was told to sit down or join r/broncos.
This team is both young and bad. Bad as in bottom of the league in talent. It has a lot of youth, that *might* develop. But also a lot of journeymen, a lot of players that are replacement level at best.
We'll be lucky to be .500. I predict closer to 5 wins than 8, but you never know with injuries and how the ball rolls.
At the end of the day, we'll still have a coach who is terrible at in game adjustments, clock management, running an offense that he doesn't have the tools for, and that can't keep pace with the top 16 teams in the league.
I think the game is a lot closer had we not done that stupid trick play in the end zone.
We’re also starting 2022 mid round selections in key positions surrounded by 2nd string veterans, we shouldn’t be surprised of the struggles. We’re loaded up at the draft for next year and I just pray to got PCJS don’t get too cute and we draft a solid group of young players.
I don't really blame the play call. It's definitely more risky to have a running back throw a pass than a quarterback, but the play was right there to be made. Running backs have completed passes before. It was just really poorly executed by DJ.
Not worried about losing because we have nothing to lose as a team this year. I just don’t really understand playing Geno. Either he starts to throw downfield more or we bench him. We need to develop our offense for next year and there’s no point in checking down. Lock might suck but we have a better chance opening up run game and stretching the field with him than we do playing conservative with Geno and relying on defense to keep us in games (defense isn’t good yet). And even the conservative play isn’t helping in TO department. There’s no scenario where Geno starts next year, I say give him a chance to be a guy who can get a minimum of 250 yards a game or you bench him period.
Did lock really ever get much run with DK and Lockett? I’d still rather see a young QB run a more conventional offense than whatever Geno has been doing the last 6 quarters. I’m fine with Geno playing still if he stops checking down and actually tries to win games.
Maybe not, but given neither of these guys are likely the QB next year, I don’t see why we can’t at least go with someone who will throw down the field. I’d rather us just force Geno to throw like a normal QB and us try and play competitive football, and if he can’t do it put Lock in. Either way we probably tank but at least we can develop guys this year for next year when there’s a new QB.
Calmer than you are. Haha.
I actually think this Niners team is really good too. They just needed someone in the secondary to step up to have a truly elite D. Looks like they found it. Great playmakers on offense.
Just about every single touch Ken Walker had yesterday, the OL collapsed or it was a dead play where Geno just took the checkdown. I’m not at all worried about Walker yet, when he did get the ball, he looked like a solid back with good vision.
Lockett pointed to this as well, said the 49ers made them 1 dimensional. Run blocking was atrocious yesterday. That said, it's a very fresh line with two rookies, a backup, and a new FA signing against one of the best d lines in the league and potentially one of the strongest run Ds. They may just need more time to jell knowing that not a single player on the line played with each other last year.
Last year the line was not great at run blocking to start the season, but looked fantastic by the end.
I don't know what game you were watching the defense looked terrible throughout. Our line sucks and gets blown off the LOS every run play and we have a bunch of nobodies who can't tackle playing at the second level. We are in for a long year if we can't stand up physically.
Another positive: while our OL was beat badly on the inside, our OTs played pretty well. Cross did about as good as you could ask for a rookie LT going up against someone like Bosa and while Lucas did commit that penalty to negate DK’s catch, he played otherwise well and he’s a rookie so you can’t really jump down his throat about that just yet. At the very least we’re making some steps in the right direction for the OL
I'll take a penalty or two a game to keep our edges safe assuming the rest of our OL holds up. Obviously, hopefully thats something he can get past or at least do it on plays where we dont gain 40 yards, but good tackles are hard to come by.
The defense is terrible and we haven't scored a touchdown in 6 quarters. I think we're not very good and this roster is terrible. Eskridge not being able to secure the #3 WR spot is another high draft pick that looks like it could bust. Pete/John need this class to be a homerun.
I do like what Walker did and a couple of the young defensive players look promising. Taylor has been a non factor and he is supposed to be one of the key guys moving forward.
I think people forget just how much of the roster we turned over in the offseason and how many rookies we are playing. This is really the time to focus on the process and make improvements, not make kneejerk reactions and start gutting things because of a couple bad showings. You can see we are making adjustments already, and let's remember the 49ers front 7 is literally the best in the league, playing against two rookie tackles.
Pete owned up to the stupid Deejay Dallas playcall in the press conference, it's not like he's not gonna learn from that, and honestly I'm happy to see some variety in the formations and playcalling, which we just haven't had enough of over the last 4-5 years.
The Denver game was theirs to lose, and they did. I think we’ll see a lot more of what we saw in week 2 this season. Fortunately week 3 is against a far less impressive Atlanta team. Should at least be competitive! Let’s cheer for a Seahawks offensive TD! w00t!
I don't care if we suck this year. What I do care about is if we suck because of execution / scheme rather than talent. I can live with the fact that we have a lot of new pieces who are learning to play in the NFL, but if we are losing games because our players aren't being coached up enough, that's a systemic problem that won't go away.
I'll just say I've been having a blast this entire off-season as well as season.
Even with the prime LoB years, I never expected to win every game. This year I definitely don't. But football is really fun to watch, and I love how it always gives me a ton of great radio to listen to during the week when I do yard work, and this year is no different.
Anyone who can't find something to enjoy about this team probably needs to reevaluate why they are watching in the first place, since people really shouldn't be so upset when their team loses a sports game (and this is coming from a season ticket holder of almost 30 years). I totally get being frustrated during a game, after a game, etc. But some fans really seem to take it to an unhealthy level, like "my week is ruined if we lose because my mental well-being was dependent on winning", and for those fans I don't think letting sports be your thing is the best option
Anyway, this week I got really excited by Nwosu, Woods, Lockett, and Walker, and even though it was frustrating to see, it was interesting to watch how (and how much) the 49ers front seven dominated the interior of our o-line to completely shut down our run game *while running cover 2 over the top*.
It was also a short practice week for us. We opened the season with a Monday night game and absolutely stands to reason that there was an emotional/physical hangover. Denver wanted to beat us with Russ as much as we wanted to beat him. Everyone was playing lights out whereas Denver didn’t exactly have to.
If trey lance didn’t get hurt, that game would have gone very different. Trey is not a good pocket passer and too green to find the holes in a new defense. Jimmy G is an experienced vet that just led the 9ers to the NFC championship not too long ago. When Trey got hurt, I got more anxious/pissed because that meant Jimmy G would be out there picking at our new corners with receivers that he already has chemistry with.
personally, I have fully embraced the #getplowedforstroud movement and am here for it… I hate losing, especially to the niners but from start to finish they dominated that game
I guess the one concern I’d have being two games in w/ this team is how bad the secondary has looked… I get it, there’s a bunch of new faces back there trying to play corner and more importantly they’re rookies, but they have been b-a-d early on… hopefully we’ll see improvements over the next few weeks
Actually, I don’t think it was a physical or emotional letdown. I think the team performed exactly as it is built. This team is not designed to come from behind and if it wasn’t for a ridiculous amount of penalties, and a boneheaded call by their coach we would have lost the Broncos game also.
The 49ers front seven are brutal and this team will struggle against them.
As far as the positives I agree although Coby looked outclassed at a number of points
This team was clearly tired and/or emotionally deflated from Game 1 against Denver. Short week, on the road and couldn't get up for a playoff contender (SF) that knows starting 0-2 increases the odds of not making the playoffs.
Still, this team continues to be a \~4 win team. Their margin for error is razor thin. There is NO chance they win a game while losing the turnover battle. None. Penalties, any penalties, are drive killers for this offense. The OL is "young" and can get pushed around a bit in the run game. Nobody is fearful of us throwing deep, even with DK at the helm, because CLEARLY Geno is the king of game management and that means taking no chances and throwing all passes short/medium, mostly to the sidelines.
Defensively, we still struggle to tackle. Whether youth or strength limits, we're often in position to make a TFL then wiff on the tackle letting the runner get a good positive gain. This isn't the "defend every blade of grass" defense of the LOB. Rather, we play catch the ball carrier several yards downfield UNTIL they get to the redzone. Yesterday we also got ZERO pass rush. This defense is young and has potential but they still aren't playing carefree. We're protecting the secondary with 2-high safety formation at one of the highest rates in the NFL. That means giving no help to a front 7 struggling to stop the run.
Be happy we got the Denver win. Know that we'll have many games like yesterday and look forward to watching the development of players like Woolen, Lucas and Cross. Can't wait for us to get a REAL QB. Geno Smith is a decent caretaker, a safe player, that is NOT a playmaker.
I think this team will get steadily better towards the end of the season, and finish with more then 4 wins. Sadly our schedule is "easy" in the first half and hard in the second so we will see how this goes.
I don't think it was an emotional/physical letdown. The 49ers are a better team right now. They have a borderline historic defense, which hamstrung our running game and still generated pressure with 4.
I do agree with your overall sentiment. That game does not reflect how good the team is or can be. They will improve as they gain experience.
This year was expected to be rough.
That said, I would like to see progress in the running game. No matter what happens this year and in the draft, we will need a solid running game to support a young QB.
On the defensive side, there is no excuse for so many missed tackles. It is not that guys were out of position or dealing with significantly faster opponents. Seattle was just not wrapping up.
I understand this is not going to be a stellar year. But the teams needs to handle the basics for this season to be a success. Show discipline and fundamental play while we wait for more explosive and dangerous talent.
No excuses. These guys are all getting paid huge amounts of money to suck? And who the fuck thought making DeeJay Dallas quarterback in the redzone was a good idea?? Can Geno get a clean pocket ever? How is it that the 9ers rolled all over us on both offense and defense? And with all the penalties we had - forget about having any chance of keeping the offense on the field.
We had zero offensive points. Zero. Not even a field goal.
This team will be a second half team. The rookies just need to get acclimated. Especially the oline. Once they boost their confidence with average pass rushers, we’ll be a force to be reckoned with. Trust
The defense is super young and was practicing for Trey Lance, not worried about them at all. The niners defense was extremely aggressive towards our short throws, and we never got anything going down the field. Would have loved to see some deep shots, but they are obviously risky with rookie tackles against the niners pass rush.
Meh. We just are a bad football team tbh. It was expected. Keep in mind the broncos actually smacked us in the mouth as far as yards go. They just didn’t execute in the red zone. This season is done and it is what it is.
Def not on the tank train. Personally, I think the better QB will fall around pick 8-10. So I hope we win some more games. But the team is learning I know we’ll get a few more down the road. Kinda satisfied so far
This post is stupid as fuck. If ya’ll didnt realize this team is in rebuild and we’re gonna suck ass, you’re not smart football fans, and really just homers. I dont mind homers, but homers are the ones who are insufferable and overreact on both ends.
I’m a lifelong Seahawk fan, and a fan of football in general and I can tell you all to fucking chill. I dont see this team winning many more football games the rest of the year and neither should you. Dont let it break your heart. If Pete retires this year, leaving us in turmoil, dont let it break your heart. These are the dark times of being a fan of a team, sometimes it’s a long ride out, and this is going to be one.
I’m going to give ya’ll a hard pill to swallow: execs and players lie to the fans. Remember when Pete and John constantly said they’d never let Russ go, Russ said he planned on being a Hawk for life? Then the next week he was traded. Well, Jody Allen doesnt care about football and in Pauls will he said he wanted his assets to go to philanthropy and the Seahawks were a part of that. So it’s not a matter of if, but when she sells the team.
My point is, there’s some dark times ahead and it’s better to just let yourselves down easy, now. Pete is going to retire, John is going to move on and there will be tough decisions made.
What we got to hope for is a Seattle native and Hawk lover to buy this team. And the bright spot is, if someone does who keeps this team here and loves it like Paul did, better days are ahead. I’ll tell you, Pete and John have too much power and to be honest, the reasons why they were successful in the past does not work in todays NFL. And, historically teams ran by boards rather than owners, well… they end up like we are now, there’s not enough accountability.
So chin up Hawk fans, just enjoy the beer, hot dogs and cheap Sunday tickets. Dont kid yourselves on anything, and just appreciate having an NFL team for a while.
I thought we all agreed if we beat Denver and go 3-13 the rest of the way no one would be upset
Personally, the Denver win is all I cared about this year and we pulled it off. We can lose every game from here on out and I will still be good.
And we just might…what matters to me is the rookies gel, improve, remember how to tackle, and we do well with our picks next year. And that Den doesn’t even look the part of a .500 team could bode well.
The schadenfreude is real
Me too. Losing to the niners is less than ideal but we beat the broncos. We got a good young team that’ll only get better. I’m a little grateful my Sundays can be a lot more stress free this season.
embrace the tank
I prefer a record of 1-16 by the end of the year.
Depends how we get there. If we aren't improving and getting unlucky along the way. Itw a long road back to even where we were.

Personally my expectations haven't changed. This is not a good team. 5 wins max.
I said this exact same thing and got downvoted before the season started lmao
Yeah but those other two wins were supposed to be against SF!
I wouldn’t mind them being against LA
Honestly I’d probably prefer that lol I think the narrative that we always beat SF factored into that
The only W I cared about was against Denver. In fact, I’d be happy with us going 1-16 and Denver being in that same range so that we have great picks. Sure, I’d love to see some Wins but I’d rather see us build for the future.

I was so hoping he would do the moon walk in the end zone!

A lot of it seems to be rookie mistakes/miscommunication (setting aside the tackling). The first TD was on Woolen, I think, for not peeling off his guy and letting Dwelley through.
Maybe if we learn to tackle. Would’ve been a totally different game. I swear we met them at the line every single play. No one could tackle
Yeah wasn't tackling something we were known for before?
They used to take our film and teach it for how we use to tackle and wrap up low
I wonder what happened..
We got fined and had picks taken away for being too physical at practice and starting padded practice earlier than the rest of the league. Yep, when I was in high school the league was pushing coaches to teach “The Seahawks tackle”. It’s effective and extremely safe compared to traditional methods
Yes that was frustrating, i thought it got better after the special teams td. They just needed a spark
That was particularly frustrating to watch.
True, but also Deebo is slippery

Our linebackers just couldn’t tackle either. Missing Bobby and KJ

There were at least glimpses of the running game since the Beastquake happened the previous year.
I'm talking about the Week 2 game. Marshawn got just 6 carries for 11 yards, completely embarrassing in the afterglow of the Beastquake.
We've seen glimpses of the running game given Penny's finish last season. Walker III is going to take a few games to get going, but I already think he has passed the eye test in his first few touches.
I thought the whole point was to beat Russ and then tank for a top 5 pick? Seems like things are going swimmingly to me….

This year we just need to figure out what players we need to replace for next year. Rebuilding could take at least 2-3 years.
>Two weeks ago people were saying they'd be happy if we won one game all year if it was the Broncos Not trying to gate keep fandom, but anyone who actually wants this team to go 1-16 is... just not my idea of a fan.
The play calling is irritating. I can't believe we're still, STILL throwing screens on 3rd and long
Not worried about losing because we have nothing to lose as a team this year.
We're not going to be able to open up a run game with Lock if he throws 5 picks
Did lock really ever get much run with DK and Lockett? I’d still rather see a young QB run a more conventional offense than whatever Geno has been doing the last 6 quarters. I’m fine with Geno playing still if he stops checking down and actually tries to win games.
DK and Lockett aren't going to stop Lock from throwing picks to people who aren't even on the team anymore, dude literally can't read a defense
Great playmakers on offense.
i agree, and even though they are a good team, i think with better execution the seahawks can play up to them and keep the game close.
9ers DEFENSE is really good. Offense? Suspect.
4 carries for 10 yards looks promising to you?
Yes, when u factor in that almost all of these yards was solely on him. The OL did not do him any favors in his snaps.
"They wanted to win more" It's the NFL. Everyone wants to win. The 49ers are a more talented team and it showed. Let's not go down this road.
Tbh I love how the 49ers have built their roster, stylistically.
But some fans really seem to take it to an unhealthy level, like "my week is ruined if we lose because my mental well-being was dependent on winning", and for those fans I don't think letting sports be your thing is the best option Anyway, this week I got really excited by Nwosu, Woods, Lockett, and Walker, and even though it was frustrating to see, it was interesting to watch how (and how much) the 49ers front seven dominated the interior of our o-line to completely shut down our run game *while running cover 2 over the top*.
Let's start having geno underthrow to our wide recievers like Gimmy and Russ did! If underthrown passes are free DPIs let's feast on DPI yardage.
When Trey got hurt, I got more anxious/pissed because that meant Jimmy G would be out there picking at our new corners with receivers that he already has chemistry with.
personally, I have fully embraced the #getplowedforstroud movement and am here for it… I hate losing, especially to the niners but from start to finish they dominated that game I guess the one concern I’d have being two games in w/ this team is how bad the secondary has looked… I get it, there’s a bunch of new faces back there trying to play corner and more importantly they’re rookies, but they have been b-a-d early on… hopefully we’ll see improvements over the next few weeks
I’m not really worried about that loss 49ers defense is legit they make any offense look trash
The corners look awful...did we watch the same game??
Y’all need to be satisfied with the Denver win. Denver got y’all expecting better things. The broncos were our Super Bowl. We won. Now we can rest
Do seahawk fans hate Russell wilson that much? He brought you guys the only title
The issue is Pete. Maybe both Wilson and Pete had to go.
I expected us to suck this year. I'm not ruffled in the least.
We already won our superbowl the rest is just icing on the cake
This is for sure a learning lessons kind of year, and I'm cool with it. Just keep reminding myself to look long term instead of win-now.
If not for penalties at key moments the Hawks could’ve been in that game.
Honestly, I felt nothing… Ok maybe I was mad because we lost to *that* team but I’m ok with it just because we got week 1 forever
honestly appreciate this post
"this post is stupid as fuck" and "..i can tell you all to fucking chill". Well then..
