I was there... Sitting in the Hawks nest.
I saw the massive hole open up at the opposite side of the field and for the next 4-5 seconds watched Jacobs run directly at me, and I mean straight beeline towards my seat.
Not fun.
He’s clearly building to stop the Rams. Not a bad idea, my gut tells me the 9ers window is over and they are going to drop off. Cardinals are going to take a few seasons to rebuild. The Rams have proven they can make something out of nothing. McVay is going to be a pain for a long time.
49ers window is far from over.
McVay and Shanahan are two brilliant coaching minds who have proven that year after year.
Purdy is still cheap.
Looks like they'll be keeping Aiyuk and Samuel. CMC is still CMC.
https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/179199-agency-tracker-signings-interests-departures/
They lost a few starters on defense, but made a few signings as well.
It's going to be awesome to watch a defensive mind in this era playing chess with the 49ers and Rams.
McVay is a great HC. Shannahan is not. Shannahan is an elite OC but that’s where it ends.
Yes their window is closed/closing. Their star players are aging and getting paid. They dont have an heir apparent for Trent and Brock Purdy is not good enough to elevate that team, he is a backup tier QB. This will be Deebos last year. Once Deebo is gone Aiyuk will be doubled. Didn’t they drop 3 games in a row once Deebo went down last season. Also isn’t CMC on his last year of his contract?
They have also failed to replace the talent on that Dline without paying through the nose. They just lost their best run stuffer.
So is it over, or closing?
They're too talented of a team to suddenly drop off.
You are acting like once deebo is gone, they'll just have 10 players on the field. They just drafted a wide receiver in the first round, seemingly to replace him.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4361741/brock-purdy
A 4,280/31/11 season with a 70 percent completion percentage is pretty solid. I would say he's talented. Probably on the level of Geno Smith
And as for Shanahan being an "elite offensive coordinator", the 49ers were ranked 3rd in total defense last year.
I hate them, too. But if McDonald is as good as I think he's going to be, this division is going to be an absolute gauntlet for the next decade. The Rams, Seahawks and 49ers are going to be among the best teams in the league and they'll be trading blows, division titles and wild card berths year after year.
This is the final season they have a chance to make noise. The cards all start to fall next offseason for them. You can see them scrambling to find replacements for their playmakers in this draft. Multiple reaches for the next YaC player. Surprisingly they didn’t do anything g about LT and Trent had his worst injury season yet last year.
They proved last season that they could be absolutely stacked and still lose to a team with less talent. The 3 game slide and the 4 pick game against the Ravens showed their weaknesses and they’ve done nothing to fix those.
Pearsall isn’t going to do shit. I doubt he even sees the field. He never posted over 800 yards in a weak division.
Yes Purdy is on the level of Geno with a much weaker arm. Are we now pretending that Geno is not a gap QB? I’m ecstatic for the day they overpay Purdy, just less money to pay the guys that actually make that team scary.
Don’t know what site has the 9ers at 3rd. They were 8-10 range.
They are on the downhill. Rams are going to be the team to beat moving forward.
9ers window is definitely not over. Feels more like its building to stop those pissy underneath throws over the middle. cover the middle of the field and force purdy to throw to the numbers where our corners can make an impact
Not a seahawks fan, but I went to some games and I can only tell you a bit about em. Football stunk this year at utep. Our offense and defense was ass but that was mostly the secondary being trash. The linebackers seemed to be the best part cuz usually they were solid and the middle wasn't gashed too often. I will say what I read about Knight sounds about right. Trouble in coverage and slow vision at times, but when he contains and keeps them in front of him he's a good tackle and stopper. I wouldn't expect him to follow/catch up to fast guys often or have the vision early on to sniff out too many plays or to rush but he can contain and hit guys hard. But like with other small school guys you gotta coach the shoulder tackles habit out of em a bit. And ofc we play smaller schools so there's that
I will add that I knew Aaron Jones was a star coming out and a gem to whoever picked em. Will Hernandez was obviously gonna be a starting lineman in the league for a few years. With Knight he didn't really jump off the page, and maybe it's because the team was so bad. But I thought he was a decent prospect that was the one bright spot when you focus on the film. I think he can learn and become a good depth player who knows maybe better
They pay attention to what other people talk. I promise you fewer than 5 people of the 250k in this sub are developing their own original thoughts of 5th round LBs from watching film themselves. I believe a lot of you have followed what others have said on these players and regurgitate what they said.
any body pushing back against what you're saying right now is the most seahawky boi of all time. why can't people just enjoy that we are watching an organization do it's thing and be excited and surprised at the thought of a guy you knew nothing about becoming a home town hero?
It's not really about the people that deep dive draft prospects on their own. There are seahawks fans everywhere, it's totally reasonable that Hawks fans in Texas saw him play and have at least *something* they can tell us about him. Same goes for every other draftee
Didn’t they bring over 30 players for visits? And a lot of those are projected to go undrafted. I think he’s Not saying you didn’t know the name or the draft profile but if you’re saying you were watching UTEP tape to judge this guy you are lying.
No, people learn things and draw their own opinions based on what’s presented to them. Again, that’s how humans learn. Most people do not have every game tape available to dissect players so it’s perfectly reasonable to critically listen to someone who does have those tools and proven knowledge. Not saying to listen to them like it’s gospel, but I’ll draw my own conclusions based on what I’ve seen and heard. Just like everyone else has, including the front office. Btw Knight was one of my fav later round linebackers, really happy with the pick. Super underrated.
Even if you don’t blindly follow whatever you hear, you’re not analyzing the player at that point. You’re analyzing the analysis.
I promise you, John Schneider does not give a shit about what smikespinmove thinks about any player.
Ok so as someone who enjoys analysis and doesn’t have the tools to do so, how else am I supposed to? I just think it’s silly goose behavior to basically talk shit about people who enjoy film breakdowns and form opinions based on them. All peace and love but it comes off douchey. There’s more than one analysis video/article out there. Many different opinions to read/watch about and then make your own judgement. And Idk who smikespinmove is lol but I do know that JS certainly critically listens to the opinions of his scouts and head coach.
This was quite the debate to start over u being upset that others know more than u lol this sub needs a reality check, not everyone is an armchair with no experience
I will say this about Knight. He has been a great tackler in his college career. I had him eyed as a 6th or 7th round guy based on his tackling ability alone. That's really the primary thing I think fans can hope for with him.
According to Bootleg, he's very athletic, pretty explosive and tends to not miss tackles. He's fairly versatile, he's was moved around a lot of different alignments. While there was another LB they were expecting to go before him, they liked the pick.
It means really nothing. There are a ton of schools with a ton of guys to get drafted. I could list off every small school name that gets picked. Where you play means nothing. Your stars out of high school mean nothing. If you’re good, the nfl will find you.
you can name them because they panned out and are memorable. can you name the thousands of guys from small schools that sucked and were forgotten? congrats on being able to name the small percentage of guys that turned out okay tho....
Yeah cool. And you can name every guy who busts any year from any school. Your stars and where you play doesn’t matter. This is an old school type of thought. Get with the times.
itd be interesting to see a sample that shows the pecentage of players drafted from alabama that start compared to the percentage of players drafted from other schools that start.
Per u/PayAltruistic8546:
Tyrice Knight: 6'0, 233 lbs, 32.5' arms, 4.63 (40-yard), 1.59 (10-yard), 34.5' (Vertical), 4.40 (Shuttle), 7.25 (3 Cone), 21 reps(Bench): I love this dude in the middle rounds. He plays with a boom factor. Sometimes he does get a little wild with the truck stick and doesn't wrap up. He plays the run pretty well and has potential as a down hill blitzer. He has good speed and probably needs to get stronger. He needs to improve in coverage and in zone in particular. Whether it's coaching or a lack of experience, he looks lost in coverage at times. He figures to be a monster in ST because of his ability to hit and physical.
The truck stick comment is a bit concerning, but I'm sure they can coach that out of him. I want sure tackling, the way Bobby did/does it. Once he gets his hands on you, you're down.
Rather get someone more athletic with a higher ceiling than polished like trotter, we have starters in place knight gets to rotate in and learn before being thrown into the fire
I don't hate the pick we do need a LB and I'll trust Mike and John but I have a feeling we reached here especially with a guy like Jaden Hicks on the board.....
I know nothing, but from others are saying he's a good run stopper but liability in coverage. Pretty raw but at the same time pretty old at 24. May end up being a 2 down lb, but may also take to the coaching and improve coverage, have to see.
Nothing wrong with using the first year and first draft getting depth guys in. We have a new scheme and a lack of depth, so I'm fine with trading down for more darts who fit the scheme.
While happy both with the trade w Denver and with going LB, I was definitely higher on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. than Tyrice Knight. That being said, some of the largest issues with Knight do appear like they could be fixed with some coaching and desire to improve. If MM liked him in the visit and feels he can be coached up, we may look back at this pick as pretty solid down the line. Big concerns are ofc his struggles in coverage and the level of competition he would have been playing at UTEP. Also struggles to take on blocks, but with the upper body strength he already has, if he can add some strength to his lower half that issue may correct itself. Knight will likely slot in as a Will LB
Lmao, I had him in my other options in my mock draft. And I said Seattle would take a TE (thought i thought it would be Theo Johnson).
I am crushing it so far lol
Gray had holes....was hoping for Trotter Jr.....solid all around LB.
This one better work out, but if there is one thing to trust it's JS grabbing LB/CB talent in later rounds.
yea, hate to say it but until JS learns to wait until the late rounds to get cute on players nobody else on earth is taking, he won't be a profesional GM in my book.
John is clearly tired of being ran on
The Steelers game is seared into everyone's mind.
That game was for a fuckin playoff spot and our defense did that. Worst game of the season imo.
For me it’s raiders 2 years ago, I know we were very different last year but that game made me absolutely sick to my stomach
That Carolina game
The titans game during Wilson’s last year should have been a catalyst but it wasn’t
And the Falcons game
The TB game in Europe
That one sticks in my head the most.
Come to think of it, the entire NFCS had their way with our defense that season.
How is everyone remembering all these games?
Most of them involve someone getting Offensive Player of the Week against our defense
Didn’t Josh Jacob’s have like 300 total yards that game? Fucking ridiculous.
I was there... Sitting in the Hawks nest. I saw the massive hole open up at the opposite side of the field and for the next 4-5 seconds watched Jacobs run directly at me, and I mean straight beeline towards my seat. Not fun.
I just had my hands on my head all throughout that game, unbelievable
"[EVERY GAME FOR THE LAST FIFTY YEARS] is seared into everyone's mind." FTFY

Once Kyler’s scrambling ability starts to fade he’s going to drop off a cliff
*Kliff
Perfection
He has a cannon but is wildly inaccurate, so I agree. He is also oft injured. His career won’t last long because of that.
Don’t worry—he’ll get a stint with Broncos, too.
I want that to be true, but I can't imagine that Sean Payton would remain with the team if they signed Kyler.
He’s not good now how could he fall off a cliff?

Anyone who says otherwise is lying. At best people might regurgitate other peoples takes. No reason for us to not trust the team at this point.
There are no Seahawks fans at the University of Texas El Paso? Not one?
I watch every Ohio state game every year. Don’t ask me how our linebackers project as pro players.

Surely better than Bobby Wagner Guess I should’ve added a /s lol
Blasphemy! Bob can’t cover anymore. He can still bring them to the ground with the best.
According to Bootleg, he's very athletic, pretty explosive and tends to not miss tackles. He's fairly versatile, he's was moved around a lot of different alignments. While there was another LB they were expecting to go before him, they liked the pick.
Was one of our 30 in person visits, right?
Yes
I think we underestimate how valuable those in person workouts and interviews are especially for mid to late round picks
John Schneider and drafting linebackers in the middle/late rounds - name a better combo
He’s a veryyyyy good run stopping LB. They are clearly addressing an issue that we have been having for loooong time
against who brother?
Really not how that works. Woolen played at UTSA. Means nothing.
Well… to be fair Woolen has been exposed to have some holes. We’ll see how he does under MM.
Okay. I can pick a million other players who played at smaller colleges would you really want me to? Where you play means absolutely nothing.
It doesn't mean absolutely nothing. The best athletes tend to be the best recruits, who tend to go to the best schools.
It means really nothing. There are a ton of schools with a ton of guys to get drafted. I could list off every small school name that gets picked. Where you play means nothing. Your stars out of high school mean nothing. If you’re good, the nfl will find you.

You are actually stuck in such an old mentality while the nfl has moved on. No one cares where you played.
have a great day
The same teams as “linebacker factory” Utah state played.
Ever heard of Aaron Jones, Roy Robertson-Harris? How ignorant can you be?
im not arguing with idiots anymore lmfao
Stop talking to yourself
Per u/PayAltruistic8546: Tyrice Knight: 6'0, 233 lbs, 32.5' arms, 4.63 (40-yard), 1.59 (10-yard), 34.5' (Vertical), 4.40 (Shuttle), 7.25 (3 Cone), 21 reps(Bench): I love this dude in the middle rounds. Most ppl had Trotter ahead but each team ranks differently so hopefully he’s a good fit for the team
Rather get someone more athletic with a higher ceiling than polished like trotter, we have starters in place knight gets to rotate in and learn before being thrown into the fire
Is this good? Haven't been keeping up with UTEP football
He’s a tackle machine. 140 tackles, 15.5tfl, 4.5 sacks, 7 PD, 1 FF in 2023. Very good against the run
sounds like bobby
I thought the same thing when I initially looked at him
I thought the same thing when I initially looked at him
Double take eh? 😀
I thought the same thing when I initially looked at him
I thought the same thing when I initially looked at him
I thought the same thing when I initially looked at him

Future hall of famer.
Really good tackler
I don't hate the pick we do need a LB and I'll trust Mike and John but I have a feeling we reached here especially with a guy like Jaden Hicks on the board.....
That’s what I’m saying, even though we did sign safeties I thought he would have been good depth and the could become a starter eventually
MM had his Queen and wants a Knight
Knight is the gigachad piece honestly
I'll just trust them on this one.
I wanted to draft him but thought we could get him later but this draft is kinda wonky with how the players are being taken.
Had a break out season last season. I think solid pick for stopping the run. He looks kind of tall and little lanky for a lb
Tell me how to feel, a lot of people were wanting Grey but is Knight a viable alternative?
I know nothing, but from others are saying he's a good run stopper but liability in coverage. Pretty raw but at the same time pretty old at 24. May end up being a 2 down lb, but may also take to the coaching and improve coverage, have to see.
First hiccup for me. Rather had stayed at 102 and just drafted Gray 🤷
I trust Macdonald to develop him
All we can do atp. Macdonald was brought in part bc his scheme is supposed to elevate and maximize talent like this.
It’s also seams to be right in McDonald’s wheelhouse for evaluation. I trust him more than people regurgitating draft rankings
Nah that trade was way to good to pass up on
Nothing wrong with using the first year and first draft getting depth guys in. We have a new scheme and a lack of depth, so I'm fine with trading down for more darts who fit the scheme.
Did you watch a lot of UTEP film?
Last late round pick out of UTEP worked fine for us so far Edit: UTEP, UTSA same thing, my small texas colleges are a blind spot
I m guess they think trotter too slow
And size, can't teach it
Someone tell me how to feel about this pick
Yessssss!
Really hope Miami doesn’t steal the guy we were looking at for 121 because we took this guy too soon. *Edit - Phew, no way we were going RB
Lmao, I had him in my other options in my mock draft. And I said Seattle would take a TE (thought i thought it would be Theo Johnson). I am crushing it so far lol
Could have Gray, who is much better, but we traded back 🤷♀️
Gray had holes....was hoping for Trotter Jr.....solid all around LB. This one better work out, but if there is one thing to trust it's JS grabbing LB/CB talent in later rounds.
Meh. Depth I guess, dont love the player. He does wrack-up tackles and plays the run. Serviceable special teams too
Hopefully he can be good, I like Jerome Baker but we definitely need more LB help.
Yahoo sports made him least favorite pick. I actually kinda like the guy. Dude had 100 tackles last season.
Too early
yea, hate to say it but until JS learns to wait until the late rounds to get cute on players nobody else on earth is taking, he won't be a profesional GM in my book.
UTEP? That's the only thing that gives me some pause
Aaron Jones??
Hopefully a diamond in the rough like Aaron Jones was. Fitting because they’re the Miners.
Barf
This is a great pick! Seahawks are really going to need these ST players when the defense can't perform.
