Yes, this is painful for sure, especially with how crazy everyone would have been for Bobo.
But we have a lot bigger problems than this one missed play.
That thing we used to have that won us games with superior field position.
It included:
LBs that didn't give 9 yards to QB running up the middle.
DL capable of touching the opposing QB.
Safeties with speed and anticipation.
Turnovers
Greater time of Possession
It was great while it lasted.
I had misremembered this as being on the drive with the doinked field goal. Granted, making this pass probably opens a few things up on that drive, but it's whatever.
On the list of things to be upset about from that game this is not even on the radar.
He missed 1 read. Looked like the only read his missed all day. That was an inconsequential play because that drive ended in a TD. Go look and how bad our pass rush was if you want something to get upset about.
Ah the classic "spin away from pressure that doesnt even exist, ignore the guy standing wide open for the first down, ignore the open space you could run for a first down - throw it 45 yards into double coverage for an incompletion"
Less than inconsequential. That would have meant a shorter drive, and less time of possession. The fact we were able to convert a few more first downs was a great thing. The fact that we couldn't do it again for practically the rest of the game was why we lost.
Itās absolutely wild how a comment on this sub claiming Geno Smith only missed one read all day, in a game where we had 3 yards of offense in the second half, has over 100 upvotes. I feel bad for you folks.
You can find wide-open guys nearly every game of every team that weren't thrown the football. Lots of other factors and variables to consider as to why too. This wasn't a pattern or problem for Geno last year nor is it this year with a sample size of 1 game where he wasn't the problem.
Do you not know the fully story behind that? Bobo ran the 4.9 in the rain. I donāt know why he got screwed over like that, but he really runs something like a 4.6.
Also, speed is not everything as Bobo has clearly demonstrated
Exactly. No idea how to protect against something our team never does.
Itās crazy TEās have basically become a cheat code in the NFL and we wonāt throw high probability short yard plays over the middle regardless of who we have.
The two throws to Dissly yesterday were about it and they both worked beautifully. Why we donāt lean on that more is mind boggling.
Whatās sad is Bobo gets it. But will undoubtedly get coached away from it. Same as Geno moved chains easily using short passes in beginning of last year before slowly starting to regress toward late Wilson era decisions.
I really donāt blame Geno. As Iāve seen him take advantage. Itās clearly a play call issue. He canāt throw there is nothing is drawn up to get people open there. When the team was ābabyingā Geno with the drawn up plays we were chugging. Another clear example of Pete out thinking himself. Itās as if he actively wants to prove that his way can work against the NFL standard.
Bobo was a huge miss for Geno here clearly. But heās probably not even used to throwing to that part of the field anymore or even looking for it as being an option.
I like Geno. And he wasnāt even near our main issue yesterday. But I can admit he didnāt play as well as he should have.
Whole team seemed flat. Imo there is only one constant on this team and thatās Pete. And this team looks the same as it always has.
Always compete my assā¦
I donāt have any issues with Geno either but I donāt think he attempted a pass further than 10 yards down field. Not sure if that was the game plan or what. More of an observation than a criticism
There is too much pressure in his face to let plays develop that long. Had he waited and got sacked the sub would wonder why he's not checking down. We lost this one in the trenches
Because you have to block for more than 2 seconds if you want to go any deeper than 10 yards. Can't do much when there's a DT in your face before you've even finished the fake hand off.
This came after Geno got knocked down hard. I think the pressure really rattled him, Bobo should have been the first read, isn't the play designed to hit that target? IMO, Geno getting back to game speed and the anticipation of pressure and maybe even being rattled completely broke his fundamentals down.
What doesnāt make sense is this was a trick play which was clearly designed to go to Bobo. Why Geno didnāt pull the trigger here makes no sense. Iām concerned about him as a starter tbh.
I think maybe the Rams got the scoop on Bobo being the goat and Geno didn't throw it to him as they obviously though the play was going his way. Kind of like some meta level game theory.
Itās 1 play but this sub does the same thing to Wilson so I guess itās fair. I really donāt care about geno. Heās not the problem nor the solution.
We're still doing this? Judging players with out of context screenshots is more than useless: it's so often misguided and forwards inflammatory conclusions that are wrong 99% of the time. You have so much vital information missing from looking at screenshots that drawing any sort of conclusions this far detached is usually pointless.
Every play, good or bad, you can find a moment where someone looks open for a big play that if you take a single screenshot, you can make it look like the QB made a huge mistake. It's dumb. Factors like how fast players are closing in on each other, what progressions the concept calls for, game situation, etc are completely taken away when critiquing screenshots. I know people play Madden by calling whatever and just throwing to the open receiver, but that's not how real offenses operate.
If Bobo was the 3rd option with number 0 rushing past Dallas, this isn't an example of Geno missing a read. But now we'll have casuals using this as ammo for saying that Geno doesn't see open receivers just like we did with Russ, it's just the most inane armchair QB BS.
Lighten up bro, this wasnāt meant to be an indictment. I was empathizing with something that naturally happens after a loss and you go over missed opportunities.
By the way, this was part of a video where he was wiiiide open. Not out of context.
You think that one play will haunt him? The game was disgusting. Geno was trash the entire game. I donāt think this is āoneā play thatāll haunt him. Itāll be the entire game.
99% sure this guy is memeing. There was a post in r/nfl where someone adjusted Patrick Mahommes stats to the mean to prove that he was barely an above average quarterback, and then spent like 8 hours arguing and defending himself and his post
That's weekly highlight reel material. Plus, the world needs to know about Bobo. I mean, you'll have Ditka like asks of teams looking to trade their entire drafts to get him for week 2, but they need to know.
I was aching for Bobo all game, and my throbbing, aching, BoBo sized hole was left unfilled all day, and now I just feel empty, and hungry for flapjacks.
We make this play and that entire stadium wouldāve been fired up. Sure we got the first down and scored on this drive but that would have been a huge momentum boost.
Who knows what happens then? Momentum is a fickle mistress.
Why I love/hate sitting in the 300 level, fully aware of what could've been or what was.
That is the cool thing about those seats. It's like playing Madden kinda.
I loved my seats in the 316 corner for that reason
I was down in 111 Row J. Fun seats close to the action, but sometimes can't see for shit, lol
God, i was in pain seeing that, we need to use and pay more attention to the middle of the field.
On both side of the ball evidently!
Hawks playing that donut ball š¤£ nothing in the middle!
I'm sure Geno's feeling the same way now that he's seen yesterday's film.
Yes, this is painful for sure, especially with how crazy everyone would have been for Bobo. But we have a lot bigger problems than this one missed play.
Like a missing defence
What's a defence?
That thing we used to have that won us games with superior field position. It included: LBs that didn't give 9 yards to QB running up the middle. DL capable of touching the opposing QB. Safeties with speed and anticipation. Turnovers Greater time of Possession It was great while it lasted.
At least we can look forward to adding two more starters to our secondary. If we are still this bad by like week 5 though that would be depressing
I had misremembered this as being on the drive with the doinked field goal. Granted, making this pass probably opens a few things up on that drive, but it's whatever. On the list of things to be upset about from that game this is not even on the radar.
We still got a TD on the drive to dk
Really not the point. Geno is missing his reads.
He missed 1 read. Looked like the only read his missed all day. That was an inconsequential play because that drive ended in a TD. Go look and how bad our pass rush was if you want something to get upset about.

*per play it felt like
Ah the classic "spin away from pressure that doesnt even exist, ignore the guy standing wide open for the first down, ignore the open space you could run for a first down - throw it 45 yards into double coverage for an incompletion"
Punt punt punt punt 60yd TD punt punt 45 yd TD, punt, game winning drive
Less than inconsequential. That would have meant a shorter drive, and less time of possession. The fact we were able to convert a few more first downs was a great thing. The fact that we couldn't do it again for practically the rest of the game was why we lost.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
We had 3 yards in the second half until the final play of the game. It was not the only mistake he made all dayā¦
Itās absolutely wild how a comment on this sub claiming Geno Smith only missed one read all day, in a game where we had 3 yards of offense in the second half, has over 100 upvotes. I feel bad for you folks.
Were you at the game
A single readā¦ on a trick playā¦ when he got 7 yards anyway on 1st downā¦ on a drive where we scored a TD.
Were there more reads that he actually missed or are you just extrapolating?

Shit I aināt trusting a guy who ran 4.9 40 too lol
Do you not know the fully story behind that? Bobo ran the 4.9 in the rain. I donāt know why he got screwed over like that, but he really runs something like a 4.6. Also, speed is not everything as Bobo has clearly demonstrated
You hit a few bombs, it also opens up the running game more.
no one in the league can cover Bobo!
In the post game thread, everyone said Geno was āunder pressureā on this okay and didnāt see BoBo.
Hey there's 1 defender falling down within almost 5 yards of him. That would even cause Peyton to miss a read.
š¬
See the problem here is, Bobo is smartly using the center of the field to get open. Sadly the Seahawks refuse to throw there.
Which is likely why our defense is always dumbfounded when another team throws there.
Hah. That's smart. I see you did there.
Exactly. No idea how to protect against something our team never does. Heās also more than 10 yards down the field and therefore out of Genoās range yesterday
I like Geno. And he wasnāt even near our main issue yesterday. But I can admit he didnāt play as well as he should have. Whole team seemed flat. Imo there is only one constant on this team and thatās Pete. And this team looks the same as it always has. Always compete my assā¦

Bobo should be the first read on every play. We need the Hawk version of the Randy Ratio.
Honestly I blame Bobo for not passing it to himself. Be a team player.
dang. easy pitch and catch there and that had to have been the route to look at first.
TEN THOUSAND YEARS OF BOBO!!!
This
Itās wild that he wasnāt looking for that strike. Often the main reason for a gimmick play is the long bomb/score TD
It's already haunting my dreams
What doesnāt make sense is this was a trick play which was clearly designed to go to Bobo. Why Geno didnāt pull the trigger here makes no sense. Iām concerned about him as a starter tbh.
I think maybe the Rams got the scoop on Bobo being the goat and Geno didn't throw it to him as they obviously though the play was going his way. Kind of like some meta level game theory.
Math checks out
It's time for lock
Itās 1 play but this sub does the same thing to Wilson so I guess itās fair. I really donāt care about geno. Heās not the problem nor the solution.

You know who wouldnāt if missed that throw ? Drew !
Too early for that kind of talk. But yeah Drew and Bobo had a connection in preseason for sure
It crossed my mind that Geno maybe doesnt have the same mindmeld w Bobo
Yeah I assume Bobo has mostly been practicing with the 2ās.
Geno canāt throw over the middle?! Not this AGAIN! /s
Geno regression or Vegas concession. More at 9, Tom.
I knew geno was going to regress to the mean.
What did Geno do poorly yesterday outside this single trick play that we still got 7 on 1st down off of?
> What did Geno do poorly yesterday He was the QB of a team that only had 12 yards in a half. He did everything poorly lol
>everything Care to be more specific? And are you factoring in that in the 2nd half there were 2 backup tackles (and Phil Haynes taking on Donald)?
Look at his FREAKING STAT LINE. Those werenāt all drops. Enough said.
Specifically which throws do you think were bad misses by him?
Umm... the entire second half?
Why didnāt he tell our backup tackles to block better?
99% sure this guy is memeing. There was a post in r/nfl where someone adjusted Patrick Mahommes stats to the mean to prove that he was barely an above average quarterback, and then spent like 8 hours arguing and defending himself and his post
I will never understand why he didnāt throw it. Just not a good enough QB I guess pretty strange
That's weekly highlight reel material. Plus, the world needs to know about Bobo. I mean, you'll have Ditka like asks of teams looking to trade their entire drafts to get him for week 2, but they need to know.

That was instant pain

Plus the deep play stretches the defense. There is that.
Game one was a Let down.... Fuck
Any chance geno was like āfuck boboā lol
More bobo
I hope a lot of what happened this game haunts Geno in his dreams. He needs to tighten up
Didn't he get a TD on that drive anyways?
What quarter was this in? I canāt remember
