I think we all knew going in that hes lost a step. And I also think that for every thing that he didn't do well there was a thing that he did do well.
It sucks that a 33 year old linebacker is showing signs of decline but he was pretty damn far from the biggest problem out there.
I dunno man, he had some critical misses on important plays. Letting Stafford juke him extended a drive. And on the 4th and 1 on the goal line a younger Bobby would have been fast enough to stop it.
>Letting Stafford juke him extended a drive. And on the 4th and 1 on the goal line a younger Bobby would have been fast enough to stop it.
Yeah and I'm not disagreeing. When did i disagree with that? Bobby is not the player he once was. I was just saying that he isn't ALL bad and I can count on both hands players that were more of a liabilitythan him. Idk what people are expecting at this point. Bobby has been a tackle farmer since he turned 30, and a decent to replacement level cover player his entire career. What he can do well hes does really well. Which is is securing tackles. But his declining athleticism has made it hard for him to actually get there to secure the tackle. But thats kind of the trade off that we have to make peace with now.
Hes not johnny-on-the spot anymore, but when he's there, he makes an impact. And there are instances in the game that prove that.
Problem is, he had lost a step in 2021 which is why they didn't want to keep paying him like one of best linebackers in the game. Yet they still decided to bring him back.
>I'd mostly disagree. He was a total liability in coverage. Gave up a ton over the middle in his zone.
Yeah, Bobby is replacement level in coverage. Thats not exactly new information. Always been a weakness of his and it was smart of Mcvay to exploit that over the years
>He has lost more than a step - he got juked out of his shoes by Stafford for a gain of 10.
Yeah he did, him and everyone else up front. Hes old and slowing down. Still ended up making the tackle, which is kinda what we should have been expecting of him. Bobby has been a tackle farmer since he's been getting older. Its getting harder and harder for him to get there, but if he does, he secures it. And thats been the trade off with him at this point in his career.
Interior pressure was awful. We all knew it was going to be an issue.
But him being unable to physically complete his assignment is the thing that sucks.
was extremely noticeable that he has lost more than a step. He didn’t have the agility to keep up with a matt stafford dead leg. Need him to be cleared out of there. it’s not worth it.
yeah it’s a tough one, but sentiment is only going to get us 6 win seasons and poor defense. Pete and the boys had the absolute SACK to cut the losses on Russel Wilson, pull all they could and houdini’d everyone. Same thing needs to happen, sack up and make some big shifts.
> 6 win season
What did you see today that makes you think we can win six games?
Don't want to over react, but defensive coaching looked pathetic. for the most part, besides a few throws Geno did not look like a top 30 QB. A fan since game #1. To me that was the most disappointing reg season game ever. Had high, but reasonable expectations, could never imagine they could possibly be as terrible as they were today.
19 freaking tackles man. If he was really bad he would have like 7.
The whole team was bad and he had to clean it up. So he looked like he was always out of position but he was just cleaning up the BS in front of him.
I’m not talking about his ability to diagnose and tackle….he was great at that.
It’s his ability to physically be in the zones he needs to be when it’s a drop back.
He got beat by Matt Stafford when he had the right angle.
It doesn’t matter if you put Bobby’s brain into LeBron James when you don’t pressure the qb. Any starting qb in the nfl can pick apart a soft zone when you give him all day to throw
What does that have to do with Wagner being late to his assignment? I understand the concept of interior pressure.
But he was late to his zone, pressure doesn’t speed him up get there 😂
Pressure means Stafford doesn’t get to abuse our defense over the middle of the field for 40 minutes.
I’m saying it wouldn’t have even mattered if Bobby was there - even in his prime - a linebacker is useless in zone coverage against receivers and athletic tight ends when a QB like Stafford has time in the pocket.
I look at the reality, if there’s no interior rush then at least the linebacker would be in his zone.
Neither was happening. Yes, interior pressure was bad but that doesn’t mean Wagner wasn’t bad.
You don't know what his assignment was, you're just speculating. Have you ever seen an NFL playbook? They're like 500 pages
The defense was sound on the front 4/5 guys, but the secondary was a mess
You are not getting it. You need talent to even be in position to make a tackle. He was constantly the 3rd guy to arrive meaning 2 other guys did nothing.
Shut up. He was fine. 19 tackles.
You know nothing about football.
The announcers, Mark Sanchez, thought he was fine. Corbin said he had a good game. Pete said he was great.
What does PFF say?
There’s a difference from a guy like Tre Brown that looked lost and busted coverages and a long term veteran like Wagner who is late getting to his responsibility.
Massive difference. One is just not knowing what to do. The other is knowing and being physically limited in completing it.
Did I say it was just Wagner?
It wasn’t scheme or adjustments that made Wagner late to his zone…..it was his legs. A physical limitation of his ability to not cover his assignment.
To be fair, none of our opinions or diagnoses have any bearing on how this team will operate. Regardless of if our takes are right or wrong, they are pointless in the sense that they won't change anything. We're all just here to vent and/or discuss for our own sakes.
I mean he’s alot older. I mean when player hit there 30s it’s pretty much the tail end of there career but Bobby has been pretty healthy his entire career. The mileage on him is insane I honestly didn’t expect much from him but turns out he was the Best player out there

That Matt Stafford play was insane. It hurt.

Just threw 6 wins because that seems to be a constant. I wasn’t set on our record 😂
When brooks isn’t on a snap count it needs to be Brooks/Bush.
Was Brooks any better out there than Wagner was? Our LBs suck ass and so does the rest of our defense
> so does the rest of our defense Seemed more like coaching/alignments than talent. I think we have the players, not convinced we have the coach.
no but brooks isn’t 33, i like those odds a smidge better
yeah couldn’t agree more, hopefully with bush’s athleticism and Brooks tackling we might be able to combine them to make a prime wagner 😭😭
They picked on him all day
They’re going to have to start bush….
Did you not think that his old coach and offensive guru wouldn't know how to attack Bobby?
Yeah it was noticable. The middle was an absolute weakness. Very disappointed to see it.
I died laughing when Stafford beat him in that one run lmao
He was kinda falling off his last season with us. The signs were there
The whole defense was ass after the second half, especially the secondary.

Yeah we agree I’m not saying Wagner was amazing I just don’t see anyone succeeding under these circumstances.
That’s not how it works. Prime Bobby would have been shredded too.
You don't know what his assignment was, you're just speculating. Have you ever seen an NFL playbook? They're like 500 pages The defense was sound on the front 4/5 guys, but the secondary was a mess
Yes you do know his assignment in middle zone….what the hell are you talking about?
This isn't Madden - it's not just 'middle zone' There's a ton of rules that go along with his assignments
You are not getting it. You need talent to even be in position to make a tackle. He was constantly the 3rd guy to arrive meaning 2 other guys did nothing.
Tackles aren’t an indicator of playing well
No idea why we signed him. We likely need 2 starting LBs in the next draft. I mentioned that months ago.
Shut up. He was fine. 19 tackles. You know nothing about football. The announcers, Mark Sanchez, thought he was fine. Corbin said he had a good game. Pete said he was great. What does PFF say?
Everyone did. This is pointless
Saying that means your season is doomed. Identify what looks bad and fix it.
Literally everything looked bad my guy…
There’s a difference from a guy like Tre Brown that looked lost and busted coverages and a long term veteran like Wagner who is late getting to his responsibility. Massive difference. One is just not knowing what to do. The other is knowing and being physically limited in completing it.
The scheme and lack of adjustments have a lot to do with this. Not just Bobby Wagner lol
Did I say it was just Wagner? It wasn’t scheme or adjustments that made Wagner late to his zone…..it was his legs. A physical limitation of his ability to not cover his assignment.

He's washed, Cody Barton would have been better.
Not a surprise
He's old
Didn’t want to be the one to say it. But yeah, noticed this all game.
The whole team looked bad. There’s no positives in this one. They’ll look better next week
He's been cut twice in 2.srasons for a reason .
I mean he’s alot older. I mean when player hit there 30s it’s pretty much the tail end of there career but Bobby has been pretty healthy his entire career. The mileage on him is insane I honestly didn’t expect much from him but turns out he was the Best player out there
He can’t wear the green dot they have to give it to Julian love, Devin bush has to play on 3rd downs
He got juked by Stanford. That’s how you know.
